[Solved] [REQUEST] Partition Dumps - 7" Kindle Fire HD General

Hello, all!
I know this may seem as an odd request, but if some Kindle Fire HD 7" user out there could get me a dump of the following partitions, I would be very grateful. To dump them, you need to have Terminal Emulator installed from the Play Store and type the following command for each partition.
su
dd if=/dev/block/omap/*/by-name/<partition name> of=/sdcard/<partition name>.img
For example, dumping the system partition would be:
su
dd if=/dev/block/omap/*/by-name/system of=/sdcard/system.img
If someone could do the above process for:
dfs
dkernel
system (only if you are on a custom ROM)
boot (only if you are on a custom ROM)
I would be very grateful. When you are done (system and dfs will take a while), could you put them in a zip file, upload them, and PM me the link? I need it to try and fix my own kindle.
Thanks,
r3pwn
EDIT: I no longer need these. Thanks, stunts513!

[Q] Stock AU A500

I figured since getting a replacement A500 and updating to Acer_A500_1.139.04_COM_GEN1 I would update this post with the images.
System.img - http://www.fileserve.com/file/gvemmYd
Flexrom.img - http://www.fileserve.com/file/Suq5yBG
Boot.img - http://www.fileserve.com/file/sSjqpME
Hope this helps anyone.

Here is your "knew how"... jejeje
You have to ROOT your A500 first... then use terminal emulator and type SU (this will give it Super User Access) then use the following commands:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 of=/sdcard/system.img
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 of=/sdcard/flexrom.img
This will give you the actual system image (first command)
Second command gives you the partition where the update information is located.
Let me know if you need help rooting, its really easy, just remember to have your tablet in PORTRAIT not landscape or Gingerbreak will FORCE CLOSE!!!
Hope this helps... jejeje
I got a replacement A500 from JB HiFi. I will update to Acer_A500_1.139.04_COM_GEN1 then create a system.img.
This would be much appreciated! I'm in Australia, and having some issues too. Thanks again.

I'm at work today. Will hopefully get the system.img uploaded this evening, should take ~2 hours being 600MB and all. :-(
I'm not sure if the flexrom.img is needed though.
that would be appreciated as i have an issue of not being able to update after rooting and NO BACKUP

You should be able to just copy the image onto your A500 and run the following as root: dd if=/dev/block/system-1.139.04.img of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p3
Be careful though, I honestly haven't tested the image but it should be fine.

so that means use command line and copy image onto SD card?
Sounds simple enough just gotta wait for 8 hours for download
Than again juzman very helpfull

I used the fsum utility on Windows and believe I created an MD5 checksum: 3A0AF183D5E582CBEA1D1F6BC7A61EA6
Will we need the flexrom as well when flashing this system image?
Also, this thread contains some original kernel modules: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13974214&postcount=62
Will the modules linked there be compatible with this current AU system image in the event of gps/wifi issues?
Thanks again!

Is that definitely the correct md5 checksum? I've downloaded the file twice and both times I get an md5 of 850d68aac56169b211a4913de7e4e8e9
Can anyone else confirm?

I used Better Terminal Emulator (with the extensions installed). Make sure after installing the extensions (after the prompt) to go into options, select root by default, then type exit (or CTRL-D) to close the terminal so it reinitializes with all the extensions (the icon on the taskbar must be gone). Afterwards do your stuff. After flashing the system.img the tablet might reboot (show the android boot logo) and cycle. Just power down holding the button long enough, and power back on, then flash the other img.
Hi Me again
dd if=/sdcard/system.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3
I did the above thingy and it just extracted mmcblk0p3 into sdcard
How do i install it ??
i cant just run it so i presume there is some kind of command or something in terminal?
Is it possible to get the flexrom too?
Thanks

[TOOL] MTD-Utils for Android (incl. nanddump/nandwrite)

