[Q] SuperSu not working (not a Knox issue) - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear all, I recently tried rooting my device (i5905) and run into some trouble. Here is what I did:
1) I followed this guide a guide called how-to-root-galaxy-s4-using-twrp-method such that I now have a working TWRP installed.
2) When I rebooted I noticed the message "SuperSu has stopped". I found out that I was using an old version of SuperSu (0.99) and updated the version through the play store. After that I was able to open the App but it said that it wasn't set up correctly - I don't remember the exact message.
3) I closed SuperSu, downloaded the newest version from the web to my device and installed the zip file with TWRP. Unfortunately, this brought me back to the state where every time I want to start the App I get the error "Unfortunately, SuperSu has stopped".
4) Some people claimed that it could be a Knox issue, even though I never got any security warning, I decided to download a "Knox" remover script which I ran through TWRP. This removed Knox (it is no longer listed under Apps) but it does not stop the error message from SuperSu poping up.
5) I'm unable to update SuperSu because I'm already on the newest version and I can't remove it either.
Any ideas how I should progress?
Thank you very much!

Could you give a little bit more context on why I should try this and what it would fix? I'm new to this so I don't have a lot of knowledge.
Also couldn't that give me some problem because I already installed TWRP...

S4 have alot of updates NB3, NB4, NC1, NC2, elc...
Some of the updates lets the method you want to use useless
The touch philz custom recovery lets you root your device from recovery
You chould try it out

Okay so I would assume I just follow these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39433857#post39433857
Then I ignore the fact that I already installed TWRP and just install it? And once I installed it, there will be an option to root without using SuperSu?
Thanks.

After going to recovery go to philz options > reroot
The system will be rooted
If you didnt find SuperSu after boot
Download it from google play

Sorry but I have trouble following the instructions. I downloaded Odin 309 and was able to put Philz Recovery on my phone. I restarted my phone and it seems like I'm unable to enter the recovery mode. I hold down all three keys (VolUp) and the blue font in the corner appears but after a few second the phone just shuts down. I'm still able to boot normal, just not into recovery mode. I thought it might be because of my low battery but even after charging (70%) the problem persists.
I also noted that it was hard to get into Download mode (needed 3 attempts). Maybe removing Knox caused some problems - although it should really affect this? Any ideas?

I did exactly that, somehow it worked after the 11th try - seriously. But thanks!!
I downloaded SuperSu from the play store. It now ask me to install the SU binary. Should I click "Normal" or "TWRP/CWM"?
Thanks once again!

Hit normal !!

You should go to CMW topic and ask...
Make sure your CMW Build match you GS5 Variant.
Make sure a latest CMW Build can solve your problem.

It happened to me to. Do this like I did and it will work.
First, get in download mode then flash CF auto root via Odin, it Will give you root access. Reboot the phone, click on superuser and click yes to remove Knox.
Then get in download mode again and flash the custom recovery of your choice. Then let the phone reboot. Sign in with your Google account then go to play store and download the quick boot app free version. Launch it and click recovery, it Will ask you to grant root access, grant it and there you go, you will reboot in recovery no issues.
After that you'll be able to reboot into recovery manually by pressing volume up, home button and power button anytime just like it is supposed to.
I don't know why it didn't in the first place but this method works and it is super easy.

[Q] Please Help Me! Root Galaxy S4

Okay well, I have a GS4 GT-I 9500 on android 4.2.2 KitKat.
I updated it from 4.3 to this version when I was in Russia.
And lately, I heard of rooting and stuff so I'm a total newbie!
So, I jumped for some tutorials on the web and I learned about Pc Odin, chainfire root, and CWM recovery.
I used first a method wich involved using odin to push the CF auto-root with PDA into the phone while on download mode. I got only 'reset' but no 'pass' would show. And no supersu icon will appear in my app drawer. After lots of tires and multiple Odin version changes I succeeded in having 'pass', but nope, "no proper root access"(via root checker).
So then I used Odin to put CWM recovery in the phone and enter it to "install zip from sd card" and installed the CF auto-root . zip. Lines start to flow and ends with a "Done". Then I go back to reboot and it says something like do you want to fix root located in... before root? I tried "yes - fix root" and "no - just reboot" And both didn't fix it for me.
Finally, I tried motochopper.zip that have some files wich needed developer mode to be enabled and USB debugging. I only had to hit enter in run.bat and it starts the rooting process. But immediately says failure and gives an error like "failure supersu already available"...
I would really appreciate any help. I need my device rooted soon, please. Thanks in advance.
P.S: While on download mode, it shows that my phone status is modified. I won't mind having to force a factory reset if it'll fix something.
Thanks a lot!

