"Tate" is the code name used for the KFHD 7".
So Amazon is still giving us updates, even with a new generation of devices. Can you get a screenshot? And is root possible?

I was shocked when I picked up my Kindle and saw that I had an advertisement on my lockscreen, and then I opened it up and saw the default Kindle homescreen instead of my Apex homescreen. My play store would not open, but I dug through the desktop on my laptop and found the tool I used before to root, "Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v33". The root worked, I reinstalled Play store, once I logged back in it is now working again. I too had supposedly blocked OTA push-updates, would love if someone could find a working way to do so on this new update. More than a nuisance than anything, having to fix all the stuff the update broke.

Not sure if Amazon has added any extra ways to push a OTA update in later versions but the best method I'm using to this day is blacklisting Amazon Device Client Platform (ADCP) from WiFi by using Android Firewall, still on Fire OS 7.2.3, I also renamed otacert.zip to otacert.bak (system/etc/security), not sure if that is successful but can't harm as a extra defense.
Amazon Device Client Platform (ADCP) has a lot of OTA entries so is the main service.
I'm also wondering if you could edit the build.prop to fool Amazon into think your running a higher update, but as I've already blocked it I've never really needed to test it.

So after this update, we have to reinstall root, playstore and app, and everything work as before?

I received the update without any warning. But the play store still working and every app from it. Root I haven't try it as I don't really use any root app. The Kindle is my kids tablet.

Thanks! At the moment I still have 7.4.8
First of all I rooted to haven't autodownload, because I share limited 3g connection between phone, pc and kindle

May I ask if you had android debugging enabled when you received update ?
Sent from my KFTT using xda premium

I didn't have debugging enable at the time. The kindle was set to reject OTA, it even had the OTAcert rename. NO biggies, just really wondering why I can't find any info on this update.

Just updated to 7.4.9_user_4952330 still no info about it anywhere.

I got the update and kept getting the error message the Play services have stopped. I factory reset, re-rooted and my Kindle was totally jacked up. All of the pictures and labels were gone, and it was NOT rooted. So I factory reset again and not sure where to go from here...lost my access to Play Store and all the associated apps. Can't re-root either.

I am running Kinology right now, I'm on 7.2.3. Any chance Amazon can somehow push the update to my device? I didn't even know there was such an update, I haven't messed with my Kindle since February. Anybody knows what's different in the latest version too?

What was the point in blocking the root exploit this late in the game... That kinda just makes them look like sore losers... Well at least we can downgrade with a fastboot cable, I don't suppose "adb reboot bootloader" works without root access?

Noob question: what does it mean to masquerade as s Galaxy Nexus? My Amazon Video Prime account says that my Kindle is not configured to play videos.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using Tapatalk
it means your Kindle appears to the market as a Galaxy Tab, meaning that you have the app availability as for the Tab
If already have this rom, then you are rooted which cancels your ability to watch Amazon Prime
You can temp unroot and Amazon Video will work.

The masquerade is a good thing. It lets you see apps on the market that would normally not be viewable, but still work fine on the Kindle Fire.
The issue you are having has really nothing to do with that, and all to do with the fact that you are rooted.
When the Amazon Video app runs (and it basically runs all the time), it looks to see if su is on the device and if it finds it, it will say you can't watch the videos.
You can fix this by using OTA RootKeeper (which you can now see in the Market) and using it to temporarily "un-root". Basically, it moves the su binary to a place that the Amazon Video app doesn't see.
o Get the OTA RootKeeper App https://market.android.com/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper and install it.
o Using it, click on the button that says unroot
o Now go to Settings -> Applications -> Running applications and find Amazon Video.
o Click on Force Close
Now you can use the Amazon Video app to watch your videos. After you start Amazon Video and run a video, you can go back and re-Root using OTA Rootkeeper and as long as you don't reboot your device, the Amazon Video will continue work fine as it only looks when it starts.
How should the options be set in OTA root keeper? I have it installed, but not sure which boxes should be checked.
Just press the unroot button... nothing else.
i ve done due with guide in #4 but when i trying buy free movie to check how is working this trick , message are displayed there was an error and your order may not have been processed ... should i try with chcanged proxy settings to us one?
running on 6.2.1 stock rooted
The steps in post #4 kind of assume that you had the ability to play and purchase Amazon Videos before you rooted. It is dealing with the Amazon Video app not allowing you to play content you already have available to you via your Amazon account.
You are talking about getting content for your Amazon Account.
Not being outside of the US, I'm not in that position, but I've read that in order to purchase content outside of the US you need to use a US credit card on your one click purchase options for your Amazon Account.
I'm sure that others outside the US that have done this can chime in.
It definitely rejects a non US credit card but I am not sure if there is a way around this. Not trying to steal anything, just want to buy it. Too bad they don't accept Paypal.

