Custom binary blocked by reactivation lock - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I accidentally forgot to uncheck the reactivation lock before i went into my custom recovery. I cant reboot my developers device now and am stuck. "Custom binary blocked by reactivation lock" I don't have access to Odin as I have Mac. Already tried going into download mode and restarting phone. Any options?

Access a PC, d/l Oden3_v3.09 and the SM-G900V tar and rebuild
Sucks, being surrounded by fruit.
you might try to go into stock recovery, (home/volume up/power) and select wipe data/factory rest.

What are you referring to exactly when you said"Sucks, being surrounded by fruit." Ok well it was a pain in the ass to get to use a friends PC just to use odin to obtain root and flash. JODIN is saying on my mac that PIT is corrupt when it tries to make a file! It did this before. I have no idea why! I really wish i remembered to uncheck that damn samsung security setting before i went into recovery to do a recent backup! Crap! Maybe i can go out and rent a computer or something for now? I need to get this done in short time.

I have the zip files loaded and unloaded and when i go into PDA to place the file nothing shows up. Phones connected successfully. I'll have to try another day possibly. People give me lots of crap when i need to borrow a PC.
It says COM in blue but nothing in the above boxes. I was able to download the samsung drivers successfully.

I can tell you that I was able to odin the stock VZW tar to pass. My phone works fine, so the tar is good. But no root. I would think this would restore your phone, if you can get into download mode. :fingers-crossed:

Ok that didn't help at all.... yes there's problems but not with phone but rather odin with the tar and zip files not showing up in PDA.

Here's what i'm talking about the tar file I go to put in PDA but after trying to open it it's just blank space and ODIN reads nothing. I think it might be because I have to use 7zip to unpack ODIN File. If that doesn't work then i'm not sure what will...

I use peazip but 7zip is used by many. Try the Odin 3.07. I believe that is what that old post recommended.

Whenever I try to update using the system update it downloads the update and when it tries to install it bootloops my device which I unbrick using an odin file I found somewhere around here. I believe I may have uninstalled an important system file with titanium backup which is causing the softbrick or the root, either way will I be able to reflash the rom? Or is there another solution?

Yes it will affect it. It'll delete it. It will delete your device and return it to like new. But you should get some working device again

