Widgets disappear after reboots - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi y'all
I'm getting crazy here.
All of the sudden when I reboot or turn on my phone again after it's been turned off, my widgets need to be reloaded again. So I have to press each and every one of them and set them up again.
I use Next Launcher and I have also tried on Go Launcher, both after clearing data and force stopping them.
I use Omega Rom v14 which is tw based and XD6 deodexed rom.
And all the apps of the widgets are installed on internal memory and so is the launcher.
Btw... The only widget I use in Widgetlocker also have this problem.
So I guess it's not a launcher problem?
Please, PLEASE someone tell me how to fix this. It really irritates me!

Widgets dont refresh/update in background

Hi.
I noticed that my Fancy Widget and other clock-widgets doesnt update anymore when i open apps, documents or other services. Example:
Clock shows 19:21, Widgets shows 19:21. As long as my phone stays on one of the 5 homescreens, the time updates as usual. But when i open an app (browser, mail, gallery, or any other app) or game and return to my homescreen i can see the time didnt update since i opened the app or game. Lets say i open my browser 19:22, i visit some websites, and switch back to my homescreen 5 minutes later (19:27), the widget didnt update the time within these 5 minutes. When i stay on the homescreen and wait for next minute, the widget updates the time correct.
Whats wrong?
I dont have any task-killers installed. I have 2.3.3 rooted. I didnt remove any bloatware.
I take it you haven't moved the app to the SD either?
What app you mean? Widgets cant be moved to SD, because they wont work when placed on SD.
Are you using SE launcher or a 3rd party one? Try installing https://market.android.com/details?id=com.th.android.widget.gTabsimiClock&feature=search_result and see if its the same. I am using that clock/weather/battery widget with no problems.
I am using SE Launcher again. I used ADW Launcher EX, but got to many errors, so i went back to my stock SE Launcher.
Edit: I tried simiClock, it happens too. It doesnt matter what clock-widget i am using. It doesnt refresh/update when apps/games are running and i switch back to the homescreen.
Most clocks do not update if you have moved them to the SD card.
Make sure it is installed on the phone.
My stock weather widget never updates the location in the background, only when launching it manually will it update on the home screen.
@dsswoosh
As i posted just before....clocks/widgets dont work at all when moved to SD. I install all my widgets on the phone!!

You mean Go launcher ex? try launcher pro, i have tried Go launcher ex, Adw and launcher pro and cannot seem to replicate the problems you are describing, also not had any errors or force closes on any. Do the clock widgets that come with SE launcher do the same? or just 3rd party clock widgets you install? If the stock clocks dont work then maybe reinstalling the fw will fix it.
I tried ADW Launcher EX again (yes, its ADW EX ). Time updates in the background as it should. It seems that its only an SE-Launcher issue. Can someone try?
Maybe it is always like this and i never noticed this before while using the stock SE Launcher?! I think i can live with it, but maybe there is a way to fix it without using a different launcher?

Indeed your right its ADW Launcher EX ive always just called it adw. Well using the stock SE launcher my clock widgets update in the background so im guessing its a problem with your SE launcher. Possibly reinstalling the fw will fix the SE launchers bug? Worth a try i suppose.
I've been experiencing this on my Xperia Arc too. It has nothing to do with launchers or task killers in my case (I use neither). I have been able to reproduce it three times:
1. after a week using my Arc, I noticed a new clock widget wasn't updating except when foregrounded, and not until the next minute ticked over. I also noticed a weather widget wouldn't update reliably.
2. after two months without a solution, i completely reset the phone. All good. While playing a game, I received a call. Afterwards, the above widget types wouldn't refresh except as above.
I deleted an unrelated widget because I didn't need it, and (perhaps coincidentally) the other widgets started refreshing properly.
3. a week later, I received a call while using the calendar app. Widgets no longer refresh, except as above. I haven't been able to find a fix this time. Tested widgets like the stock digital clock shows the same problem.
So for me it looks like the common thread is an incoming call while using an app. I would guess this must be happening to a few other people, as it's the same symptoms as the OP described.
If u hav installed beautiful widgets then..
Well after lots of trial and error.. the only solution i found is..
1. uninstall beautiful widgets animation
2. clear data beautiful widgets from settings - apps - beautiful widgets
3. uninstall beautiful widgets..
Living without beautiful widgets is better than facing that refresh problem..

