I've been searching around on how to root my device and I thought I had found the right way to do it, but after trying my phone will stay on the boot screen while saying all the recovery stuff. I can also get it into download mode again, but it won't fully start. Can anyone tell me how to get my phone back to stock ROM so that I can just use my phone again? Thanks.
Whicf root u r using? Cfautoroot? Did u use the correct root file for 4.3?

It was cfautoroot. I thought I was using the right version, but evidently it might not have been. I also used Odin 3.7 instead of 3.9 on accident so I don't know if that changes anything.
So, to sum it all up, you were trying to root your device with your eyes closed ?
It's clearly written on the cfroot site what to use and how to do it.

No... I used the file that it told me to use, and did all the steps. Anyone know how I can fix it?
Could I just do the same process over again with a different file using ODIN or do I need to put the stock back on it again in order to correctly root it? I've been looking at more guides and it seems like I did all the right things, but I guess the .tar file I had may have been old even though I thought it was for my T-Mobile Note 3 using 4.3. Any suggestions because I would prefer to get it right this time, and not mess my phone up anymore than I have.

Did you try to flash Kit Kat? Therefor you would need the new bootloader as well. I never got a bootloop with just rooting the device and that's been a lot of times. Try to flash stock rom in Odin again (7 or 9 doesn't matter) and then look for the correct file again.

U better get from someone with tmob who have it earlier. I guess the file there work on 4.4.2. U never mentioned earlier on ur 1st post that u r on tmob.
Or, easier way, upgrade to KK and then root.

So would http://stockroms.net/file/GalaxyNote3/SM-N900T/N900TUVUCNB4_N900TTMBCNB4_TMB.zip work? I just put the .tar file into the AP part of Odin 3.09 and start it in download mode, and it should work right? My girlfriend has the exact same phone not rooted also, would I be able to use hers at all to get it back to stock?
Thanks for the help. I was able to flash the stock ROM back on my phone and everything is back to normal. Now all I need to do is find the right file to correctly root it. (Still 4.3)
After trying again, with what I made sure was the right file for 4.3, which was the one I used before, it still won't get past the recovery and boot screen after the root process on ODIN. While looking at the guide it said to uncheck auto reboot if it is not installing then just put it into recovery mode myself and it should work. Should I do that to make it work?
Tried that, and it didn't work also. Not sure how to make it work. I put the .tar file in the AP spot. Do I need a different file in one of the other slots? Thanks.

No you don't need any other file.
Check your reactivation lock make sure it is off, usb debugging is on.
And sometimes, it needs 2 times to flash to success. Don't worry.
The only thing you have to make sure is : the root file you are using to flash, must be for 4.3 JB. Not 4.4.2
I have no idea the one inside CF-autoroot post is for Tmob 4.4.2 or for 4.3
You should find out this one, because if you are using root file for KK on JB, your phone will bootloop (and vice versa).
USB debugging on but still didn't work. Flashed it twice but didn't work. The reactivation lock option isn't showing up in my security so not sure about that one. How big should the file be that I use to root with? I found another guide that shows to use a file that's over a gigabyte big but also using the csc part of ODIN. The file I'm using now from cfautoroot is only about 20 megabytes.
I saw a post that said to use Kingo Root or Vroot but as I've been searching I've heard bad things about Kingo. Is Vroot any good?
Any more help before this gets buried?

I have no idea again. Sorry.
If u want to learn, find some other sources of knowledge and try on ur own risk.
But if u just want to get root a.s.a.p, I would suggest u upgrade to 4.4.2 and use cfautoroot. I believe the file posted on cf thread is for 4.4.2.
Good luck

