Battery life

Hi all
Here in UK We still waiting for TAB 10.1
very confused between ipad2 or this one
after a lot of reading I've made my decision to buy this one, but the only thing I really want to know is the battery life for this one as it is very important for me
( doing a lot of travelling long distances on the plane)
Engadget said that its battery lasted above 8 Hours of video loop while others said it lasted just above 5 hours.
I know that the Tab cannot beat the Ipad2 when it comes to Battery, but I am still buying the tab10.1 if its battery lasts 1 or 2 hours less than the apple product.
Could you please -who own this item- let me know how the battery life is?
Many Thanks
i just received mine the other day. i let it charge overnight.
i then used it for just about 9.5 to 10 hours and plugged it in when the
battery meter was at 15%.
the battery life is excellent !
it really depends what you are doing on it. I use it throughout the day but primarily while at work to keep my sanity (I work overnights). I watch loads of HD youtube videos and the browser since my office thought it was cool to put website blocks and disable flash (for youtube blocking) so to see videos on sites or actually see full sites the tablet is crucial. I tether the wifi from my HTC Thunderbolt for access. I do also play some games. I can get through my 8 hour day with about 50%
Edit
based on pandamaja's response below, I didnt actually touch the screen brightness so that means it is working harder to auto adjust itself according to the brightness it is in
Battery life so far has been excellent. I don't travel as much as I used to, but I can see this thing lasting for a good while. Like others have mentioned, it depends on usage.
The display is going to be the single largest battery drain. I'm not sure about the 'others' tests, but the tests done by engadget and apple are done with the display brightness set at 50% I believe.
I've been very impressed with the battery life so far. My Evo basically lives next to a charger. Before I went to bed last night I considered not even charging the tab.
So far so good for me. I haven't timed it but I have been using the tab on and off for a couple for days before needing to charge it.
I do keep the brightness level pretty low.
I have had my tablet on since I bought the device. I charged it for an hour after playing with it, and have watched 3 hours of TV shows, and when I have not been using it, it has been idling (for 4-5 days). The battery was at 37% when I finally plugged it in last night. This tablet's battery life is the best battery life of any device I've ever owned.
pretty much been having the same experience as everyone here. i've gone through 2 days without charging (currently at 47%), and this is with browsing the internet, watching videos, and playing games. depends on the display brightness and usage. i have mine set at about 50%, as i find that plenty sufficient.. this panel gets bright. the tab also holds charge real well when in standby.
Thanks for that, very helpful
any one has set it on video loop with reasonable brightness (50% i guess good)?
How long can u get?
the reason I am asking because I am flying quite regularly to mexico ( 10 hours) and mostly watching movies
any help very much appreciated
Many Thanks
how did samsung even manage to squeeze that amount of juice in?

Hey OP
I believe that most reviews for the tab says it can play ~10 hours of video using 65-70% brightness. I've read at least 5 reviews having similarly result. Only one review got 5 hours of video. I would doubt that review.
FYI, the ipad2 gets 10.5 hours under 70% brightness playing video.
I got my tab yesterday. I played video for about 2-3 hours, using 70% brightness, and baterry went down ~30%. I would say a 10 hour video playback seems to be correct.

Please post your web-browing battery life

Can we start collecting some stats. Can people post what battery percentage they lose every 30 minutes or an hour of just browing websites on wifi and/or 3G and specify which one, and also average screen brightness during this time. I know this tablet using superAmoled will have less battery life than if you watched movies, but there should be some standard of web browsing.
I use about 20% battery life, just on wifi, brighness at max of 30%, battery stats showing no abnormal activity in the background.
[edit] on ICS 2nd stage. using Chrome browser.
About 13% per hour here. This is a P6800, using wifi only (radio turned off), in an area with low wifi signal (2 bars). Minimum brightness, CM10, default JellyBean browser.
(EDIT: 20% in 1.5h, so 13-14% per hour)

i did read that yesterday while scouring the web for web-browsing results for the SGT 7.7, which is why I was hoping we could all share our experiences, since I know myself, and it sounds like others, are not getting 7 hours of straight web browsing. Me I am getting 5. Starting to think it is a hardware defect and to contact Samsung, but wanting some more data also.
That's a bit worse than what I'm getting on CM10. Quite impressive, I'd think Samsung would tune their ROM better than what the community could do in a couple of months.