Sorry. Does OTA Rootkeeper only work with Modaco? I thought it was a pretty general app.
Thanks everyone
I downloaded OTA Rootkeeper, set it up, unrooted and the Amazon Prime Videos started flowing!
OTA Rootkeeper is just what I needed.
OTA Rootkeeper is ROM independent
I just happen to be using MaDaCo GR6 for my Kindle Fire. It's been a breeze getting my Kindle rooted and taking advantage of the Android Universe.

No, it works with a lot of roms and devices. However, whether it will work to allow you to use Amazon Video when using the MIUI rom, you would need to check with a MIUI thread which is why I said that. They would be able to give you a more accurate idea if you can do that with that rom. I've never tried MIUI.
I know that on some roms, Amazon Videos won't work regardless of what you do to view paid and account accessible videos.
As for OTA Rootkeeper, Even on the Kindle Fire, it doesn't work the same as it does on other devices where in some cases, it can actually prevent an OTA update from removing root (hence the name). That part of it doesn't work on the Kindle Fire since the OTA updates wipe the /system directory completely when they update.
With the stock roms and roms which uses stock like setups, OTA Rootkeeper works good for hiding being rooted by the Amazon Video app.
good explanation. Thanks.

Just a thought, but if you can get the phone back to saying "official" without the padlock maybe it will work. There are a bunch of threads about regaining official status floating around the forums. Some methods work for some and other methods work for others. It might be worth trying though.
Most importantly: did you grant this application root rights? I once had an authenticator for an online game that asked for root rights. If granted, it complained about the risks of using the authenticator on a rooted system. It was interesting.
Now, otherwise I can't see how DirecTV is checking your device to see if it's been compromised, or "security-tampered" ... Unless it has rights to check that "device status - custom" that the others here are referring to?
If that's the case, it should be easy enough to get rid of the "custom" status by using SuperSU instead of SuperUser. It involves downloading/installing SuperSU, updating it and the SU binary, and then uninstalling SuperUser (the app that comes with Motochopper). A reboot or two is usually necessary.
If you've uninstalled bloatware or installed a custom kernel or rom, you're pretty much stuck with "custom" until we find another way around this.

As mentioned, it is most likely either directly checking for known superuser apks or binaries or it is checking the "status" to determine if root has been achieved. If it is only checking for "status", then maintaining an "official" status should be enough to get it to run. If it actually checks for root, then the APK will need modifying to remove the check or return a reverse false positive or root will need to be removed.

This just confirms that we WONT be getting an update any time soon to 4.4.
Both Samsung and ATT have some sort of BS going on. Probably something with the additional bloatware not working with 4.4 and is the reason why they have not released 4.4 to the public.
This type of BS may push me over the edge with both Samsung and ATT.
Samsung needs to pull an Apple and not allow any carriers to add junk to their phones, thats one thing I respect about Apple.

