[Q] D802T How do I root and install custom recovery? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guy's,
I apologize if this has already been asked, i just cannot seem to find the answer by searching.
I was able to root my G2 but when i installed a custom recovery thats when i came into a soft brick(which is now fixed).
I have the Australian D802T model and i would like to know a full proof way of rooting and installing a custom recovery (twrp preferably) please.
Links to the correct info would be great.
i just dont want to stuff it up again.
Thanks

You have to root manually, the automatic root doesn't work with our variant.
@XxZombiePikachu helped me to achieve this in the noob Q&A section he is very helpful!
Here's the method though.
Download ioroot25 ( you'll find a link to it in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705259 )
1)open cmd window inside ioroot25 folder (in an empty space in the folder hold shift and right click mouse)
2)place phone in airplane mode and enable usb debugging then plug into pc
3)type adb devices in cmd to make sure device is visible
4)after you see your device type adb reboot recovery
5)when the phone reboots into stock recovery using volume keys scroll to adb sideload update option and use power button to confirm
6)in cmd window type adb sideload kk_root.zip
7)you should see dat root on phone screen
8)enjoy root
if you follow these steps, you'll have root.

You guys are in LUCK
There is a new form of rooting that is FOOL PROOF
It is an apk you install, hit the button, wait for re-boot and PRESTO you have root.
Best thing of all is that it works on ALL G2 Variants.
So now you can root any G2 on 4.4.2 KitKat very easily. (Which wasn't possible before with ioroot for all variants)
Meaning it'll root any G2 made. Not just the 802.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Install TowelRoot from here: http://towelroot.com/
2. Then install AutoRec from here for TWRP recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715496
(AUTOREC NOT FOR D802T - I WAS TOLD THIS WILL PRICK YOUR DEVICE)
3. Then download and install SuperSU in the Play store (this method does not install SuperUser)
DONE!
Thanks . And of course I'm not responsible if this breaks the device or kills the cat. Use at your own risk

Right. Autorec doesnt work you need to flash a different kdz first. But then you wont have any of these problems.

Autorec will brick phones with d802t roms, even if you install the d802t version of it. Please update your post. As of now the only way to get a recovery is to flash another kdz with the back to stock method and then use autorec.

You won't have any problems except APN settings and getting 4G to stick. All d802's are the same. But if your dead set on having an Aussie ROM you can find it here
I used this flashtool yesterday and its so easy. Its just a point and click method.

Mate I used this method yesterday and I cannot get it to boot afterwards. What am I doing wrong?Have you actually flashed the open euro into your d802t? U say all 802s are the same. I've lost half my hair over this phone and its because the Australia version is definitely not the same it's very different and I'm almost to the stage where I will sell it and buy an international variant

Pooch, your right about the Aussie version being different. My phone had D802T software but was still a standard d802. Since that's the case, you can flash the jb D80210TA kdz which was your original rom and now you can flash your recovery the old way. I really hope this works for you now, you've been struggling with this for ages.

Is root attainable on the D800's official lollipop update?

So, I'm currently running cloudyg2 2.2, and I'm thinking about downgrading back to stock and then taking the OTA to lollipop, but I haven't heard anyone mention if it is possible to retain root through the update process, or to obtain root afterwards. It'd be great if there was a flashable zip, but I don't know if that's possible at the moment.
You can get root again. Its a script in the development forum.
If you do this can you make a twrp backup of the stock lollipop rom and upload it? (since you'll essentially be pure stock anyway).
I'll buy you a beer

No, all on-device roots are patched with Lollipop (unless you have a custom recovery, which is unobtainable on stock lollipop for the d800 as far as I know)
Use the one that requires PC. If you run into issues, pm me or reply to me on this thread.

I'd assume you could just use a kdz to go back.
So.. no recovery as of yet on official Lollipop am I right?
Keeping that in mind, is it worth the update? Is it smoother/better?
I know this can be asked in any of the other threads, but I'm asking here with respect to its worth when compared to losing Custom Recovery.

are you still downgrading bootloader, or i have to do it for aosp roms?
by the way it worked like a charm.
While bootloader is still downgraded it's not the jb - it'srather kk.
So in addition the roms will have to do a change eventually when everyone is on the new stuff.
Or for start you would have to obey the bootloader, baseband requirements in every OP (which should always be the case)

i cant update my device coz the system detects that my device has been rooted though i already unroot it in the SuperSU app as stated on the One Click root thread.
Flashed with flash tool over 20h on a phone from VDF Romania. All went well, nothing spectacular to report works and seems as snappy (or choppy) as 20H was. Needs some settling in to decide but guess there are improvements (or slowdowns) somewhere there deep in the code.

LG G2 D802 Refurbished/Frankenphone - D800

Need help please.
I've bought LG G2 d802 from local store. After searching through forum I've found it's actually D800 also through opening back cover of my phone i confirmed it was d800.
Now I need to upgrade to Lollipop and have custom rom,

I've tried IOroot to root my phone but not work for me, gives error when "Apply update from ADB"

E: Error in /tmp/update.zip

What do you have for a recovery, stock? TWRP? Do you have a working download mode or no?

Then I'd go to download mode and flash the 20c tot for the D800 since that's what you have. It's posted here on xda, a search will be necessary. It's kitkat and is the newest tot we have to my knowledge. Since you were planning on this being a D802, I'll infer that you're not an AT&T customer so OTA's are not an option. For that reason, and the fact we have nothing newer than a kk tot...once you get to stock, you'll have to root and flash twrp (for the d800) and then flash a custom rom such as Cloudy or similar to get a LP rom. So using the 20c kitkat tot makes life easier since then autorec works for twrp and stumproot also works on 20c I believe.

You don't have root right now so you can't backup your efs. You can and should back it up after flashing the tot and rooting though. I've not heard of people corrupting their efs during the tot flash but anything can happen I suppose. So yeah, the thread you linked should work good. There's also a return to stock thread for the g2 that you can reference. I can't post links well right now being mobile but if you search "LG g2 return to stock" it'll come up first in your Google search results.

Before that you could also try root using SRK tool. Google it and you should find the Xda page.

Is this the thread are you talking about ?http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
And in download link under the thread don't have 20c. http://storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda/LG+G2/Stock/AT&T/
And how do i know i am going for 32gb version files ?
Yeah that's the thread I was talking about. You can use it as a reference because it has good pic instructs. But at the end of the day, you'll be using the 20c tot from the thread you linked earlier. It is correct for your 32gb phone. All D800 tots are 32gb because all D800's are 32gb.
If it's local store, why don't you just return it and try to get a not frankenphone one if they have it? Worth a shot

Open tot with hexeditor, search for "800". First instance should be full model number followed by s/w version. Edit only that first model from D800 to D802. Save and exit. You may still need the 8974 dll to avoid cross dll error.

I assume that's because you don't have an active AT&T SIM installed. As mentioned, you'll need to get your LP by way of root, recovery and a custom rom. Are you still able to make calls in your current state? If so, you're good. The D800 works globally to my knowledge. Or at least in most regions, not sure about all.