there is an app called framaroot, available by searching xda or google, usually works for rooting samsung phones.
there is also a pc app called Vroot that works almost like magic, every device i plug in is rooted within 2 minutes, even without drivers!
Nope...

Framaroot doesn't support the GT-i9500 model. I also tried Vroot and it didn't work. I'm really sure it's something from the phone...

If you have Clockwork Mod Recovery on your phone now, find a Superuse.zip install package and flash that in recovery. It will work like a charm.
easy steps !
download & flash touch philz Recovery via Odin
then go to recovery and select re-root system > > yes apply ( Supersu )
Then download supersu from google play and he will ask you how do you want to update binary ,just click normal

Recovery Help on Galaxy S4

Hello,
I've rooted my phone using the towelroot method and everything seems to be ok. I checked my root status and it came back clean. Got the SuperSU and installed the binary. Now the problem is, I have a bad recovery. Everytime I go to install a ROM from SD, or use ROM manager to install a rom, my phone boots into recovery but I get the "Could Not Boot Normal" - Odin Mode
Downloading... Do not turn off target! And it just hangs there. I'm able to reboot using vol down + home + power and cancelling the "download" - but there shouldn't be anything to download - the ROM is on my SD card. Does this mean that I have a curropted recovery? I currently have both ClockworkMod and TWRP installed. I can't seem to get rid of one or the other.
Any recommendations? I really want to throw a 4.4.3 Rom on this device.
Thanks in advance.
You cannot instal custom ROM from stock recovery.
You need to have custom recovery (CWM, TWRP...) but this step void knox to 0x1.

HI guys,
Thanks for the replies, though I'm not sure I understand them. I have two recoveries installed, according to Rom Manager - Clockworkd and TWRP. Are these the stock recoveries? I guess I thought that's all I needed. I'm not concerned about the warranty too much.

Thanks for the reply! When I go to ROM Manager and select "Reboot into Recovery" it asks if I want to boot into Clockworkmod. I hit yes, and the phone reboots, but then goes to the this (attached) page and stays there. Then I have to do Vol down Home Power to cancel the "download" to boot normally.
I had a Droid Eris and HTC Thunderbold that I successfully rooted back in their day - but this one click towelroot seems to have screwed me up a little - though to be fair, the majority of fault probably rests at my feet.

Do not use any Managers etc. They´ve made a lot of problems.
If you don´t have problem with warranty use CF-Auto-Root. Towelroot is good only for people who wants warranty.
CWM or TWRP flash via Odin and you will see

I'm currently having the same problem and my recovery mode always sends me to Odin mode. Were you able to fix it in any way?

rooting and TWRP update problem

hello all.
im using a G2 D800 AT&T, and since i have a tethering problem which i was assured would be fixed if i installed a new ROM.
so i went ahead with a guide for cloudyg3 rom, rooted using towelroot and verified with root checker, all is well.
installed TWRP with freegee- the TWRP version was 2.6.3.3 and i was told i needed to upgrade it to at least 2.7.1.. thats where problems started.
i couldnt for the life of me upgrade it to any version, 2.7.1 or higher, and TWRP showed a loki.sh problem. thought maybe unrooting and starting the process all over would fix it so i deleted all my apps, then unrooted with supersu.
tried to root with towelroot and no go. immediately after trying to root, root chekcer gave me a "device is not rooted" answer (before there was no problem), and the device reboots just after im trying to remove towelroot from the task manager (center button).
did i mess up my phone so it cant root? is there a way to check that\ other root methods?
please help
Try other methods like ioroot and if still not working flash a new kdz via download mode and reroot with some method. And btw you can easily update twrp by flashing just a zip but don't forget to restart the recovery after flashing and restore defaults under setting. And next time try autorec