Screen shot you battery usage and post. Maybe there is an app we can see causing your drain. If your screen isn't drawing 70%+ there may be an app running out of hand.

With wifi and auto brightness, max is 5 hours screen up time. How they get 7 hours? @@
well I switch from chrome to opera and battery life is much better in initial usage. 16 percent battery in an hour in 15 minutes. auto brightness in a dim indoor setting. tablet temp is also not going over 100 where with chrome that was normal. Will test for a few days.
end of one full battery session only using opera mobile to browse.
with 37% left I had the screen on for 4.25 hours, auto brightness indoors, most of which was browsing. while browsing i also downloaded 2 HD movies from google play on wifi as well as updated about 10 apps and downloaded a couple more. after watching 1:35 minutes of an HD movie at about 80% brightness, the battery only went down to 26% from the 37% which is what i am used to for this tablet for video, it's amazing due to the lack of pure whites and a lot of dark colors including the black bars. browsed the web another 20 minutes, only lost a few more percent. put it on the charger at 22% and will pick it up again tomorrow.
also regardless of what browser i use, my tablet is a standby machine. with the screen off i may lose a percent every few hours.
during the screen on time my temp went over 100 degrees only while downloading movies and browsing. and it only went to 102. just browsing with chrome the tablet would get to 107.
will test again tomorrow and see if the trend continues or if this was an anomaly. if i get three days in a row with this kind of battery life, i am uninstalling chrome and sticking with opera for now.
This is my stats after almost 5 hours on 3g. Activities includes Web browsing, music streaming etc.

using stock honeycomb 3.2, I also have the ics update but I won't do it
1 hour for 10% how much I will get? do the math ^_^
and now after 4 hours of continuous usage, still 60%

well it's been some days since i stopped using chrome and tested out numerous other browsers. here are my results.
using chrome my tab would get quite warm and lose close to 20% an hour browsing on 20-50% brightness. the stock browser wasn't much better.
i have tried opera, maxthon, boat and xscope. maxthon is just not good layout wise on a tablet. maxthon tablet is quite nice with an awesome and fast night mode that turns text into white, the background into medium gray and still shows all the pictures in full color - which is amazing for a samoled screen not having to produce all these white backgrounds. however it FC's a lot and you can see that in the comments. keep an eye on this browser as it is being developed.
xscope just doesn't have a nice enough interface for me on a tablet. boat also got my tablet warm.
so opera mobile. my battery life has gone up extensively since i started using this. with heavy heavy browsing i am getting between 7-8 hours battery life. with steady browsing mixed in with other things like using pulse, taptu, play store i am getting 8 hours+.
i monitor my temps and they stay much much cooler, like 7-10 degrees and often more. with chrome or stock i would notice the left side of the tablet getting warm quickly.
i am running the stock ICS stage 2 ROM, rooted. standby time is amazing, i will not lose more than a percent of battery every few hours. i used to keep GPS on and do quite well standby but in better battery stats i noticed MAPS having wakelock time for many minutes while on standby even with settings set so it shouldnt. so i just turn GPS off until i need it. other than that, nothing special.
for those with lower battery life on wifi browsing, try opera for a few days. let us know what your results are.
well it's been a week since I switched browsers. i have to say it's like having a brand new 7.7
chrome is uninstalled. the stock internet is never used. i ended up testing the maxthon tab browser and opera. the last 4 days just exclusively opera mobile.
i don't think the maxthon tab browser is ready for prime time even with an update in the last week. keeping an eye on it.
opera mobile has been the best option, though it has some features i feel need tweaking and others that are better, it is still a nice browser. it also creates far lower temps, lower cpu usage and far better battery life with my tab. 2 hours more per charge at least than chrome or stock.
i hope this helps some people out who are having battery issues in regards to standard internet browsing. if you encounter simliar success, please post.
I don't lose a single percentage in battery when I sleep at night after the ICS update. That's 6-8hrs of sleep. Is that normal? I am happy about it though, but is it normal?

