Sorry, How to have this kind of notification bar on my phone?
I google it and found a lot I dont understand....
Is there any simple mod to do this?
Thx a lot XX
He is using ADW Launcher, which supports the ability to hide your status-bar when on the home-screen.
He has hidden it, used a wallpaper with the rainbow thing at the top and used a Minimalistic Text widget to get the text at the top where the status-bar should be.
I have an idea ,just an idea:
I walk through the page of android theme, and I m fascinated by this kind of notification bar,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1243590
http://mycolorscreen.com/2011/06/18/productivity/
With fancy design, icons, battery state, signal..... wtever..
I m using Insertcoin , is a great rom right away, with gorgeous turn-on/off animation....united with sense 2.1+3.0, especially cater for those who love sense (Me as well)
All I want to do is to amend the apk related to the notification bar (may be rosie.....)
I m not familiar with the use of kitchen
I bring this idea waiting some devs to make it true...
See if anyone is interested with this ~ ty

I am not a developer, but I am highly skilled in common sense, and I really don't think it is as easy as replacing the SystemUI.apk.
InsertCoin is a Sense ROM, which runs differently to an AOSP ROM such as the CycaogenMod that this theme was created for.
But, like I said, I'm not a developer, so you'll have to wait for one to stumble across this thread if you want to know if it is possible to make this theme for Sense ROMs.
So I sincere wish someone could make this happen
Any recommendations where the black UI of android gets replaced by something that could be potentially more appealing? Something with the google play colors or any theme that matches or uses the google apps colors?

Gem flat and simplex were my two favorite themes for theme chooser when I was using CM roms. There are threads for both here in xda, take a look and see if you like. You can use them even on stock with hk theme manager xposed module, I think.

I was also looking for similar themes and have found the following:
*Mianogen.
*iOS 7.
*Circle.
*Flat (by rayford85).
*MIUI v5 (There are three: 1- orange on white. 2- orange on black. 3- holo blue on black).
Edit:*Flow (is also a great theme).
And I agree with meatboy, Gem Flat and Simplex (both red and blue) are one of the best themes out there.
I just don't like the new "material" design. It looks ugly to me but I'd like the new power and speed of Trusted Face and other features so how can I modify it to look like kitkat?
Is there a icon pack currently available?

Sorry phrased that wrong I know an icon pack won't change the theme. I don't think anyone even has added the necessary theming engine yet but I meant like the dialer icon is very ugly. What would be your recommended way to change it apart from editing the actual package?
I really prefer Holo too.........not sure we will be able to change it in future :/ the navbar buttons are super ugly too
I just want the good old dark background... But I'm taking anything even pure black, over annoying white

Depending on what rom your on you can try cm12 and just put on a kitkat theme.

Good luck
Disappointed in Android design
I also much prefer the KitKat "holo" look. Lollipop looks too light and pastel and IOS7-ish.
I don't know anything about Android but have been involved in software development for many years. It sounds like the appearance of Android is "hard coded". Is this correct? I really expected the concept of skins that separated form from function.
Actually the theme is not hardcoded, there are ways to edit a theme but that differs from app to app so its painstaking recompiling all the system packages and signing them to work with *your device name here*
If you messed up framework you're f&$%'d

Any further info on this?
I relly want to dig old thing, because maybe someone know solution. My favourite android look was on andro 4.3. Also i like old GB look.
“Material design” is painfully disgusting ;(
I had a Moto X Pure and was running a rooted version of the stock ROM..... I installed Layer's manager and the layer of my choice (Dark Stock) and it worked.
I tried this with my Axon 7, the Layers manager installed fine and ran, but I couldn't find any of my installed themes to apply? Is there a setting that needs changed in a ROM in order to be able to change the theme, or are we just not there yet?

First of all, Layers has been deprecated and Substratum has taken it's place. Although it does have legacy support for Layers still. And secondarily, (maybe a silly question, but I'm just going on the way you've worded your question) did you download the theme(s) you want to try from the play store? And then there's also a good chance, even though android now has (some) native support for RRO themeing, that some things like the ui and dialer etc will not themes as the commits are not there from ZTE.

I seen there was a new name with "Layer's" being secondary in some of the descriptions? A lot can change in a month, because I was using "Layer's" just last month on my Moto X Pure and had no idea it was going away.
Yes, I did download the theme I wanted from the PlayStore (Dark Stock).
I may try it again since I've done a few more things to it....And I realize that not everything is "theme-able", mainly looking for just a few things, like the notification cards in the pull down and my settings menu.
But the fact I was still using the Layers Manager was probably the issue. I just installed the Substratum manager and it worked, at least for the notification cards. The settings menu wasn't completely themed, so I un-theme'd it.
This is all I really wanted! My PlayStore is also themed, the rest is left alone.

Sweet. So it didn't theme settings either? Nice to see that this much is indeed working. Are you familiar with TBO and their themed apps etc?

