Fire TV Netflix - Ouya General

Its been a while so maybe I'm out of date, but has anybody tried the Nexflix app for the Fire TV on the Ouya?
I know previously the Netflix app was barely usable, but the Fire version seems better for a remote interface.

I am curious about this as well. Have been looking for a copy of the apk to try but no luck so far. Maybe someone on the forum has a FireTV and would be willing to supply a copy of the Netflix apk. I have seen that the OUYA controller works good with the FireTV so there this could be a good alternative to what versions we have to sideload now.
Edit: It will load but just sits on the Netflix loading screen with no data traffic.

Here is firetv Netflix apk
LINK

Decided I'd take a crack at this.
I copied the following from the FTV to the same locations on the OUYA (I also changed the build and version in build.prop):
/data/app/org.chromium.content_shell_apk-1.apk (chmod 644)
created directory /data/app-lib (chmod 711)
created directory /data/app-lib/org.chromium.content_shell_apk-1 (chmod 755)
/data/app-lib/org.chromium.content_shell_apk-1/libcontent_shell_content_view.so (chmod 755)
/system/app/WebCryptoTZService.apk (chmod 644)
/system/app/WebCryptoTZService.odex (chmod 644)
/system/lib/libwebcryptotz.so (chmod 644)
/system/app/AmazonApps_420005110.apk (chmod 644)
/system/lib/liblatency.so (chmod 644)
Still just hangs on the Netflix loading screen. Logcat says "W/ActivityManager( 324): Unable to start service Intent { act=com.amazon.tz.webcrypto }: not found". LOGCAT
Ideas?

The app calls for a bunch of stuff that is not on the OUYA. At this point it won't work no matter what ROM you are running.

Try these
I have an apk with the store check removed, and also those other files installed.
But there is still an issue even with all of this. The app tries to connect to netflix through a very secure url that includes your build_id, build_time, version_release and version_incremental from the build.prop file. I have tried spoofing these, from the Fire TV build.prop, but it results in a boot loop.

It's too bad an app like market helper doesn't support firetv. Would be a safer way than changing your build.prop permanently. Were you able to get your ouya working again?

There's a thread on ouyaforum abouth this and someone says the OUYA is missing a bunch of APIs and other stuff for it to run. I think it's been looked at some people that really know what they're doing but might have thought Netflix would release an app themselves. Doesn't seem like it would take much considering how many versions they've released on android. Then again, the only Netflix version that I can watch movies on my n7 2013 tablet is with the HD version. But it doesn't have chromecast support.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong but I'm not able to install any apps on the fire stick using the tool. Command window just states,

I have turned on for ADB and installation of unknown apps on the fire stick. Also both the computer is on the the same network. Any advice?

Yes, thank you. I had to do it through the terminal to get it to work. Couldn't get it to work using the Amazon Fire TV Utility App. Also I had to be in the folder where the Android SDK was in the C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools folder that contained fastboot.
Es File Explorer Sideloading without adbfire (after installing it at the fire stick)
I have been able to install apk without using any adb shell after installing ES file explorer and settings apk. You need to open ESFE in the FSTV and in your android device , go to apps in the ESFE fast menu, select those you want to share, select send, select the device with ''ip address: AFTM'' and click send., that will promp your ESFE at the FSTV. Choose the Downloads folder to receive the files, open the location and install those apks.
Download wukong TV ROMOTE Control ( typo is there ) from the market, look and the screen shoots for some ideas and enjoy your new FSTV mouse.
Thanks to all of you for your know hows and turn the FSTV into a SUPERIOR experience.

That's a false positive... TowelRoot which is what we all use for Rooting is the only thing that gets flag as an exploit/trojan... Since TowelRoot is included in the package the FTV gets flagged incorrectly.. Unless you've downloaded from a different link then the two links in the OP's post... Then there is nothing to worry about. FTV Utility v0.36 or any of the other versions have any viruses... I am using Eset Smart Security to check...
TR.apk = TOWEL ROOT.. PLEASE DO NOT SPREAD MISINFORMATION..... FTV IS FULLY SAFE TO USE. PERIOD. (You can test this by deleting TR.apk from the apps folder & running the test again.. No False positive then.)
I apologize.
I apologize for my mistake. I did not know the app was subject to false positives. I downloaded and used it and it works great! I will do more research next time.

If you happen to have Sports Devil running on another device with XBMC on it (ipad, ect) you can download XBMC Backup on that device and perform a backup of your XBMC. I saved the file to my NAS. Then download XBMC Backup on your Fire TV and do a restore. I have done this on multiple boxes and sticks and it works great.

