[Q] Is LG G2 good? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently own a Samsung Galaxy S4. I'm thinking of bumping it up for a LG G2 32 GB D802 International Edition or a Google Nexus 5 32 GB. Which one do you think I should get? Please tell me about the G2's camera too. I went into one store to try it and it was working flawlessly but in another store, camera app was lagging so much that I couldn't even take a decent picture. Please confirm if there's an issue with the camera.

Not an issue for me and I haven't seen anything about the forums.

The g2 camera is great especially if you want to Root it and install better even. However th g3 was just announced so I'd look into that

I think this is the most posted comparison question ever ... ever ...
This thread exists like 200 times here already...
And bumping S4 with G2 , when there is G3 out? Thats not a real bump...
I would understand if you had S2, or maybe even S3, but this is a small bump for big hassle to G2...
Either go with G3 or wait for something better?

I wanted to root my device without loosing warranty that's why I wanted to ditch the S4. Anyways, I finally bought G2 32gb variant!

Since when do you not loose you're warranty after rooting your Lg G2?
Why should it be any different compared to a Samsung Galaxy S4?

The diffence is following:
root s4 = knox warranty bit in bootloader will be setted to 0x1 and you cant set it to 0x0 so they can always proof that you rooted....
root g2 = i dont know on g2 of such security where you can proof that phone was rooted
If i get tomorow the chance to get a brand new g2 32gb for 380€ then i am soon a g2 user too cause i cant wait for OnePlus One invite... waited 1month now.... and after saw the g3 announcement there is no huge difference to g2 so why pay 200bucks more
Cheers

Thank you xenix96 for answering that. That's exactly what my reply would have been. Samsung has too many security mechanisms and LG doesn't. So, that's one of the reasons I wanted to switch.

LG G2 is awesome.
Easy to mod, hack, Xposed. This is the first phone I've EVER used where the Stock Rom experience is amazing. Since the Nexus One, I've always ran CM or AOKP. But now I just Root and run Xposed for a few Center Clock, Icon, Battery tweaks.
Honestly out of the S5, M8, and Z2, the G2 is a perfect combination of screen, physical size, battery, features.
That said, the G3 will be out soon that has a slightly bumped up CPU (same CPU just revised [800vs801]) and a slightly larger screen (5.5 vs 5.2) and a higher resolution. Sounds nice on paper but the larger screen and increased resolution and slightly overclocked CPU will only dampen battery life, which is where the G2 is king of the world.
The G2 with a 1080 screen and a pixel DPI of 480, the screen is just fine. I'd rather have the additional battery life.

You sir, have just convinced me to upgrade my s3 to the G2. Thanks!

The g2 I can honestly say is awesome I got mine 2 weeks ago and I came from the z1s I love this compared to z1s the screen feel in the hand and speed the camera is also awesome and for the price you can't go wrong I love the back buttons. I didn't like the s5 the m8 was to tall and camera was poor to me the z2 well let's just say I had the z1s and didn't like all the bezzles nor the fact there still on 4.3 on the z1s. Go for the g2 it's awesome

Never be so happy as b4 when I ditched my Samsung Galaxy note 1 for LG G2 LS980 2 week ago. No more lagging and love the battery life and the built in FAST Charging(Not from the kernel). Simply love it!

Correction: LG G2 has 423 dpi.
Anyways, I totally agree, anything beyond 1080p is not required. Even the difference between 720p and 1080p isn't noticeable during normal/daily usage. Battery life is something which is much more important.

I know, right? Battery life is simply superb. Around 4 hours of screen on time, with 1 hour of voice calls and still 50% battery remaining. My previous phone, Samsung Galaxy S4, would have completely drained out by now.

That doesn't mean there is no rootchecker at the bootloader. There is, but it's not as persistent as Samsung's KNOX and it can be reset by flashing a stock ROM.

Nexus 4 or GS4

I'm switching to T-Mobile in a few more days when my contract ends and was wondering on which phone to get. Would the Nexus 4 be a better choice then the Galaxy S4?

