I should have never taken the Kitkat update. Yeah, I read all the things about third party apps not being able to save to SD card but I didn't think that would effect the stock apps and the way things normally occur. So.. Here's my biggest problem which has me extremely pissed after attending EDC NYC last night..
I use the stock camera app to record a lot of video. Unfortunately... Like NONE of it saved. I have the SD card set as storage. The pictures saved. None of the video I recorded last night saved. Sometimes it looked like it did, then it wouldn't play. Or I'd get the corrupted icon. I look this morning, nothing there. Thankfully I also brought a REAL digital camera and used it sometimes, but.. All the good video I used my crappy Note 3(showing my rage). What is wrong and how do I fix this? Why wouldn't the stock camera video app keeps my videos?
Another weird problem I have and I can't seem to figure out why it's happening. Many times when I go into settings, my ringer volume and everything drops and goes into complete silence. Like I had manually reduced the ringer sound fromt he side button which I didn't. Then I have to jack it back up.
Also, some apps now have a tendency to save to the SD card right from the Google Play. Only thing is, they save to SD card and are not able to be run. They crash instantly and say they have stopped... You then can't move them from SD card to internal memory either cause they crash then as well.. You uninstall them, they install again on SD card when u try to reinstall and same problem. Only way to get them to install to internal memory and be able to run is to remove the SD card, install them when there is no SD card in phone, then reinstall SD card and they will then run from internal memory cause they weren't installed on SD card. Is there a setting that somehow got switched to install to SD card instead of internal by default? Seriously... Kitkat has made my once joy to use Note 3 complete sadness...
All this badness happened since I got Kitkat. I'm not rooted either. I should have rooted before I guess but.. Ugh.. Is there a root method now if we took the OTA update? TY in advance!

No root yet for kitkat, that's why I kept bypassing update on mine until I got root up. Now on KitKat with SD Card Fix(which you need root for) and all is well. Unfortunately Kitkat has drastically changed what Apps can and can't do with the same permissions they hat on JB. Honestly I agree this is the dumbest thing I've ever seen, but I guess they were sick of the malware and poorly written apps blowing away other apps data or stealing it. It's too bad they had to go the apple route.
Short of returning and demanding a JB phone, Only advice is be patient and hope someone figures out how to root, or find apps that properly work with Kit Kat SD Card settings.

The main problem right now is the video recordings. I can't record anything beyond like 15 seconds with Instagram. If I use the camera's video recorder I see it recording, but when I stop it, he recording becomes corrupted and is unplayable. An idea what is causing this? Would reformatting the SD card work? The thing is this is the stock camera app. It shouldnt have any prob recording stuff to SD. The picture record. It's just the videos that are screwing up

Change the camera storage to Phone and and see if that works, if so, then it sounds like your card has an issue, or the App has issues accessing it properly. I would start by reformatting the card, if that doesn't work then maybe you need a hard reset.
1+ for EDC NYC haha

Indeed,
I lost 7Gb aprox of very valuable stuff, like source code, documentation, photos, charts, music, software, video, backups, and so on..
I think i may found the pattern (kind of) because after the first corrupted memory it happend to me seeeeeveral times...
Its like if i start an app (lets say a game) that uses a lot of resources, the game is laggy and somehow it closes OR you use another app on the same time that is installed on the SD, like they crash by sharing some kind of resource... im not quite sure but at least two times after "playing" (i quote it because its mega laggy) i saw my Program Files folder EMPTY...
At least this time it doesnt f*** the whole card..
i wonder why OP hasnt posted a single good thing bout x2
i owe it and im quite satisfied with it it hass some things that need to be fixed but otherwise i like it
the only problem i have with it is that loses the sd card sometimes but as i read its the card problem (default one that came with it) its class2 (cheap $#"$#!%%&Z&#&"%%""% provider)
indycar: You are terrible wrong! The card problem issue is the X2 problem NOT card! I try a lot of cards (differents manufacturer, size, class). The point is, that X2 automatically turn off card when you stand by device and it turn on when you wake up X2 again. I´m thinking, that this should be a "feature" to increase power managing capabilities...

