Hi all. I've just been wondering... has anyone else besides me ran into countless problems using the Nexus Launcher/Launcher2 on their phone? I'm running Fresh 2.0d with the included .apk, and here are some bugs I've found:
Unresponsiveness
Screen turns black and stays black requiring a battery pull
Launcher will launch without displaying icons in the menu
Now, it is not only Flipz's ROM that has these problems either... it is EVERY ROM I've tried. I'm sure most of you will tell me to use Helix Launcher. I have tried it, but it doesn't have the same feel that the Nexus Launcher has.
Has anyone found a fix for these stability issues? If not, I'd like to start a project so we can get this working, because I'm sure it's completely possible. After all, Flipz was able to get the 2.1 lockscreen working!

I am running fresh2.0d and stock screen turns black and needs battery pull when I use camera app and hit back button or any button.
Launcher has been pretty responsive except here and there....
I do get to the mode where no icons on home screen for few seconds at times but it recovers pretty soon....
As far as the lock screen, I ran in to an issue while my corporate policy forced me to assign lock/unlock password! Soon I enable password and lock, phone stops responding!!! I have to either pull the battery or issue reboot command via prompt!!!
I hope this helps.... I am not a developer though....
I have been disappointed by the nexus launcher's performance as well.
The black screen requiring a reboot (or if you hold home and happen to have settings in the app switch menu you can force kill it and restart it) is a common occurrence with seemingly no pattern. Sometimes it after a long browsing session, other times its happens after deleting a single e-mail message and returning to the main screen. The only consistent way to make it happen is to hit back after launching camera from the app drawer.
Ive also noticed in every rom with launcher, that when coming out of the launch screen the app shortcuts and widgets on the home screen don't load instantly. Almost as if the launcher was killed while it was asleep and when unlocking it, it is reloaded.
It's disappointing because as you said, while helixlauncher is an OK alternative, nothing else has quite the same feel as nexus launcher. Unfortunately I think it will take a good bit of modification to make it a perfect match with the hero and I have absolutely 0 idea where to even begin .
Flipz, if you ever read this, could you offer some insight on this? You've worked your magic on the 2.1 lockscreen
The only rom i had it running great on was Darchlegend v4.1 i think it was, i finally said forget it and started using helix
Every one i have tried has been buggy as well. Things mught improve once we get the hero 2.1 source. Or once google decouples them.

Time TO rock 'n roll
Ok now i want to use this thread to have a discussion about what should be improved for the galaxy s III users by the software side.
I say
Quality audio in the video recording
Brightness
LED Rgb(colored)
Audio (on listening) with Noise-OFF option ON in the call settings
Scrolling Live/Static Wallpaper UI doesn't change
Anything else?

Reports say that the 'double tap' the top to scroll back up the contacts list...only works on the contacts list. So, hopefully...our devs can make it universal on any screen that needs to be scrolled. Also, maybe a 'double tap on the bottom' as well. (maybe the double tap on the bottom can take us back to the previous screen position)

A way to swap the menu and recent apps key assignments. I'd rather do the left key for recent apps and hold the home key for menu. Also stock ICS theme with all Touchwiz features
- Reduce home button delay - edit: just found out you can decrease delay by going into s-voice settings and disabling double click home shortcut.
- Improve lock screen wake up speed
- 5 instead of 4 lock screen shortcuts (e.g. i'd like to be able to have phone, messaging, email, internet, camera)
- scrolling wallpaper would be cute
- prevent flashing white notification led when phone is charged? or was it for something else? This actually woke me up last night and wouldnt stop until i pulled the power cable.
- ability to swap icons around on the launcher when the grid is full. Is it just me, am I being stupid? because when a launcher page is full, I can't move icons around anymore. I can move icons into folders, but when I drag an icon over another one, they refuse to swap places. Is this normal touchwiz behaviour? if it is, it's going to make organising my home screen severely annoying!
I'm such a dork, I got super excited that someone besides me said scrolling wallpaper. lol

That white LED woke me up too, its way too bright.
I solved most of the other problems by installing NOVA launcher though, phone wake up is instant, home button twice as fast (but generally still slow) and no issues with full icon grids

Yeh, a flashing bright white led is a strange choice. A dim green one would have made more sense.
Might try another launcher then. Do apex and nova have lock screen shortcuts?

NOVA uses the touchwiz lockscreen from what i can tell, so shortcuts are there.
I have actually removed the lockscreen entirely, the phone wakes up much faster.
As for security, I use an app that uses face unlock only when you try to get to settings, play store or any other app you choose. This way I can access my phone quickly for usual things but have the security where i need it.
I'd quite like the ability the rearrange the controls in the notification menu.