Depends on what you want. The downsides to the N4 are the camera, lack of expandable storage/removable battery and fragility of the glass back. Everything else on the N4 is a plus. The GS4 is better in most ways in terms of hardware but it feels awful in the hand and TouchWiz actually makes it lag despite having a Snapdragon 600. Personally, I'd choose the N4 since I don't feel there's anything on the GS4 that makes it worth hundreds of pounds/dollars more than the N4. It ultimately comes down to your own opinion though, nobody can decide for you.

It really depends on what your looking for. The Nexus is obviously easier to root and unlock the bootloader and such, but the S4 has better specs. i would get the HTC One

I've owned the gs4..just bought the n4 and to my surprise the n4 is faster and feels more fluent despite specs..it feels more premium..gs4 beats it everywhere else..
Granted the GS4 has better specs. My brother in law just got one on Verizon. Looks great, but the feel isn't as solid as the N4 IMO. Also no wireless charging is a negative for me at this point, because I bought a few of the wireless pads already lol.
N4 definitely feels more fluid and smooth. I feel like the n4 will "work" better than s4 in terms of development. But s4 beats it everywhere else. Speaking about n4 downfall.... I'm running out of space..Lol

Get the s4 till you get bored of it, sell it and buy n4

Girlfriends got a GS4.
I used to have a GS3.
Just recently moved to N4 after getting tired of turning all my Galaxy phones into nexii and i don't miss a thing about the S3. The only thing I can give to the S4 is the 13MP camera that its got on the back but other than that I'm Nexus all the way. Feels way more fluid plus Touchwiz is pure rubbish in my opinion. Even my girlfriend wants me to root her S4 after seeing my Nexus in action.
It's all about what's a dealbreaker for you. For me it was the screen, i got tired of the saturation on AMOLED screens where whites looked like blues and yellows compared to the N4.
Cheers

I would either get GS4 GE or Mi 2S
Id get the gs4.. It has expandable storage, removable battery, better camera, screen plus its made of polycarbonate which is an amazing material. Processors also faster and alot of the samsung software is excellent. I used to hate touchwiz but nowadays it is actually a feature and not a con imho.
The N4 is cheaper though and as others have stated, it feels nice in the hand, is better looking and has wireless charging. For me however, GS4>N4 and i would trade my N4 for one any day if i could cover the difference.
Youll be happy with whichever one you get

If money isn't an issue, get the s4. If it is an issue then I would get the nexus 4. regardless of the phone you choose, you will get an awesome android experience

If you're getting it on contract and don't care for price i would recommend the gs4 just cause its newer and has better hardware but still the n4 is smoother as I've used both. If it were me I would get the one over both though or the one Google edition

I am on S2. Found the N4 fm retailer at 360 euro and the S4 at 485 euro..
Should I go for the Nexus?
Appreciate insight..
p.s. my biggest concern is lack of expandable storage and nexus bugs as reported here in xda (S4 bugs too)
If I had the cash I'll definitely go for the S4, better in every aspect except updates. But looking at Sammy's update history, they are the fastest one second to Google.

N4 for sure. It just feels great in the hands. I hate all the bells and whistles that the G4 comes with and would end up making it pure vanilla anyways. Unless they were the exact same price i wouldn't consider the G4. A lot of my storage is in the cloud and I save game saves on dropbox. Therefore i just uninstall games when i get bored with them. I don't see a use to having 300 apps installed just because you can and all my music is with google music so its all streaming.

I second the "bells and whistles"! Same thing with my S2.. I ended up with custom rom (rootbox) - to avoid all the bloat - which is very close to stock android with some extra feats..
I believe I will take the plunge for Nexus 4 in the end.. A colleague of mine got it and is reaaaally fluid (he kept it stock-unrooted). And if you think abt it you may not even need rooting it at all..

Even just stock kernel and rom rooted. I personally cannot live without root call blocker, root explorer, datasync and adaway. I only went with an AOKP ROM because I'm a tweaker.