Nice. I thought my Tab was kind of 'over-sleeping'. Haha. Thanks!
Here's my battery usage... Currently at 9% after a full days use with about 2hrs+ surfing on 3g, 2hrs of satnav and a few texts and calls. Pretty impressive i think. I am using Dolphin browser which for me blows all the rest away. Good on battery, great gestures and fast.
Here's mine. I was listening music for about two hours while browsing

Considering buying this tablet, Just one question

What's the battery life of this tablet like?
I have a job that involves 8+ hours away from the office.
I really like the spen functionality the tablet provides as well as the multitasking potential it offers.
I don't really need to know how many hours of watching movies or playing games this tablet will sustain.
I want to know what battery life is like if I will be primarily using this tablet for web browsing and reading PDFs, typing up notes using word processing apps, non stop 8+ hours a day at let's say at 40 to 50% percent brightness.
Does this tablet at minimum beat the ipad 4 in terms of web browsing/reading PDFs battery life?
What would it take to completely drain the battery life of the tablet if one were to only use it for web browsing?
Can anyone post their experiences to ease the worries of a wary buyer that want's to know what their getting for such a pricey tablet.
I'm getting a average of 7 to 8 hours of screen on time out of my note10.1 2014.
Sent from my SM-P600 using Tapatalk 4
i get 9-11hrs, but i always have my brightness set at 25% or lower.
With average usage I'm getting around 8 hrs also. With heavy use (video calling and games) I get around 5hrs.
Everyday is different, unless you do the same thing everyday at the same time for the same amount of time. But with all the piddly things I've had issues with on this tablet the battery REALLY impresses me, and I'm a real heavy user (IE, Sketching, Games, YouTube, Web Surfing etc.) But I also keep my auto brightness on (I know, I hate it too) and common sense, if you don't need the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, turn it off, although I never do and have been really impressed so far with the battery. pound for pound awesome tablet.
I have yet to have this thing die on me. After using it heavy all day, the lowest I've seen the battery before plugging it in is about 18% and my day starts at 8 (8-5 Work Day - Moderate to Above Average Use) and ends anywhere between 11pm to 2am with 6 o'clock till I go to bed HEAVY HEAVY use, especially since I'm new to tablets and still playing with this one a lot. It never leaves my hands basically.
Hope this helps.
you rarely need to exceed 40% brightness on this thing. this is the first thing i've used that i found to strain my eyes when at 100%. 25-40% works 90% of the time.
As far as iPad comparsison goes, supposedly it has slightly worse battery life. I think phonearena or something gave iPad 9 hours and this device a little over 8. Battery life isn't a concern. You should be able to get through the day without a hitch.
So it seems that the consensus is that the tablet will definitely last a full day's use assuming a typical 9-5 workday using it for browsing purposes.
The battery life averages about 8 hours or so at around 40 percent brightness at continuous use.
Can anyone with the previous generation note comment on how the 2014 model compares to the older model?
I get the impression that it's about the same. Although it has a slightly larger battery, the increased power draw from the higher resolution screen makes it average out to around the same average battery life for things to power the things we do more frequently - that is, browsing, reading, and typing notes, with the occasional movie here and there.
I currently own a galaxy tab 2. I can verify that at about 40 percent brightness, i'd also get around 8 hours or so of mixed use. If I'm strictly using it for a heavy web browsing session, the battery only lasts about 6 hours.
This is me being very conservative with my estimates.
I get the impression that this note 10.1 2014 does a bit better in that regard huh?
8 hours browsing?
Also owned the 2012 note 10.1 and indeed battery life is the same.
Sent from my SM-P600 using Tapatalk 4
I was just in an 8-hour class where I used S-Note extensively. (From 8:30a to 4:30p.) I took around 20 pages of notes. When I wasn't actively taking notes, I was experimenting with the features of S-Note and the tablet in general since it's pretty new to me, as well as browsing the web, Facebook, etc. When the class started my battery was at 83% (I didn't plug it in until very late last night and didn't turn it off while it charged, so it wasn't fully charged when I left home this morning). As of now, over 45 minutes after the class, my battery is at 53%. My screen brightness has been around 25% all day which was plenty bright in a brightly lit room.
We did have a half-hour lunch, and a couple breaks during which the screen was off. But, not too shabby, if you ask me.

