[Q] problems with sacs custom rom - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Can somebody help me out here. Loaded Sacs and had some problems with sd card. Would not write ANYTHING to sd. Formatted SD thinking that would fix the issue. Didnt work. Made a backup, wiped everything, then restored. Now it boots, all processes stop, then it restarts. Not sure what to do next.

Got it fixed, kind of. Went back into CWM, wiped everything (again), used advanced restore option, restored only the boot and system. Now everythig works except SD card. Dont know what to do. Open camera and it will take a picture, but will not save to SD card or internal memory. Like everything is write protected or something.

Can anyone help???? Please

Sounds like something Folder Mount in the Play Store will fix it.

Trying it. Said it found a faulty item and it will attempt a fix. Rebooting now to see if it works.

BAM!!!!!!!! Fixed it............ Thank you sooooooo much!!!!!!

Glad I could help. Happy flashing.

[Q] Big problem! (SOLVED)

Using nightly 150 and everything was going well. Now the nook can't quite get through an entire boot process. The screen goes blank and I have to reboot/plug into charger/unplug/replug. When trying to restore back to an old backup it gets about halfway through restoring system before the screen goes black and may or may not reboot. I have been trying to fix this for 3 days now. I cant get through a whole restore process without this happening. I need help. Thank you in advance for any ideas/suggestions.
EDIT: I put on a new anti-glare screen protector just minutes before this started. Could that have anything to do with this? Four corners being pushed down or something like that. Just thought I'd throw that in there.
In CWM, format System, Data, and Cache. Then install the latest Nightly, and from there re-flash CWM. Then restore the backup of data.

I have tried this from recovery and it does not get through the install before shutting off on me. Should I try using a CWM SD card? Do you think that would make a difference?
Definitely try a CWM sd card. Make the sd card and copy the "clockworkmod" folder from your current sd card to the CWM sd card. From there restore the backup.
Edit: Try taking off the Screen Protector first.
Solved! I think it might have had something to do with my charger. The base of the cable is frayed and it may have not been getting charged. So the battery would die before it was getting through the install. Never gave me the battery low indication though til today. Thank you iKing for your fast response. Calling 1800thebook to see if they still send out new ones!
Alright, Congrats on getting it to work. And yes, they should give you a free cable. They did mine when my cable was screwed. Good Luck!
Gotta be the worst cable ever made!

Acer Iconia A500 stuck in boot loop or bricked?

Ok, I looked in some of the threads already posted, but didn't really see the problem that I am having.
My A500 gets stuck in boot loop. I can access the recovery and wipe data, flash etc... however, none of that is working. After I have wiped EVERYTHING and reflashed the Thor ROM 14.2 I get stuck in boot loop again with the little blue android with the spinning gears... That's it. I'm spent, I have no idea what I should do next. I only paid $260 for this bad boy, so I'm not sending it to ACER to charge me money to fix it... Any ideas?
Have you tried to format your sd card and place a fresh download of the rom you wish to flash on the sd and tried again.. It sounds like there is something corrupt.
This would my first thing to try from what i understand about your Question . If you try the above and still have issues. post back all the details that caused you to end up in this situation. from rom version you were on at first and recovery your using as well as details on how you flashed.
Good Luck.
I'll try that, but skeptical about it. Since I last posted, I have tried a nandroid restore, flashing a different rom, a couple more complete data wipe/factory data resets, no luck on that. I am formatting the SD card now, in hopes I can get a good clean flash?
Edit: I just realized all the wipedata/factory rests I've been doing haven't worked as they never complete. They say 'error formatting...' and before I can read what all it says it cannot format, it disappears. I guess at first I just thought it was wiping really fast...
edit: formatting the sd card, did not work. im still stuck in bootloop.
Edit: I think I found my solution here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23246074#post23246074
so far it seems to be working...
So that link got you up and running? I'm always afraid of the boot loop and like to prepare for the worst

Do you get an error message when you try to wipe data factory reset? If you do then your data partition is corrupt, happened to me yesterday. the way you fix this is go into recovery>backup/restore> toggle backup and restore of internal storage (/data/media) so it says enabled>mounts and storage>format data. Then you should be good to go. This REALLY formats the data partition so EVERYTHING will be deleted on it.
first, sorry for my bad english. I've been able to light up my acer a500 but I got stuck in airplane mode on email section.any one can help me?

