Has anyone found a method to root the 4.4.2 kitkat OTA yet? If so a link would be great! Thanks in advance!

I also am desperate for someone much better at this than I to find a method. I hate the OTA! If we can't root, has anyone figured out how to remove the odin write protection so we can revert to the leak?
I'm stuck at this point waiting for a root method too. Does anyone know if Kingo will eventually add kitkat ? Have they been slowly upgrading the tool so far?

Chances are it will be a long while before we get any sort of root. I willingly took NC4 and have no regrets. Maybe one day we will get an unlock.

Perhaps, but maybe it will bring more awareness to it. I also installed the update without doing research to see if it could be rooted after, and now am sorely disappointed I cannot load cyanogenmod on it.
I've been searching all over and it still doesn't look like there's a solution for it. Hopefully somebody more experienced comes along, reads this, and figures out a solution for the rest of us mere mortals
Refer to the sticky that says do not OTA update.

Refer to my utter lack of time travel capabilities, else I'd have flashed NC2 in the first place and not be in this pickle. (EDIT--should read "reading" capabilities, not "travel"!)

Not sure on the counter or even if it was tripped by rooting to be honest. In recovery you should be able to see the counter. At least I was able to on my Skyrocket. If my memory serves me right, the counter only increases when flashing things via odin, but someone more knowledgable than me could give better insight. That's how it was on the gs2 Skyrocket anyway. You are returning to ATT with a fully functional device and not Samsung for a repair of some kind, so it should be irrelevant for them. I doubt anyone working there even knows what the counter is never mind how to check it *good*

The official firmware you will be flashing won't increase it or shouldn't anyway. Just remembered mine on the rocket only increased once because the stock image I flashed back to had been modified in some particular way. The stock images on sammi mobile and those extracted from kies for your use should not trip it

Not ignorant at all. If you would have read the "root" and the "return to stock" posts you would have found the answers and maybe learned a little more along the way. Getting pissed off at others because you didn't take the time needed to find the answer is just sad. And claiming you read a post (when you obviously didn't or you would have found the answer) is sadder. I'm not trying to bust your balls here, but you are wrong for not searching for the answer in the first place and then wrong again for acting pissy when someone took the time to tell you what you needed to do to find the answer. Good luck if you don't learn anything from this and decide to keep doing things to your phone, because you are going to need it.

I am wondering that same thing. I have 4.3 now rooted and getting rid of root seems unthinkable. The Note 3 is so powerful when properly setup, however the only way to set it up is having root functionality. I hope something comes soon because the build I keep seeing for N900AUCUMJ5 is buggy from what I read thus far. I can not wait for a stable root.

I am running my Nexus 7 2013 Wifi Only w/4.4.2 unlocked and rooted thanks to Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit and was wondering 2 things:
1. With the new updates rumored to soon be coming to our devices, I'd like to block any updates to 4.4.3 until I can find a way to keep root and unlock (probably will wait for Wug to update his toolkit). Is there a way to block my N7 from receiving updates until I'm ready for them?
2. Is there a way to receive the 4.4.3 update when it rolls out and keep my N7 rooted & unlocked?
Thanks.
Wow, I thought someone here would have the answer to block OTAs at least. But hey, I totally appreciate the lack of "I don't know" posts that plague other boards.

Hi, v1ncent...
First off, your question properly belongs on the Nexus 7(2013) forum... and not this one.
Secondly, your sense of entitlement to an immediate fix to your problem is likely to irk and irritate many who may try to help you. Your original posted question is less then 24 hours old. Give people a chance!
Thirdly, did it occur to you, that the reason for a lack of a response with regard to blocking OTA's is because it might not have a solution... or that people might not have one.
Often, when I look at a posters problem, and I think "How can I help this guy?; What do I know that might assist him/her?"... and I'll turn the problem over and over in my head... looking at it from every angle... and hopefully I'll come up with something; it might not be much, but at least it's something.
But if I have nothing, then I post nothing.
Anyhow... I actually had a response prepared, which I was just about to post, just before you posted your sarcasm infused post.
Here it is (...and for what it's worth)...

Hi, v1ncent...
With regard to blocking OTA updates... I have read about an app called FOTAKILL, which apparently blocks OTA's, but I've never used it myself... and so can't really comment on it. . Do a bit of Googling around about it.
With regard to your second point... (and I'm extrapolating here, from my knowledge of how the older Nexus 7 works)... an OTA update will cause your device to become unrooted, and you'll also loose any Custom Recovery (CWM/TWRP) you have installed... but your Nexus 7's bootloader will remain unlocked... unless you explicitly relock it yourself, usually with the fastboot oem lock command.
So, yeah, you'll have to re-root after the OTA.
Hope this helps.
Rgrds,
Ged.
GedBlake: thank you for your reply, it's much appreciated! I will check on FOTAKILL. From what I have read after asking my question here is that there is some talk that paying for SuperSU to keep root may work in regards to keeping root from 4.4.2 to 4.4.3. I will try to delay updating if I can, but if I can't I think someone will come up with a simple procedure to root 4.4.3 after updating.
I love xda; the people here are FANTASTIC in coming up with new approaches to all manner of needs, so much so this is one of the few times I ever had the need to ask a ?, usually after searching I always find an answer.
Secondly, in regards to the first part of your reply - wow you couldn't have possibly misread my post more. I'm glad despite doing so you were nice and helpful in the second half. Everyone has a bad day, no worries man. I was actually glad that here, despite many other places when people have no solution they don't reply. I meant every word of my post, no hidden meanings. Yeah, it's called Survival Mode...
...in SuperSU Pro (paid-for version) settings, there's a checkbox option to enable Survival Mode... and when ticked, this message appears...
SuperSU will actively attempt to keep superuser access, even across OTA updates
Don't know how well this feature works... I just re-root via TWRP after an OTA... so I've never had cause to use it.

I apologize if this has come up before but i can't seem to find a definitive thread on rooting NI2 at xda-developers. I search in this forum for "NI2 root" and all the topics were not specifically related to rooting from stock NI2.
I've browsed and searched a bit and was going to root my NE9 this evening, however today i accidentally pressed the wrong button (upgrade now, instead of upgrade later) and upgraded to NI2. I found this method for rooting NI2 here
http://techbeasts.com/2014/09/25/ho...-on-android-4-4-4-kit-kat-official-firmware/#
Is this method valid? I have never rooted this device before and have all my apps and layout the way i like it. Can i root the NI2 without flashing/resetting the device?
Thanks in advance.

If you google you wil come to cf auto root. But in the explanation it says its only for 4.3 or 4.4 bootloader. If you are on 5.0 bootloader its confusing.
So the question is still legit....you dont wanna brick your phone...or do something else wrong.
So google is not always the answer....experience from other users is more important..thats what xda is all about.
So please...think again before posting rubbish. Contribute in the way of helping. If you know how to do it....share.
