Do any of you use Google maps connected to your car via BT? When I use it, my maps voice navigation works over the speakers when it's connected as media device. Like if I'm playing Google music, the nav commands come over the stereo system. But when I'm listening to regular radio, the directions come over very low and faint.
Has anyone come across this?

So during the summer I was bored and ended up trying an iPhone 5 for 2 weeks. One of the things I did like about it was that it would give me the Google Maps navigation voice over the bluetooth in my car. I can't however get that to replicate over to my G2.
Calls on my G2 use my car's bluetooth just fine, but I can't get turn by turn directions over it.
Any ideas?
This better not be normal, because I really want the g2 and I use the **** outta GPS on BT.

Works fine on mine using my Jawbone ERA with Waze. As long as your headset supports "Media audio" (as it appears in the G2 settings) or A2DP, it should work. It may also be dependent on the how the particular nav apps handles audio - I find Waze superior to GMaps anyway.
Works for me over BT, with the random half voice slip on both because of BT sleep. Not often enough be annoying though.
Works fine, if listen music from stock music player or google music or rdio... Alone not working...
I've read multiple issues with Bluetooth and cars, but I haven't seen anything around the Amazon Music app.
When I use the Amazon Music app, the display in my car shows the Google music song on deck.
Also, controls via my android wear watch show the song in Amazon Music. However if I press to play or pause it activates the Google music song on deck.
I assume this is an Amazon Music app issue, but it worked fine on my old android 6 device.

Oddly enough I have the same problems (and have since my nexus 6). The problem comes when I switch apps - amazon music, Pandora, GMMP (my mp3 player).
Im not sure if it's the way Android sends meta-data or the head unit in your car. Ha e you tried to force close the app and reload it to see if it will resend the data?
Tbh I've got myriad problems with Bluetooth atm. From dropping the connection at random to playing audio from the phone when Bluetooth is connect and media is selected under the settings. I end up having to reboot to just get the Bluetooth connection to work. Rumor has it 7.1.1 is on the way. I hope Google is addressing the reported Bluetooth issues.

I tried it in my other car, and it seems to work correctly (2013 vw working).
There must be some BT issues with compatibility.

I have a S7 Edge on Verizon. Phone connects fine to my Bluetooth in Honda Pilot, and google maps direction play through speakers when setting in car is set to Bluetooth. Is there a way to also get directions to play through car speakers when listening to AM/FM/Sirius radio when phone is paired with Bluetooth connection?

There used to be the option in the navigation settings to play through the phone speakers even when bluetooth connected, now I cant use fm radio and navigation without first disabling bluetooth.
No. However you can use a Radio app and stream through Bluetooth and still hear the feedback from Maps.

Well depending on a few things that you need on your phone if you don't already have them set up, then yes this is 100% possible and I do it on my s7 edge right now if I understand your question right. Just to clarify, are you asking if theres a way to get google maps to give you voice directions (through the car's speakers not the phone speaker) when its connected to your car's bluetooth but your listening to the car's AM/FM/Sirius which prohibits it? let me know and ill give you a potential solution if you want.

Yes - I'd appreciate it if you could give me a potential solution. Thanks.
Bluetooth stream to your car audio using Bluetooth input. Load up an AM/FM/SiriusXM App, play your desired channel, use Maps.
Not sure how you're supposed to trick your audio device into playing two different inputs simultaneously. Unless you find some kind of transmitter to can force a signal to override your radio somehow.

I'm not sure if this is a G6 problem, and Android 7 problem or a Google Maps problem, but my G6 will only play navigation sounds via my car speakers if it is connected via Bluetooth.
If I'm using my phone to play music in the car, and navigate somewhere, I want the turn notifications to be played out of the phone speakers so the music doesn't pause or dip or get interrupted. This was never an issue on any other Android phone I've owned - I could go into the settings in Google Maps and disable "Play voice over Bluetooth" so that the navigations directions did exactly that.
That option isn't available on my G6 though. I can disable the voice during phone calls, but nothing else.
How can I get this back to how it was on my old phone?
Thanks
Hi,
Coming from a Windows phone it was possible to listen to my music on my car stereo and have Near maps giving me directions.
It seems with Google Andriod I have to switch my car stereo to Bluetooth device to get voice turn by turn directions and no music.
Is this the case ? Or can I have both music and voice directions at the same time ?
cheers
On my us997 G6 I can have both. When the map gives voice guidance it pauses the music and then resumes when maps is quite.
Thanks thats good to know.
Is your setup using the car stereo for music or your phone ?
In my case the music was on in the car stereo.
cheers

As far as I know and experienced it only works with both coming from your phone to the car speakers.
Maybe depends on the car setup, but if I play music on the car with USB no audio from the phone via Bluetooth.
Aaah okay, thats the problem, and thats how Windows phone works, Car stereo music and voice navigation from the phone.
Also can Android voice text messages and can you reply to them ? Another thing I miss from Windows phone.
Hi!
I'm using Sony MEX-N5100BT bluetooth car radio. I can both listen to music and use navigation with voice directions without any problems. I'm using Spotify, when the music is playing and voice direction is played, music's volume is turned down a bit and then returns to normal value.
I have to use "Bluetooth audio" mode in the radio, then all of the Media sounds are streamed only on the radio (music, games, youtube, navigation), and all notifications and ringtones are played both on the phone from the loudspeaker and streamed to the radio at the same time.
What music player are you using?
Some of them have separate setting where when there is sound interruption from different app the music pauses for second instead of being played quieter a little bit. I had such option back in the days in PowerAMP.
About text messages and replying - I'm not 100% sure about the reading option, probably radio-dependent... AFAIR Sony's companion app for the radio has it but it works in English, not in Polish.
But I have some sort of Google Now integration in my radio, I can press the button on volume jog and Google Now launches, waiting for me to say the command, f.e. "SMS to ***"
My Car stereo is an Apline CDE-W235EBT thats what I play music on.
cheers

Maybe Windows phone uses the voice protocol for the voice directions on navigation, that's how it could interrupt your music you are playing on your car.
Android uses the media protocol for voice directions/music and the voice protocol for phone calls I think.
Is it such a big deal for you to play the music from your phone, so you would have the feature you want?
Thanks, krysden
It's more convenient to use the car stereo than the phone for music. I turn the key, engine starts, music starts and I'm on my way.