[GUIDE] Extract bootloader and Make flashable ODIN Tar.md5

Hello all,
This is my first GUIDE thread, hope it will help you.
I will update interface of this thread regularly and try to answer your questions.
Story: As i flashed many devices (mine,friends,relatives,...) i understand that SOMETIMES bootloaders makes difference. I know they don't have functions of KERNEL or MODEM but some random reboots can be caused by bootloaders, so by updating bootloader, you probably(or maybe) overcome to them. I was searching a lot and found THIS thread although it is very nice thread/REFERENCE but not updated... so i posted a request there for new bootloader and didn't get any response for days and that makes me to learn how to this task by myself.
so here we are the Required Tools:
1- STOCK Firmware: you can download it from anywhere you want, however i prefer sammobile, just note that you have to register(which is free) in sammobile in order to download firmwares.
NOTE!!!: don't download operator firmwares like(orange,Tmobile,...) i am not sure whether their bootloader is safe(locked/unlocked) or not.
2- WinRAR: to extract ZIP, RAR, TAR, TAR.MD5, it is paid application but it is functioning even after trial period and it only gives you a notification, I know there are many alternatives but I tested with this software and recommend it to anyone.
3- [Script][Tool] how to create a tar.md5 file from img For Odin go to this thread download tar-Tool_Odin3-v3.07_by_mkh.mourad.zip and extract it to some folder lets call it Flashing(can be anything) on your desktop.
!!!!!!!!Credits of this tool goes to user mkh.mourad thanks to him for this great handy tool, otherwise you had to do many other steps...
4- Odin for PC: I tested Odin v3.09 i don't know whether lower version would work or not. (do not use Mobile Odin look at the warning section point 3)
UPDATE: Odin v3.10 tested and it worked too, moreover odin v3.10 is fastest, use this version please.
Now INSTRUCTION:
1- Download your desired firmware (NOTE: see "Required tools" section)
2- Extract it anywhere you want and you will see *.tar.md5 file extract it again (* name of the firmware is not important)
3- After extracting *.tar.md5 you will see several files with extensions *.img and *.bin, we need >>sboot.bin>>
4- Extract content of tar-Tool_Odin3-v3.07_by_mkh.mourad.zip to any folder that you want, copy sboot.bin from previous step to this folder(the folder that you have extracted tar-Tool_Odin3-v3.07_by_mkh.mourad.zip)
5- Now you can see bunch of batch files and of course sboot.bin that you have copied there, run ImgToTar.MD5.bat, the command window will open and after a few seconds will disappear. now in that same folder you can see sboot.tar.md5 which is the odin flashable bootloader.
After creating final sboot.tar.md5 do not rename it because MD5 value get changed by renaming so odin will refuse to flash file (invalid MD5 error)
Note that if you use windows OS you would see sboot.tar NOT sboot.tar.md5 which is ok. (you can see it if you look in file's properties or turn on "show file extension" option in folder options)
6- Very very very very important, you must go into download mode by hardware buttons (turn off device or pull out and in battery just to be safe, press Volume down + home button and power it on) please do notgo to bootloader from reboot menu i warned you.
7- Open odin, unthick Auto reboot, click on BL, and add sboot.tar.md5, plug your phone in download mode and flash, IMPORTANT: wait till it write all threads completed and port color became GREEN with PASS written in it, it will take about 2-3 minutes be patient.
UPDATE: if you use odin v3.10 you wont have to wait this much because after a few seconds unlike odin v3.09 the port color became green. So i recommend you to use v3.10
8- After above step finished, unplug your phone, hold power button till phone get rebooted
9- DONE, enjoy your new bootloader, if you use Boeffla kernel you can go into stweaks and check your bootloader version or use "phone info" application from market.
WARNING!!!
1- I am not responsible for any hard bricks, bootloader flashing is risky and it can make your phone unusable, do it on your RISK
2- Method above is tested by me on my I9300, i don't know whether it will work for other S3 varients or other phones... UPDATE: Working on Note 3 N900 too, seems this method could work on most of the Samsung phones...
3- Do not use Mobile Odin to flash this bootloader(or any!?), it may give you md5 error or may be WORST, brick the phone Thanks to @nainaabd
Downloads
XXUGNG3 bootloader you can get in attachment, made by the above method and tested by me on i9300 just extract zip and flash XXUGNG3.tar by odin
XXUGNH4 Thanks @katolink
UBUGNI1 Thanks @katolink
XXUGNJ2 Thanks @k-semler
UBUGNK1 Thanks @k-semler
EDIT: Attached bootloader fixed, i updated step 5 of instruction, please read there to find out why you would get md5 error...

I got root access on mine with ODIN
I did it with ODIN and a file called SM-T550_cf-autoroot.tar. It took 5 sec. . My problem is it still the same ROM. I'm wanting some custom ROMs.
SM-T550_cf-autoroot.tar is the recovery file
and I had ODIN3 v3.10.
get root checker basic from the app store to verify root.
have fun
Got root without Tripping KNOX on SM-T355Y
Tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/root-stock-lollipop-5-0-2-kingroot-t3158198 and confirm it works. (You might have to dig into the thread though)
Make sure you have removed the kingroot before you restart else you would end up in a boot loop
Posting this here as I had to search a lot and this is the first link that google comes up with (Moderators, please feel free to move to a suitable thread)

flash it with OIDN 3.10.6

I treid it again, but it is not working now for me too no idea what changed, however it looks like there is a specific configuration which allows the king root hack.
The only thing I observe as of now is I am not able to root my device after i reflashed it with the ROM (link in my previous post).
Trying my permutation combinations in my free time, will let you know if I am successful again.

Tried with King root again, was able to get the temporary root on my device SM-T355Y, No KNOX tripping, Attaching Screen shots.
BTW:
Steps followed before i forget:
1. Go to download mode, check KNOX status (don't know if this matters! but i did it)
2. download the king root from here : Site or copy
3. install and run, it would take some time to install, my device dint restart
4. Chainfire Install SuperSU and root checker
5. try starting SuprerSU, it asked for up gradation of SU binary, clicked OK, installation failed, asked me to restart.
6. Restarted the Device
7. Checked with RootChecker
8. Granted permanent permission to SuperSU in KingRoot
9. Started SuperSU, asked me to upgrade binary, cancelled and upgraded to pro
10. Power off and checked download mode
11. Restart and recheck Root status, it still exists !
Seems like temporary root? as the root vanishes once the kingroot is uninstalled! (Experience from last time dint try again :angel
Hope this helps, now I need to see how to install chainFires temp root, may be @Chainfire could comment how it worked.

You could have used the url tags to post the pic.
That happens when your bootloader doesn't match the kernel.
CF-AUTOROOT isn't compatible with MM.
You need to use twrp to flash supersu.

