Hi Guys,
I know many A500 users have had problems with the power switch. I've managed to repair mine with glue but I don't want to continue using it unless I have to.
Spent all night looking for a way of using the volume buttons to wake the A500 but there's really not many options.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teliapp.powervolume
This is the only app I've found, it works flawlessly on 4.0.3 Stock and 4.4.2 OmniROM! Though I can't comment on battery life yet, it does run a background process constantly as a solution so it's entirely ideal.
I have tried editing the hard keys within the system but even with the volume keys assigned to 'wake', nothing happens? This was the case on 3 different ROMs. More information detailed here:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...enable-volume-rockers-buttons-wake-phone.html
I'm wondering if there's something in the A500 setup that ignores hard keys once it's locked.
There is also a standard feature in 4.4.2 to enable 'Wake on button press', however this option doesn't save/work on the 4.4.2 OmniROM.
Does anybody know how to get the hard keys remapped properly?
That app might be your best bet. To wake with the volume button you will need special custom kernel and would require a wake-lock. And the wake-lock will drain battery.

When I engage the native device lock on my HD I find that the volume buttons are still operable! Is this just a problem with my device or has anyone else experienced this.
Also does anyone have a solution to this annoyance that does not involve installing S2U2 (even though this program does render the volume buttons inoperable) or similar?
Can anyone confirm that their Touch HD locks the volume buttons when key locked please?
Same thing here
I can confirm the "bug".
Yup, same on mine here!
Same here - very annoying fault/bug!
mine is ok, vol buttons do not work when the device is locked.
Did you try using your vol button in sleep mode (screen off) or just lock mode?
Same here and it's driving me mental
Have compare the menus on this to the other HTC devices and found that the Lock Buttons Setting is not on this one.
I dont know why they have left this out but at a guess that because of the new 3.5mm jack they are allowing for people using as a walkman.
I accidentally found a solution to it here
Many thanks Prof!
"they are allowing for people using as a walkman." That must be why David!
So i've been dealing with this for the last week or so and I finally decided to stop searching and scouring the internet and ask for some help from my XDA brethren.
I don't exactly know how or why, but all the hard buttons on my HD2 do not work anymore. Volume up and down, pick up, home, menu, back, and hang up buttons... all not working. They all stopped working at the same time.
I don't really care except for the fact that I cannot wake my phone up after it locks/sleeps. I tried an app called Shake and Wake with no luck. Any sugguestions? or should I just look for a new phone? I really don't want to give up on my HD2... we've been through a lot! Thanks a ton you guys, I really appreciate it.
If I were you I would head on over to the nexus one threads and ask the question.
That phone only has one button, and some folk have had that not work, so they are used to the problem, and I'm sure they will have a solution for you. Worth a try anyway........
Button Savior - free from Market
Jadrobe, I really like button saviour but that still doesn't solve my problem, how do I wake the phone up without any buttons?!!
do your volume buttons work? if so, you could use ButtonRemapper (paid app) to remap one of your volume buttons to work as your power button and do the rest with button savior.
Nope, none of the buttons work!! I'm screwed!
Then yes, you are indeed screwed. Sorry for your misfortune.

Pretty much. If you have one working button then you could use an app called "button remapper"
Have you flashed back to stock/something different yet? Seems a touch coincidental that they all go at once. The bottom 5, or the two volume yea, cos they're on two separate input busses, but for both to fail together... not saying it couldn't happen, just saying it could be something else.
If there not working how do you turn on your phone?
When I slide the battery into the phone it automatically boots up as if I pushed in the power button.. it never used to do that before.
And also right after it powers up it sends me straight to slide to shut down which kind of makes me believe I may have the power button stuck on or something? I'm going to try to flash the stock rom and see what happens. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks!
Dude!! Proximity Screen Off (look in Abdroid Themes and Apps sub-forum) could fix you up in combination with button savior !
It has an option to use the prox sensor to put your phone to sleep and to wake it. The downside is it will drain your battery faster than normal because the prox sensor is in use when the screen's off. But it could keep your phone useable til you can get your buttons fixed (probly just your power button is malfunctioning it sounds like to me)

Thanks a ton Huggs. I'll definitely look into it, as the main reason I love this phone is for Android roms!
So far i've had good luck with this Winmo 6.5 app. I had to revert to the base/stock Tmo rom and it works okay.