Hello,
Problem:
I own a Samsung Galaxy S4 I337 model from AT&T with a locked bootloader. While using safestrap I accidentally checked the /system folder while wiping the STOCK ROM. I didn't yet have another working ROM loaded onto the phone (Safestrap allows you to boot from multiple different ROMS). My phone now freezes at the Samsung logo when I try to boot normally, and I can't reflash the stock ROM in download mode as the bootloader is still locked (I can, however, boot into download mode).
My phone is recognized by ADB which (theoretically) means I can push files back to the device. I haven't yet tried although I'm afraid it may not work as only 2/3 drivers successfully install on my computer when I plug the phone in.
My request from the great tech gods at XDA Forums:
1) If anyone can please reply with any ideas/solutions to my problem I would greatly appreciate it. (PLEASE, ANYTHING. I'M DESPERATE!)
2) If anyone could supply me with a download for the Galaxy s4 I337 /system folder I could attempt to use ADB to push it onto the phone and reboot. WARNING: I'm not an expert on Android and know nothing about the /system folder. Using the /system folder from your personal phone could supply me with very personal information about you/your phone. Please only do this if you know what you're doing!
My ideas:
1) Use android ADB to push the missing files back to my phone, although I don't know if I deleted the entire /system folder or just select things inside it. Also I can't find any downloads for a /system folder anywhere on the Internet.
2) Take it back to AT&T and play dumb. Hopefully they can at least temporarily unlock the bootloader to reflash the stock ROM for me.
Any ideas are GREATLY appreciated,
JT
PS: If you need any more information please leave a reply and I will update the post ASAP. :good:
EDIT: I am running 4.3 Jellybean. Also in answer to your response, I can't flash the firmware again as the bootloader is locked. (Unless I'm missing something and you know more than me, I'm no expert.)
EDIT 2: Looks like I may be wrong and you can reflash the stock ROM on my locked bootloader. Also, for future responses, my S4 has the MF3 baseband although I'll try the thread you suggested. (With the files for my device of course)
EDIT 3: Having trouble flashing stock firmware again with ODIN even though I've now been told that it's possible, read below for more details. I think it's due to the PIT file or the fact that I was running 4.3 and I believe I am trying to flash back to 4.2.2. Please help!
SOLVED: Thanks to ted77usa, I flashed the MK2 stock ROM to my phone through ODIN and this time everything went without a hitch. THANKS A TON!
Also if any mods want to move/delete/do whatever with this post feel free to do so, I don't see this post being very useful for educational purposes as my logic on locked bootloaders was wrong and I don't want people getting the wrong idea.
What firmware are you on? I'd Odin flash the tar files for that firmware.

You can use ODIN just fine on the locked bootloaders. Follow the directions in the MK2 TARs thread in the general section.

I'm downloading them now from here. Can you verify for me that this is up to date/correct? I previously tried to flash the .tar.md5 file for my phone although I got a "write error" and after researching it I found that you can't flash files in download mode with a locked bootloader. Apparently this is wrong though, thanks for the all the help so far!

I followed the thread exactly as it said but it failed. Then I included the the PIT file but still failed. I've attached a screenshot of ODIN after I tried with the PIT file.
EDIT: My phone is giving a message that reads: "SECURE CHECK FAIL : PIT" I read that PIT files have to be signed with a device-specific key to work, although it seems that most people aren't having a problem using one found off of the Internet. Any ideas?
EDIT 2: I believe those files are for 4.2.2, I was running 4.3, is this the issue? Also I don't know if my phone was updated OTA or not, I bought it from eBay. :/

Thanks for the reply, but before I go any further I should clarify some information about my phone. I bought an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 from eBay, when I got the phone it was running 4.3. The catch: My phone isn't actually on AT&T service OR SIM unlocked (I think), I'm with a cell provider called NET 10. How NET 10 works is that it pays AT&T to run off of their service, NET 10 is cheaper for the customers because it isn't as fast as AT&T. AT&T and Net 10 have an agreement where you can take any phone from AT&T and hook it up to NET 10 without unlocking it. Although I think that NET 10 may unlock your phone when you hook it up to their service, I'm not sure. What makes my think that is that when I booted my phone up after transferring to NET 10, a picture of an open padlock appeared under the Samsung logo.
Being on NET 10 may have changed some of that, specifically the MF3/MK2 baseband. Not being an expert on basebands and how they correlate to your cell service provider, will following your instructions result in not being able to connect to NET 10's service? It's probably a stupid question, I know, but with my minimal knowledge I figured I should ask before I followed through with anything.

It shouldn't. Your phone is the same model, and the firmware appears to be the same. At most you might have to put in an APN to get your mobile data back.

Thanks, I'm aware of the APN. I had SEVERAL issues with NET 10 when I first set that up. (THEY MISSPELLED THE F****** IP ADDRESS ON THEIR WEBSITE!) Still frustrated about that one. D:<
I'm now preparing to follow through with ted77usa's instructions. Sorry if I respond slow, I have to wait 5 minutes after each post/edit as I haven't been approved by a mod yet.
EDIT: I may have to continue this tomorrow, the site ted77usa used to host the .tar files is pretty slow. The download is going to take an hour and it's getting late here. I can't believe how much support I'm getting from everyone, thanks a TON! I'm clicking the thanks button on everyone who's helped me, it's the least I can do!

