Download the "google search by voice app" in the market, then watch the video link in my first post to activate
The new update doesn't have Street View. Are they discontinuing the project?
it has streetview im using it now!!
You are right, but it is not an option in the map modes like it was before. You have to long press the map on the location, then a window pops up and there you select street view. Don't really care about that since I am in Canada and there are no street views here yet, at least that is what I think. As for the voice recognition/search function, I do not have that option in the search function. Looked all over the place for it but still can't find it. There is suppose to be a mic beside the google search bar in the Search option. Not there on Rogers Canada network. Hopefully they will fix that soon.

can't find this app, when i search for it, only one app appears and it is google maps which is already installed...
still no voice search for me.
strange.
The Roger HTC Magic (I have one) doesn't appear to have libspeech.so installed - I think that is the missing piece. I am not sure why we don't see the google search by voice app that the others are speaking about.
I'm confused why the voice dialer works - I guess that doesn't use libspeech.so?

When you are in Google Maps, do Menu > Search then select the microphone, which will let you do voice search.

It's close to the same hardware - different frequencies or something for the different carriers. The other difference is each carrier can customize the Android OS they release. Rogers in Canada, for example, released their Android phones with MS Exchange support. But they obviously left some other things out. That's why I want to root my phone so I can put whatever software I want on there.

That's the issue - there's no such button. Missing libspeech.so is the culprit here I believe. And while I have the file from other sources, I don't have root access to the phone, so I can't install it to the lib folder to make it work.
What a pain.. when I try to update mine, I get the message:
"Installation Error: Package file was not signed correctly."
Any suggestions?
I installed the new version of maps but I can't find the voice search option, it's just not there (same as previously reported) i'm on vodafone australia.
Any idea how we can get the voice working?
Well I upgraded the Maps app and have the voice search. It's rubbish! I've tried speeking as clearly as possible but it's all over the place. Searching Edinburgh comes back as Dayton, Ohio, USA everytime Typing is much quicker anyway.
New update of Google Map has been released, v3.1.1
I've updated and retried, it's still rubbish.
Ya not sure what v3.1.1 fixes, there is still no voice search here in Canada yet.
I dont have the widget for google search with the voice search like i did out of factory. it just has regular google search. was this taken out in this rom for somereason or what?

I think the google search widget and capabilities automatically update depending on if they detect google voice search installed properly. Are you able to bring it up by longpressing the hardware search button on your phone?
If not, the fix is on the first page of this thread just a few posts down:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=582549
no it just goes to the old google search without voice.
Hi, i've been searching the nexus forum through but haven't found any solution that would work on my tablet.
My problem is this: i bought the UK nexus 7 and am using it in the scandinavia. whenever i try to assign a voice command like "set alarm to 21:30" or "show pictures of cyanogenmod", it just does a google search and shows the results. I can't see any of the cards nor can i use any of the voice commands.
I tried switching the tablet language to english (US and UK) and install all the offline voice recognition libraries. I've also gone through the google now setup and allowed all location information etc.
In another thread it was suggested that i should get a trial of google apps for business and from there switch on the google one for my tablet, but this seems completely ridiculous (and it won't solve the fact that also the voice commands are not working).
Does anyone have a hint on what i should try next to get the commands to work and cards to show?
Works for me when it finally understands me. Settings are English US and it will play tracks, tell me the weather, search apps and set alarms from what I've tried so far.

the problem here is not that it would not understand me. the problem is that it understands completely well the sentence "set alarm at 21:30" but it does a google search of it! whatever command i try from the google voice commands list at google help center, it just does a google search. it does not set alarms, it does not show pictures of androids, it does not show me a weather card. i just get a google search result for "weather in xyz"
i find this puzzling

I'm in the UK, but as long as the device region is set to US (Settings > Language & Input), it works fine. I can say "remind me to drop a coil at 8 O'Clock tomorrow" and I get an alarm set, or "Show me pictures of black cats", and lots of kittehs come up...
You lot not downloaded the UK English pack?
That's strange, if I'm using the french command for "Open Gmail" for example, it does a google search of "open Gmail". I even tried the english sentence, and it does the same thing.
I changed my phone language, tried "Open Gmail", it does a google search and then, says Opening apps and Gmail starts !
I'm using CyanogenMod 10.1 M1
AW: Voice commands and google now cards not working in EU
You have to change the system language too.

I know that, but I don't want. Is it a bug, is there plan to correct this ? Is it a Google issue or is it CM ?

It's not a bug, it was meant like this. Google now needs that you use a us or Canadian English as the system language. I would like that there was one in French though.

Even though 'Language and Input Settings' have something to do with this, you also need to change 'ACCOUNTS AND PRIVACY' settings in Google Now settings. You need to enable 'Google location settings'. If already enabled, try also switching on 'Google Location Reporting' > 'Location Reporting' > it should be 'On for this device'. Hope this helps!
Hi guys!
I just flashed the 4.4 factory image with full wipe, didn't root or anything, the phone is completely stock. Everything seems fine, except for Google Now: swiping up (including lock screen) starts Google Search, which doesn't listen to "Ok Google" and doesn't display what Google Now used to display, in fact it's just a blank white page with a search bar at the top.
How do I get Google Now back?
I will appreciate your suggestions!