The N4 is awesome and youll be surprised how happy and comfortable it is on stock rooted or unrooted.
The next nexus should be out within 5 months so it really depends on how desperate you are for a new phone. The N4 is really nice but whats the N5. Who knows. with tech these days the next big thing is always around the corner, you can never catch it.

I use CyanogenMod, so that's a moot point to me. I always plan on installing an AOSP-based ROM as soon as it is available.
I come from a GNex and aosp is noobsville compared to a feature rich rom with no lag.

Had a S4 messed around with it lol and gave it back to the store and got the G2 loving this phone 10x more than the s4
Had the s4 and ran the gpe 4.3. Trust me.. I won't go back after using this phone. As someone said, Google's Android isn't as good as a feature rich device that gives you similar performance.
As for the phone itself, every screen, battery, performance, camera... The G2 blows the s4 away

I have recently owned the HTC One, S4, and S4 Active and the G2 is night and day difference! Now I will clarify that I haven't received my unit yet but I set them up for people at my work and didn't put it down all day Friday. If you haven't played with one yet go and try it out... you wont regret it. The S4 is a joke compared... I can say the same about all 3 of the above phones. I hope to get my unit this week...
It is a perfect blend of features for me. The HTC One had an amazing screen but it was a tad to small and the battery life was horrible. The S4 had a nice form factor but the AMOLED was horrible IMO, and the S4 active was nice with the LCD instead of the AMOLED but the G2 has the looks, screen, battery, features, loki-able, camera, speed.... i could go all day
Before you rebuttal with some garbage about aluminum remember that you would use a case because a scratch is imminent and complain about the weight.

I'm coming from an s4. This phone is a huge upgrade over the s4 imo. It runs smoother, has a much better screen which can actually be viewed outside, has photosphere, has OIS, runs smoother, better battery, and imo a better sock Rom experience in general, and knock on and off is awesome (yes I'm aware of apps and using gestures but I find LG's built in knock on works better)
It's a joke the s4 is the same price and even if the s4 were cheaper I would still get the g2.
I like my g2 so much more that before I got the g2 I said to myself that if tethering didn't work I would keep the s4 because I need tethering but after buying my g2 and using for an hour I knew there was no way I could go back to the s4. I sold it a couple hours later.
This is by far the best smartphone I've ever owned.

Only downside I see that may arise is lack of development. It'll come, but it will take a while compared to the S4.

I came from two S4's. One on Verizon and then one on AT&T when I switched carriers. I didn't like the One, so the S4 was the best choice for me at the time. I hate AOSP, so the Nexus 4 wasn't an option for me.
Anyhow, this phone blows the S4 completely out of the water and then it gets a hold of it again, throws it back into the water and blows it out of the water again. It's that much better imo.
Don't even consider the S4. Trust me. This phone is where it's at right now.

I'm stuck between the two. I'm running rooted s4 with bioshock kernel and it's pretty smooth but G2 is still smoother and much faster. HD games run butter smooth. Screen is unbelievable. But I do not like the camera in really low light where I have to turn on flash. The pictures are dim. When I try panoramic I have pan slower than the s4 or parts of it gets blurry. I use my phone a lot to take pics so that part is the most important to me. Also no sd card so my 64gb card that's almost full is useless.

i had well still have s4, but after seeing this one, for some reason it felt more user friendly, more pleasent, screen is amazing, battery life to die for, 2hr screen time i was still at 60% plus, every where you look you see samsung, i was affraid i would miss wireless charging but so far so good
Sent from my LG-D801 using Tapatalk 2
Traded s4 just yesterday for the g2...no comparison really. The s4 is not a bad phone, but stock to stock, the g2 is just so much smoother and the screen is a nice upgrade. Can't go wrong with either, but if you are debating between the two, I would definitely go g2...there really is no downside.
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk 4
I had a S4 with octalag cores, it was slow and touchwiz bloat and slowed up everything. Yet benchmarks were fast? Ok camera, shakey video then the screen broke in my pocket from the heat difference.
LG G2 is waaaay better in my eyes.