It took about an hour for me to download ted77usa's files but I have relatively fast internet (16 mb/ps). As soon as the files downloaded it worked first try, are you in download mode? If you are and it's still not working you may need the PIT file and to make sure that re-partition is checked along with the 2 others that ted77usa mentioned.

I recently bit off more than I could chew with my S4 (I337). I had 4.4.2 KitKat on it and wanted to root it to add teathering. I decided thought there was no root for 4.4.2 so I thought I would try downgrading to 4.3 then root. This seemed best because I didn't like the way the SD card is handled in 4.4.2 and some of my apps (like ftp server) have stopped working.
When I got the phone back up from flashing with Odin it says it has version 4.3. My WiFi will not turn on. If I slide the switch to on it slides right back to off and the phone tells me that an operation was block (can't remember the full verbage. I have installed and attempted to install many things on my phone. I have used recovery mode / Odin3 and Kies (Kies doesn't allow much).
At this point I just would like to get my phone back to 4.4.2 with the WiFi working. Then I can restore my backup and be back to square one with a lesson learned.
I have an I337 that currently thinks it has version 4.3 on it. The baseband version is I337UCUFNC1 currently. The build number is JSS15J.I337UCUEMK2.
If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. I have read and tried many things over a two day period and finally decided to ask for help.
Had this issue before on my Bell Canada S4, but don't recall exact way to fix it.
Think the solution was to find an older (might be newer) stock. I think I used a different version like the Telus Canada version as well and it ended up working. Then you update through kies after.

Wifi does not work because of the modem/kernel mismatch, i.e. MDB modem and MK2 kernel. Not sure what your goal was when you began flashing your phone but since you fortunately did not flash teh MK2 bootloader you are still able to locate the MDB full odin tar and flash back to stock which will resolve your issue.

If you don't care about losing your MDB unlocked bootloader you can get to the latest kitkat firmware by flashing the NB1 full odin tar from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674223, then once flashing is complete go to settings/more/about phone/software update then take the ota update to NC1 which is the latest kitkat version for our phone.
But what I would do is keep your unlocked MDB bootloader and since you already flashed the MK2 AP file you can get your phone running well again by flashing the MK2 modem: https://mega.co.nz/#!pwESna5I!YK7EKG37xXIG1ReB-Z-mfSMoXNkXQ9t2EdMK9ofgJKg
From there, there are still a number of options available to get to kitkat which I won't get into.

I have read and tried many things over a two day period and finally decided to ask for help.

excited to give this a try. rooted with the downgrade method a couple months ago but left with a non-wifi device. my only issue is that the thread says it's for I337UCUFNC1 and our devices are on jss15j.i337ucuemk2. will this fix still work? I've heard on other threads on the subject that the modem kernel doesn't match up with the flashed rom or build number or something.

Same question, different thread!
Not even an hour ago did I answer the same question in a different thread: How do I get WiFi working on my S4?
Well here you go.
My original answer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-4-4-2-nb1-t2850878/post54978150#post54978150
The problem is, in order to get WiFi working, you need to install the NB1 modules, but to do that, you need to install Safestrap. However, you can not install Safestrap because the app keeps closing on you. There is a simple fix to this, which I will explain later. For now, just read this WHOLE post BEFORE you do anything, and keep in mind that I am NOT held liable if you mess up your phone. Use this at your own risk.
1.) Root your phone
If you're already rooted with something like SuperSU or Superuser, skip this. If not, read ahead. Download and install the Towelroot APK file attached to this post, open it, and click 'make it ra1n'. If your phone didn't reboot, now you have root (they need to trademark that). Now, down below, I also included the APK for SuperSU. Download and install it. Now open it. When you open it, let it install the 'Normal' way, not via the 'TWRP/CWM' way. Also, when it asks you to disable KNOX, say yes, wait a couple of minutes (it will still be loading) and reboot your phone. Open up SuperSU again, click 'Yes' to disable KNOX again, and now you have a good base to start from.
2.) Install Safestrap AFTER fixing the error
The error your are getting is easily fixed. Go to the Play Store and install 'SELinux Mode Changer'. Open it, grant it root access, and change the mode to 'Permissive'. Now, open up Safestrap again (you mentioned you already installed it), and it shouldn't force close. Click 'Install', and if the 'Reboot to Recovery' option below is not grayed out after that then it worked.
3.) Download and install the NB1 modules
On your phone, download the included NB1 modules ZIP file I attached for you, and once that is done you need to reboot. After the Galaxy S4 logo, you'll see a screen that says 'SAFESTRAP: DISABLED' and there will be a little robot. TIP: To enter Safestrap, press the menu button (physical, hardware key) under 'Recovery' at that screen. To continue to Android, press the back key (again, physical) under the 'System' tab. For now, press the menu button under 'Recovery'. Now, click 'Install' which should be in red, click 'Add zips', and navigate to your Downloads folder. Now click on the NB1 modules ZIP you just downloaded. Swipe to install, and reboot. This time, hit the back key under 'System'.
All done!
Now, Android should (and will) boot up, and you'll have working WiFi! If, for some odd reason, you don't have WiFi- do NOT panic! Just search around for the MF3 modules and flash those! All is good, all is good. A lot of this guide was taken from my post about my personal method of SIM unlocking the AT&T Galaxy S4 without the dialer codes or an AT&T SIM. It was just modified a little to work for you.
Remember, hit thanks!

