I've know for about 12 hours now....Looks like Dhacker's had it since it was released on Thursday. Honestly, I'm more anxious in what him and the rest of our developers will do over the upcoming Atrix HD KK OTA.

Sorry the stupid question but is it for Razr HD xt925, xt926 or both?

How about fixing that annoying popping noise for some of us HD (XT926) users? That would be awesome. To be able to flash a custom ROM with that fixed would be awesome.
I have no intentions of trading in my HD for another one since mine has an unlocked bootloader. No way in Hades will I trade that in.

Not that it matters, all the Moto Msm8960 phones are just rebranded RAZR HD's with slightly different hardware configurations.
I'm actually surprised Motorola released the sources as fast as they did. I figured they'd have waited until KK was available for more of us before releasing the kernel source.

My Bravo running ICS deals with that.....probably just a side effect of running a custom rom on a Motorola phone.
But yeah, given the phones available now, I'd rather fix a broke Moto Msm8960 than upgrade to something else. I'm happy enough with dual core and a gig of ram until I see something that I both like and can afford.

I'm not sure that is possible to find a phone with so great battery life, kevlar case, 720p, design, durability, sd card support, hdmi... Of course unlocked bl is precious bonus. Only more memory would be nice in some cases.

On the Motorola forums, I opened up a topic on the popping noise and someone replied last week that stated they spoke with a Motorola rep and there is another "update" coming out to fix issues that people found, including issues with text messages that cropped up after the upgrade.
Sad, I reported this popping noise during the soak test and they still released it as is. Well, let's hope this fixes it.

Hopefully they will release update, especially if bug is in binaries.

Makes ya wonder what the point of soak tests are for if they don't actually do anything about the bugs the testers are reporting.
Also makes me glad that I don't have the flagship 8960 (the xt926) either. By the time they get around to updating my mb886 all this crap will likely be resolved or, more than likely, I'll already be running a custom rom thanks to dhacker and won't really care the my Moto KK OTA was released.

We still need moto or qualcomm for binaries.
Sent from my Razr Maxx HD

I'd imagine that some of the 926 and 907 binaries (as in libraries, /system/bin, etc) might work with the other phones, but yeah, I can see needing the updated partitions and whatnot....figured as much in the back of my mind.
Makes me wonder about the Q since it's still listed as future plan coming soon. If it doesn't get Moto KK, will the 3.4 kernel need to be modified to use JB libs for them or all of us...or will it be possible to modify the ramdisk to load alternate KK parititons stored on /system or /boot? I'm not sure how some of those other partitions work and if alternate ones could be used...that's a little different than swapping the external sd and /data around.

Will there be Kit Kat ROMs for Razr HD

Maybe a bit early but I am sure others must wonder the same thing:
We have android 4.3 based roms (despite 4.3 has not been released for our phone). - Personally I am super appreciative of this and think this demonstrate the coolness of android community development!
Now with Kit Kat released and looking super intersting (in particular the promise of a lower memory foot-print, and other highly valuable core functions) the obvious question is: Will there also be development for Kit Kat based ROMs for our phone? E.g. a CM base that others can build upon as is the case now with 4.3.
Having owned my razr HD +1 year now I still think it is a great phone! The bundled (stock) software is not perfect but the hardware (build quality + battery in particular) is super nice. Flashed with a well build custom ROM I really like my phone, even compared to friends newer models (samsung etc.).
I'll go out on a limb and say yes. Motorola just announced that the RAZR HD Dev edition will be receiving 4.4 KitKat in the near future.

