[IRS] Dolby Headphone + Dolby Virtual Speaker (UPDATED TO V2) - Android Software Development

I created this thread in this forum because I don't see any forums or sections related to these. But because ViPER4Android have a convolution function, I made the thread here.
These IRS requires stereo (2ch) headphones and/or stereo (2ch) speakers
Dolby Headphone and Dolby Virtual Speaker impulse response samples. Includes:
- Dolby Headphone Reference Mode (L, R, C, SL, SR)
- Dolby Headphone Live Mode (L, R, C, SL, SR)
- Dolby Headphone Movie Theater Mode (L, R, C, SL, SR)
- Dolby Virtual Speaker Reference Mode (L, R, C, SL, SR)
- Dolby Virtual Speaker Wide 1 Mode (L, R, C, SL, SR)
- Dolby Virtual Speaker Wide 2 Mode (L, R, C, SL, SR)
- Dolby Headphone Reference Mode (Stereo)
- Dolby Headphone Live Mode (Stereo)
- Dolby Headphone Movie Theater Mode (Stereo)
- Dolby Virtual Speaker Reference Mode (Stereo)
- Dolby Virtual Speaker Wide 1 Mode (Stereo)
- Dolby Virtual Speaker Wide 2 Mode (Stereo)
L is left (left front)
R is right (right front)
C is center (center front)
SL is surround left (left-side surround)
SR is surround right (right-side surround)
No LFE (low-frequency effect) channel because most virtual surround decoders doesn't decode LFE channel
Features:
- 48KHz resampling, 16-bit depth
- 25ms length WAV
- 0ms delay
- Exact volume
- Accurate output
NOTE: These IRS themselves doesn't give a virtual surround decoding functionality, but instead allows you to choose the sound source location. The stereo downmixed IRS doesn't give actual spatial output, but might give you somewhat a "room reverb" effect. You can use these IRS to make virtual surround digital signal processor application, mix them in your music, or just have fun with your headphone and speakers using ViPER4Android.

Lİnk is dead.

Oh yeah. I forgot to make it available to public. Sorry. It's fixed, try again

Cool I will try this out as I am using both V4A and another mod that has some of both Sony and Dolby audio added.

Great I love the Dolby Headphone Reference sound 3 as it has the right amount of bass and mids so I don't have to use more effects.

Added DTS Headphone:X impulse response samples. Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2765331

Thanks my friend

This is awesome, i cant believe i didnt find this a long time ago.

Yay, updated to V2! :victory:

Hmm...there are no irs files in that zip. Am I overlooking something?

Leave theme wav files. Viper setting see them as the irs files.

Thanks, this is great!!

Great, i'm currently using V4A and Dolby at the same time
Let's try
Current phone:
Lenovo A316i (MT6572) (rooted) - Xperia Z4 Hatsune Miku

IRS Files
Hello my friends )
Hope you are fine this time.:victory:
Gratulations for Dolby Virtuel Speaker IRS files
Its sounds excellent and makes realy fun with great effects:cyclops:
The Windows are shaking, ***Rhythm is a dancer***SNAP***

How did you determine the exact starting and ending points of the IIRs? Isn't it possible that the output from the surround channels doesn't start at the exact same time as the output from the front channels?

using MK808 for media streaming?

does anyone have some experience doing this? i've got a pretty pricey sound system that im using a PS3 for streaming on right now, but due to some issues, it wont play some movies. do these sticks work good and support a full 5.1 DTS system for audio and video?
5.1 pass through is not supported - only downmix to PCM 2.0, unfortunately.