[Q] CROMi 4.2.1 Install Issues

Got a question here on installing CROMi 4.2.1, love the ROM when I get it working, my problem is, whenever a new version is out and I try to install I run into all kinds of issues. I'll try to outline the exact problems I'm having here. It goes something like this, I will download new ROM, throw it onto SD card, then boot into recovery and attempt to install. Now if I try to install without clearing any caches/data etc. it will say it installs, but then it won't boot into the ROM at all, just sticks at ASUS screen. So I go through and clear everything, internal, system, dalvik cache etc. Then I try to install again, usually it will fail at least 5-6 times, sometimes it just won't do it at all, so I'll reboot, go into recovery again and try it, still no go. Then I'll use a different SD card, still won't work right, then I'll clear everything again and go for another try and after 3 or 4 or more failed times it will finally install and boot. So I'm curious if there's just something obvious and dumb that I'm missing here, or if it's just a normal issue with this and something that will always be there? It just doesn't make sense to me that it would fail so many times and just work for no apparent reason? Any pointers would be much appreciated!
I assume your using twrp 2.4.4.0-4.2 as your installing CROMi for 4.2.1 and on the 4.2.1 bootloader (10.6.1.8)?
If so not sure this is the issue but I have had & read of other's having issues with some micro sd cards using twrp 2.4.4.0-4.2
You could try in twrp doing a full wipe (cache, dalvik cache, factory reset, system, internal storage) then in twrp file manager copy the CROMi rom zip from your micro sd to your internal storage and install the rom from there and see if that works without issue.

Yep those are the versions I'm working with! Didn't realize there were sd card issues, thanks for the info. One last question, where should I copy the ROM to on the internal storage? Don't want to accidentally copy to a place that's gonna get wiped during install.
Sounds like you have something corrupted.
I'd do a full wipe of internal storage (making sure you have all your backups on external storage), flash the rom and see if that helps.
Also if your ext card is causing issues try booting without it in after the first flash.....

The famous sbdags himself responds! Just wanted to take the opportunity to tell you that your ROM is incredible, puts the Transformer on par with, or better than the iPad. Installed RC2 this morning and it is running great! Thanks for all the great work. When I was having those install issues I would do a full wipe of internal, system, and all caches, but installs would still fail extremely often. The strange thing is, that after a few wipes, and numerous times trying to install, it would finally work and boot and everything would work fine. I'm thinking it has something to do with how the SD card interacts with the recovery system but maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. All that I know is that I downloaded on my tab this morning, and ran the install from the internal storage, and bam, flawless install the first time around. So I'm going to give some kudos to pjc21 because I think it was just an issue with the SD card interfacing with recovery.

If you have a good CWR backup restoring everything should bring you back know to working condition.
If not I would consider doing a brand new, clean install of the rom and link2sd. You could restore apps and data with Titanium Backup.

Task 29 shouldn't be necessary. When you say it disappeared do you mean the i on was no longer there? Did it show up on the all programs list? Did you look for it with a file explorer in /system/apps? Or maybe with ROM Toolbox?

Everybody lies, but it doesn’t matter since no one listens.

So lemme give more details then, i did a factory reset, it was there wen the phone booted again. But after another reboot it all disappeared, nothing there in the app list or anywhere else, after another factory reset teh same happened, then i flashed the rom again. It was there n after a reboot it again disappeared, i rly dont get why this was happening, anyhow, i made an icon to the store after another reset n it stayed there n now it works but some basic apps r missin. Also it keeps having random reboots.

I don't know link2sd - never used it. My limited understanding is that it allows apps to be moved to an ext3 or ext4 partition on the card, yes?
If you do a factory reset all connections to the sd-ext partition are lost. Technically, the apps and data are still there but nothing in your device knows it. There may be a way to place link2sd back in a new ROM to reconnect with the previously installed apps but I am not certain of this.
Does your ROM have a DataOnEXT install option? It may be a simpler and cleaner way to move the data partition to the sd-ext partition instead of link2sd.
The Play Store should be part of the ROM you installed. I have no idea how it can disappear if not removed.
Like I said, if the ROM has a DataOnEXT option I would look into that choice but in any event you will most likely end up doing a clean install if you cannot successfully relink your sd-ext partition.