Excellent!
Link to that quote?
Sent from my XT926 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Most likely from Motorola's OS Upgrade website that tells you their update plans for their devices at motorola.com/os, but that got changed to "This device is currently running Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean)
Future plan coming soon."
Most definitely it was a typo.
Here's the link
the difference between the dev edition and the global razr hd is just the bootloader. (correct me if i'm wrong here)
so the phones with unlocked bootloader could be able to install 4.4 from dev edition razr hd which would be awesome !
According to that link, the RAZR HD, will NOT have a kit kat update. Bummer, if that the case that would be enough reason for me to never buy another Motorola Phone, if not 4.4 at least we deserve a 4.3 official update. sigh.
I'm from Brazil and it is confirmed, the RAZR HD (XT925) will receive the KitKat 4.4 update, soon. There is the chat:

sorry, MORNING and THANK YOU. i was hurry. XD
I hope is true, now that Kitkat is officially out, we'll get more accurate info. That info makes me happy too
Edit.- Ok i tried the same chat trick, trough motorola México, and the response is that engineers are testing to determine whether the Razr HD would get and update or not. In this update I don't think it would depend on carrier, I mean it would at the point to whether I get it (X carrier) and my cousin don't (Y Carrier) well, I guess will have to wait. After all the hype google put into it and motorola now being a google company, one would think they will be more open about updates and such.

Its cool that you do some research on this. Thanks. Hopefully we end up getting Kit Kat!
As for the engineering testing: Somehow I think it would be a little for embarresing for Motorola if their 'about 1 year old product' would turn out "obsolete" for a upgrade that is supposed to run on only 512mb phones etc.
It may be factor that the XT925/XT926/XT905/XT907 may not get update as they are not Motorola X8 Mobile Computing System phones which Moto X, Droid HD, Droid Maxx and Droid mini are.

Agreed. But I still think it smells mostly like a 'business decision'.
Point being: If they don't update to 4.4. some people may be tempted to buy a new phone to get the newest (eg. a nexus 5 or motorola) = Cash win for Google (and maybe Motorola also).
On the other hand: Customers (myself included) will get a little pissed if they almost completely neglect updating their fairly recent top-line products (Razr HD). = Next time many will be looking elsewhere when out shopping a new phone to manufacturs that don't ditch support quite as quickly.
I like motorola's phone, but I for one will be thinking hard about buying one again if they ditch this upgrade. I don't they will though! I am optimistic and think we will get Kit Kat.
I'm up for renewal late this month, I can get a new Razr HD for free + a Razr D3(maybe for my kid) But, if in this time frame, we don't get the official word about update, not necessarily the update itself, but at least the promise of the update, I will move to another brand. The nexus 5 price seems very appealing.
4.4
Pay attention to the PA forums. there a guy CJ360 who has been putting Paranoid out with 4.3 daily driver. i assume he would jump on this and get us 4.4 goodness
No kitkat =no more Motorola

Exactly the same hollow phrases were spoken over and over again one year ago.
Atrix users had been told "stay tuned for our upgrade plans" over months (round January 2012 it appeared that Atrix might eventually get ICS-Update).
Until november, when it finally changed to "Atrix will remain on Gingerbread".
SO: Don't expect too much. Be happy with what you have, the RazrHD (stock or CM10.X) already has a fine pool of roms to chose from and it is a great device - even with "only" Android 4.1.
Very nice Moto, don't give update to older model, instead push some fix for bootloader unlocking. dirty dirty...
Not that it is any excuse on Motorola behalf at all! But I think, what they don't tell us is that they are fairly dependent on Qualcomm (making drivers for the chipset, while they want to sell their new chipsets) + maybe the carriers (Verizon). I think Both Qualcomm and Verizon make big big bucks even if they have less contact with customers and are less know in generally. As for qualcomm they may becomming a bit like Intel that has much power even if they just "supply" to other manufactures.
If they (Motorola) don't deliver. We (the costumers) should keep complaining. Threating to take our business elsewhere rather than just buy a new "update" phone and keep the system alive with with manufactures(+ their suppliers) having no incentive to support their products.
here are some news:
these screenshots are from the motorola site,
this one was posted in this forum
and this one I did today
let's speculate for the next months, until we do NOT get any update

Moto formally updates support page: Razr HD, Maxx HD and M to get Kit Kat

Moto updated their support page today.
VZW Razr HD, Maxx HD and M (reg and developer) to formally get Kit Kat. No dates of course.
Still, good news!