Welcome to AcoustiX Audio!
This modification aims to modify and use the full potential of Dolby Audio on HTC Devices with HTC BoomSound with Dolby Audio. It modifies the BoomSound profiles in Settings, you can switch to whichever one you want any time. The information below will indicate which BoomSound profile will be the custom AcoustiX Preset chosen.
AcoustiX+ (Tuned for headphones): A new surround sound effect aimed to sound more spacious/full than other presets. Select "HTC Pro Studio" in BoomSound settings.
AcoustiX Lite (Tuned for earphones): Same as AcoustiX+ but with more treble and less bass, designed for earphones and small drivers. Select "HTC in-ear" in BoomSound settings.
AcoustiX Cinematic (Tuned for headphones): A close imitation of surround sound audio in cinemas. Select "Others" in BoomSound settings.
AcoustiX Pro: Optimized for HTC Hi Res earphones, based on AcoustiX Lite. Select "HTC earbuds" in BoomSound settings.
AcoustiX HiFi: A special preset only for speakers. Greatly increases treble, improves virtual surround sound enhancement, using AcoustiX audio curve while leaving the bass untouched. Select "Theater Mode" in BoomSound settings when using SPEAKERS ONLY.
AcoustiX Resonance Speaker Boost Mod: This is a special speaker boost mod which aims to boost speakers when using "Theater Mode". There are 2 options in the AROMA installer, an "optimal" version to boost speakers at a relatively safe level and an "overdrive" version which boosts speakers even further but at the risk of distorted audio, audio clipping, and possible reduction of speaker life span.

how to install:
1) download and move it to your internal storage
2) reboot to recovery (root is not needed but a custom recovery is!)
3) install the zip like any other rom/mod
4) do not wipe anything, just reboot and check if acoustix_audio.txt is in /system. If so then it has been installed.

clarification on how to use:
in settings, go to boomsound > dolby headphone effects when headphones/aux is plugged in.
Each headphone effect profile corresponds to the correct acoustix profile below:
Htc earbuds > acoustix pro
htc in-ear > acoustix lite
htc pro studio > acoustix+
other > acoustix cinematic
to use acoustix hifi, unplug your headphones and make sure boomsound is set to "theater mode" in settings.
When acoustix resonance is installed, speaker volume boost is automatically applied when using "theater mode" in settings

Alright, BETA 1.1 is coming in a few mins It's probably the mount commands I put in the updater-script, try mounting the system and data manually and then install BETA 1.1
EDIT: 1.1 is out, mount system and data manually in recovery and see if it works then!
I just flashed Beta 1.1 without any manual mounting, it worked. I do have sound and it's pretty nice over my headphones (Sony MDR-ZX600). Thank you so far

Sometimes? or always? are you able to use sound at all? (Like touch sounds, sound effects, lockscreen sounds, change ringtone sounds etc)
If no sound at all, I will decrease audio playback to 48kHz, then in the future, I'll see if I can increase to 96kHz (WCD9310 DAC supports up to 192kHz but not sure if S600 chips have the same DAC)

• If you get FCs with V4A because of selecting an IRS, it's probably because of the "%" in the file name. You must rename them. Sorry for the inconvenience.
• If an IRS doesn't produce any change, try the fix mentioned here
• For fixing statusbar and notification drawer issues caused by the sound mod, go here
• I've created a quick dirty program to rename WAV to IRS as I forgot to rename some of them. Download wav2irs_renamer.zip from my Google Drive IRS directory.
• Alternatively, you can create a ".nomedia" file in /sdcard/ViPER4Android/Kernel so media players will not scan that folder.

Dolby Digital Plus - Ported from Lenovo Yoga 2 (E-AC3 codec & DTS Sound enhancement included)
E-AC3/DDP codec for MTK ported from Hisense
This is the latest version of Dolby Digital Plus sound enhancement, ported by me and modified to work across all Android 4.1+ ROMs, without the need of framework modifications. Just direct flashing.

How do I use the multichannel .irs files, such as DTS Headphone, which have individual channels. I'm used to loading standard .irs files into Viper on my Xperia, but I've not come across multichannel files?

Oh. Those are just for fun if in V4A. I usually use those IRS to mix tracks in DAW. But I think it's worth sharing so I put them here. If you want the channel to be in the center, set cross-channel to max
Added Vitamin Sonic Enhancer and updated Soundstage Expander to Phantom Room VPT. Tell me what you guys think
Alright! New IRS! Extreme Bass (deep and heavy bass - turn volume down before using).
And, the high fidelity Audio Boost. Powerful bass, clear vocals, and high clarity... Includes 2 IRS (Enhancement and Excitement) - ABOUT 3dB LOUDER. This one will turn your headphones (even the cheap ones) into a home theater. Hope you guys like it!
Great the audio boost irs files goes well with my profile.

