Just saw it on Twitter. Metal body removable 3000 mah battery 801 and 2 gb RAM

Man, I hope not. And, yes, I'm serious. Plastic is a better material for a phone. Doesn't dent, better reception, lighter...
I don't mind the metal body actually. Pretty neat.

Interesting
Thats pretty interesting because if this is a metal body then where will the antennas go for reception. for example on the htc m8 and m7 the had plastic lines on the back so they could put the antennas but this phone doesnt have any? hmmm very interesting.

yeah that could be, the power button does look like it will be aluminum as well but we shall see i dont think there that ignorant lol
I prefer plastic if it's gonna be lighter. Polycarbonate is still more durable than metals imho.
However, I hope we don't have glossy finishings on the G3.
Anyways, the post says 2GB RAM, which we all know is untrue. How to trust that twitter post?

well i believe it is true there are going to be two different varients a 2gb and 3gb
Also says light and the weight of the phone is accommodates identical to gs5

Well yea.. our local SG site also reported this, taken from a dutch site (prolly the same)
http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/tech-news-lgs-website-reveals-full-specs-and-photos-g3-smartphone
Hopefully they do have 2 variants running concurrently.. as 3GB would be a nice upgrade.
Also, metallic cover and wireless charging don't go together. I wonder how it works here...
From metal might be the phone frame that supports all the component, just like Xperia Z1 and Z2 and not the whole body like HTC One. I bet the silver frame we can see in the pictures is the metal they are talking about.

About how thick is the g2 going to be in comparison to the nexus one and g1? already know its like 5 mm thicker than iphone 4.
Id say about a quarter more than the nexus, think of it like the back is as thick as the camera bubble.
barely thinner then the slide

Yes, is not much thicker in absolute numbers, but it feels - for me thinkness matters.
Reporters say it's actually not that thick. It looked a little thick to me. I'd rather take a phone with excellent build quality and a little bulk over a thin phone made of plastic.
looked kind of chunky in the vid but i guess time will tell.
According to the dimensions on HTC's website, the G2 is about 3mm thinner than the G1. That seems really great for a QWERTY phone, if you ask me.
EDIT: Here are the actual numbers for thickness:
G1/Dream: 17.1mm
Nexus One: 11.5mm
G2: 14.1mm

guess its pretty thin for an slider but i'm definitely not going to put a case on it. maybe an BSE but not a hard case. thank goodness its thinner that the g1.

For comparison, here are thickness numbers for a few other QWERTY slider phones:
Touch Pro 2: 17.8mm
G1: 17.1mm
Samsung Moment: 16mm
Motorola Cliq: 15.6mm
Motorola Backflip: 15.3mm
MyTouch Slide: 15.2mm
G2: 14.1mm
Samsung Epic: 14mm
Motorola Droid: 13.7mm
So the G2 is just a hair thicker than the original Droid, which was a very thin phone, considering it had a full keyboard. These numbers kind of make the G1 look like a brick, don't they? I never thought of mine as that thick until I look at these numbers all side by side.

aluminum isnt the most durable material in the world. it tends to dent pretty easy from a fall so a case could help that.
time will tell if it needs a case, but because of the interesting "slider" cases could be hard to come by, t-mo plans on having a few cases on hand but i don't usually like the cases they have, i will probably ghost armor this phone like i did my slide(although this one will get it right away)
i thought only part of the back was brushed aluminum. it also dents and scratches pretty easily hence the possible need for a bse? anyway slider cases suck. a lot. pretty thick as well and i want this phone to fit in my pocket.

ghost armor any good? always heard people going with bse given its relatively low cost and decent preformance.
I like it, had it done on the mytouch, and my mytouch slide, it's a little thick so most cases don't fit right if you do the whole phone, but deffinately is scratch-proof. I pay 25 for it and with the lifetime warranty it's worth it in my mind.
I will say though that if you are a fan of swype then you will have to get used to the material on the screen for a bit as it doesn't feel quite as nice as the screen does but that's the price to pay for protection in my book.

Thanks, just what I wanted to know.
I am pretty sure that the sides are plastic. The back is also plastic and I am not to sure that I like that texture. Overall the slider is well built and seems like it will last for some time.
I am not really concerned about the build as it seems quite good. The back is flimsy but really it is not doing anything but covering the battery and the SIM. Not as structural as some phones back covers.

Well, if they were metal, that could explain why the phone weighs 6.74 oz.
I want it to be metal heh. makes it feel like a superior product.
The build quality could be better. The phone is plastic and some of the fit is less the perfect. It's not a Nokia E series or an HTC - but I think it will stand up.
That blows. Makes me think about just going to get the LG Optimus 7. That phone definitely has awesome build quality.

I'm still going to try one, at least. I'm looking forward to the speaker and the screen mainly. Red on the HD7 looks like Orange, lol.
Between the HTC HD7/Surround, Dell venue pro, and the Samsung focus, I would rate the screens as follows:
HTC: 5.0
Dell: 8.0
Samsung: 9.0
Both the Dell/Samsung are a little blurry or grainy up close but the picture quality/contrast is so much better then LCD.
Up close and with small text is the downside of SAMOLED and AMOLED screens with the PenTile matrix. My only gripe. When resolutions go up in the future. I will be curious as to how much better it will be.