is my battery faulty?

hey,
Im a new tablet user.I own a nexus 7 and im so disappointed with its battery life that i cant take it anymore so i have to ask.its just been a couple of days since i bought it. the maximum on screen time i get is 5-6hrs.i scrolled over battery life posts of others on this forum and i was shocked to see many of them actually have good battery life which made me worry even more.Maybe its the battery's fault or something.it had some heating issues then i did a factory reset now its fine but the battery still sucks.i have disabled all google apps,location,maps,books..etc all that i dont need but still its no good.please suggest something.shoud i ask for replacement or is it something like the model whose price go down are geared up with cheaper hardware and stuff cos i bought this one recently and this probably came out last year.
The third screenshot was taken after watching a full movie on earphones with full battery.it went down 32 % of the battery.wifi was off.
Please suggest
It's you usage. That's all. Games take a huge toll on battery life on any device.
You have no issue.
Try one full charge with zero gaming. See how you do then. ?
That's about average, as LJ says games really suck battery the most. My typical usage consists of web browsing, XDA forum on Tapatalk browsing, pocket, twitter, fb, etc nothing too heavy really. I get about 4-5 hrs screen on over about 2-3 days. Im usually only on my tablet in the evening and so it sleeps the rest of the time with WiFi and autosync off.
You can always experiment with other ROMs/kernels to see if you can tweak things further.
Also, 5.0 is on the way, you could always flash the factory images for a full fresh lollipop experience. [emoji2]

Heavy use endurance

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the Moto G7 Power's battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I am sorry in advance not trying to insult or anything when it comes to battery life of any smartphones in general
But under heavy usage. How long can this phone last?
I'll be travelling soon so i need the longest battery possible
=============================================
If anyone is kind enough to conduct one test on this device
There is an app called "photorealism benchmark 2018" (very heavy GPU infinite test)
If someone can download this free and let the phone run from 100% > 0% with around 30% brightness on WIFI and see
I doubt it can last more than 5 hours of screen on time running this app

I really love to see someone with 5000 mAh battery would do continuous hours test of running any 3D graphic app
like
1: Running 3D benchmark app from 100% > 0% with 40% of brightness and everything on
2: Playing / grinding levels in RPG/MMORPG games
3: Playing games continuously 100% > 0% with 40% brightness and everything on

Well I don't know if I will do some all day long 3d Benchmarks. And I don't think it would suit my needs in daily usage to be honest. I can only give info about the stuff I do with my phone day in and day out. But I will try to get some benchmarking out of your suggestions. But don't expect all too much ? I will do some heavy usage in terms of social apps, media apps, software usage, streaming and gps/ wifi/ data.

Thanks for taking your time and report in advance.
You do not have to run benchmarks just leave screen on with some 3D application on (motion 3D app that runs till battery dies)
Heavy usage in terms of social apps wifi can last you like 8-10hrs easily with 5000 mAh
(but everything else is on AS WELL AS 3D app) >> 5-6 hrs max of REAL SOT

