I recently went from stock 4.3 to the rooted NC2 4.4 leak. I am now experiencing sd card problems. I watch several TV shows and movies on my phone.
Here's what I don't understand...
Rebooting my phone messes up the sd card. If I reboot my phone the videos I have downloaded disappear. Also, I delete videos using es file explorer or root explorer. After I reboot the phone they are back on the card. I have removed the card from my phone and connected it to my Mac. I can view the files but it will not allow me to delete them.
Do I need to reformat my whole card? Did the Kitkat upgrade somehow mess it up? I have a San disk 64gb card.
Thanks for your help..
The first thing I would do is reformat the sd card and see how it acts then.
Yeah makes sense. Will try tonight thanks.
I have actually noticed this myself, but not sure if due to reboot. I think mine is more due to switching custom rom builds. I will notice after an install of a new custom build, I will see a few pics in my album are corrupted. Not sure what causes this for certain, but if anyone has any suggestions, that would be great. Not really sure a reformat would solve this, but It cant hurt I guess.
On a side thought, I wonder if the brand and capabilities of each card have any affect?

I'm constantly switching and installing different ROMs and have never had this happen.
I can't even reformat the card! Tried on my mac, note 3, and an old android phone. Says card damaged. Looks like I'll have to get a new one. For the new card should I use exfat or fat32? Not sure if one is better with Kitkat.

I figured it was probably your card. Unfortunately I'm not sure which one is better for KK.
Of course, now I'm curious to know what damaged my card. Don't want this to happen again. Could the Kitkat upgrade somehow have caused the damage?

You don't need a new card.

Go to Panasonic website and download their SD formatter. It will work I had the same issue.
Edit: just to add also I was experiencing pretty bad home button wake up lag when I was using a cheap 64gb SD... Long story short switched to Samsung class10 64gb SD and haven't had a bit of lag since
Wow that's good to know! I will give it a try thanks.

Did you reboot in safe mode without the card in the phone, turn off media scanning and then turn the phone off, put the card in and reboot? Worked for me...

I have not tried that. How do I boot into safe mode?
Not sure, just google it. Look at my other post thread for a deeper description of resolution to the issue: "Solved - Bootloop caused by memory card"

I'm switching to a samsung focus in a few days and would like to use the 32gb card i installed on my dvp (aftermarket card).
On the DVP, when resetting the phone via "settings>about>reset phone", at what stage does the card get formatted? Would it be possible to do a battery pull here and then remove the card?
Thanks for any help.
I think you'll get a better response on the general WP7 forum. I see the official AT&T Mango update was too little, too late for you as well.

Yep. FWIW, sd cards went a lot smoother on the Focus. I guess the DVP not having a hardware key combo to reset the device (again, F dell) had me gun shy. All i had to do was put the card in (with the card still full from the dvp OS), boot the Focus, then reset it. Incredibly easy and now im good to go.
That's my biggest concern about the Titan is storage. I had a surround before the DVP, and had to manage content at 16gb. I'm not sure if the sd card slot is accessible on the Titan.

There is no SD card slot on the Titan.
Hey fellas I have had my galaxy tab sitting here collecting dust since about late may early June.
The issue was the apparently the internal SD was damaged on my Sprint tab when I put ics on it. It would just hang at the Samsung Splash screen.
now I went on Craigslist and got a local person who is much more versed on technical issues than I am .
I think he re-partitioned the external SD card to work as if it was the internal SD. He was able to load a stock Sprint rom on it got it to pass the Samsung boot screen. But now its back on Android 2.2 but its stuck at the setup screen! Nothing but force close messages . I'm not even able to select language.
What could be the next step? I feel like a major hurdle was overcome. But now another road block
Help please?

