unauthorized software?! - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Went to check for a software update and got this screen saying that my software has been modified in an unauthorized way. I just got this phone and have not rooted or unlocked bootloaser or anything like that. Any ideas? I use gnl and have changed animation speeds in dev options and im using ART.

Fixed, ART was causing the issue, switched to dalvik and all is good. Lame.

UK - T-Mobile Android 4.3 Update

4.3 became available yesterday and seems to have installed without a problem, but I haven't really noticed any real improvements yet.
There is now a "Reading Mode" - does anybody know what it does or how it can be set up?
Also, some apps that were running before while being hidden in Notifications, have now become visible? Even when I go in to their options and tick the box to hide the icon, they are still there?
Had 4.3 on T-Mobile for a month now.
It's a lot smoother.
Still getting reboot issue whih is deffo down to the Battery.
Will need to get replaced by Geek Squad.

FC when trying to activate Power Saving mode

Ive a problem when trying to activate the Power Saving mode in settings.
when i press it i always get a Force Close on the Settings app. i can press the quick settings button in the notification area, but that does not seem to activate anything.
anyone has any idea? should i try to clear data on the settings app? or will i lose all of my settings?
thx
Anyone any idea?
I noticed that it works now when I use the quick settings tile in the notification pull down. Don't know if that's because I rooted and Uninstalled a bunch of samsung apps.
Anyways it's now also visible as activated in settings, but clicking in settings results in an fc still.
Another thing I noticed is that gsam battery monitor does lose battery stats from time to time, maybe that's because of the same problem.

Please be absolutely sure about what systems apps do you want to remove, specially if they are Samsung packages. I'm cannot be sure but it looks like that is what's causing the issue.

If that is the case, try clearing cache from the Recovery and see if that works. If not, you can always try flashing the latest firmware!
Ok i will try tomorrow. But one question : where can I find the last firmware. I am pretty new to a Samsung device.
Thank you for your help
Edit:
I tried to clear cache and art cache. nothing has changed.

You can boot into safe mode by long pressing the restart button.

Just as the title says, long pressing restart from the power menu will give you the option to boot directly into safe mode.
That works, but the restore of third party apps never works for me afterwards, so be warned!

Come to think of it, I think it's only the Amazon App Store and all of their apps that I have installed that get wiped out.

Okay that makes a little more sense why I'm not seeing it. I don't have an Amazon apps installed. Seems like a good bug report for Google.

Haha, I doubt that Google is interested in keeping Amazon apps on the phone for safe mode, and may even be deleting them on purpose to be "safe". :silly:

Thing is that doesn't really pass the common sense test because I have quite a few apps that cannot be found on the play store and those weren't affected.
Also this isn't the first Android version with a safe mode but this is the first I have seen that wipes apps

Can We Enable System UI Tuner

Ive googled the hell out of LG G6 System UI Tuner, and searched all of the LG Specific forums on XDA, and came up with nothing.
Ive read that its possible to enable it on EMUI Devices, but havent found a way to enable it on the LG G6. Is this something we will have to wait until root/bootloader unlock is fully achieved, or something we can enable with ADB commands?
The main reason Id want access to the Tuner, is to disable these damned Peek/Heads Up notifications.
If the G6 is anything like the V20, LG has just removed the content of the activity altogether, which means short of recreating it in Smali, it's not going to work.
If you want, you can give my replica a shot: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-systemui-tuner-t3588675
You can edit what apps can show notifications by going to Settings>Apps and then edit each apps permissions and notifications
Sure can, but what a ballache
Is it possible through Nova launcher activities? I can access it on my htc m9 through that. I don't have a g6 yet, but looking to acquire one soon....

Yes it's possible and I've done it with this app. I've disabled the alarm, Bluetooth and the Wi-Fi icon on my G6

That's probably the closest we're gonna get until root is achieved, but it works for me.

Works like a charm, I think. I get my notifications, without a stupid annoying ass popup!!
Cant actually change the notification level of individual apps though. But everything is on the level I wanted, I think its 2, where it allows all alerts, but doesnt allow peek or full screen notification, which is what I HATE!

If you reboot, the notification level control should work. You need to tap the "A" icon to turn it off auto mode.

Not OP, but I just tried your app, and it worked exactly as expected after granting the permissions via ADB. Finally got the clutter (BT, NFC, Alarm) hidden from my status bar. The only thing I noticed was that after reboot, the Bluetooth toggle reset to on, but the icon was still hidden (reseting blacklist restored it). I didn't try playing with the other options.

I should be uploading a build within the next hour that'll fix your problem. The method I was using was ignoring the first item in the blacklist string (ie the first switch you used).
I really can't understand why companies like LG find it necessary to remove these things...I mean, it's not like it's a feature that can confuse some people (which is the only good reason I've heard for this type of thing) cuz this is pretty hidden to begin with.

I can't figure it out either. I decompiled the V20 System UI and saw that they'd basically just removed all the code from the Tuner activity, like a second thought.
Nvm i got it to work. Just cant get rid of that battery icon it seems,. darn it
The app helped me as well, though I couldn't get it to hide the WiFi Calling indicator. Also, I'd love for a way to get a battery icon with the numbers inside the battery...wtf my first ever android phone from 2011 had that as an option, the heck LG?

Battery drain!!

Hello... Lately i have an issue with my phone with battery drain

Conditions of phone :
No Root
Locked Bootloader
Stock ROM v331
Stock Kernel
Mods i use :
Andromeda + Substratum : Flux White & Navigate
Here is the screenshot
Which Rom?
Did you test the drain and stuff, or used any battery stats app to figure out the leak?

Thanks for info!
The latest update has re-enabled Google Play Services (GPS) as the prime battery drainer. Not so much Android System, which is made to work overtime by GPS. I've confirmed this on my 6/64 ZB602KL after much monitoring.
My sequence of remedial action goes something like this (not necessarily in the exact order or method*):
Wipe cache partition after 331 update and use your phone normally for a day or so.
Then, with network and data on, open GPS in Settings->Apps and notifications->Show system.
Click on Storage. Clear cache and then click on Manage Space. Click Clear all data bar at the bottom a few times.
Return to the initial menu. Click on FORCE STOP and then click on the 3 dots at the top right. Choose Uninstall updates.
DISABLE.
Now re-enable GPS.
Scroll down to the bottom and click on App details. This will take you to Play Store where you can update GPS to the latest version again.
Launch Google based apps like Play Store, Gmail, Contacts, YouTube, etc to reconnect GPS and/or Android System to Google again.
Done. Excessive battery drain with 331 will still be there but not as bad as before.
* You may try this method or just uninstall updates from the beginning, clear data/cache, disable, enable and then update GPS again. I'm not very sure either as I'm still trying out this solution.
Either way, there seems to be a slight improvement in power drain after performing this unnecessary task - thanks to Asus' idea of "system optimization".
Good luck.
Edit: restart your phone after doing the above.

The stand by battery drop during night until morning is good now. Woke up this morning and saw that not much battery percentage is affected on stand by.