Well I wrote many good things about it before.
With a decent firmware it'a decent device and the best choice!!!!!!
But current firmware is a massacre confirmed by all users so no reason for good words....
The memory card problem is completely independent from the card, happened to me with both cards!!!
Another victim of memory card corruption. the whole content of the memory card just dissappear like*poof*. and the symtoms looks the same. system became incredably laggy all of the sudden. reboot the device and "watch your past disappear" (adapted from STFirst Contact when Borg Queen says "Watch your future ends")...
Ben
the weird thing about my card is that only SOME things disappeared, i had several folders on my card little by little they disappeared but the files that werent in folders stayed and never got deleted, thought the card itself did not gain/lose any memory.
my card is fine .. nothing happened
You corrupted people should try some file recovery software to recover your card content. There are plenty of free recovery programs on the internet. You'd have to stick your card into your computer and run the software on the disk. Report back if you get it to work because if could help others.

Most of my content was backed up so I will not hassle with this.
However I would love to know how to eventually format the card to
to not to slow it down...
This whole X2 case reminds me of N97 when it was introduced. Truly 'spooky' phone
My card is also from today one of those who messes up. My files does not get deleted but when browsing the card from the phone it sometimes contains perhaps two out of the folders, sometimes the files is there (i guess) but folder and file names seams renamed. A look at the card on my computer shows every file/folder/file name intact.
Guys,
You who had the SD-card corrupted, did you install any applications on it that you use frequently?

As you might have read, my card only looked corrupted in the phone file explorer but yes, I installed every application on the card. Most used is S2P and Pocket player and of course all my music used by the apps mentioned.
If running S2P listening to music, the app suddenly halts. I then shuts S2P down and starts file explorer to see what happened the card looks partially deleted or all folder and file names corrupted (mounting the card on PC shows no errors at all).
In the beginning I had Outlook save incoming mail on card but as the card disconnects outlook creates a folder, Storage Card in root of phone. That creates a problem when the phone mounts the card again since it gets named Storage Card2 instead. That messes up all short cuts created by me or phone to the applications installed at the card.
I use card pre packed with phone and I see no reason to try another since others here reports no difference when replacing card.

The moment my card got corrputed
I quit using X2 completely.
I've seen no sense in further struggling and
I also have no time for that.
Why the question?
MR2 also screws it?!
TLDR: Don't install programs or attachments on your storage card.
I am now 100% certain that power management is behind the disappearing storage card issue, and is a culprit in a number of other bugs. It looks like when you put the device into standby, it switches off power to a number of components.
It's easy to see what happens with the storage card if you use SPB Mobile Shell. There's a handy shortcut under Tools - Browse Files - Storage Card. If you put that shortcut on your home screen and come out of standby, you'll usually see the icon return to the default unassigned shortcut. After anywhere between a fraction of and many seconds, the SD card icon will reappear.
Seems like some genius engineer at Foxconn, not knowing much about WinMo or stuff in general thought he was being very clever by saving what, 10mA? in shutting it off. Think of all those extra minutes of standby time saved.
I too suffered from a corrupted FAT, but thankfully all I really lost was MP3s I already had elsewhere. Since I figured out what's going on, I've had no trouble whatsoever. It does of course mean that I've had to make yet more compromises in the functionality of the device. The key is to make sure not to install programs on the storage card, or if you must, make sure the phone doesn't go into standby while running them. Also, don't choose to store email and MMS attachments on the card, or you'll get the Storage Card2 problem.
Stupid power management also explains these other things that have been bothering me, and many of you:
Notification sounds and lights not working properly.
Sporadic checking of email.
Custom ringtones disappearing (Hint: put them on main memory).
The phone randomly freezing when trying to work with Bluetooth car kits.
Presumably Sony engineers are aware of this, because if they aren't, God help us. I'm guessing that power management is such a low level issue that it's very difficult to fix with firmware if at all. That being the case, I'm not confident this phone will ever work properly and has most likely sounded the death knell for me for both Sony Ericsson and WinMo.
@bedlam_au
You may be right about power management.
That may be the answer.
Before my card corruption when I was entering SlideView
I always saw it REFRESHING media content,
like looking for it again and again....
have you tried it?
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Suspend]
"shc1:"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Resuming]
"shc1:"=dword:00000000
We have been testing it with my friend for a while (since 24th of april) and he hasn't got any storage card problems after applying this *.reg. He had them every time before that.
@ultrashot: I think you've done it! Changed those keys and didn't even need to soft reset. I've been checking all day and haven't seen the storage card disappear once. Presumably it's going to stay that way.
Does someone feel like making up a cab for this? It'd make many people's day.
bedlam_au,
Well the same day i got my nexus, after taking few pictures, my camera basicly died, started to give errors or restarts the phone, then it was unable to get on at all.
I did factory reset number of times, nothing happened. I thought it's something hardware and forgot about my camera for a while, just to find today that it works again. I took lots of pictures without any problems, shot some video too.
Later in the day when i decided to try it again, it was giving the same error again as day 1 ("The camera application is not responding" and you can force kill it, then if go to the camera again, it says that it couldnt connect to the camera).
So seems like it's something software related since its randomly working, but if factory reset isn't helping, then what it might be that can be fixed softwarely?
I'm rooted now. Still the stock rom.
p.s.
the phone also restarts when i mount the SD card and start copying lots of files and randomly restarts at other occasions too, without any obvious reasons, even when just sitting.
Other than that the phone is great
hopefully its all software that can be fixed though!
Sounds to me like there's something buggy on ya SD card. Id reformat the SD card if ya haven't already and run it empty for a bit to see if the problem persists... I think the most forgotten fix for things if they haven't figured it out is SD card, a lot of issues can come from the SD card, not saying ievery issue is the SD card, but ya be surprised how a card can wack phone out.
Sounds to me like its when your phones accessing the SD card...
yeah makes sense but
i've formatted it many times, and the camera doesnt work even without it (doesnt even start)
btw it's not the original card, but my old one from my HTC HD
the camera is supposed to work and without a SD card inserted right?