Yes, the internal memory of this devices (specially Sprint's version) has a tendency to go bad somehow, I was very desperate and decided to actually remove it and use my external SD, if you want to see how it was done go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877585

So I have a few questions. I recently just got a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active and I have a Sandisk Ultra 32gb class 10 UHC-1 MicroSDHC card that was previously in a rooted Motorola Photon running CM10. I already wiped all the data and it is almost ready to put in the S4, I just wanted to reformat it just for the piece of mind and to restore it to out of the box condition. While I was googling how to reformat it to make sure I did it exactly right, I came across a bunch of forums on how Sandisk microSD's malfuntion and don't seem to work right in Samsung smart phones. Specifically the Galaxy line and the Note's. Has anyone experienced this problem? And is there anyone out there that has one of these cards in an S4 that actually works properly? I was so excited to gain 32 more gb of storage space on my phone, and now I'm scared =[ looks like I may have bigger problems now than just reformatting the card.
But speaking of reformatting. How do I reformat this card properly? And I also read that you should format it as exFAT? is that right? And I also read that formatting it through Windows can mess it up as Windows reformats it to work best with their system, not for phones. So is there a program anyone can recommend to use to reformat it? And could you also please give step by step instructions on how to reformat on said program. Like down to every option I should select, or shouldn't select. I want to make sure I do this exactly right and don't mess up my card. Especially with all of these horror stories I've been hearing.
Thanks =]
I haven't seen a specific thread/posts on doing this. Google didn't help much.
I would recommend, however, getting a 64gb Samsung card from Amazon. Already exFat and works perfectly. Very fast--
Samsung Electronics 64GB Pro microSDXC Extreme Speed (UHS-1) Class 10 Memory Card (MB-MGCGB/AM)
The Sandisks, some anyway, have had problems--
Ehh.. I dont really need a 64gb card and don't really want to pay extra for space I dont need. Also I'm confused about exFAT. Ive seen a lot of posts on that as well and have read thst exFAT doesn't play nice in smartphones and that the only time it's really recommended is if you're rooted and on a custom ROM, which I'm not. I just gave up on reformatting and just put it in my phone last night as-is. It was completely wiped, so good enough. I don't want to take the chance messing with any of that. So far its been fine. But from what I've read it usually doesn't strike until a few months later. For right now I will keep my photos set to save on the internal just in case and the only thing im really going to put on the card is music, which I can easily get back off the computer if the card fails. Worst comes to worst sandisk has a lifetime warrenty and I have a reciept of the purchase so if anything happens I will just buy a 32gb Samsung or go with sandisk again. Apparrently the issue was with the ultra cards manufactured before or in December 2012 (which mine was). I also can't confirm this as I only saw one person say it in one forum, and it was neither confirmed nor denied by anyone else, but I saw someone say recently, I think last month, that the most recent huge update At&t pushed fixed the problem with Sandisk cards. So hopefully thats true. I guess I will just wait and see. Lol

Eh. Maybe I will get a 64gb. Can't hurt to have more space. Especially with me. Lol. I'll have to look into it when/if the time comes. Thanks for the advice =] sorry, I have a bad habit of answering my own questions sometimes. Lol

ok, just keep a backup on pc
the exfat handles +4gb files

As an update I have seen it mentioned to take card out of phone and put in card reader. Then plug into pc, right click and your will have your format choices. Also, there are Formatter programs to dl from web too. Been so long since I did that--kinda forgot--lol
I have recently reformatted my 32 gig card to exfat. Only been a week but no problems so far. Why did I? Because I down load movies that are over 4 gig on accasion. Plain fat doesn't let you store more than 4 gig. Hope that helps. Took me a while to figure out why my file transfers kept falling.

Hello everyone.. I've been a lurker of the forums for the last 3 or so years, and... Well finally decided to make an account as I really can't find any help anywhere else, plus you guys are awesome, really
I'd like to make it clear first that my problem is unrelated to similar threads as I will explain...
My S4 spits out my SanDisk Ultra 32GB (Most threads point to 64GB) MicroSD card whenever I play music, irrelevant of player.. (Samsung default Music app, and PowerAmp Pro.) Usually when launching, it is unnecessary to play a file.. Both ejecting and re-inserting the card manually or restarting the phone does absolutely nothing...
I've had this issue since firmware release AMDE, though it was tolerable as it only occurred once a week or so... Since EMK8 however my phone is absolutely useless when it comes music as this occurs when launching any music app...
I should point out, I've tested the card further on an i8190 using benchmarking and SD testing apps as well as the 2 music players I use on my i9505 and it had no issues what so ever...
PS: Suffice to say I did a wipe with every firmware upgrade....
I'm assuming this is most likely a device issue, but I tripped Knox Warranty to 0x1 when rooting the day I got the phone (I got it when MH8 released, but used the old firmware for a few hours..)
What can I try? Has anyone with the same issue found more luck with another music app?
Thank you in advance
Try to format the sd card.. and if you want, format it from the phone itself.. Good luck