I could not find any binaries of the MTD-Utils (a set of useful tools when dealing with flash devices; see http://www.linux-mtd.infradead.org/index.html) for Android so I compiled some Android binaries from the source (http://git.infradead.org/mtd-utils.git).
My main interest was to get the two programs 'nanddump' and 'nandwrite' running on Android which must be used instead of 'dd' when creating images of nand partitions and restoring partitions from these images, because dd does not handle the bad blocks on the nand correctly which could lead to corrupted data.
With these two tools more flexible backup/recovery tools can be implemented since a backup/recovery can be made for every partition available on the device, even those which do not have a readable filesystem, for example the bootloader. Also, for partitions which include a filesystem, but hide some extra data outside that filesystem, this hidden data will also be included in the backup. These raw nand partition images can be tar'd or zip'd to reduce the size of the backup files.

I do not accept donations, however if you want to make my life easier and thank me for my efforts, please think about signing up for a free SpiderOak account using this refer-a-friend link https://spideroak.com/download/referral/b89974e492728fa6a246880f0b7cbcd5. Dump from one device wont work on other, if they are very similar it has few chances of booting but else it'ld brick if you dont be safe!
Actually, I want to remove some system app and then install other app, and make all configuration. After that, I want to clone this configuration to other mobile device with same model. Do you have any suggestions ?
Thanks.

Ok so you got a phone (model a) and you wanna remove sumtin frm /system/app n add sumtin back n then let some user having the same model a use it
Get root
Install root explorer or any root file explorer
Allow su permissions
Navigate to /system/app and do what you wanted
Then you can dump the /system partition
Kindly give some more info of your device - will help more
And yes also paste the output of "mount" command
I think I can only give more information about the phone after I back to my office.
Actually, I am using System App Remover to remove the System App. It does the job.
Wow can I dump and restore the system partition ? I have tried to use dd command, but it fails. May be nanddump will help, but I cannot find the documentation how to use it. Please help. Thanks.
Is there any way to have nanddump directly send the image to a PC that is running recv_image? I'd like to use nanddump on my Galaxy Nexus, but since it is lacking an SD card, it would seem like writing the nanddump image to the nand would just destroy any possibility of obtaining a clean nand image.
I found a way using netcat...
From host machine in one console window:
Code:
adb.exe forward tcp:5555 tcp:5555
adb.exe shell
# nanddump [options] /dev/mtd/mtd0 | nc -l -p 5555
From host machine in a second console window
Code:
nc 127.0.0.1 5555 > flashdump.bin
So how does nanddump compare with Nandroid, which uses mkyaffs2image to create .img files?
So does n e one a mirror for this??? Multiupload is no good n e more...

ok guys...
1st: sorry for reviving this topic ...
2nd:here ara the binaries for android: http://goo.gl/eJ8mX
3rd and most importanto to me:
If I do a nandread mtd7 > mtd7.img (in my case the /misc partition) I can do a nandwrite mtd7.img > /dev/mtd/mtd7 without any data corruption ?
I have a lot of backups of many partition except this /misc that in freaking me!
So. Is this a reliablbe backup/restore system ? can I do it with all mtd partition ?
* I tested nandread in qcom msm_7x27 device running android 2.3.6.