I meant keep card in it, just empty without files, formatted and see what happens
i've tried that, doesnt help
Hi,
try formatting SD card with Panasonic SD Formatting Tool,it writes back the partition table and could help. For me worked, I had an issue with gallery, surely related to SD card, and now works well.
Bye
what settings to use to format it?
what fat, cluster size?
i've formated it bunch of times with the windows vista tool, fat32 and the default cluster size (i think) but it didnt help.
And if i recall correctly it was crashing the camera and with SD card out of the phone
yeah just tried again
even with the card out, none of the camera using applications starts, including the camera, barcode scanner and 3d compass
the later 2 dont even take pictures, so they dont need the sd card at all and still they dont work
what else it might be? im getting some other applications crashes from time to time, seems that my phone isnt very stable. And it's stock...huh
I suggest sending it back for repair/replacement. Could very possibly be the result of bad blocks in ram.
You mentioned it isn't the original SD card the phone came with. Why don't you try the original card then, and see if it is the actual card, or the phone that is the problem.

i would have done that long time ago if i had it, this is the only card i have handy at the moment
but it makes the same problem with the card pulled out, so it isn't the card for sure
do u tihnk that there is any chance reflashing the rom would fix it?
any records of factory roms being buggy for just particular devices?
Okay...first off you said it's an older card, you could have bad sectors on your card, some of the older cards only have a read/write cycle of a couple thousand before fail. Second you can't run the camera app without the sd card. Third formatting the card so many times helps you count down those read/write cycles on your card. I'd be pretty confident in saying that your problems would go away after getting a new card. Hope this helped

But what do u get you when you try to start the camera app with SD card out
Does it hangs and crashes and you need to force kill it or?
yup....just tried it, i popped my card out rebooted and started camera app, and i got a force close with no option to wait
that's great man! It means that it could actually be from the stupid card!
thank you so much!