No SD card issue for me with my G2 F320L, I can still keep on using my Extreme sandisk 64GB
I had the I9500 since launch, and the G2 is better in every single aspect. The only thing I can see worth arguing over is the screen. (LCD vs amoled) I'm happy with either, and the G2 screen is phenomenal. I only have a couple of nags with the G2, some of which already solved by XDA (low speaker volume, bloat) and the others will be solved in time.
The buttons on the back will have you cursing for a few days, but after that you'll get used to that. It hit me once like a ton of bricks, while talking on the phone I wanted to turn the volume up. Normally this means fumbling trying to find the volume rocker on the side, but then it hit me, hey my finger is ALREADY on the damn button. Done. And after you get used to knock on, you'll be upset with other devices that can't do it. I never touch the sleep button.
I had pretty decent lag issues with the S4, among some other nags, the G2 has NONE of these. Its a monster 99% of the time. (I've only found a couple of super oddball issues) I rooted day one, and did a Titanium restore, Nova launcher, etc. No problems. I swear this is the fastest, most responsive typing experience I've ever had with SwiftKey.
I was also desperate to be able to return to AOSP (or an AOSP based rom) and the Exynos S4 looked pretty bleak for full support. (as usual) Makes me wish I had gotten the I9505. (snapdragon)
I'm not huge on battery life (I'm able to charge most of the time) but the G2 also wins here by tons. I'm completely happy with that. S4 w/rom and kernel was doing an average of 12ish hours for me, the G2.... probably 18-20. I left the G2 unplugged overnight and with two days of mild use I got over 30hrs. When the screen is off it uses NO battery. (for me and my setup)
I had a 16gb card in my S4, and the G2 is 32gb... so even steven there.
All that being said, I'm paying very close attention to Nexus 5 news. I'm an AOSP junky, and I'm very much ready to return to a Nexus phone for that reason. The fact that it will be based on this hardware is exciting. When we get official word on the N5, I'll weigh the G2 vs the N5, and how the dev scene looks for the G2. If I knew for an absolute fact that the G2 could/will have the same dev potential that the N5 will undoubtedly have, that would seal it for me. (I did the same thing last year, bought the LG OG, and wished I had gotten the N4)
Summery: Noway is there a valid argument to get the S4 over the G2. (unless you *HAVE* to have removable storage/battery)
All of this is my opinion for what its worth. I've been using Android phones since before the Nexus One, and I usually try all of the flagship phones, minus the phablets and *usually* no HTC models.
Some days I take my S4 with me and some days I take the G2. I like them both but if I had to choose only one to keep it would be the G2. The S4 has better GPS for some reason. It locks twice as fast but it's no big deal. I can live with 32gb of memory and 3000mah batteries.

S4 or LG G2?

I'm so torn between these two phones but I want a phone that has a great camera, I like the fact that the G2 has OIS but does it actually make much difference?
From what I understand I have heard that the LG G2 has a poor weak flash which is unfortunate as I know the flash on the S4 is very good and powerful.
I like the design of the G2 and I know the battery life would be better but it's so hard to decide.

I previously owned a S4 and if you can live with touchwiz(I couldn't) you will get the benefit of having external storage and a removable battery which could be useful with your picture taking. From all accounts LG's UI is lag free and OIS really helps when taking videos. If you are mainly focused on taking stills then I would go with the S4 mainly for the external storage and removable battery, if you don't mind putting up with touchwiz.
I know it's a bit quick to judge, but after four days with G2, I'm thinking of switching to S4.
I always root my devices, and really miss Slim Bean ROM from Nexus 4, so touchwiz would not be an issue.
Mainly I'm a bit disappointed in G2's camera, and that I can't use Automatic call recorder from Play Store.
Also there seems to be a lack of devs for the D802 version.

And I'm not even a spec junkie. I've had both and the G2 is just simply the better phone.