From what i read in other threads I'm led to believe this is a temporary root, and will disappear upon reboot. It also installs kinguser, not superuser, and superuser cant be installed to replace it.
Also, this was from the Dev thread directly

Uh,.. I think you are 3 days late to the party.
I would suggest that you wait for a perm prerooted factory image to drop.
unless like the idea of the Chinese stealing all your data and losing root on every reboot.

no. nothing permanent about kingroot. every reboot it is gone.
tried on Verizon Note4 and when I opened the app, it just show me the envelope and didn't give me the lock like in the video. So it's not working for me.
I tried this kingroot last night, say for like 5/10 min til I got tired of waiting and then I Uninstalled the shop and nothing had occurred. But I have no bank or sensitive info on device, nothing financial or even remotely sensitive info... so was worth it to try.
But no go and no root. And I wad ready as when I upgraded to lollipop and set up phone, play store was reinstalling apps from my note 3, that I switch back and forth between, installed supersu and titanium (though I've no root on 4 obviously! ) I was ready to jump into titanium and start Uninstaller Bloat if
I got proof of root thru supersu granting it, or whatever the kingroot Su access is. .. either way I wad ready though. ...
No go. .. so I leave it at that till someone comes up with a surefire way too do this.
Reading up on multisystem now... looks interesting! Since no more safestrap..... multisystem looks the way next forward, though a tad bit complicated. It'll work eventually!

I would expect about ten times more traffic on this in the thread, but seems so suspect that most appear not to be biting. Me included, but not worth it anyway IMO due to just a temporary root.

Yeah, I thought people would get crazy, but I mean , temporary root is not so bad right? For example it would work to get rid of the s finder and quick connect persistent icons on the notification bar , right?

Android Pay works on unlocked, decrypted rooted 5X!!

Not sure the best thread to post this, so I figured I'd start a new one.
I just successfully used Android Pay on my unlocked, decrypted, rooted (with root temporarily disabled in SuperSU) Nexus 5X at Rite Aid!
I'll try to test at some more establishments.
I haven't seen anyone else test this yet, so hopefully this helps some of you on the fence who plan to use or already use AP extensively.

Oh really? Why is that?

Dont know the exact reason. Just know that I have tried from experience and read here in the forums everyone runs into this after reboot.

Interesting. I haven't seen anyone post that (not that I was really looking). I'll give it a try again this week and report back. Sorry for the false alarm then.

All the testing ive done....reboot brings it back to not working again.....there has to be someone who can figure this out
Does rebooting cause SuperSU to re-enable root? If that's not the case I imagine rebooting probably runs a system check for modified boot loader or whatever, which then sets a flag that Android Pay checks.
I've received my 5x (nice size, light and personally I think build quality is nice, coming from a Galaxy S4 and compared to wife's Nexus 6). Have to wait for the USB type C to USB 3 cable to root and decrypt.
Rebooted multiple times since rooting, Android Pay has had no issues. Still offers to add cards and such. It doesn't block payment right? I assume the issue is the app not loading properly overall.

Try to pay for something and see if it works.
Alright, that's the part I didn't test yet. I remember wallet would just deny you for being rooted or something, or at least it would give a message. I've seen no message and apparently if you just go into SuperSU then disable root it's assured to work. There are also obviously apps that can block an app from seeing the root status.

Android Pay uses the SafetyNet API. Hiding root from Android Pay will not do anything at the moment. Paying for something will not work either, but adding cards will

Do you have any update after reboot?
So I'll be trying to test this out tomorrow. I rooted and started Android Pay and tried to add a card, go the error that my hardware wasn't compatible, I hid/uninstalled SuperSU and reboot, then cleared all data from Android Pay, started it up again and it let me add my card and said everything is working.
When I get the chance to test I will report back my findings.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to try this out again. Hopefully sometime this weekend.
Does anyone know the scenario here? It works once and then once you reboot it never works again? Should I reboot with root enabled or disabled?
If you leave root disabled it will always work (At least in my case)...as soon as you add root back and reboot...no go

Wallet has always worked on rooted without a hitch this bs didn't start until android pay came out. Good thing I have a physical wallet card and primarily use wallet for wire transfers between family memebers...I switch to keytag/keyring (blue icon in play store) since the split of wallet/pay into separate apps and haven't had any problems.

So you can have an unencrypted phone and still have android pay working? Just can't have supersu flashed?
Yes, unencrypted and unlocked bootloader is fine. I have also been using chainfire's new systemless root method, and android pay works with it (for now)!