I go into the program, push the zip to add ons or sd card (tried both) and it just does not appear on the kodi on the fire tv. I have looked in every folder and can't find it. I started with root/sd card since that's what I saw elsewhere. Any ideas?
You can just download it on your Fire TV then unzip it and move the folder to your addons folder. People are still updating the sportsdevil addon and there are a few places that you can find the updates. The latest version is 1/15/2015. Just google it to find the download.

[Extension] APK Downloader for Amazon Appstore

Hi there,
I'm redphx, author of the original APK Downloader for Google Play.
Last year I asked if you guys want a similiar extension but for Amazon Appstore, and seemed like some of you may use it, so I decided to take some time to make it.
Today I released APK Downloader for Amazon Appstore. It's still in beta state, so I need you guys to test it. You can see how to use it by watching this demo video
Some notes:
- Only tested with amazon.com domain, Chrome 43 for Mac.
- Upon logging in, this extension will add a new Android device with Samsung S5's specs into your Appstore account. This means you can't download exclusive apps for Kindle. In later versions I'll add more devices.
- You can't download incompatible apps or paid apps, even you own it, but you still can download FAotD apps.
- All downloaded files will be saved in <DOWNLOAD_FOLDER>/appstore-apk-downloader/ folder.
[to be updated...]
Note: This extension is still in beta state. If it doesn't work for you, please don't leave bad review but contact me instead (since I can't reply to your review). Thanks.
Hope you'll find it useful
Sorry for my English.

For the German (and French and...) App Store: There is just an error in the manifest.json file.
Just change the URLs in the two "matches" arrays from
Code:
"*://*.amazon.com.de/*",
to
Code:
"*://*.amazon.de/*",
and
Code:
"*://*.amazon.com.de/gp/yourstore/home*",
to
Code:
"*://*.amazon.de/gp/yourstore/home*",
I'm trying to install it manually ("load upacked extension"), like described on the page, but Chrome doesn't allow it.
Error message:
---
Error Loading Extension:
Failed to load extension from: ~\Downloads\a
Appstore APK Downloader (extension ID "aepjngaoljfgobnongiemfiokjfkkblh") is blocked by the administrator.
---
Any hints how to install now?
Will this let you use the apks without having the amazon app store installed and logged in?
Wherever I tried manually backing them up from another phone, and using them with a different phone, they would not start, because it would call back to the store app, and tell me to install it before I could use it.
Solution
If the extension is not working (e.g. incompatible app extension). Use old portable versions of chrome.
Use this one: Google Chrome 43.0.2349.2 Portable
Hope you'll find it useful.

OK, well, you've tried just about everything that can't/won't work
How about something that will? Copy the apps onto your SD card and locate them with a file manager (nice older version of ES File Explorer attached below). Tap the apk file and it should install. You can do this with the Kindle app as well. Unless you've got GApps working and can access the Market via the SearchMarket app, side-loading like this is your only recourse (well, almost....there's also ADB).

Hi thanks for the comments. I would love to get ES file explorer on the Nook but I have no way of installing any apks so I can't see how I can side load the apps. Previously I have got the first app from the market and gone from there but there does not seem to be any apps I can use to do this. I'm guessing I'll have to investigate ADB.

So there is a bigger issue. I'm not familiar with glownooter but I did look it up. Whether you used that exact same version or not, it sounds like you have the makings of Market access, not to mention abdwireless. If you can get the Market up and running then you can download any old file manager that will install just to get going, or you can get apps directly from the PlayStore (though the pickings are somewhat limited for Android 2.1
So what's the real issue? Have you tried the GApps sign-in procedure? Did it not work? The glownooter package is supposed to include Market and then you get SearchMarket from the PlayStore once you're signed in. From there, the rest is easy.
If you don't have any apps on your NTG like Market, or YouTube, or GMail, then something is not right about your rooting process.

If you don't have any apps on your NTG like Market, or YouTube, or GMail, then something is not right about your rooting process.

Ok, patience appeared to be the key. I checked after a couple of days and the ntg had appeared as a device on the play store which it wasn't originally. I now have a file explorer and Amazon. Unfortunately Amazon won't download any books but one thing at a time. Thanks for the help, Frank.

Good! Yes, the PlayStore dance takes time for whatever reason.
If by "Amazon" you mean Kindle, then you will need to update your certificates in order to interface with the books you have stored with Amazon. See here for more info.

How to rename-to-"remove" apps.