[GUIDE] |ROOT + Tethering + MORE| Moto X ver. 4.4.4 for XT1060 and XT1058 (VZW/AT&T)
Moto X Root for AT&T/VZW [KXA21.12-L1.26]
This is a rewrite of instructions found HERE by CrashXXL. This will get you PERMANENT[meaning it will not disappear after reboot, but will die if you reflash or upgrade, etc] root on your 4.4.4 AT&T/VZW [KXA21.12-L1.26] Moto X. This will NOT disable system write protection or unlock your bootloader, etc.
The following steps were used by me on Ubuntu 15.04 to root my XT1060 from Verizon:
0. Reinstall your stock rom from HERE you will want the firmware that matches your current 4.4.4 KXA21.12-L1.26 firmware. If you are unsure how to do this HERE is a guide. [NOTE: If you skip this step and you are on 4.4.4 from an OTA then you will be stuck on the M Logo and will have to do this step and all the other steps over]
1. Make sure you have the necessary applications:
Code:
sudo apt-get install android-tools-fastboot python python-serial unrar
2. Download your _Root_<Your phone carrier>_KXA21.12-L1.26_Stock.rar from HERE
3.
-- a) Extract the files
-- b) From the terminal cd into the directory of the extracted files.
-- c) Put your phone into fastboot mode [reboot holding the power and volume down button]
4. Type [NOTE/WARNING: This will softbrick your phone. Which is completely fine if the steps are all followed]:
Code:
sudo fastboot flash sbl2 sbl2.mbn
sudo fastboot reboot
Your phone will have a black screen, but will be in QCOM Emergency mode. You can type in lsusb to confirm this.
5. Type:
Code:
python qdloadRoot.py MPRG8960.bin -ptf _root/partitions.txt
This will take a good 5-15mins. Make sure you are plugged into power and this step is not interrupted. Once this is done your phone will reboot and start up and you will see that SuperSu is installed.
Congrats you have root
NOTE: Read on to the next posts for more info and resources.
Xposed Install
The original post can be found HERE by Sabissimo.
Assuming the above steps were followed and you now have root. Do the following:
1. Download THIS for AT&T XT1058 or THIS for VZW XT1060
2. Extract the file as in step 3 above
3. Run the same commands from step 4 above.
5. Type:
Code:
python qdloadXposed.py MPRG8960.bin -ptf _root/partitions.txt
Be patient for a few minutes. Your phone will reboot.
6. Install 2.6.1 or 2.7.1 of Xposed from their SITE and install as normal.
Congrats you now have root and Xposed that will survive reboots
Thanks to @Nicene Nerd he put together a nice set of scripts to make custom packages to add/remove packages from system images. Check it out here!
Make a tutorial how to pack new applications onto the system AdAway etc.
-- Tutorial to bake in new apps. Thanks Sabissimo. I might rewrite this in the future to make it easier. If anyone follows that guide and would like to write please let me know and we can share files here.
Flash the same way you do the above.
This is for the xt1060.
Here are a list of addition flashables after you have root/xposed
Download:
This will change your /system/etc/hosts file to point to /data/data/hosts. Change this setting in AdAway and be ad free
Adaway_hosts_Root_4.4.4_VZW_KXA21.12-L1.26.zip
This has the buildprop edited for entitlement bypass (tether check) and has all stagefright options set to false. This also has the CF.lumen driver installed (look on playstore great app):
CF.lumenPLUS_Root_4.4.4_VZW_KXA21.12-L1.26.zip

If you are interested in MoFo, I first need someone to help me make the "pre-rooted" image. It must be in ext4 format. I have an XT1060 Dev Ed that is rooted. According to maiko1,
maiko1 said:
Simplest way is to make the system block device readable by everyone (chmod 644), and then adb pull the block device to your computer.
For example on the turbo via adb shell as root:
Code:
# ls -l /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name
lrwxrwxrwx root root 1970-01-09 20:49 system -> /dev/block/mmcblk0p39
# chmod 644 /dev/block/mmcblk0p39
Then pull it with adb:
Code:
$ adb pull /dev/block/mmcblk0p39 system.img
Click to collapse
I tried that but I get the error
remote object '/dev/block/mmcblk0p39' not a file or directory
Now, I am not your most experienced adb user so I may have been doing something wrong. What I did was start an adb shell while my XT1060 was running in Android. Then I typed:
su # ls -l /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name
lrwxrwxrwx root root 1970-01-09 20:49 system -> /dev/block/mmcblk0p39
then
# chmod 644 /dev/block/mmcblk0p39
But when I went to pull it I got that error above. I just noticed that SuperSu had silently denied root to the adb shell. Not sure how to stop that.
Also, if I can get this to work, then I could put AdAway, Busy Box, etc. on my XT1060 and pull the image and it should be flashable with mofo.
Finally
I will follow this guide and then post results! I wanna root in my XT058 from long time ago!