Would I be able to use this fix?
I don't want this post to be too long but I need some help here, let me sum it up.
I purchased a secondhand Note3 off Ebay to replace my Note2. I got it an it appears to me that it's been "modified", I see this SafeStrap thing at startup and a SuperSU App. Once I saw this I decided to hold off on putting my sim card in and have just been using it on wifi. I used the "RootChecker" app to see if it's rooted and it tells me yes. System info tells me the phone is running 4.3. I know not much of this rooting, flashing, roms, kernel scene. So:
- My goal is to get this phone back to stock setting, no SafeStrap or root of any kind if it's there, so the phone operates and is just as it would be if purchased new from Verizon. What is the easiest way to go about doing this?
From there I might actually think of trying my hand at rooting this thing since it's a secondhand device, but I first want to eliminate any modifications made to the phone by the previous owner, and if I do root I want to start from ground zero and do it myself.
I apologize for my ignorance in this but could really use the help and hopefully learn more about this world along the way since it seems everyone who roots swears by it, I must be missing something but for now my objective is a clean slate with this device
Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys, hopefully I can find some time tomorrow to tackle this.
One question just reading through the guide quickly, for step 2, downloading the stock image, I assume I want 4.3 for retail? IF so, I see 3 options: Official VRUBMJE 4.3, Official VRUBMJ7 4.3, and Official VRUBMI9 4.3. Does it matter which one? I am assuming they are just different releases of 4.3 but not sure, or if I could pick one that would work better than another.
I'll copy and paste the info below if you don't know off-hand what I am referring to.
Thanks again! :good:
Section 1: How to return to Stock Android 4.3 and recover from a Soft Brick.
Take Note If your Retail Locked N3 took the OTA update, you can not revert back to older firmware. Verizon now has Samsung blacklist the older firmwares bootloader after each update. If you try and flash older firmware the device will softbrick.
Step 1: Download and install Odin to a Windows based PC- http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2189539
Step 2: Download a stock Odin image and Pit file to the PC. If Odin does not recognize the file then extract it with a program such as 7zip.
RETAIL Locked N3 Restore Files
Official VRUCNC4 4.4.2- http://samsung-updates.com/details/2...0VVRUCNC4.html(Only use this if you took the OTA or do not mind being stuck on stock...there is currently no root method available yet!)

Official VRUBMJ7 4.3- http://d-h.st/IEW(Retail Locked N3 ONLY)

-------------
HLTE_32gb.PitFile- http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23159073880936457(works for bothe DE and Retail devices)
Step 3: Power device off, hold the volume down/home/power keys until you see a yellow triangle, then press the volume up key to access "odin or download mode".
Step 4: Open Odin and connect the oem usb cable from pc to device. The driver should automatically install( it did for me on windows 7 64bit). There should also be a "comport number" in upper left hand corner of Odin indicating communication between the pc & device.
*If the drivers do not automatically install, then manually install the drivers in link and proceed to the next step. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2038555
Step 5: Click on the Pit function of Odin and select Pit file you downloaded in Step:2.
Step 6: Click on the AP/PDA(depends on Odin version) function of Odin. Select the stock 4.3 image you downloaded in step 2, then select start. This operation should take less than 8 minutes before Odin will say pass/reset.
Step 7: Your device should boot back up into factory stock 4.3 Android! However, these stock Odin files do not wipe data. To wipe data, power the device off, press and hold the volume up/home/power buttons until the samsung logo appears. The device will boot into recovery and from there you will need to wipe data/factory reset, then reboot.