G2 > S4. Period (That should help you)
G2 compares to the Note 3.
I dumped my S4 as quickly as I could to get my G2. I was severely disappointed with the S4. It was a huge misfire by Samsung imo.
Touchwiz lags like crazy on that phone. They seemed to have fixed that issue on the Note 3 if you're interested in a phone of that size.
But between just the S4 and the G2, there is no competition. The G2 blows the S4 out of the water imo.

Exactly. The G2 competes directly with the Note 3 therefore the S4 is not even comparable. The S4 is arguably the most disappointing flagship phone this year. The HTC One is much better in my opinion.

Actually, the S4 is currently so disappointing, that the rumor says that Samsung will present the S5 already in January.
http://articles.timesofindia.indiat...s-ii-flagship-smartphone-smartphone-portfolio
The G2 does not compete against the Note3, because these are from two different categories. The effective screen size of the G2 (meaning what you are left with because of that Nav bar, which is about 4.9 inch), is still far smaller than that huge 5.7 inch of the Note 3.
The Note 3 is a huge screen, two handed device, while the G2 is a regular screen (a bit smaller than the S4) with excellent one handed operation (and battery life).
G2 no question, the only thing i miss about touch jizz is the alarm and the ability to swipe to call from text messages and from contact,
Everyone has their opinion. Myself, I have both and love both. But, my Verizon S4 didn't locked down with the ME7 update like many did, and I run Hyperdrive on it. No lag at all and great battery life. It's a damn nice phone and I'm glad I have it. If I had to choose between an ME7 S4 and a G2, I would take the G2 in a heart beat. But between a pre-ME7 S4 and a G2... that would be a tough call for me.

I came from a pre ME7 S4 and don't regret it. Hyperdrive is a very overrated rom imo. I ran aosp on the S4 but when I needed Touchwiz, I usually stuck with beans. Both are top devices though and no one can go wrong with picking either one. Still deciding whether to keep the S4 or sell it.

If you're on Sprint then hands down go g2. It supports Sprint's future network.

And that would be a huge mistake from Samsung. The reason why the S4 was disappointing in the first place is because Samsung rushed it to the market.
Yes, the G2 does not compete in the market against the Note 3, but i does in terms of specs, battery life and performance thats why many of us are torn between both devices.

The g2. The s4 I had lagged even with root and all that stuff. The g2 also has a better battery life than s4. I love everything about the g2.

Agreed. I had the early S4 that I had fully rooted and it didn't matter. Some roms made it more manageable, but the lag was still there.
The G2 is in a different class than the S4. It's much, much better.

HTC One vs LG G2

I have a few questions regarding both phones. I have the HTC One right now. Is the difference between the Snapdragon 800 and 600 noticeable? What about the display differences? Which software UI is better and has more features? What about camera software and hardware? Would you recommend upgrading to the G2 or waiting for the next gen of phones?
S800 battery efficient g2 has great standby time screen you could still give to the one ,on software front its no major lag issues ,if you could you can wait for M8☺

Yeah, I can wait for sure. I am in no need for a new phone, but I was just looking to see if the LG G2 is worth the upgrade. The M8 is something that I probably will not buy because HTC is not great with its battery life. I am actually buying an external battery case for it just to cope with the bad battery life.

I have owned both phones. Currently own the G2. There's no noticeable difference between S800 and 600 in day to day usage but there is in gaming since they use different GPUs. Software UI is a matter of preference. I like the look of sense UI better and love blinkfeed but prefer the features LG offers like knock on, slide aside and the customizability. The G2 has definitely the superior camera. I think the HTC One is more fluid though I must say. At this point I would say wait for the next gen, you have a great phone in your possession.

Okay, for the next gen, here are the phones I would look at: Galaxy S5, HTC M8, iPhone 6, Galaxy Note 4. Which one would you go with based off their track record? And could you see Samsung using their 64 bit chipset with 4GB of RAM on the S5 or more likely on the Note IV based off the news reports yesterday?
IMO wait for the next gen. Lg is a fantastic phone but there is no need to upgrade to LG g2 if you already have the one. I think you are better served with waiting until the next gen of phones.