m? hows that supposed to help?
Well i tried with 2 different cards, it still gives the very same problem
it isnt the card
im with froyo now, and that doesnt fix it either
do you think if the cyanogen rom may change something about this?
has this ever happened to anyone? not sure if its coincidence or not, but i installed the new unstableapps overclock app and it was running at 1.3 fine, was playing a game, it froze, rebooted, then the message pops up in my notification bar that my sd card was damaged and i had to format it. not a huge deal but i lost some pics of my kids on their first field trip in preschool so that sucks. my pc wouldn't even recognize it... just wondering if anyone had any input on this?
I've been stressing my phone while OC'd playing games as well. It occasionally freezes on me, but I've never had a data corruption. I don't have any apps on my SD card, though. Was the game on your card?
Just noticed your post as I just created a thread about my SD Card doing the exact same thing today. I was just taking pictures of my kids when the Camera app Crashed. Restarted my phone and Got the same error about SD card needing to be formated. Running Stock 2.2. I'm not going to format the card until I know for sure the data is gone as I too have pictures on it I need.
yeah i think the game was installed on the card. i think i had the overclock too high. its stable at 1.2 but any higher i get force closes playing that game... maybe i'll try to move it and see what happens...
My SD Card crapped out withing the first week. I hadn't had time to root the phone or overclock it. Verizon replaced it. I think some of the SD cards are defective. This post will remind me to copy the contents of my SD card to my computer in case something like this happens again. I have most of my apps running from the SD card.
If a file is open on your SD card when an app or the phone crashes it will leave the file corrupt on the card. This will throw errors when you're trying to use the card in the phone. You should try making a backup on your PC of the SD card, then poke around on the SD card for the potentially corrupt file. If you can manage to delete it you should be fine.
Hi everyone,
I'm in a spot of bother, and really hoping someone can help to give some advice. This is my first Android phone, as you can probably guess, and I've been noticing some issues.
1) The first thing was the Martket not downloading, however after following some advice on forums it seems to be working okay now.
2) Today I've noticed that some applications are crashing. It's not the same ones, so far it's happened with Market, the internet browser, even some battery gauge which I installed. I don't have a note of the exact error message, but it always says it's encountered a problem with 'com.android.......' and needs to close, and then I have to click force close.
3) It's asked me to download an OTA update for the phone, but I've read mixed reactions on it. I don't have any issues with the proximity sensor, but I've read a few people have had the problem arise SINCE they installed the update. Would you recommend that I install it, or leave it?
4) The main issue that's concerning me at the moment is an issue with the memory card. I've had a few occasions where it's come up saying 'memory card unexpectedly removed'. I've checked the cover to make sure it's on and the memory card was in. At first, removing it and reinserting it, or restarting the phone fixed it. However, this evening it's not. If I put the memory card in the phone, it says it's preparing it, and whenever I access anything that needs the memory card, such as the camera, it comes up saying it's been removed.
I've tried the card that come with the phone, and that seems to work. However, I'm worried for two reasons a) I need to copy all my pics, music, etc from my old memory card to the new one that come with the phone, and I'm worried in case it might be something on there that has interferred with it. b) I'm worried that the phone might have damaged the memory card in some way, as I now can't even get my PC to access it.
If anyone has any suggestions or advice, I'd really appreciate it.
I have read similar problems with people changing the SD card before first use. It seems there are some system files on the SD. I recommend copying all data from the original SD card to the new one and then checking to see if you have the same problem.
I have updated my DHD over the air and it works fine
Model: SCH-I545
64gig SD Card
Verizon
All stock/no root
Verizon pretty much forced me recently like many others to update to Lollipop. Once updated, I immediately backed up and did a factory reset on the device. Once it was back up and running, all seemed to be well with the world. It did seem to be a little hotter than normal but it seems overheating is a typical problem these days.
I noticed the issue the following day when I went to load videos and pictures back on to my SD card. They were uploaded via USB just fine but they showed as corrupted in Gallery.
I started trying to take pictures and maybe 1 out of 5 would actually show up. I thought it might be Gallery so I switched to Photos. Same thing. Tried using other cameras with the same results. I ended up factory resetting a second time and formatting the SD Card again as well but no fix. Then the other night I noticed that two of my apps have that "we're broken" icon on them and that they were installed on the SD Card so the issue seem to be connected with that, yet the SD Card works fine. I can plug it in the computer and use it without any issue but when it comes to the camera storing photos or video on it or apps using it, it refuses to work.
Tried contacting Samsung about it but they are useless when it comes to support it would seem so a friend told me to try posting here and maybe someone would have an idea of what is going on.
Thanks, guys.