The mje should do fime. It's the latest jb stock firmware. Once you boot up into that, your phone should promt you to accept the new kk update.
I know you do not want or care about root, but I'll say this anyways. Once you've accepted the new ota update, there's no way to root and there's no way to get back to jb. Like I said, probably not a concern of yours... just throwing it out there.

Is it safe to try and power down the phone and/or exit Odin and try again or could that screw something up?

If you haven't run anything then you're safe to reboot it.
I stupidly tried to flash a custom recovery without unlocking the boot loader (2nd time rooting a phone) and of course now I get the message that there is software not authorized by Verizon, yada yada yada.....I can't use the phone. As I already said, I'm not very smart w/ this I guess. I rooted my phone with the new towelroot method and it worked flawlessly....but then I tried to go further and figured I'd just do everything necessary to run custom roms. Anyways, I've got the yellow triangle and I really really don't want to go to Verizon and try to talk my way into a replacement (I just got a replacement phone about 2 weeks ago) Is there any way to fix this? Before you reply, know I don't have a windows computer so I don't think I can use Odin, and my phone isn't showing up in Kies when I connect it after making sure my phone is in download mode. I'm at a loss.
Your only option is Odin, I would say find a friend with a windows computer... Then once you are back on track, read on this forum about safestrap before you flash anything else... Good luck!

Thanks. I know what I'm doing today now
Can anyone point me in the right direction to download the right pit file for use in Odin (Jodin3 to be specific). It's supposed to find the proper pit file automatically, but it can't for some reason. Oh, and I did do some digging....for some reason the only pit file I found (which was uploaded in Oct. of 2013) doesn't work. I can't find anything else other than that...if there is anything else.
I am trying to fix his phone for him but I am unable to find any full 4.4.2 Odin tars, are there even any available yet? The only ones I can find seem to be on websites I have never heard of haha.

Pokmemon Go/ Uninstalled Kingroot and derooted boot screen custom & gear icon on boot
Hi, so a while ago I tried using kingroot and installed it for a little bit and used root to uninstall some factory installed apps like amazon, etc. then when i decided i did not want root anymore. i used the kingroot app to remove root and then uninstalled the kingroot application.
then i downloaded a root checker app to see if i was rooted. i was not.
now whenever i boot up my phone it says samsung and then the word custom with a gear icon below it.
now when i tried the newest version of pokemon go version 0.37.0 it says it cannot run on my device cause apparently it thinks i am rooted.
is there anyway to solve this? other than a factory reset?
I don't think a factory reset would help either.
You'd have to delete every trace of root left on your device, and kingroot probably left some files behind.
Unless you can find them, the most sure method is to flash another ROM (stock) though Odin.
I believe a custom kernel would also work, or the stock boot.img of your current ROM.

I believe a custom kernel would also work, or the stock boot.img of your current ROM.

The ROM you can get from Sammobile. As for the files left behind, I don't know how kingroot handles those, but to access and delete them you would have to be rooted.

ok, i powered down the phone and held the power and volume up buttons to get into recovery mode and then i selected wipe cache partition. and then rebooted. it seems that has solved the custom and gear icon below on when it first boots up. cause now it shows samsung galaxy s4 which is correct. but when i try pokemon go 0.37.0 it still says this device or software is not supported what should i do now? i heard somewhere that you can use xposed framework module

I already told you that a factory reset does not unroot.
If you want to completely unroot, flash the stock ROM.
If you don't want that, downgrade to Pokémon version 0.35.
0.37 has not even been officially released yet. I mean, I don't even have it on the play store and it's the same for many others.
PS: Xposed also needs root.

You need one for your specific phone model (AT&T or Verizon I assume).

You don't need a pit file. And if the files are wrong, the instalation will just fail.
If that's the firmware you had previously, then it's ok.

Yes. But if the firmware is older than what you had on the phone (5.0 > 4.3) it may fail to flash.
