Time to start prepping for an OTA. Memory serves, you need stock bootloader, remove root, and xposed to be able to take the OTA. Sound right??

Based on the past OTA's....
Yes stock recovery is needed, but you don't need to remove root, xposed can be disabled, you need your bloat on there..
For more, see -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/MotoX-OTA.html
Oh, and for anyone who had 4.4.2 on their phone, then partially downgraded (i.e. flashed only parts like system.img, etc from an older rom) successfully, taking the OTA now will likely brick you.
I SBF'd to 4.4.2 I'm rooted, have Phil's recovery but no xposed. Unlocked boot loader Dev edition
Based on your post I have two options.
1. SBF the stock recovery and take the update.
2. Wait till the sbf for 4.4.3 to drop and flash that.
Please confirm or let me know if I'm wrong and if there are any other options, do share please.
Great news. I only want slightly better battery life and better camera.

I'm running the soak test right now. Smooth sailing so far. I used rsd lite to flash the sbf file and everything went fine

Will someone release this as something we can flash later or is the only way to get it via OTA? Also, if it is released on here later about how long would it take?
T-Mobile/Unlocked only right now it seems. Which is fine.
AT&T, Verizon and Sprint probably have to wait a bit.
i'm ready. got stock recovery ready to go. just gotta flash my own 4.4.2 dump back on there and i'm good to go

Find your carrier and the Android version you want the recover.img file will be in the .zip
Also, does anybody know if a custom kernel (specifically the faux kernel 007) will interfere with an OTA? If so, where can I find the stock 4.4.2 kernel?

I believe so, but I'm a noob compared to some of the other people here so I wouldn't take my word for it. What I did to update to 4.4.2 was flash the stock recovery via Recovery Tools (now Rashr) and everything worked fine.

Hello! I have TWRP installed on my device without root or custom rom/kernel. Is there a way I can just flash the stock recovery to get future OTA updates? I prefer using a method that doesnt require admin rights on my pc, because I am not using my own pc for the moment.
You can get the factory image, extract ALL the zips and when you find the recovery image do "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img".

That's the problem. Efrant says you have to use 7zip and not any other thing to extract the image, but I cant install it because I dont have admin rights on this pc.
You can use Flashify from Play Store to flash recovery images without PC.

No I mean making a backup in twrp, install a custom rom. New version of android comes out: (let's say 5.0 because updating CM for example from 4.3. to 4.3.1 isnt that hard I think), just restore the backup and flash this recovery in fastboot. (without flashify)
Then I will get the OTA?

Maybe you can try installing new kernel via adb...
Not sure if it will work though...
If the recovery is working than wipe everything there, system, data, preload, dalvik etc.. Then go into download mode and flash a official Samsung rom, some not branded 4.1.2, btu i think is the best, after that go into recovery again wipe data and cache, and than try to reboot. If that doesn't work try flashing only kernel via adb.

If you can get it in DOWNLOAD mode. You should be able to flash a stock rom with ODIN. Then re-root, flash Custom ROM, etc.,etc.
That's the only way I have repaired other peoples botched updates and stuff. :good:
The Note 2 screen needs more power than SG3 screen, so the kernel you mistakenly flashed could have damaged the hardware itself.
Do as fbarcenas says. If it doesn't work, I think you're gonna have to replace the screen unit. Try everything else first, of course, and good luck !

If you have flashed a stock rom, that will have replaced all files, including the kernel, therefore if it's still not working something has caused hardware damage (the only option after flashing stock and wiping everything.

Since T-Mobile devices can be bootloader unlocked, you could just unlock your bootloader, and root via TWRP and SuperSU. So why wouldn't you, other than not wanting to void your warranty?

Exactly not voiding the warranty. I just got the phone in December and I love it. But frankly I'm concerned of voiding the warranty so quickly. I can see the foam around the front camera is already sliding a bit and potentially could impact the camera later on if it does. But maybe it never will. I don't want to send it back in just for that when it works great you know.

And of course the OTA update is just an updater that modifies only certain parts/pieces. The SBF is the full rom.