Fire HD8 7th Gen - recovery completely gone

Hello,
Please and thanks in advance for any assistance!
I've successfully rooted my HD8 7th gen fire tablet, thanks to the many helpful posts here. However during some of my failed attempts while using Magisk, TWRP App, etc, I've somehow managed to wipe out my stock Recovery partition/files. I can do normal booting fine and I'm sure that I have root, as confirmed by the # at ADB shell and the Root Checker apps available.
I've tried the following:
-Entered Fastboot mode and tried several commands there: always resulting in a 'the command you input is restricted on locked hw' (So, obviously, my bootloader is locked (but I've overwritten it somehow, so it makes me think that at some point I was able to unlock it and overwrite it?)
-Flashfire, TWRP, Magisk and Flashify apps - successful messages every time I try, but no joy when trying to enter recovery mode (it's possible I'm trying to flash the wrong recovery.img file? - does anyone have it and what is it's size? i searched my tablet for the file and found two: one 17mb and the other 8mb - both "flashed" successfully, but no joy when trying to boot into them)
-adb su commands
-Giving up and doing a full Factory Restore via the GUI - it just tries to reboot to the recovery mode, which doesn't exist, so i can't do anything.
-Giving up and doing a full Factory Restore via Fastboot mode - 'the command you input is restricted on locked hw'
I was so happy I was able to obtain root, but if something gets wonky or I decide to try the much raved about resurrection image, i need to have the recovery boot available if/when everything goes wrong.
Please and thanks again for any advice.

It's fairly simple but cumbersome to recreate recovery with root. You need to locate the original install-recovery script for your Rom. You may search in /etc or /system/etc . Most likely though your SuperSu deleted it.
So you download your particular Rom version from amazon, unpack it into a system image via mtk-extractor, mount that system image, and find the files.
You can mount this extracted system.bin either on Linux, or directly on your tablet. Just push it to /sdcard, and do this: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/36448234/how-to-mount-a-loop-device-in-android
Then you run the full install-recovery script which will patch your boot.img into recovery partition.
Alternatively, you can beg someone here to dump their HD8 2017 recovery, and upload the image here. So you can dd it in using root into the appropriate partition.
See, I told you - it's all very simple !
Edit: @dondraper23 - can you help a fellow XDA-er? Just dd your HD8 2017 recovery, and post it here.
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/platform/soc/by-name/recovery of=/sdcard/recovery.img
Then zip it, and post it here.
Thank you very much for the fast reply. Much appreciated!
I’ll give this a try ASAP and post back.
If anyone has the recovery.img for the HD8 Gen7, please do post it.
Thank you again!
Okay, i've spent several hours on this and I need to ask for more help.
I managed to get the system.img file from the Amazon .bin as you described. (I used the MTK Extractor for that. It's 1.57 GB by the way.) Next, I moved the system.img file to my Fire's SD card, then I connected the Fire to my Linux, and mounted the system.img file in Linux so I can see the file directory.
I can now see the install-recovery.sh file, located in the /bin folder of the mounted image, but it's read-only. Even by opening to that path via terminal with SU and trying to chmod 777 the file, it's still locked as read-only.
So, I don't know what to do next. I can't copy the file, and I don't see how to run the file via Fire anyway. (Was I supposed to somehow mount the system.img file via ADB commands and then run it that way? If so, I don't know how to do that.)
Sorry if I've asked something obvious or silly. As before, I appreciate the assistance!
Please and Thanks!