It does, im using then NexusHD2 rom, the one posted by tytung. First i did a native sd install, i have a class10 card but it was very laggy, so i thot ima do a full nand one. I also thot of installing Jelly Bean, do u need to wipe anything before a fresh install or do i just flash the zip over it?

You need a fresh install, repartition your recovery, factory reset, then install the rom.
Coming to your earlier problem, i used to use link2sd but it gave me problems, the NexusHD2 ICS rom already has an a2sd script. I think the problem is that link2sd interferes with the a2sd script in place. My suggestion, DONT INSTALL LINK2SD! It gave me loads of problems, not the one you stated but still, apps wont go the ext partition and all that....
So install the rom again, ( remeber to clear cache too ) and use it without link2sd
ok, thanks, ima repartizion it, clear the cache n do a fresh install then. Thanks for the help guys

cwm recover not recognizing restore files

I recently rooted my phone and tried a few different roms. I'm currently on cyanogen mod 10.2. I used cwm to backup my original ROM. I copied the backup file to my computer and uploaded it to my dropbox. I formatted my SD card since it had a lot of junk on it. I copies them back and now they aren't being recognized. This is my original stock ROM and since this is my first time rooting I really want to keep a stock ROM on hand for easy access incase I mess something up and need my phone to work properly. Thanks for any help. Its also a Samsung s4 i337m from fido.
can you see the backup and it's just not letting you restore it or can you not see the backup at all?
i'll tell you to keep researching and troubleshooting but if all else fails, odin back to stock, reroot, install cwm and make a new stock backup again.
Its not appearing in cwm at all unless i have a restore that was on it post format and not copied off the computer. Like if I make a backup of my current ROM the stock one will appear and just hang in checking md5. If there are no backups other than the original stock one it isn't being recognized. Also it worked before I formatteebthe SD card.
when you formatted the card and then replaced the cwm backup, where did you place the backup?
for example: 0/clockworkmod/backup, /clockworkmod/backup, etc.
if you make a backup now, where does it save the new one?
i'm just running through the bases here.
Sorry I don't know the exact locatiotion but I just dragged and dropped the "Clockworkmod" That cwm created when I made my first restore to my PC. Formatted the SD card and just dragged and dropped it back to the SD card. The new restore saves in the same folder also.
i'm assuming they're both in something like sdcard1, extSdCard or external_sd /clockworkmod/backup.
if so, and you didnt change cwm versions (i.e. from 6.0.3.6 to 6.0.4.4), then something may have been corrupted when moving the backup folder back and forth.
Yes that seems about right. I didn't change anything on cwm, unless my ROMs did. If it is corrupted will it just hang indefinitely or is there a chance it can work? And is there any other way to do a restore?
i'm no recovery expert but if your backup is corrupt than i dont imagine there's a fix for it.
i accidentally deleted my stock backup a couple phones ago. in order to have a fully stock backup on the sd card again (in the event i needed/wanted to restore to the original factory setup), i had to odin back to the stock firmware and start over.

Try to re-downloading from drop box. Could have gotten corrupted during the download process.
Download it straight from dropbox to the SD card through the phone?

Nope, no luck. It just hangs at checking MD5 Sums. I tried the backup i made for foxhound 2.0 and it did the same thing.
edit: It worked it was just hanging for a good 15 minutes though.

Can you have cwm not check for the md5? It's been awhile since I've used cwm. I use twrp.
Edit, doesn't look like you can. I just flashed cwm to see. Was the foxhound nandroid one you just made and it still doesn't restore?

yeah, thats what i was gonna ask: if you've made one just now and tried restoring it.
Ok thanks for the help but the problem resolved itself after letting ti hang until it did something. It worked after about 15 minutes.
edit: I just rooted the phone a few days ago and I'm all new to this, so i figured after it not doing anything for 5 mins with the dead android on the screen was bad. Thanks for the help.

Good, yea a restore and reboot can take longer than you think. And waiting seems like forever when you're expecting it to boot. You'll get used to it.