first, thanks for your help.
second, i got the device rooted and all, installed TWRP through freegee and downloaded newer version (2.7.1),
and when i booted the device into TWRP mode and tried updating to 2.7.1. , THE SAME THING HAPPEND AS BEFORE-
i just cant update the twrp to more than 2.6.3.3., no matter what version i try (2.7.1 or higher).
getting error message of: assert failed: run_program (temp\loki.sh)
error executing updater binary in zip \sdcard
error flasing zip \sdcard\download\...
updating partition details.
and getting two options: wipe chache\ dalvik, and reboot system.
this happend to me with EVERY TWRP UPDATE I TRY...
and from my understanding i must update twrp to more than 2.6.3.3 before trying to flash new roms.
thats the problem i had before as well, device simply wouldnt update to more than 2.6.3.3
thanks...
I rooted with towelroot then used AutoRec (link) to install TWRP on mine then updated to 2.8.3.1 from blastagator (link) via the older TWRP I installed.
WTF...PROBLEM
i installed autorec, clicked okay and got into the twrp boot recovery mode again, and tried to instal new version with same failed result (pictures added).
but then, i clicked on reboot, device rebooted, BUT DIDNT BOOT BACK TO NORMAL SCREEN.
now the screen is black with a green\blue led that keeps flashing and wont stop.
computer recognizes the device when connected with a USB.

tried turning it on or pressing the volume down+power button but nothing (i added a picture). computer wont recognize the phone either.
when i try to call the phone is off

the phone seemed to be in twrp 2.7.0 although it showed me a failed result
I'm not very sure but maybe its was something from the freegee app... you should't have any loki error
So your screen its COMPLETELY black?.. even you hold the power button or something it didnt show anything on screen?...at least if you hold the power button the led stops to flash?
UPDATE
so after i did hard factory reset i am in boot recovery mode, with a twrp version of 2.7.0.0
still cant get past the LG logo (LED keeps flashing) but at least i can be in recovery mode.
computer recognizes that the phone is connected with USB but cant get it to appear as MTP
thanks
i read up and i THINK im in a boot loop.
maybe i was really stupid- are you suppose to use autorec only on kitkat devices and nothing else? my device is 4.2.2.
Yea, I'm on the same boat. I was on 10b (4.2.2) tried using freegee. Freegee said it didn't support my device went to auto rec. Auto rec managed to flash trwp made the backup then was told to reboot the phone. Then I got the same black screen with the blue green led. I plugged in he phone to the computer and pressed volume up and the power button and I got the hard reset option. I confirmed the hard and now I have rebooted into twrp.
Word of the wise: once in trwp don't restore your backup. It doesn't work. See other thread on this.

Please help me get my S6 Edge Plus (SM-G928F) out of TWRP Recovery

Heyy guys, this is my first time posting a new thread
Unfortunately, my phone is stuck in TWRP recovery. When it was still working I downloaded Flashify. I don't remember what but when it restarted the phone, it stayed in TWRP recovery and never went back to normal. I tried wiping my phone several times and still won't go back. Then I pressed the option Change or Repair System File or something like that. But I put the wrong option on that menu and now it is completely stuck on the TWRP startup screen , I can't enter TWRP at all.
I tried everything that I possibly could. I even tried flashing a different version of TWRP and Philz Touch but still didn't budge. If y'all have any possible solutions, please speak up. My phone has been like this for about 6 days :crying:
I'm downloading the stock firmware of my model SM-G928F (G928FXXSBPIB). That's the only thing that I think that could possibly make it work. Do y'all think the same or is there something else I could do?
Go in download mode and flash that stock firmware that you downloaded.

Ok so now if you want to root your phone. first install twrp and make sure oem is unlocked. Then when you boot into twrp make sure you dont select that option at the start otherwise you will keep booting into twrp continuously. Next flash cf auto root and then go back into twrp and enable that option that was disabled before you rooted your phone. You should be fully rooted with no errors.