Is there a way to disable the hardware keys apart from the volume keys on the side when the phone is locked? There are some times that i find the screen on when i get it out of my pocket. Plus i turn the screen on by pressing the volume keys in order to use the physical keyboard less.
Currently I'm using the latest Hyperdroid Rom(stock 2.3.4 room. With CM7) and Widgetlock

Unfortunately, you cannot do that as this is the way Android is designed. Its standard to all android phones due to the framework itself. The only thing you might be able to do with apps like 'Widget Locker' is to restrict the the hardware buttons that can wake the phone up. This can be done by turning off 'Easy Wake Mode' in Widget Locker. For example, instead of any hardware button, you can ensure only the power button wakes the device up. You can also set the lockscreen timeout to maybe 5 secs in CM settings, so that even if the device is accidentally woken up in your pocket,it will return to standby after 5 secs. Hope this helps. But i have to say that you have a very good suggestion. It would be really great if Android, CM or any app has this feature. Maybe you might want to suggest this to the CM team?. Im sure they have the means to do it.
I've got a note 3 sm-n9005 NOT rooted and my phone keeps unlocking itself in my pocket. I *think* what's happening is that my menu button is being pressed accidentally against my leg or the pocket (depending on which way it's in the pocket) and it's waking it up. I'd prefer not to root, but I was wondering if there was anyone here who had the same issue and / or know of anything i should look for/check on to make sure i didn't set something else that might be doing this or ways that i might be able to prevent this from happening. it's actually a pretty severe battery drain, and also i end up going into programs, dialing numbers, entering text... how do i solve this?
P.S. I had an original note (sgh-i717) and it had capacitive buttons on the face which were completely inactive unless i woke the phone by pressing the power button on the side. this configuration not only worked BEAUTIFULLY but the interface was much more usable and less likely to break. I really wish they'd do away with the physical menu button. it sucks. - and also, where'd the search button go? it was super useful for activating google now and i configured long-press to launch the camera which was super useful.
while i'm on the topic, anyone who can tell me how to remove svoice and have google now wake up the phone with either ok google or high galaxy without rooting / switching roms would have my high praise. I really don't like svoice, never have. google now is *much* better.
Hey there,
I've a big issue for a few months already.
My S4 jflte always wakes up whenever the screen turns off.
I tried to figure out where it's caused by and when I cut off the soft buttons (home/menu/back) and started the phone, the screen didn't wake up anymore.
As far as I know there is no way to repair this w/o damaging the screen itself.
So could I block the buttons from waking up the screen?
As you can see when a app is opened and the screen turns off automatically and turns on again, the home screen appears and puts the app in the background.
youtube(.)com/watch?v=Bhul9UMJ8l4 (I don't have 10 posts yet so I have to post it this way. Sorry)
Could anyone help me? I've been researching for a long time and found no solution.
Says video not found.
Are you on a stock rom?
The Video is working fine for me. Did you copy the whole link and did you remove the brackets? ( )
I'm on AOSP 6.0.1 Kernel 3.4.110-Alucard-PWR-CORE from JDCTeam.
I tried different ROMs so far (including the Stock) and it's definitely a hardware issue.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bhul9UMJ8l4
have you been doing full wipes inbetween roms ? if you have then maybe it's a hardware issue.
Yes, I've always done full wipes. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue. Is there any way to block the keys from waking up the phone? I usually use the power button anyways to wake up the phone.
You can probably disable the keys altogether. Or maybe just the menu and back key, and leave only the home button functional.
There is no way to do it with that rom yet, but you could use Xposed and Gravity Box.
Most apps nowadays offer inbuilt menu and back options anyway.
Before you try to disconnect any buttons, try to clean the phone. That has solved many problems in the past.
Look for disassemble S4 videos on youtube, and for cleaning use a small paintbrush, or a very soft toothbrush, and Isoprophyl Alcohol(70% clean alcohol, 30% pure water), you can buy that in the Apotheke.
Clean the board an all other reachable electronics. Let it dry, reassemble and see if it helped.
Thanks for the tips, but I've already done that before (twice) without success.
I'm looking for a way to disable the keys from waking up the screen. I've tried it with the key configuration files in the system, but it didn't work.
Example: When I press the home button the screen wakes up. I just want to disable the wake up for all buttons except for the power button.
Does anyone know a app for this? Or a mod for xposed?
There is no actual "wake up" function assigned to the back and menu key. Only the home button has one. So there's nothing you can disable, except for the keys altogether. I already suggested you how to do that in the 5th reply to this thread.
I've found a work-around. I disabled the keys with 'Xposed Additions' while the screen is turned off or locked.
Thanks alot for your help guys!
