I need to be able to disable fast dormancy on the S5. The Bahamian phone system, AFAIK, doesn't support FD. At least not during 2012/13. I asked a friend living, in Abaco, who's very knowledgeable on the subject. He's unaware of any changes on this front.
I found a reference to a hack for the S3, but I don't know if it works with the S5. Or if rooting is needed to (e.g., to hack build.prop).
Anybody got information on this issue?

The GT-9300 app should work, if it's still possible to disable it.
I use fast dormancy of gohanmoral and does fine

Thanks! As far as I can tell, the app is working. Until I connect with a carrier that doesn't support FD, I won't know for sure. Unless there's a way to verify it's working on my S5 while I'm still in the States. I can, of course, inspect the file and see the changes applied. The question is whether or not it's valid for this phone and OS rev. Ideas?

Thank you, just used this on my Galaxy S5, hope it helps.
We still haven't gotten to the Bahamas, where the fast dormancy hack is needed. If you can test the installation, and can report on the results, I want to hear how it goes.
Just switched to Verizon from Sprint & got the Samsung S5. What do you guys suggest I get for apps/accessories that are really good to go with this phone? And just any other imp info to go ?

It really just depends on what you use your phone for the apps that are a must have for me are titanium backup, soundhound, music ocean, business calendar, Facebook quick office, audio profiles just to name a few.

This is under the impression that the OP uses TR to root their phone.

True.... I believe that was the only app I included that needed root access. I should have stated that.
Are you guys on verizon with the S5? I meant just regular apps for now that do not need Root. I just got on verizon so im not sure what there rules are with rooting & if the S5 verizon can even be rooted. Also is there a way to make the audio louder & sound better on the S5 thru headphones? I used DSP manager on my old HTC worked well.

I'm on Verizon. You can run any app on Verizon that you are used to running on TMO or Sprint or AT&T. As far as rules for rooting...Verizon does not recommend you root and if you do they will not honor any warranty, regardless of whose warranty it is...not much different than any other carrier. But, that doesn't stop users from rooting because you can unroot your phone if you have to return it to Verizon...but they can still tell it's been rooting at one time or another. As far as louder audio...I'll have to pass on that, my audio is plenty loud enough.
jpcalhoun: your not rooted? Are you using an S5? Are there any tweaks for it.

I have an S5 Developer Edition. I am rooted and running a custom ROM. Nonetheless, my response to your question remains the same, you should be able to run any app on your Verizon S5 that you ran on a TMO or other carrier phone. The only exception would be an app that has been specifically developed for that carrier, and all carriers have them to include Verizon. Apps that allow you to view / access your carrier specific account information, special carrier specific ringtones etc will only run on a carrier specific phone...you get the idea. You don't have to be rooted to tweak your phone. You can download a different launcher like Apex or Nova, there are a bunch of different launchers, and you can theme your phone. But to be honest, the greatest amount of "tweaking" can only be done if you're rooted. Root by itself does nothing, it's what you do after root enables the "tweaking". With the S5 you can install Safestrap (after rooting) that will enable you to flash a custom Touchwiz based ROM if you really want to tweak your phone. Hope I haven't given you more information that you needed, LOL.
I just got a Samsung S5 through Verizon. I am wondering how useful/risky it is to root the phone. I do not have an unlimited data plan. I am looking for ways to make my phone last longer and speed it up. That's why the question of rooting came up.

There are a ton of existing threads on this subject, full of useful information.
One thing that you can readily do if rooted is debloat your phone, that is remove all of the superfluous Verizon apps. And possibly install a streamlined custom ROM. Both of which would make for a substantially faster phone.
.
And adblock!
Sent from my SM-G900F using XDA Free mobile app
And Adblock. iptables.. LogCat.. Terminal.. Xposed.. custom kernels and removing carrier bloat to name a few things that root makes easier.
.
I have seen many videos on youtube enabling them to use audio commands in Bixby. Does anyone know of this possibility, if so please share , thank you!
Anyone?

Do you want to post links to the videos you mention? That would help people see what you're trying to achieve. AFAIK Bixby is a feature built into the new Touchwiz roms post S8, I'm running the latest official Nougat on my S7E and it's not present.

Here is the video. In the comments, he states that if you are in the US running the XAA CSC, that you should be able to do it without flashing anything.

What results are you getting when you install the apks linked? Please define 'full', then hopefully you can get more help as you've clearly stated what you want to achieve and what you have done so far.

When I install all the files proved in the video, I end up with bixby and s8 launcher. Although I cannot trigger Bixby voice, I can see the cards.
Anything?

Try contacting the person who posted the video. Bixby isn't really a feature people want on XDA, most of us much prefer Assistant so you won't have much luck here especially without root.
that video post by Tamirda. one of the xda member here. and his phone is rooted. So nothing you can do on your non-rooted phone.
but who knows if this video might help you out...

Bixby Voice TURMOIL
It will be great if XDA reviews Samsung's Bixby Voice services, as they are the most annoying and started to make me sick. It is in the market for more than a year now, but Samsung doesn't know itself who has and who does not have. So far the Russian standard phones did not have this service, but recently I bought for my daughter SG S10+ Russian standard, and LO it had it, mine is SG S9+ and so far it does not have it. How to you explain this issue? I wrote to Samsung Members twice and did not get any clarifications from them. It drives me mad that with all the fame and glory Samsung has, this is a shameful issue for the company. Since SG S4 I am a faithful Samsung fan, but should I be anymore? It will be great to grill them for this.
Smart Call is a feature I love on Samsung phones.
I just picked up a dual sim S8+ last week, and I can't find where to enable it. Samsung's website says to do it through 'Caller ID and spam protection' in the Call settings, but this is not an option I have.
Is this not a feature available on the international model or did Samsung remove it from Oreo?
Smart Call is available for phones meant to be shipped to US. I don't think it would work on your phone as it's not meant to be sold in US. Samsung uses HIYA to provide the smart call service. Installing HIYA yourself should also give you pretty similar results. Personally I like TrueCaller better as it works for Individual callers also and not just Businesses as in HIYA. TrueCallers database is much more robust.

It csc related. What provider you planning to use it on?
Or if you root you can definitely activate it...

I'm using it on Rogers in Canada.
Is there an easy root for Oreo? I already have no warranty, so I don't care if I void it.

How did it go? I'm in the exact same boat but on the Telus network in Canada. I love the smart call feature and how well integrated it was, but switched to dual sim for work purposes and miss the feature so much... Please let me know if it worked out for you ... I am very new to this and have never rooted or installed a new rom but would really appreciate any help.

There was a noticeable lag from running it on stock touchwiz. It would take at lest 3 rings before it pulled in the ID
But it worked

I use rom stock, but with root, installed via odin, can I just get a custom csc with the function?
Hey guys, i'm very new to this as well and i purchased T-mobile Galaxy S8 Active thats unlocked which I use on Koodo in Canada. I would also like to have smart call back like i did on my old S8. Whats the best way for me to to this, i also wouldnt mind getting rid of the t-mobile apps. Ive read about flashing the phone and putting on an unlocked firmware which would remove tmobile and put on a stock samsung firmware. is this true, what is the best way for me to do this?