The settings *DID theme, but they looked like cards with a white background and you could see around the edges and the gaps between "groups". It didn't look very good, so I un-themed the settings.
Phone didn't theme (didn't expect it to)
Contacts didn't theme (didn't expect it to)
Playstore did theme
Calculator did theme
I don't use Gmail, but I'm sure it would have
Nova did theme, but I've already got the search bar colored the way I want it, so I un-themed it too
I normally don't theme the calendar or Google Photos, because I've had issues with the apps after they update - so I leave them alone.
No, not familiar with TBO? Is that "Total Black Out" or "Team Black Out"? If so, I have seen those.....But I like the more dark gray, or dark gray-blue themes as opposed to total black.

Cool. Yes, that's Team Black Out. Yeah, I like the same color elements. Would you be willing to install the theme able Google Dialer and Google Contacts and see if they worked?
Here is the link and you can find them and other theme able apps in here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/apps-themeable-hangouts-layers-cmte-t3113192

Will the Themeable google Dialer/Contacts that's in the PureNexus thread work? Or do you have a link you could give me? You can PM me it if you prefer?
[EDIT] I found them in the TBO thread

So....The ones from the PureNexus thread would reboot my phone every time I tried to open it. The ones from the TBO thread work just fine and were able to be themed as well. I much prefer the Google dialer, so I appreciate the lead on this!

That's great news. I'm thinking maybe with that, Nova Launcher and TBO theme able apps for Google I may just be able to live with the factory ui for a while until we can get something more aosp once I get mine. But this is nice to have more of an aosp flavor for now. BTW, have you tried installing Xposed for other personalized modification?

I normally don't do Xposed with a custom ROM, but Xposed is great at modding a stock ROM....So, yes I installed Xposed for just a couple small things (using GravityBox):
1) Round battery icon
2) Center clock
3) More music volume steps (30)
I also used emoji switcher and have "Emoji One" emoji's.

Oh man, this is pretty much all I need to get me by until some actual development starts up. That is if we ever get sources or AOSP type ports. Only thing I worry about with ports is full functionality of all the features this phone has and oft times battery life can take a hit due to lack of full optimization. Thank you.

From looking at the Substratum page, it seems like it has two modes -- one with root and one without. Is that accurate? It'd be nice to have themeability while still staying stock.

When you say we have root, are you referring to this method?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/wip-axon-7-root-bootloader-unlokced-t3441204
From what it looked like there it was still untested on US model.

No, I have my bootloader unlocked.
I'm new to Sony devices and was looking to get a dark theme set up on my new X Compact. After digging around I'm pretty confused abut the whole thing and thought I'd ask for some help here.
I'm looking for white text on a black background. I think I'm doing something wrong here, because I can't seem to find a white on black theme in the native Xperia themes, but I can find one for Substratum. This seems odd because my understanding was that Substratum was a port of Sony's Overlay Manager Service.
In any event, from my understanding I've got 2 options:
1) Install OmniROM and Substratum
2) Install CM13 and use the built in theme engine
I'm a bit reluctant to install CM13 as it's still in alpha, which leaves me with the OmniROM solution. Is this accurate? (I should note, that it's great to see so much development for the X Compact so soon after launch!)
Thanks so much for any help.
I am not sure what you mean when you say you can't find a theme with white text on black background. Unless you mean that you want the theme to be always black, even in the settings and similar apps. That isn't possible, because since Kitkat Android (at least for Xperia) has two modes: bright theme and dark theme. The settings are always bright. I tried myself to invert the bright theme making it dark, but far too many things get unreadable because they aren't 100% customisable.
Still if you want to give a try with a a dark theme you may want to try this one. It's free (and don;t worry, the link doesn't have any ad. It's from Google shortner): https://goo.gl/PHyqRH
If you don't like it you can simply uninstall it and try another one. There are tons of free black themes. personally I'll never go as far as unlocking the bootloader and install a custom ROM just to have some different themes. Also because apparently most of the support for custom ROMs is ending. Cyanogenmod closed, for example. It has been taken over by someone else, but it won't probably be the same thing.
Thanks so much for your help with this. The monochrome theme you directed me to has some dark elements for sure, but I was looking for a completely black background. To be honest, I've been a bit surprised at how much I'm bothered by the white backdrop, especially at night. I've been using a dark CM theme on another phone for years, and didn't really think that a small change like this would make such a difference to me.
I think you understand what I'm looking for, but just to confirm here are some links to the play store:
Black Background using CM13: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blissroms.moelle.ddoverhauled
Black Background using Substratum: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftblack.layers
Nope. As I wrote the stock Android for Xperia doesn't support the dark panels on the bright themes. Or better, it's possible to put dark backgrounds in a bright theme, but after that far too many elements get unreadable. Dark text for starting, which can't be changed. The clock and SMS apps get quite messy for example.
The CM ROMs have its own customisation engine, different from the one Sony has implemented for the Xperia phones (and thus as far as I know their themes are not compatible). The same I believe applies to SubStratum, which I don't know. But I suppose you need root to install it. And also it may conflict with the Xperia customisation.
Still there are plenty of great themes that change the backgrounds to different colours or even images. They won't be totally dark, but they are a relief from the obnoxious pure white. Blue themes are usually the best for that purpose. Also the Golden themes are quite popular at the moment. This (still free) at least removes the white, replacing it with gold color: https://goo.gl/WK9yGm
