Hey there,
I am pretty much a noob to all of this so please stay with me
I run a rooted Nexus10 with CM11 (20140603 currently) and need to use an ethernet to USB adapter via OTG. My OTG cable works fine using stick drives etc., but my tablet does not seem to recognize my adapter.
I tried using "ifconfig eth0" after first plugging everything into the OTG cable and then the cable into the Nexus - but to no avail.
I'd be very glad if any1 could help me out with this. I spent the last couple of hours reading through various threads throughout the internet, but was not able to find any solution :/
Best,
dersami
P.S.: Adapter: Königs CMP-NWUSB20

Does anyone have another idea? Im kind of in a bad spot right now, further research didn't quite help
Android only supports specific Ethernet chipsets out of the box (included drivers). So your adapter must be one of the supported ones or have drivers you can install which means you also need to be rooted. Search in the Nexus 10 accessories section to find numerous threads on Ethernet adapters. I have such a thread on my success with a gigabit Ethernet adapter with copious details.

I think the last Nexus devices were able to host USB drives such as usb sticks etc., so do you think that it will be possible with this one?
16gb would be more than enough for me if I only use it for rom, apps, pictures and music but 720p movies won't have enough place (maybe just 1 or 2).
Is USB host mode maybe available for nearly every device (maybe only after another kernel)?
And I read somewhere that it is possible to host usb drives with "Nexus Media Importer", but it is also possible to access them via ES File Explorer for example or maybe even with Play Movies / Play Music?
At the moment I use HTC Desire (smaller movies at ~1gbyte), slowly it's time for an upgrade and this would be a must-have for me otherwise I won't buy it atm...
Maybe with USB OTG I could buy only 8gb, that would be really nice because 50€ (65USD) for 8gb is really expensive :/
Thanks for (hopefully incoming) answers
+1
Planned to ask the same, but you opened a topic already
Also with this if anyone knows. Can you access a OTG source from a recovery like CWM or TWRP? That would make the 16GB meaningless.
Yes the Nexus 4 supports usb OTG (and you probably won't need a custom kernel for this)
Yes you can use ESFile explorer and run everything from your hard drive
I think latest TWRP offer OTG support but I'll probably never use it since you may "brick" your phone if the flash fail and not sure if otg is perfectly stable...

Thanks for the answer :good:
Is the USB drive automatically mounted?
And is the media on it displayed in medi player apps like Music or MX Player or do I have to click on each single file with ES file explorer to play it?

Where have you got this information?? I can say out the box OTG is not working. Anyone have any ideas yet?
Would it be possible to have a Nexus 4 case with a microSD slot that connected via USB OTG?
For me an attached normal USB Flash Drive (8GB) did not work. Even the light of the flash drive did not a single blink.
I am not sure if the Nexus 4 provides Voltage for usb devices.
Just to confirm, the Nexus 4 does not support USB OTG out of the box. Just tested it myself - works fine on the missus' Galaxy S2, but not on my Nexus 4.
I'm fairly certain that you still need to be rooted for it to work properly, as with the Nexus 7.
There's an app called "nexus media importer" on the play store for otg

Yup - No luck
There's a shread of light that OTG works with the N4 rooted?
Hope it does cause if not...not buying it.
I have been hitting my head on a brick wall all these days. Please would any USB controller with an otg adapter work out of the box with the nexus 7?, without any need for rooting and such?. ...and with rooting, how do I go about configuring generic PC gamepads to work with it.. Thank you.
Will probably have to root it. Could try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.killig.gamepadime (requires root), no guarantees it will work.

You could try usb/bt joycenter from the market. I dont think it requires root. Im not saying it will work, but not saying it wont either. Hope it does though.

most likely no; monitors that can actually use USB are programmed to send a signal over USB. The Nexus 10 (Android itself rather) can't do this that I'm aware of.
I've tried iDisplay in the past over USB and it would just crash the display server on my computer, not sure why.

how about using an ethernet cable from laptop to N10?? *high hopes*
wonder if any developers could give it a try??
Hello,
My question is, I see everywhere on the internet USB sticks with Android on it for the TV. All the USB sticks having proccesors etc. Now is it my question is it possible to run Android on a normal USB stick or is this not possible. So I have a standard USB stick without RAM memory etc and no proccesors, and I want to know if it works to put a Android version on it and run it on a TV..
Can someone answer my question or knows a sollution or is this not possible??
Simple answer, no it is not possible.
Those Android "sticks" have an HDMI port. The small processor and memory inside the stick run Android and output it through the HDMI port which is plugged into your TV.
Also, those "sticks" usually need an external power source.
Ok, thanks for your fast answer, then I go search on the internet for a good USB stick for the TV.

Hello everyone, I hope this is the right section where to post, I have scrolled down the home page until I've found this one. This is an android console based on Rockchip cpu so I guessed I'd give it a try with my problem. If not please forgive my dumbness and move the thread.
I have bought a GPD XD console that works very flawlessly beside one big huge damn problem I am not able to resolve.
One day I tried to hook it to my TV and looks great. Then I wanted to connect my 360 wired controller via USB otg. No luck. Then I tried ps3. Same. Ps4 controller? Again nothing appears on screen. Mouse, keyboards, flash drives, just nothing. Also updated it to last firmware. Tried 3 usb otg cables, 2 cheap one and one with gold plated connectors that costs more (dunno if this changes).
So I tried some of the methods I've found online to test the otg support and actually otg support is ok. What wasn't ok therefore, is that I had to download 3 xml files and putting then into permissions folder and allow them but still nothing happens. Downloaded then a vold file to put it into etc folder and again nothing works. The apps i've tried all tells me the otg support is ok but find me no otg signal
Actually usb port works for charging the device or make it visible to pc but this damn otg won't work.
I tried almost anything, . I am kinda noob at this but if usb works for charging and pc I can assume is a software issue and not an hardware one, or is it possibile the otg function depends on usb port "broken" even if usb port works for other operations?
Please I would be very glad if you could help me. Since it's passed too much time for a refund and send it back in China for a replacement will costs me a lot and takes like months if not one year as I've read around.
I guess I choose the wrong section
