Shorten delay on stock keyboard - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way shorten the delay on the stock keyboard? I'm rooted.
Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean by shorten delay, if it is input or showing the keyboard itself. But you might want to try the developer option. Go to the setting menu and open "About Device". Touch "Build Version" a couple of times. The Developer Option will now be accessible in your settings menu. There's a setting to enable/disable animation and others, set them to "0".

I meant the long press delay; the time you hold down a keyboard key to get the secondary key.

Wouldn't shortening the delay cause more mispresses? You would potentially accidentally trigger the long press when you didn't meant to.

[Q] Disable Double Tapping the Home Button

Before anyone asks, yes I did search this topic on the forums Is there any way to disable the action of double tapping the home button?

Oh, I'm sorry. If you have ti backup, try making the double tap home point to something you dont use like news, then freeze that app in ti.
Someone posted a way to make double tap home do anything you want by editting build.prop. Maybe you can tweak that to get it to do nothing.
Piece of cake!
How to do this, on froyo.
1) Download SQLite editor free from market.
2) Open it, and scroll down to the Storage Settings(the last one with: com.motorola.android.providers.settings) -> settings.db -> settings
4) Scroll down to double_tap(3rd from the end), edit record and change the value to empty!
100% tested/working!

select input method in jellybean?

stupid question,
In previous versions of android, I could long press a text field to bring up the "select input method" box to quickly switch between keyboards installed on the device without having to leave the app I was in.
I don't seem able to do that in JellyBean?
I have Swiftkey 3 Tablet installed if that makes any difference.
Am I missing something obvious?
bring up the kb and long press space on stock kb
thanks, that's great,
but what I really want to do is switch from Swiftkey 3 Tablet to another input method like the handwriting input that comes with "7notes".
the more input methods you select in 'settings>language and input' the more options should appear to switch between. Or, is that not appearing using swiftkey?
long pressing space in swiftkey doesnt seem to do anything.
I have ticked boxes next to "swiftkey", "google voice typing" and "7notes mazec" in language and input settings.
The only way i have found to use the mazec one is to set it as default input method, but then I have to go back into settings
after I have used it to set swiftkey back as default.
When tap on text entry box a little keyboard icon should appear in notification bar. Swipe down and you should see option to change input method

I miss gingerbread app selection inerface...

when clicking a link that opens an app since ICS always requires 2 touches, touch the app then touch 'always' or 'just once' I much prefered the gingerbread style of just touching the app, clicking the checkbox if you wanted to make it the default.
Is there any way to get that old app selection interface in kitkat?
Highly unlikely, Development usually moves forward, not backwards

If you double-tap the app it'll start it as if you tapped Just Once. Quicker than tapping the app then tapping the "Always" or "Just Once" buttons.

And in Kit Kat, the picker will remember the app you have previously used and it will be "pre-selected" so that if you tap it once it will open with that app as if you have picked "Just Once". You will only need to tap twice if you're picking a different app.

Why is the Verizon stock keyboard missing key function

I know about Swiftkey and Swype -among others, but looking for answer to stock keyboard question.
On other carriers it seems you can turn the settings cog to the comma (which I use a ton).
On Verizon note3 keyboard you cannot turn that to comma.. Option simply not there. So frustrating!
Also, why the hell don't they allow long press interval shortening

Tip: Disable "Select input method" in notification area

I noticed after selecting Google keyboard as default keyboard and disabling "Show app icon" in Advanced settings for Google keyboard, the "Select input method" notification icon is still visible.
I figured out that disabling the app "Swype for Honor" will make the icon disappear.
Of course. That icon let's you choose between keyboards. Disabling one will give you no choices at all.

Ya I'm aware of this. It just annoyed me so I fixed the issue.
Just might uninstall the unused keyboard and make system more snappy.

True. But Swype for Honor can't be disabled without root. I have root, but others may not. This is why I created this thread.

There is another issue: I use Swiftkey and I can not disable both huawei and google keyboard. If I do it after the first usage it will turn itself back on. The only way to turn the icon off if you use a 3rd party keyboard is when you start to type tap and hold on the notification in the notification bar. Than you can disable the notification for selecting keyboard. Unfortunatelly what this all does that you won't see the tiny icon at the top but you will have the notification in the notification center (which basicly you won't see unless you pull down the center.). Obviously these are the options withouth root with it you can do whatever you want

I can absolutely understand your opinion and sooner or later I will do it as well but I just wanted to leave a kind of solution for those who does not want to do it yet

That's not my experience. I've uninstalled all keyboards and replaced them with a updated Swipe and it really feels quicker to launch keyboard.
Other way to do it is to clean data, stop app, then disable it. It might ask if we want to uninstall updates and that's a yes.