Root +TWRP for SM-P355
I followed
Root Samsung Galaxy Tab A T350/355, P350/355 On Android Lollipop
and
How To Root Samsung Galaxy With CF-Auto-Root In Odin
This gave me permanent root (but KNOX counter is now 1)
Then I flashed TWRP 2.8.7.1 from [RECOVERY][TWRP][SM-T350/355/357/550/555][SM-P355/550/555] (direct file link: twrp-2.8.7.1-p355.tar)
Now I have permanent root and TWRP for backups . Knox is triggered, but I do not really care about that.
Next I will try to make a debloated version of the Samsung ROM (Lollipop first, maybe Marshmellow later).

I have Soft-Bricked my s5, and tried almost everything. what to do?

Hello there xdadevelopers!
Today I made the brilliant descision to root my Samsung Galaxy S5 ( SM-G900F ) with a tool called KINGO ROOT.
Aware of the fact that there is a risk while rooting your phone, I procceed forward and now im left with a useless, expensive piece of electronic..
The tool i used said root was successfully installed, but my phone got stuck on the "samsung loading screen". after 40 minutes i decided to remove the battery and try again, same thing happend. I tried to use the "remove cahce/factory" setting ( or what ever its called) and that did not help. I have also tried to install the standard firmware through ODIN, but that failed over and over again at "img.ext4"..
I've also looked through this forum to find a solution, but nothing matches my problem it seems.
I really have no idea what to do anymore. :crying: I really hope someone could help me out with this problem, im sure there is others that would benefit from the same help aswell
Really should have done some research here on XDA first, but let's try and get you back up and running
You downloaded the stock ROM from sammobile .com for the G900F ?
Download and extract this PIT file
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2721101&d=1399024091
Put the phone in Download Mode from a powered off state: (Volume Down & Home & Power) release when text appears, and hit Volume Up to enter download mode
Make sure samsung drivers are installed
Connect phone to PC > USB
Ensure ODIN 3.10.7 says connected and shows the COM port at the top
Add the PIT file to the PIT section
Add the ROM (Extracted to .MD5) to the AP or PDA section
Hit Start
--
All being well, it should begin the flashing process, and complete successfully, rebooting the phone back into Android
--
To root - extract and flash CF Auto Root for the G900F with ODIN in download mode again (Some G900Fs need a different method, but try this first)
http://download.chainfire.eu/397/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-klte-kltexx-smg900f.zip

Hello and thanks for answering that quickly!
I have now downloaded the stock rom from sammobile, along with the PIT file and ODIN 3.10.7 which you directed me to.
However I did not manage to get the flashing completed.
I added the .md5 file to the AP section in ODIN, and the PIT file was added to the PIT section. I left the options untouched ( Auto reboot ticked, re-partition ticked and F. reset time ticked aswell. everything else was unticked )
It did start the flashing and it kept going for a couple of minutes, but at the very end it failed at 99% completion this is the log:

What did i do wrong? I tried it several times and i ended up with the same result..
I also had this problem but got out of it By downloading an earlier firmware for my phone. This is a tips guide I donei after I soft bricked due to me leaving the activation lock on! http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/read-flashing-rom-t3145703 hope this helps?
Along with the above ^^, when you put your phone in download mode, does is also say the model is the G900F ?
Some S5s have conflicting info about exactly which model they are, the section you need to trust, is download mode, double check it says G900F in download mode

I have now tried a 4 different firmwares, some older than the other to see if it would flash correctly.
I tried to flash only the firmware, then i tried firmware+ the PIT file you suggested in your first answer.
I also tried the PIT file all by itself, this worked , after that i tried the firmware, but that did not work..
I keep getting the same " FAIL!" over and over again when I try to flash the firmware.
At the end of the log it says " <ID:0/004> FAIL! (Size) " no matter what firmware i try to flash.
Any Ideas ?

Maybe I have done this so many times that my phone simply dont have enough space to successfully do a flash ?
Is it any way to wipe the phone clear maybe ?