Launcher Crash

I've been having problems for a while now, but the issue is that all the apps and widgets disappear from my home screen. It happens when I go to my screen with my email, browser, and calendar widgets on it. If I try to swipe to another screen, the widgets stay where they are and flash, but nothing from the next screen appears. The problem persists when I lock and unlock the tablet. If I rotate the screen, the apps and widgets go away, but my wallpaper remains. I can still press the buttons on the status bar and switch to different apps, but can't open new ones unless I open acer ring and search for them, or open them through settings. I did a bit of poking around and all I've determined the issue is a result of the Launcher crashing. If I do a force stop in settings and then return home, everything is back to normal, unless I go to the page with the widgets on it then i'm screwed again.
Any help?
Running RE-FLEXxx Rev 4 and V8 BL, but I noticed problems after updating to the ICS bootloader.
Have you tried other launchers? Nova is a good option. I use GoLauncherHD for tabs. Try a different launcher and see if it makes a difference.
Went with GoLauncher. I tried it a while ago and liked it, but reverted once I started using more roms. Seems to be working well so far, but I'd still like to know what the original issue was. Or a solution.
Welcome to the club.
Well, you're not the only one. It seems to be an issue with the ICS bootloader (Any flavor. Modified or stock.). If it gets too annoying you can remove scrollable widgets like the gmail and browser widget from your home and that will help. It's quite rare from what I understand. Not many people are having the problem besides a few of us. I think the solution will have to come from Acer... if it comes at all. What would be nice is if there was a searchable term for this. It really needs an acronym... SOF (screen of flashiness) maybe??? Anybody?
Problem persists with go launcher, although the flashiness is much more... interesting. Is FOD taken? Gotta have death in there somewhere.
I like "LOD"... Launcher of Death.
Welcome to third party launchers for tablets
Do you have any idea where the issue is? Is it in the launcher, or is it just the one that gets screwed up? And how does the boot loader effect the way it runs?
That's a very good question. How the hell can a bootloader affect a rom? I've read in several places that the trebuchet launcher had the bug...but since you're saying it happened on GoLauncher, then that throws that out the window. I'm running the JB rom and it works great. It's my DD now. Some games don't work, but who cares...lol.
Is there an easy way to make an widget that will force stop launcher? That'd be less annoying than opening settings and doing the whole process there.
Haha just realized when the launcher doesn't work, a widget is useless...
I wish that I had answers. Here is what I know about this. Launchers don't matter much. Every rom that I've tried when used with an ICS bootloader does this regardless of launcher. Every rom that uses the HC bootloader does not. Even the Flexreaper versions of ICS on the HC bootloader do not have this. It is very likely that I am just missing something more practical and am off base by pointing at the bootloader. But so far it has been the only switch that has worked for me. It does seem like 3d apps and advanced rendered widgets are part of the blame. I took a few logcats when this happened. I think I see where the errors happen, but I don't know enough to say for sure, let alone try to fix whatever it is.
My Gmail app does a similar flashing thing then crashes, but launcher still works. Play Music will also go blank/black. Anyone else having this problem or know if they're related?
(I know, 2012.... but nobody posted a solution and I found it.)
Solution was pretty simple. Go to Launcher in App settings, and wipe stored data,. You will lose some setup stuff but in least it won't crash anymore.

[Q] Nexus 7 launcher problem

hey guys, I'm having a problem with nexus 7 launcher. It gets really slow and sometimes it doesn't even response. I still have plenty of memory and only used 60-70% of RAM most of the time. Funny thing is it only happens on portrait mode and it runs fine on landscape.
I sorta found a solution for that. After clearing cache and data for launcher, it runs fine again. The problem is I need to redo my homescreens and widgets all over again.
Now I try installing other launchers like nova or atom. It happens once in atom launcher when I add widgets on home screen. Clearing cache solves the problem too.
Is there any permanent solution for that? I don't wanna clear cache every time this happens. It's too tedious.
Thanks!
Eric

I have not, but I will tell you, it's becuase one of the apps you removed is causing the issue. I know that is not a solution, but others I know had same issue...
best bet is to freeze apps and make sure all functions before removing/debloating.

[Q] Widget freeze ISSUES(N9005, XXUBMJ1)

Hi, I changed my phone from Note2(N7105) to Note3(N9005).
I always use SwitchPro and Zooper Widget.
But this two widgets are freezing just within 5~10mins after restarting.
Widgets are stop so does not working.
It happenes both of Original Firmware(XXUBMJ1, CSCLBBMI3) and after de la Vega root.
Is there anybody happening same issue like me?
And is there any solution for this problem?
Thanks before!
I had the same issue
I am facing the same issue. I have the middle east firmware and my wedgets are freezed untill I restart my note 3. Can any body help? Knowing that I had formated the device and work again from begining. And still the issue is the same.

same here
it's not the widgets that hanged, it's touchwiz (Or maybe some widgets are hanging touchwiz)
Go to application manager and force stop touchwiz, this will restart the launcher and the widgets will work again

I've been using same widgets for 2 years now. Never ever had this issue on Note 2 with stock roms.
Ever since I bought Note 3 this issue affects every single launcher that I've tried so far. If the widgets somehow affected launcher somehow, it would affect it on Note 2.
My suspicion is it due to some kind of security and/or memory manager that kills off widgets after a certain time or amount of ram used. Perhaps that piece of software is exactly the same as on note 2, but not aware of the fact that this phone has more memory and if used 1.9gb it's not 95% of total ram.
The only solution I've found for this is to install Auto Memory Manager and under running processes list, select Touchwiz Home and select Keep Alive Always.