How can you customize the lock screen shortcuts? Thanks

1. Auto light level is too low and too slow.
2.RGB LED too light and turn on time is too short.

What can be improved:
- Get rid of the horrible sharpening that creates ugly halos around text on non white backgrounds. (it is software as using power-save L1 in browser eliminates the sharpening)
- Remove a little of the pink tint in color temperature
- Reduce the millions of always running (unquitable) services running to a minimum so that home screen restarts and browser out of memory are less of an issue.
- Make the home launcher system persistent
- Remove the unnecessary animations that slows down the speed of waking up the screen and returning to home screen.
- In browser add ability to access tabs and url bar by tapping menu when in full screen mode.
- Add text reflow to browser similar to htc. The default fit to screen option butchers the look of the webpage overview.
- Add the option to choose between LQ, HQ or HD in youtube app.
I'm experiencing some serious lag with my Bell Mobility samsung s4 at times. For example:
- sometimes when I go to open the phone application, the screen will go black for literally 2-3 seconds before the phone screen will actually appear, same applies to gallery, contacts, messaging
- when I open my folders the animation of the app icon scatterings out is sometimes very choppy and slow to load as well
- on the lock screen, the time sometimes lags for about 2-3 seconds before updating to the most recent time
I'm actually running less apps than I did on my S3, I only have one page with no widgets on it other than a HTC sense clock widget, I've also got a 16gb expandable sd card in their. I have most of the functions off with the exception of air view, aire gesture and power saving.
Anyone have any ideas as to why my s4 is running so slow?

Well its should not create this much of issue try finding if any partticular app is causing any issue
1,
U can try clearing all apps from task manger and also clear ram and reboot most issue should be solved
2,
check if there is any update on ur cell from about device - software update
3, if nothing works try a factory reset completly
I also had those shamy lags, and then I installed Nova Launcher... Amazing how Samsung can cripple such a powerful device with such a crappy interface !
When I turn the screen on, sometimes but not all the time, the screen turns on but the text at the bottom where it says swipe to unlock and Verizon wireless is not present and the screen is unresponsive but after a few seconds it appears and I can then unlock my device. I feel like I just keep having issues haha.
Happens on mine as well, but only for a second or so it seems. I tried turning the watercolor effect off to none but it still did it, I think its just the crappy samsung lockscreen wish I could get the stock AOSP one on there.

haha me too man it's probably because i'm so used to my rooted Note 2 where I fixed all these laggy issues. Damn Samsung needs to polish touchwiz badly. Thanks for responding again btw.
Happens to me too! very annoying because i have to swipe to unlock twice
I do use dashclock on my lockscreen
Well I ended up freezing the stock samsung clock with Titanium and taking the stock clock from 4.3 off my Galaxy Nexus and putting it in system/app and changed the permissions to match, its a little smaller I think because of the high resolution but it doesn't seem to lag out like the stock one did better than it was
Touchwiz is composed of lag. Every time I turn on or off my screen I am reminded. It helps if you are constantly using the task manager and clearing ram while closing apps but this should not be a necessity for the OS to run smoothly.
I may just have to become a de-hack-loper to get this unlocked bootloader going however even then knox is watching us.

FYI that clock is chronus in the play store for people that arent rooted
Chronus looks much better perfect size. Now if only I could get the cyanogen lock and shortcuts close enough
My problem is with kitkat lockscreen, maybe you noticed or not but kitkat slide to unlock effect introducing some lag to notification bar. when you unlock your screen, try to lower down notification bar it lags like hell. If you wait for the slide animation is finished lag disappears, also if you touch that unlock ring notification bar lags again. I tried several roms based on 4.4 but same lag is still there, only thing to avoid is using 4.3 roms, which is a downgrade. So I want to ask is there a way to extract 4.3 or some other slide to unlock screen and flash it to 4.4 stock rooted phone?(using lock screen apps are not good enough and they do not look good)
thanks in advance.
I don't think it's a lag. I think it was made that way on purpose. By the way, I do not experience lag but when I touch the ring, I can't pull the status bar. The same when I lower or touch the status bar, I can't slide the lockring. It just won't work simultaneously. So, my opinion is that it was purposely made to behave like that. It's either you slide to unlock then pull your notification or pull your notification and it will go straight into that particular app. I always do the latter.

I didn't mean simultaneously when you just touch (or tap) the ring or just after screen is powered, some animation starts(ring expands or something like that) so that animation makes notification bar stutter or lag, you can try it by just after you push power button to turn on the screen and then try to lower notification bar you can see bar stutters(after animation stops, it works normal).

I see yeah, you're right. It stutters a bit. Try using art runtime then, maybe it helps reduce it (read it somewhere before but didn't try it).

İm using xposed so art is not really option but i tried it and unfortunately no it do not effect this bug much, only way i see is to change slide option to something else or changing lockscreen itself(if it is possible of course) but thanks anyway.