You could try flashing a specific version of TWRP Recovery with ODIN, version TWRP 2.8.7.0
https://dl.twrp.me/klte/twrp-2.8.7.0-klte.img.tar
Flash from AP / PDA again, without extracting this time
If that flashes, try booting into recovery, Volume Up & Home & Power
If that is successful, try flashing a custom ROM from TWRP

TWRP 2.8.7.0 did flash without a problem. and now I did manage to boot into recovery - and now i have alot of options from Twam Win Recovery Project , and i guess im going in the right direction here hehe.
However I have no idea how to flash a custom ROM from TWRP. Do you mind walking me through the steps ?
you need to sideload a rom to your device or push it to sdcard

Great, OK well this is a popular ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2732110
Instructions on how to install are on the main post
Basically copy the ROM to the MicroSD Card, and flash it using TWRP, but follow the instructions on this thread
Format / wipe everything apart from external SD from TWRP wipe menu
Go to the Install menu, and flash that ROM
Flash Gapps (Google apps) not sure if included, but not needed for flashing the ROM initially
Reboot, hopefully into the new ROM

If you don't have an adapter, you`ll have to buy one, they're cheap as chips - or find another device that works, you can use to copy the ROM to it with
You could try mounting the external SD (MicroSD) in TWRP, and plugging the phone into the PC and see if it is recognised, but I haven't tried that

No, that is not original firmware, it comes with benefits such as customisation, overclocking if the kernel allows, better speed, debloated (No crapware), more free storage, probably can install Xposed Framework for loads of tweaks and hacks and mods
Basically just about anything you want to change about your phone, you should be able to with a custom ROM, or at least request that change to the dev in that ROMs thread
But now that you have TWRP installed, you can pick and choose any custom ROM you want to try by using the same method you used to get this one installed
World is your oyster now

Ive now used it for a couple of days. and its just amazing! However I have encountered some problems with apps not working correctly. Snapchat wont load stories, and I cant watch any snapchat movies - but normal images works great when sending to my friends, which is weird. I get this errer " could not connect to server, please try again later". have tried to reinstall, clear cache etc but it seems it wont work. Ill read through the Xtrestolite thread and see if i find a solution now as Im a little more familiar with the forum
If I decide to install another ROM, is it any way that i can backup my whole phone ? so if i mess up again I can just reflash the one thats backed up, and all my apps and stuff will be just like it was ?
Yea sure, just boot back into TWRP, goto the 'Backup' section, and create a full Nandroid backup, tick all the boxes other than the caches
Make sure you have enough room on your external MicroSD (Select that as the backup location)
Once that is done, you can wipe, flash etc etc, play about with any ROM you like, and if and when you want to go back to your backup, just wipe the old one, and restore the backup from TWRP again, and your phone should be exactly the way it was when you backed it up once it finishes first boot
Very powerful recovery is TWRP

Thanks alot again!
Im experiencing some problems with some apps while using the Xtrestolite.
- Snapchat, wont load Stories at all, and wont open private video snaps, but normal pictures sent to my friends works. ( states that there was a problem connecting to the server, but when i use my Samsung S3 it works just fine )
- Dropbox - unable to preview any pictures and videoes
- larger apps/games that requires extra download ( like 3-500 MB ) wont open/load/download at all.
To me it seems that there is a problem with the phone writing temp files, such as snapschats, dropbox preview pictures.
Do you see any pattern here, maybe even some suggestions?

Did you do a FULL WIPE? Sounds like something went wrong, try SuperWipe, but make sure you have the Rom.zip on your external SD Card & not on you phone memory or you will not have nothing to flash & you will have to start mucking about. Hope this helps

Thanks @jrkruse I downloaded and read through your EASY_ROOT_ROM post. Would following your EASY_ROOT_ROM steps be better or does that include more steps than I really need?

thats what you need but you may have to extract the pit file located in the CSC_OYM_**** file and load it in the pit tab in odin and flash it with the above firmware

Thanks for your help on this. Yes, the phone is currently on the B/11 bootloader.
I selected the appropriate BL, AP, CP, CSC (tried both HOME and not). Tried extracting the PIT file out and loading it separately like you suggested. Using PrinceCosmy ODIN v3.12. I only selected auto-reboot and F. Reset Time. Still fails. Should I try selecting any other on the ODIN options tab like BL update or Nand Erase All?
I tried an earlier G935U ROM w/out breaking out the PIT file and it failed too.

I tried an earlier G935U ROM w/out breaking out the PIT file and it failed too.

try using regular odin
Split out PIT from CSC which checks ‘re-partition’ option, loading BL, AP, CP, CSC:
Auto-reboot, F Reset Time and Phone bootloader update is also checked.
This is with regular odin. Not much on the error though.
At one point, I got an error on writing emmc_appsboot.mbn.lz4 from the BL. 'Write failed' was the error. Now the phone is stuck in a boot loop, unless in download mode.

Use this odin and maybe try a different cable also make sure the files are on your computer and not a storage device
Thank you! Switching the cable worked! I got so far down the rabbit hole, I forgot to check something like that.