In all honesty, all these 4 devices you mentioned are gonna be insane. I can't wait to see what happens. The Galaxy S5 is gonna be insanely powerful and probably will have that 64bit chipset you're talking about. The HTC M8 is gonna be based off the One but better with better internals. Quality at it's best. The iPhone 6 is expected to have a larger display. I'm really looking forward to that since it's their "major upgrade year". Then the Note 4 which will be the most powerful device of them all but i personally am no longer a fan of HUGE display. You can add on that list the LG G3. I'm currently using the G2 and I love it, eager to see what LG is gonna bring. 2014 is gonna be one heck of a year. If I had to choose a device right now it'll be the Galaxy S5. I think Samsung understand that customers want a phone with a nice design and choice of material. And I think touchwiz is gonna be revamped.

Yeah, I think I would agree with you on the S5. I was thinking that can be my item I buy for myself around my birthday since I could scrap money together by then to put a downpayment w/ T-Mobile USA or someone else. The iPhone needs more RAM to truly take advantage of its current chipset. The Note is impressive, but the device is going to get blown out in a few months.
I got my G2 a few days ago and in very satisfied with it. It's an extreme device for its price. It's crazy to see how fast the development is going but I don't regret getting the g2 so late. Anyway I came from an iPhone 4 so it's a huge upgrade anyway.

Yep. But knowing myself I will own them all.
Samsung MUST succeed with this S5 cause HTC is not playing anymore, they are releasing quality devices from now on. And LG is a great choice for people that don't like Samsung phones so there are more and better choices now then ever before. And the S4 didn't do as good as Samsung anticipated. So they are gonna go big with this S5. It's pretty much a given that it won't be plasticky like before and that performance is gonna be stellar.

My cousin even chose the HTC One over the S4. It just looked like a bigger S3 with a better screen, more bloatware, lag, new software features, etc. I would take a S4 for HTC One trade straight up, but only for resale value, but that's not really something I seek right now since I will probably keep my HTC One regardless of my next phone. I just hope they don't pull the Apple stunt and use the Note III properitary charger and region lock phones. I would also like the S5 to have a good look with metal and still retain the SD card slot. Time will tell in March and then April is the big release month.

What is this Galaxy F? F for Five?
My buddy is upgrading his One with a G2. His notification light is very dim, he blew out the speaker on the One without it even being at max volume, and is just tired of all the mistakes HTC keeps making as a company in general.
I feel bad for him, he was a big HTC fan since the days of the EVO 4G, and I know that feeling, coming from an original Droid myself... Having loyalties to Motorola.
But it's the future now and Samsung has a huge advantage in the mobile world at this point, making them the next Apple. Not being a fan of HTC myself, and getting fed up with Motorola time and again... LG was the most logical step to take. And G2 is a beast of a phone. Last time I checked, it even beat out the Note 3 in benchmarks in AnTuTu. And it gets me through an entire day of pretty intense use. All while still having a beautiful display, super thin bezel, awesome features (such as Knock On), and enough third party development to keep my flashing needs satisfied.

Sold my G2. come back or not ?

hi everyone I sold my G2 to my friend cuz I wanted the white color. I'm thinking now of getting another phone not the white G2 but it seems that G2 is the best out there. I was thinking about the Gflex ? what do you think about this ? even with the new HTC and S5 and the Z2 I think G2 still the best. should I try the G flex or just get the white G2 ?
I would go with the nexus 5 its a nice phone i like the g2 but it is to locked down compared to the nexus 5

I tried the nexus 5. the battery life is very bad compering to the G2 also G2 has a bigger screen and much better camera
It's really a matter of size. The flex is bigger...but so it's the battery. I don't want another phone until they give me more in the same form factor.

I asked about that it does have less battery life but it is a much smaller battery I'm going to get a nexus 5 but get a case that charges the nexus 5

had G2, swapped for Z1, straight back to G2.
G2 pros:
slim bezels
good camera features
Great ROM support
Back buttons.
Cons:
camera not the best 13 megapixel shooter
plastic
LG slow with updates
You decide if it's worth it