If you look closely the official windows phone blog said that it has an aluminum CHASSIS not backdoor.
there's yet another video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47Sc5IDdFjI and if you look at 2:00 it bends the backcover way too much for it to be aluminum and not retain that bend
Probably it's a plastic backcover with an aluminum film on top

Did you watch the video with your eyes open?
One side of every mobile phone made, is glass, you know, so you can see through it to the information on the display! It would be quite problematic if they placed a plastic, rubber or metal casing over the phones actual lcd display as you would not be able to interact with its touch capabilities nor would you be able to see the screen!
My post is only talking purely about the glass.
I have a z3 compact and love it. However the glass is not resilient enough.
Imagine if on the iteration of the z4 Sony used this glass, front and back, then just increased the thickness of the nylon corners by 1-2mm so that when placed flat on a surface this was the only part that touched.
Close to perfection! Naked phone all day everyday ☺
That's one chunky and ugly phone! But at least I'd trust the glass more than I do the Z3c's
Funny thing is, many people's iPhones, Xperias, Galaxies etc. end up looking just as chunky and ugly when wrapped with big ol' cases for protection

It was 5am when I watched the video. Anyways... What I meant was, Sony has one front and rear glass body, while that phone has only the front part that's made out of glass, that's why I said that the phone is similar to other phones out there. The rear of the phone you linked takes most of the impact when the phone falls. Glass can take less hits (Sony front and rear)
In the end it doesn't matter if the phone is shatterproof/breakproof/waterproof. It's proof until a certain point.
It really doesn't matter if the/a phone is made out of diamonds, it will never be indestructible.

OMG here come the clouds!
I actually get what you mean, and it would certainly be nice seeing something like that on a smartphone with 2 glass sides, but it would be really expensive. The off-contract price for Z3 Compact is already $500+, if both sides had a sapphire glass it would cost $700 or most likely more (especially since Sony does not produce their own sapphire glass). And the sapphire glass, while scratch-proof, can still break during certain impacts, as the video has shown. I'd rather see Sony use a better quality glass - not a sapphire but something which doesn't crack during normal usage, like some Z3C's currently do
This thread is pointless.
A Phone with sapphire front and backpanel, as thin as the Z3, would be way more prone to cracking. While sapphire is much more scratch resistant it's also more brittle. Harder = more brittle. So what exactly is the point of this thread?
A bulky phone with a rugged design and built in bumper is stronger than a thin phone without all these rugged reinforcements? Who could have expected that? :cyclops:
Thanks, exactly what I just wanted to say. And the fact that the phone is so bulky is one reason they can use sapphire glass at all.
Apple invested hundreds of millions of dollars in sapphire, and still the iPhone 6 doesn't use it. Guess why.

Sorry to bring some rays of bright, ambitious, product design ideas to the forum!
The whole idea of my thread was to highlight the possibility of better glass for Sony. I for one am not so concerned about shock/impact resilence as I have never been so clumsy as to drop a phone. However to have a screen that remains scratch free for its intended life span? Well I would pay an extra $50 for that! Additionally like I said, if they redesigned the phone frame/bumper most of the shock due to a drop would not transmit to the screen.
In closing, it's hilarious how those of you who posted negative , inflammatory comments on the pointlessness of this thread.
It was obviously meaningful enough for you to waste your petty time, energy and minds on!

Good day to you sir ☺
Any type of Sapphire screen would have made the Z3 thicker. Additionally it would have required a total redesign to compensate for the sapphire brittleness.
So again, what is your point? A mistery phone from Sony designed around a sapphire screen? Then this thread should go in the general Sony section.
OP's too butthurt to listen to actual arguments I'm afraid.

Hi y'all.. Bought the lg g6 recently. So far loving it. I like how the phone is entirely scratch resistant however I just noticed that the material covering the flash is plastic. I saw a deep scratch and had no idea how it got there given that I've had the phone in a mil grade case ever since opening he package. I put my finger on the flash and the scratches got even worse. I'm considering returning the phone because of this, has anyone run into this??

Really?? You're going to return a phone because of the material that was used to cover the LED camera flash?? What impact is a scratch on the plastic of your LED flash going to have on your photos?
I'm pretty sure the majority of phones out now use plastic for the flash. If you're considering returning it because of that then you should just get an iPhone. The plastic will refract the light regardless of whether there's scratches or not.

ok this might be a game changer for me then lol - I chose LG G6 over the S8 because the G6 has a flat screen (I hate the curved screens because of the lack of screen protectors) - however I can't stand that a premium phone like the G6 opted for plastic to cover the flash, unacceptable.

I will grant you that the phone probably picks up scratches easier than it should. I imagine LG was trying to save money by not going with Gorilla Glass 5 all the way around and sapphire crystal for the camera cover. But all these hardness ratings and scratch tests exist because ALL phones scratch and chip... some more than others. You're gonna have to pay however many thousands of dollars Apple was going to charge people for a sapphire crystal-encased phone before they scrapped that idea to get something that will really stand up to scratches and "hairline fractures."