Thanks! More IRS are coming!
New IRS again! Studio Sound. But, oh no! The number of attachments is nearly reaching the maximum number! Older IRS will be moved to my Google Drive later... :silly:
I've cleaned up the attachments! You guys can see all of my IRS in my Google Drive folder. WAV2IRS Renamer and the latest IRS will be in attachment list...
EDIT: Hey guys! What's happening? Why I'm mostly talking to myself? Give some critics and feedback guys So I can make better IRS and make them to your liking
Added Theater Sound. I like Studio Sound more though...

BTW I see that you have an LG What is your recommendation? Any Additional setup?
Tks

Audio resampler quality in new Android builds? (with test files)

I've only recently realized that new versions of Android upsamples all the audio it plays to some high sample rate like 176.4 or 192kHz. Now, how good this sounds obviously depends on how good the resampler algorithm chosen is
Will those of you with Android 5 or above test out the following two audio files for me?
https://www.dropbox.com/s/abnqmqvlj94r5lx/44.1kHz 0.8 sweep linear.flac?dl=0
https://www.dropbox.com/s/wvgmomwrcc6yosh/48kHz 0.8 sweep linear.flac?dl=0
These are simply tone sweeps from 0 to 22 and 24kHz respectively, encoded at 44.1 and 48kHz sample rates respectively.
To test these files I would recommend using Poweramp with Direct Volume Control (in Audio->Advanced Tweaks) turned off. This way we're deferring everything to the Android audio system.
They shouldn't sound any different (apart from the 48kHz version having a few more seconds of inaudible ultrasonics at the end) on a proper system.
What you might hear instead is one of the files having warbling over/undertones going up and down, especially toward the end when the actual tone being played goes up into inaudible supersonic territory.
If you do get this kind of result, can you note down for me:
-Phone model
-Android version
-copy of build.prop file, if available--particularly the number that the key af.resampler.quality is set to, if present
-if you run Viper4Android, you can also go to its Driver Status and directly note the output sample rate being used when playing each file.
Let's push the smartphone developers to make resampling artifacts a matter of the past :cyclops:
Sony Z3TC stock kernel/rom, V4A displays system sample rate locked at 48khz, when playing 44.1khz sine sweep introduces audible warbling resampler artifacts in the 44.1khz sampled file. curiously poweramp alpha with sox resampler option doesn't seem to help at all.
Anyone else? There were reports of setting af.resampler.quality values (should be 4 for highest quality) breaking audio system in Android 5 and above. Am curious.
I think build.prop editor can be installed and run to read the value of af.resampler.quality (if exists) without root. At least that's what I found when I revoked root permissions for build.prop editor on my phone.
Hi @Joe0Bloggs
I'm using player pro as music player. The resampling settings I can find is attached below. Why device resampled is mentioned as variable quality ? Should I stick with SW resampler or change it to device resampler ?
PS: both files are playing the same

Because device resampling means handing over control of resampling to the device, in which case quality and power consumption are dependent on device and system settings.
If you want to test how the device itself is handling resampling, you should try the device resampling option while playing those two files.

Tested as you said and both files are playing the same with device resampler. (Long pause at end)
I'm using Zuk Z1 running official CM13 snapshot

Mods to improve audio?

Hello, I am testing several audio modifications (ainur, viper, doby, etc). I would like to hear your options, what mods do you use to listen to music better? Thanks and regards
I just mixed viper4a and dolby+ together and it sounds really good
me too, dolby + viper4
ainur
when do you say dolby, dolby digital +, dolby atmos?
dolby digital +
I'm using viper alone and with certain convolvers the latency is enormous. can't imagine how yall dolby + viper users deal with that
Am using viper with dolby convolvers and jet audio and sound is superb.Kernel also has sound control and is just a matter of getting viper jet and sound control in kernel set up to your preferences. The convolvers are the biggest impact on sound imo but only install viper no need for dolby as viper convolvers can handle that.
only dolby plus is enough i think.
for mp3 files i use poweramp (hi-res output selected) also.