So it's going to go from 4.1.2 straight to 4.4?
Either way, it's about damn time they announced something.
That's great news, not lets hope it's January, seeing that CM is already functioning on the XT925 I don't see it as a great problem to have an official 4.4 from motorola, now that they are releasing vanilla flavors on the Moto X and now with the G.
Tneniesa intention
I wonder, would they update the kernel(to 3.4) also in these updates?
Exactly

My question is exactly that. Will we go directly to 4.4 or will we have to wait for 4.2, then 4.3 until we finally arrive at 4.4 when 5.0 or even 5.1 will already be out...

Does anyone know if this have any influence on the development of custom Roms? Is it possible to utilise Motorola's code or are custom roms produced with no or little basis in their material? Probably an amateur question, but I lack fundamental knowledge of this.
Well isn't this a pleasant surprise?!?. I'm sure it's too much to ask for it to be a Christmas present from Moto Kringle. But one can always hope :fingers-crossed:

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus with the TI Omap 4460 is not getting the update no way a razr with the ti 4430 will. (only real diff is 1.5 vs 1.2 clock speed) Texas instruments is no longer supporting their chips and offers no help. They have left the mobile chip industry for good from the report I have read. I am not sure the extent of what is needed by the chip manufacturer but for the OG razr without some major programming fanatics with hundreds of free hours the best the x912 and x910 will ever get is 4.1.2 from oem or 4.3 from devs.

Do you think that the GPE will get the update to android l a lot faster then the stock ones? Considering the stock roms are nearly pure android, do you think there will be a noticeable difference?
How many days do you think the GPE will save compared to the stock one?
How many days was it in the past? Or how many days is it *usually* for motorola devices or even other devices for that matter?

I really don't know man. Pure logic says that GPE will get it faster because you will not depend on the carrier to release it, just Google. So once they push the button all the GPE devices will get it....
In another note, I feel that the GPE runs much MUCH fluid than the non-GPE.

Yes I know, but I was refering to the carrier...so for example if you have Verizon, you have to wait until Verizon releases the update, not just Google and then Motorola. In the GPE, since it is unlocked you dont have to wait for any carrier to release it, so you are avoiding one step, hence I think is faster....

Great news, I had a really bad experience with my previous phone (Desire X) and updates. It got 4.1.2 3 months after release, but never saw another update after that from HTC. I think smartphones should be able to get updates from the OEM's for at least 2 years.
Most ironic fact was that I paid $300 for the Desire X, and $199 for the Moto G. Go figure...
Nope it hasn't...

Yup, paid 200€ for the moto G (in Romania, Motorola has no power here), and almost 300€ for the galaxy s3 mini... Galaxy s3 mini got the 4.1.2 update!!! From 4.1.1... And moto G is on a freaking list by Google, considered equal for updates as the nexus 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 and the HTC one M8...
Not to mention my sister got the Moto E, the 150€ phone (here) with better support than the galaxy s5, which probably won't get lollipop this year, or even this winter... 600€ device, doesn't get software updates because Samsung is probably still stuck with their old TV update policy, which doesn't exist.
Whoop Whoop. such good news. Just got my Moto G GPE!
And soon Lollipop for GPE

Hopefully someone can port one of the newer roms to the m9 in the time being.
Nice to see the update coming in time (90d time frame after vanilla Android release). But one thing makes me muse: Why were the previous updates released on most carrier versions simultanously? And will this happen with this update again?
I've been with HTC for a long time and except for the M7, I only owned unlocked devices. I noticed that the unlocked versions recieved their updates in time while it took the carriers weeks if not months to release their adopted updates. It annoyed me as hell while the M7 was my daily driver, so I returned to unlocked versions with my current M9.
Now I see that the updates are released on most carrier versions simultanously. This would mean that either the carriers have vanilla ROMs (unlikely) or HTC is holding back the unlocked versions in favor of the carrier versions not being delayed. The latter would really be annoying.
Any thoughts on this?