I'm sorry I forgot to mention I've tried that too, both from Windows, HP Disk Tools, and from the phone itself.. Using FAT32 and exFAT, both. No difference.

I don't know if this helpful or makes sense, But why don't you try to mount your sd card as the internal storage ( there's a thread in the I9505 development helps you )

Thank you, though I don't think I really wanna touch that.. Seeing as if the card decides to unmount in that way it may end up worse, I think....
I've been searching a bit more and found a thread on another forum, it appears that the 32GB SanDisk Ultra card is giving problems with many Samsung devices, maybe I was just lucky with my old S3 Mini... I guess it's time to go back to Lexar cards again for me...
Well, I've made a couple of new discoveries and am glad to say that the issue has been resolved! It did take a bit more investigating to find out the cause, however.... Apparently the issue occurs when using the early 32GB and 64GB SanDisk Ultra cards on Samsung devices whilst having the 'bloatware' version of Dropbox installed... Why? I have absolutely no clue.. But since removing Dropbox everything seems to be working okay.. Around 5 hours daily testing over the last couple of days and haven't had a single eject in the process... Admittedly the cause seems to be completely unrelated.... But, alas... Hope this may help someone with the same issue in the future.
Hi everyone just got my note 3 two weeks ago and I bought a 32gb sd card
Suddenly today every time I would lock the phone and when I would unlock it,it would take about 3 seconds for the lock screen to appear and I would always get the message "sd card removed"
Is there any fix to this yet?
I used the app wake lock in partial lock mode and that seemed to work but I don't like the fact that the cpu keeps running

Take out and reinsert the card...most likely card problem. Or you could have also bought one of the fake sd cards floating around on ebay.
Teleported from my SM-N9005 from the Enterprise
I tried that and it did not work, I tried a different sd card and it worked fine
Also it reads well on a pc so I don't understand
I did not buy the sd card from eBay ..I got it from best buy, it's a lexar high speed 32gb micro sd hc class 10 card

Samsung phones seem to hate a lot of SD Cards, There is threads and threads of people posting about memory card issues. Seems you have a card that Samsung doesn't like working with.
Even people who have Samsung sd cards have this issue
It's really disappointing cause I take a lot of pictures and was hoping for the extra space. Guess the 32 gb the device has should be enough
Unless anyone else has any advice

Either format it via the menu on the phone, Or plug into the SD Adaptor (should have got one with the card?) - connect to PC and choose it on My PC option, right click choose format and pick file system,
Ok I switched it from fat32 to exfat
Seems to be working for now, I'll keep my fingers crossed

We had same thing on mine and my wife's Galaxy S3, we would start getting messages about card being removed unexpectedly few times and then we had both cards (different size and maker) dead within one day. One card I was able to reformat the other one nothing can recognize. I strongly suspect it's Samsung fault, we used both cards in Nokia's for 2 yrs without one error. Do a search and you will see many posts on this subject with different cards. Was kind of hoping Note 3 won't have this issue. Also, I never had another card fail in many yrs of using different digital cams and other devices. My solution is simple: I save pics and video to internal memory, when that gets crowded I do full back up to external HDD and then transfer to SD card to have it for show. All music and movies are on external SD, but are fully backed up as well. In other words I expect SD card to fail at any time, but all it's fine so far, I think our GS3's took about 9-10 months to fail the cards.
Check LOST.DIR, if there is anything there you already lost some files and the card begins to be corrupted and it only will get worse.
The main trick here is to always have a backup, so nothing important is lost forever and frankly that's a good idea with any data and any device.