Disable the native Browser.apk (rename Browser.apk.bak)

Hi, I'm a very new user here. How do I rename this like you suggest? I've tried doing it through the adb shell (via ADB Konnect utility) and it complained about being read-only (yes, I am root and even su'ed to be sure)
# mv Browser.apk Browser.apk.bak
failed on 'Browser.apk' - Read-only file system
Then, I installed ES File Explorer (v3.1.0.1) and tried doing it through that interface, where it complained simply "Task failed". Then, I thought "wait...I should make sure I have root permissions given to this app", found the setting, got root, tried again and got a message indicating success! Except...the file didn't actually get renamed.
I'm out of ideas and time for now. Help is greatly appreciated!

I have not used adb to rename, but I have used both Root Browser and ES File Explorer to rename apk files (never know when you might want it back....) without any problem. It should not be necessary to change the permissions on the system/app or data/app folders--or the apk files themselves. The file explorers do require root access, but it sounds like you have that covered.
I am a little distrustful of the newer ES File Explorers, as they are mucho bloated and troublesome to use on the NST/NTG sometimes. Maybe try the one attached to this post? It's what I finally settled on (but you have to go to SearchMarket first and mark ES FE as "do not autoupdate" or the older version will just be wiped out).

Thanks. Yeah, I tried that one out earlier, but I couldn't see right away how to browse around in / like I could easily do in a 3.* version of ES FE which I had tried out first. Will play around with it more now...GOT IT!
I'm also intent on disabling the Amazon Appstore now, but I can't figure out which apk(s) to rename. Should I just do a regular uninstall then?
While at it, I disabled some of the apps recommended here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933615) because I saw how damn much the phone utilities were killing my battery life!!
So I can't find the thread where I found this earlier, but here are a ton of older versions of that apk if anyone things that's useful: http[://]es-file-explorer.en.uptodown[dot]com/android/old (sorry, about the [dot] stuff, as a new user I can't post external URLs yet).

It's something like com.venezia...blah-blah...near the end of the app list in data/apps. Just uninstall it. When it was still working back in the old days it was always giving me trouble with nags of one sort or another. It's just one piece and useless so might as well uninstall.

You might be surprised about some of the "phone stuff" and power consumption. The mechanism for reporting battery use on the NST leaves something to be desired. See my post here. In any case, the actual phone.apk is responsible for android media volume control so if you ever pursue USB Audio, you'll need it. The telephony.apk, not needed.

There it is...ended up being called com.android.venezia.apk. I deleted it from the ES FE interface after failing to be able to do it through adb uninstall on my computer. Still need to figure out how to get write permissions there, apparently.a

[Guide] Convert Shield Tablet into a dedicated Android TV

What works
Leanback Launcher
Leanback App Buttons (you may still want Sideload Launcher for some things)
Leanback Recommendations
HDMI-CEC (insofar as my TV supports it YMMV)
Shield Controller, including right thumbstick as mouse
Ten Foot experiences for applications that check for it
What doesn't work
Cast Receiver
Probably other things, this is a work in progress
What's needed
ADB access - If you don't have the Android SDK you can just use Minimal ADB and Fastboot
Stock 5.0 OTA (Android 7.0 Nougat) - I don't know how necessary this is but it's what I used.
Root
TWRP or some means of flashing a zip
Open GApps arm tvstock
Step 1 - Debloat
First we need to get rid of a number of things that we won't need, or will get in the way. Use debloat.zip for this. I actually like to run this initially, as well as after Gapps are installed. The script file inside is copied in the spoiler below.
Code:
mount("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/APP", "/system");