I believe unlocked ota push directly from HTC where carrier versions have to get approved by att,Verizon etc prior to release which is a huge pain in the ass and slows the whole release down

Lucky enough for me my provider does no lock what so ever in devices.
So all my HTCs (6 so far) although I take them in great price (after a little blackmail that I will opt for another provider) from my provider are totally unlocked.
android M with no material design in sight
im getting tired of sense the way it is currently
Those in the US shouldn't get their hopes too high. With carrier approvals being what they are we won't see this before February 2016. Some ROMs will have it sooner but often times things like WiFi calling and VoLTE won't work until the carrier version comes out...

Yeah it's too bad. Best hardware and best software made the best device
The best part is if they release source for their previous Android version.

Beginning end, assuming end is December with it being the last month and the beginning of that would be 1st of december which brings it into line of 2 months after launch.. Which is the usual time frame for the spread of android operating systems.
I wish I stole my HTC M9.

I read it to mean that the rollout of firmware for the different M9 variants will start at the end of 2015. i.e. "At the end of 2015, HTC will start to roll out Marshmallow upgrades for the M9 phones." The more the carriers get involved so they can install their branded crapware (Verizon, can you hear me now?), the longer it will take, so I'd expect the unlocked/developer ones to come first.
(FYI, Jan 1 2015 was the "beginning of the end" of 2015 )
Im just hoping the m9 6.0 update improves battery life and overheating. Getting close to returning mine within my 14 days. The biggest feature i look forward to is the merging of the micro sd card as internal storage.
If that one a9 had a larger battery id be all over it.
I don't think merging of micro sd card as internal will be supported officially, micro sd cards are not as fast as internal... I used my sd card for large apps though... =)

Will the sense became like the sense on the a9? I find it too much "google"

did they end up pushing marshmallow or is it still June? Not sure if I should get this phone, or a LG G Stylo or Escape

Marshmallow will start rolling out around the end of May/beginning of June.
But it's your choice. If you are considering the 5.5" variant, then it's the best out of the three.
Same if you are considering the 4.7" variant. It is still better than the G Stylo and Escape.

Idols are pretty solid phones for the price, it's gonna be kinda hard to beat them. Don't let the android version stop you, marshmallow or not they are great.
I personally have had really bad experiences with cheap lg phones, you'd be lucky if you get what you pay for.
If you do go for an lg other then a g3/4 I'd really suggest looking up multiple reviews first.

I've been getting this on my 6045I ever since I got it 2 weeks ago. Is Android M marshmallow? And does anyone recamend updating to "5.0.2-010 01" if I want root? Is it buggy?

I have the LG Stylo from T-Mobile, and the idol international version on cricket, but using AT&T Apn with great success. In my opinion, the Stylo is a much more solid device, with removable battery, incredible memory management, and already has marshmallow. The idol can't be beat for music though, and hopefully marshmallow will fix high all the time memory usage. Just don't get the cricket version of either of these, as the hardware and software are lesser. I happily use both, and have Google voice for handling the number integration. Have the idol on cricket's inexpensive plan, and it comes in handy when I travel to have AT&T service [emoji51]

I have had this phone through Cricket since Nov. 2015, and i loved it until the patch came through. I have now had to have it replaced twice because it will turn off on its own, when i try and use Google play music it locks the phone screen immediately. I think all of the bugs are A) due to Crickets bloat wear or B) due to the bugginess of 5.0.2. Has anyone else experience any flaws and glitches? I LOVED this phone up until this point and now i want to throw it at a wall, or move back to the ZTE Max Plus (2) since it just dropped.