There are 2 major benchmark tests for free on GOOGLE PLAY
1: Photorealism 2018
2: A bit less power consumption Seascape
(im pretty sure photorealism 2018) will eat this 5000 mAh in about 5-6 hours from 100% > 0% with everything else is on (Sync,40% brightness, Wifi, LTE etc...)
Some people do battery drain with wifi only etc.. i think thats bit off
I prefer to test battery with all options TURNED ON (50% brightness, autosync, lte, cellular, gps)
Then i do battery drain with super heavy 3D tasks
(In this case, i call it under REAL HEAVY ENDURANCE)
1: Photorealism 2018
2: A bit less power consumption Seascape
Sorry i didn't reply that long. I had some health issues. But i'll take those as indicator.
How good is heavy multitasking on this? Several apps open, a lot of browsing on Chrome, frequent WhatsApp/Viber and social media scrolling and camera snaps every now and then?
Moto = dog**** USB ports?
The USB port in my last Moto G(6) went out in about 4 months. I assumed it was a fluke, but 3 months in on the g7, its already 96% gone. VERY specific and random angles will charge but nothing else. Tried different cords, cleaning port, etc (both on this and the g6), doesnt matter. My only conclusion is that Moto uses cheap garbage on one of the most essential parts of the phone. Can anyone confirm this? Im sure I use my USB more than than the common person (Android development) but **** is 3 months a JOKE
Heavy usage experience - IMHO
I have used the Redmi Note 4S, Mi Max 2, Redmi Note 8T and Motorola G7 Power. My typical day is dealing with lots of email, web browsing, whatsapp, wechat some facebook and all the banking software. Mi Max 2 has been my choice of phone for a long time even though it barely carry me through the day. I start normally at 6am and finishes around 9pm. Since using Motorola G7 Power, 95% of the time it will still have power left after 9pm.... normally 20% battery or more. I just wish it has a nicer camera but it is fine with ample lighting. Even the Mi Max 2 will be exhausted 90% of the time before 9pm. As for the Redmi Note 8T, it barely last past 6pm and the even less with Note 4S. If you are a no nonsense worker that is not a gamer, this phone is like a workhorse. Let me know if you have any other questions.
GSM arena has a battery test comparison. Moto G7 Power, is close to the top. I'm very impressed with the battery life. It's the main reason I bought the phone.

Don't know how it stacks up to the competition but when picking this phone from the Visible lineup it stood out on the factor of battery life alone.
I give it 5 stars because it has delivered as advertised. Approximately 3 days of battery life... And when I put it on its out of box charger the thing jumps at least 20 percent in an our or less time.
It's totally true... I don't have to feel afraid this thing is going to die on me. I just leave my charger in my room and plug it in (about a fifth of the time I used to think to charge my old phone). Normally I get a bit more conscious about it around 30 percent.
It's 1 am here... And I left my house at 5 pm yesterday. It was at 52 percent and now it's at 38. I've been streaming music, using Google maps... Making the occasional call. And browsing the web on it for the last hour.
I honestly think this phone would remain ready to ring for about a week if left entirely alone.
It's absurd and a great advantage in the notion of the need for a phone that isn't a pain in the @$$.
G7 Power - Battery
Bought mine 2 days ago so can not elaborate on USB-C robustness and overall reliability.
Below my experience so far:
Very bright screen, easy work on it outdoors even in sunny days (wish I could attach pics), if remember well, top brightness is ~630 candelas. IMHO one of the brightest LCD screens esp for a phone that sells for 160$ +Tax.
When got mine, I charged it to 100% before powering up.
After that decided to fully discharge it to give charge controller some data.
Biggest problem was discharging it, took forever:
I was playing YT videos at full brightness in full screen and in windowed mode to make sure it is not going into standby while also texting, updating system and apps and having hotspot running on it (Mobile signal strenght was at ab 50-70%)
It took ab 9hrs (test was going on for ab 10+ but few times forgot to return on time to click on YT button to continue video playback so it went into sleep).
Phone shut down after reaching 1% of battery capacity
Recharging was done on USB-C 60W charger from my Chromebook instead of stock 15W,
phone entered turbo charge state without any issues or overheating:
After 15 min of charging - batt charge level 22%
after 2 hrs of charging - batt charge level 95%
Last 5% took about 30 min as I am sure charger was in a slow charge for safety.
I was performing full charge-discharge curve to train the battery controller so in real life I guess phone will go into charging at ab: 10-15% and be off the charger at 90% as the extra few percent makes no difference while unnecessarily extend charging time and stress on the lithium cell.
So I estimate total charging time in daily use scenario will be ab 90min every 2-3 days (in my case, no gaming no binge YT watching etc).
IMHO a very good workhorse for a heavy duty daily use (but not for gaming or advanced photography, video shooting) at very low price!

For me you are either a troll trying to make people put thermal damage on their phones or a real gaming addict that needs a high end gaming rig not a smartphone - mobile devices of any kind are not for hardcore 100% duty cycle gaming, video editing etc.
BTW G7 Power sell for 160$, pocket change, buy one and run on it any crazy and destructive tests you dream about.