delete_recursive("/system/vendor/app/nvidiafeedback");
delete_recursive("/system/vendor/app/nvpowerstats");
delete_recursive("/system/vendor/app/watercolor");
ui_print("Finish");
Step 2 - TV Permissions
Some apps with ten foot experiences are packaged and distributed separately from their mobile/tablet counterparts (like Twitch and ESPN). Others, package all experiences together and ask for permissions at runtime (like PBS Video and PBS Kids). The attached tv_permissions.zip file adds these, as well as android.software.picture_in_picture in order to prevent an exception when the home button is double tapped.
Step 3 - Settings activity is now broken
This is because our conflicted device is looking for the ribbon at the top of the settings activity, but it doesn't exist in the tv layout. fixes.zip patches Settings.apk to include the ribbon in the tv layout.
If you have issues with this, try running debloat and tv_permissions, boot the device, then go back to recovery and flash fixes.zip.
Step 4 - Open GApps tvstock
Big thanks to the Open GApps guys for this one. I cheated a bit here and instead of adding the packages one-by-one to be removed in the debloat script, I manually removed a number of tars from the zip file. I'll fix this, I promise but in the meantime open up the zip file and remove the following:
GApps/castreceiver-arm.tar.lz
GApps/gamepadpairing-arm.tar.lz
GApps/livechannels-arm.tar.lz
GApps/talkback-arm.tar.lz
GApps/tvmovies-arm.tar.lz
GApps/tvmusic-arm.tar.lz
GApps/tvplaygames-arm.tar.lz
Core/bugreport-all.tar.lz
Core/googlebackuptransport-all.tar.lz
Core/googlecontactssync-all.tar.lz
Core/gsfcore-all.tar.lz
Core/notouch-all.tar.lz
Core/setupwraith-all.tar.lz
...or don't if you want to experiment with Google Play Services, but that's not my cup of tea on a TV device. Early builds saw hangouts messages popping up while my wife and I were watching tv (ugh). By the way anything you do with any of this knowledge your sole responsibility.
Other Minutiae
Use the SPMC fork if you use Kodi. You will get recommendations/now playing, among other things.
Some apps may look for Play Services at runtime (I had this with Twitch, for example). If you don't want GPS/GSF I can verify that microG works for this. I used Lanchon's Haystack for signature spoofing. This required Linux and the Android SDK, but there are other ways to accomplish signature spoofing, I just didn't try them.
You'll need some means of downloading app packages without Play Store on your device. I used Raccoon and DummyDroid with the build.prop from Shield Android TV and this user agent string:
Code:
'Android-Finsky/6.5.08.D-all (versionCode=80650800,sdk=23,device=foster,hardware=foster_e,product=foster,build=NRD90M:user)'
Originally, I wanted to do this as a custom AOSP or Lineage-based rom. Some of the issues I ran into were beyond my reckoning and I decided to cut bait and use stock. Lineage does work though, you'll just be sacrificing HDMI-CEC and Granular HDMI audio volume (Steel01 got HDMI audio working though, so big props there).
One thing that was bugging me was that the Shield Controller won't wake the tablet when the tablet is on batter power, even if you have it set to leave wifi on when sleeping. The following setting will fix this:
Code:
adb shell settings put system com.nvidia.blakepairing.agoAlwaysOn 1

nice. Thanks for the feedback.
I haven't been down the play store road, but I would start by installing the tvstock gapps package without removing gsfcore (maybe others?) and don't run the debloat zip after you do so.

the tv gapps dont even have google play within the zip so we have too figure out how to install the android tv google play store on this mod we will be all set to go. i have all the system files from the stock nvidia shield tv on my pc trying to swap files to see what i can mimic. but the shield games for the nvidia shield tv works perfectly on this mod.im also trying to see if i can install the stock shield tv firmware on the shield k1. i can get the boot, recovery, system img's to flash successfully but it taking forever to boot. so it seems it dont work but i will keep trying.
So u can install stock Android shield TV games on this mod aye
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
also this mod works with the 5.1.1 OTA and the 6.0.1 OTA. and the lastest firmware but its a little buggy for me. aslo is there any way to make a uninstaller.zip for this mod. im also still having a hard time to get google play store installed
It would be so great if someone could pack this all up into a flashable ROM. That's something out of my abilities, could someone pretty please make it happen?

If this were an aosp-based build, I would do it. But since its stock, I didn't feel comfortable doing it. There are some things I should probably do to take some of the steps out and make it easier though.
@brandonlee96, since this deletes a number of stock apks, I'd need to pack them up to put them back to make an uninstaller, which I don't want to do for the same reasons as above. You can do what I do and just make a twrp backup of stock to go back to.
@brandonlee96 Here's your play store problem. TubeSky is missing when tvstock runs on a tablet device. So you need to change this line in your build.prop
Code:
ro.build.characteristics=tablet
to this
Code:
ro.build.characteristics=tv
before flashing tvstock.
After that, make sure you delete SetupWraith, because it will perpetually crash and restart on boot. I haven't tested it any further than that.

im doing that right now! i will let you know the results.
Apparently play store will auto update itself to the intended device's version. Getting the leanback (TubeSky) version to stay likely involves spoofing your device as an android tv to the play store (via build.prop and/or other means). I don't think I want to devote any more time to play store for now, when apks can be pulled from another device or via Raccoon.

What did you have in mind?
Hi, great thread! Will defenitly be trying this out in the next couple days... but i have a few questions. .
Does GFN work?
Does the system UI mimic ATV? Like the settings menu etc..?
Can we tell the battery level when unplugged?
Also, regarding build.prop edits to mimic the ShieldTV, i haven't changed build.prop to mimic anything in like 4 years haha! so I'm a little rusty, can you kindly show me what lines need changing to successfully spoof the STV?
Also, may be worth adding the Playstore is now working to the OP and credit @brandonlee96 haha
Great work guys! This looks amazing.