I think OK Google is available just in the US
Also, You have to slide left for Google Now.
have you tried turning google now on? longpress any empty space on a homescreen. press settings, turn on google now. if you dont have that option, install google search from the play store.
Log into your Google account, then go in "Google Settings" -> Search, and enable Google Now in there.
Both of you are referring to the Google Experience Launcher which KitKat for Nexus 4 do not come with, it needed to be sideloaded. (Not Google Search, the Launcher apk)
After changing the language and locale to English (US) I got the "Ok Google" listening back. Looks like this feature is not available if the device is set to English (UK), which is a bit dumb.
The Google Now screen with cartoonish mountains, Google Now cards, etc are still missing. I have a blank white Google Search page with the "Search, or say "Ok Google" search bar.
I tried long-pressing on an empty space on my homescreen, there are no Settings and/or way to enable Google Now there. Any other suggestions?
I had a similar issue, even GEL and GoogleNow were installed, but "Say 'Ok Google" didn't show up.
Cleared the data of Google Play Service, had to assign my widgets again, but "Say Ok Google" showed up

Then install this launcher. Tap and hold on, go into Settings and see if it has an option to turn on Google Now. http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...once-you-get-your-kitkat-update-apk-download/

Okay one last thing. Are you in Greece? I think its only available for USA.
You can try this: http://rezzo.wordpress.com/2012/08/19/how-to-get-google-now-working-fully-outside-of-the-usa/
1. Uninstall Google Search using Titanium Backup
2. Find and install Google Search v2.6
3. Activate Google Now
4. Update Google Search to the latest version

I am in Cyprus, and Google Now worked just fine before.
The issue may be related to Google Location Reporting suddenly being unavailable. I can't change its settings, it just says "not available in Cyprus". I wonder why, as it used to work.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, this seems to require root, and my device is not rooted.
Well, let me try a factory reset, may be something screwed up during the initial setup
Update: tried everything suggested, except deleting Google Search which requires root, and Google Now is still missing I give up.
Update 2: apparently, I'm not the only one with this issue, Google product forums are full of people with missing Google Now. So far nobody knows why it suddenly disappeared after upgrade to 4.4 and/or how to get it back.
I am on a Galaxy S8 and Android 7.0.
Following this guidance, http://lifehacker.com/how-to-create-custom-voice-commands-with-tasker-and-aut-1282209195, I installed Tasker and AutoVoice. Google app already installed. I enabled Autovoice accessibility service and AutoVoice Google Now integration.
OK Google is enabled on all screens.
However, when I say "OK Google, use Autovoice" Google consistantly comes back with "It looks like your AutoVoice account is not linked yet." How do I do this?
When I run AutoVoice Testing with my trigger words, they work. I have another 6.0 Android device where all this (Tasker, Autovoice, Google Now) works seamlessly.
Is there some other step required for S8 / Android 7.0 go get AutoVoice integrated with Google Now?

There is a difference between using the Google now voice search and using Google assistant. The running service is for Google now. The screenshot you posted is of Google assistant, in which you have to be apart of the Google + community for the app in order for it to work.
If you're just looking for basic usage, use Google now voicesearch and not Google assistant

Thank you very much! This is the first clue I've been handed to the source of my problem. You are right. On my px5 head unit, there are no settings for Google Assistant. On my S8, there are. However, I don't know why they are there, or how to disable Google Assistant without disabling OK Google. When I disable GA and speak "OK Google", it immediately asks me to turn GA back on to respond. Do you know how I can resolve this? Again, thanks!

Never mind. I found it: https://android.gadgethacks.com/how...ndroid-device-switch-back-google-now-0174676/
Problem is, don't have root on Galaxy S8. Google REALLY needs to give us the option for something like this instead of forcing it down our throats whether we like it or not!!!

No problem man. I use tasker, autovoice, and autoremote religiously haha. Too much home automation and laziness not to utilize them. You should look into the natural language it can now use. Takes a while to understand and set up, but after that, it's much better than regular recognize

I'm having fun, and pulling my hair out, just trying to get this going right now. At least twice this week I was in my car (head unit not installed yet) and really wanted to send time sensitive messages on my s8 using Google Voice. I don't text and drive, religiously. But being able to say "google voice text so-and-so" would have been quite useful.
One last, final question: I've been learning tasker/autovoice on a rooted px5. Just got this galaxy s8 and, of course, it's not rooted. Looks like I shell commands a lot in my profiles, particularly "input keyword" and "input text".
So, if I want to send %avcommnofilter as response to app, do you recommend autoinput for that?

FINALLY! This is how you link AutoVoice (or any 3rd party app) to Google Assistant: https://productforums.google.com/d/msg/websearch/HwJUpkrHPr4/xIJACIlEAwAJ
So, you have to say "OK, Google, ask Autovoice to...." followed by your AutoVoice command. Still wish I could just say "OK, Google" then command, but this will do for now.