Sure, just copy that install-recovery.sh file to your tablet, into /data/local/tmp. There is also another file you will need, it's /system/recovery-from-boot.p . Copy this one to /data/local/tmp as well. Then edit your install recovery script, to point to this /data/local/tmp/recovery-from-boot.p . Then just su, chmod 777 your install recovery script, and run it. It should take your boot, and patch it into recovery using recovery-from-boot.p patch file.
Thank you for the fast reply. But because that sh file its read-only, I can't open it or copy it.
Error when running the script
Hello again,
I managed to get around the read-only problem (opening everything as Superuser in Linux was the trick to making that work, for other noobs who may be following along with my pain here.)
I grabbed those two files as you indicated and followed the instructions. Unfortunately I was met with a ton of error messages. Here they are:

I'm attaching the two files i pulled from the system.img file - as converted from the .bin file downloaded from Amazon (as above), in case you are still willing to help out and can take a look. (I edited the install-recovery.sh file to the correct path already, so it's not the original anymore.)
MUCH APPRECIATED!
Thank you!

Hello,
Please and thanks in advance for any assistance!

You shuld try:
-Extract an ota update in a folder
-Run from the folder with the extracted files
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
the recovery is in boot.img, doing this helped me on a similar situation
Thanks to @bibikalka for pointing me to this thread
On the 7th gen fire hd8 TWRP doesn't work yet

It's not enough to reflash boot.img ! Recovery is created on boot by patching boot.img, but the OP's fire has messed up recovery creation scripts due to SuperSu. So he needs to either re-run the recovery creation script manually - which seems to produce errors, or simply flash a full recovery image - hence my request to extract it from a fire with working recovery.
Hey, I'll pull the recovery off mine tomorrow

Just FYI, to flash this image file into recovery (assuming you have the recovery image sitting in /sdcard/recovery.img):
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/mtk-msdc.0/by-name/recovery

this is the recovery partition straight from my hd8 2017
but i am very curious about a thing, if you look at booth the boot.img and the recovery partition they contains exactly the same data, in the same structure so why cant he simply flash boot.img?

They do have a lot of similarities, that's why recovery is created by patching boot via a relatively small patch file. But, they are still different! That recovery menu is contained entirely within the recovery image, while the boot image does not do that.
Just to add to this, you don't need to flash the boot.img to use install-recovery.sh.
You can also modify the script to read boot from an img file.

Do you care to post a script that does that, and writes into a recovery image file? The syntax of that patch command is a bit messy, so I would not mind having a debugged working script
Hello again,
My apologies for the delay, work was busy this week, and I couldn't find the time to check the solution until now.
I'm so VERY HAPPY to report that all worked well, and the recovery.img and the command line you provided worked perfectly. (WOW! Thank you!)
For those who want the details, the message after the command in the terminal was:
==
#dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/mtk-msdc.0/by-name/recovery
----
34816+0 records in
34816+0 records out
17825792 bytes transferred in 1.159 secs (15380320 bytes/sec)
==
I then did a full power down, and then a started it up again while holding the top-left Volume key and the Power key, and look at that! I'm sitting at the Amazon system recovery screen again! <insert YAY! here>
I'm not sure if it matters, but I thought I'd mention it. At the bottom of the screen in orange letters, it says:
===
E:Error in /cache/recovery/last_kmsg
(No space left on device)
===
So, after a little bit of searching, I selected "wipe cache partition", rebooted again into recovery, and the error is gone now.
Another normal reboot started the "Optimizing apps..." thingy, but it finished quickly and I can confirm that all my stuff is still there. Just to be sure, I did another reboot to recovery, no error messages this time, and then another regular reboot, with no optimizing.
It appears that everything in my world is good again!
My sincerest gratitude and appreciation to all who helped contribute and support this solution.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Out of curiosity, what is this? There is an image, other than stock, for the 7th Gen HD8?

It's a WIP for the HD8 I've read. My friend has this on his HD7 and swears it's twice as fast as the regular.
Here's some info:
