pandora and slacker issues on incredible

So I have an audio out cable in my car, and when I have pandora or slacker radio running it skips half of the song, or my voice dialing starts up and my music stops. Really annoying.
I don't hit anything on the screen, or any buttons... It does it on it's own.
Anyone having this issue?
Anyone have a way for me to fix this?

Mine does the same thing, only reason I won't buy Pandora for more hours. Always tries to do it's 6 allowed skips. I've even had it try and dial someone. Only thing I've found is turn off the screen, don't use blue tooth, and that seems to help...after the 6 skips!

I use slacker and I have not experienced any issues like that. It actually works flawlessly for me unlike the other streaming radio apps that rebuffer constantly.
I have almost everything disabled on my phone except 3g to maximize battery life.

I use Pandora with the radio out cable in my car and I have noticed no issues other than the normal buffer issues I have when driving through areas with low signal strength.

I played Pandora for more than two hrs last night and it worked perfect

my wife and i both have the htc incredible and i know exactly what u guys are talking about. cause my wifes phone does the same thing. but "knock on wood" mine doesnt do it. when we have it plugged into the car jack it does all sorts of strange things. and she had told me about it and i laughed at her and said ohh u just dont know what ur doing. but i saw it for myself this weekend. and so i tried mine and it was fine.. so i dont know if its some setting or app thats causing this issue or its a hardware issue. but if someone knows the answer please let us all know.

What's happening is there are 4 contacts in the headset jack... standard on a phone, but different from a regular mp3 player. Shorting some of the pins together is how the phone works with a headset that has a button in it.
The cable is likely not getting a great connection, maybe its not plugging in all the way or something... Whats happening is that occasionally it is shorting out and then not shorting, which causes it to think someone pushed the button on the cable... Maybe try taking the back cover off and then try it, see if it still happens...
Another thing it could be is if the back cover isn't quite on all the way... the first ring of the cable is attached to the back cover, then from the back cover to the phone through that metal ring in the cover... maybe its a bad connection there... but easiest to test with the back cover off.

Ok, so for an update (a little late i guess)
I called Verizon, and it's covered under my 30 day worry free. I'm going to be getting a brand new phone, so hopefully it doesn't have the same issue.
is there any way to disable the voice dialing, or any type of commands that are sent from that shorting portion of my line-in area? I just don't want to uninstall the voicedialing.apk

I was going to mention the same about the cable control connections, but here is somthing else that might help: I noticed that my plug has a rather large outer rubber jacket that is interfered with by the car cradle, a plug with thinner or maybe shave yours down so it does not rub the car cradle hole will help.

Yep, I HAD this problem, then noticed it was doing it while playing mp3 also. Then I noticed whenever I moved the cord it would start acting up. I plugged in my head phones and Pandora/mp3 everything worked so I bought a new audio cord. It now works perfect!

i think you guys are all on the right track with this issue. cause i was in the car for a while this weekend "heading to disney" and i was messing with it some more on my wifes phone and i noticed when i plug her phone into the headphone jack. it shows a icon on the top of her phone as if it was plugged into a headset. and when i plug mine into the same cord it just shows a headphone icon.. but like it said her icon looks like a headphone with a mic on it.. so i think vilord is on the spot. im going to have to go home tonight and try my wifes phone without the back cover on it and see if it works. if it still is messed up then im thinking its just a faulty headphone jack in the phone. but she doesnt want to take her phone back cause she doesnt want to have to reinstall all her stuff on a new phone.

Is the 2.5mm jack funky for anyone else? When I have headphones or ext. speakers plugged in, slight movements will cause the connection to be lost -- I have to rotate the plug around to restore, and then hold the phone still. (Any fix other than new handset?) Thanks.

You are using the wrong size. 2.5 is too small. You should get a 3.5 and it should fit fine.

Sorry, I must be confused about the size (it's a 3.5mm jack?). I am indeed using the right sized plugs for the jack -- standard headphone/speaker plugs.

Sounds like a bad jack. Loose joints, etc can cause that. Try another headphone or speaker plug. If the same happens, you have a bad jack.

Yes, thanks -- it happens with headphones and speakers that have been fine with other devices (even happens w/the Samsung-provided set of headphones).
Bummer, but I may just have to live with it; I'd hate to trade this phone in for a refurb (for something so relatively minor)...

I had an issue where after about 30 minutes of playing music the phone would randomly think that signals were being send by whatever was plugged into the jack to pause/skip, etc. This would happen whether I was using the stock ear pieces or other headphones or had it plugged into my car's stereo.
I ended up exchanging the device to resolve the problem.

Mine has the same problem, so apparently it's not incredibly uncommon. Luckily I literally never use headphones with my phone, or anything that requires the 3.5 jack honestly so it's a non-issue.

Interesting, that happens on mine as well (I actually thought the random pausing may be a "feature" -- like for when the headphones become accidentally unplugged!).

Make sure your hedphones/speakers plug fits snuggly into the jack. I had an "issue" when I thought I had a bad jack, but I just wasn't plugging the headphones all the way in, looked like a jackass when I claimed a warranty replacement, and took the TMO skin off the phone for the last time before shipping my "defective" phone, just to try it one more time, saw that the plug didn't go all the way in, pushed it a bit harder and it clicked into place LOL

Thanks, that is good advice (same thing happened to me once with an ipod nano -- case prevented a plug from going in all the way!) -- but in this instance, my case doesn't cover the top edge of the phone, so the jack is free & clear...

Problem with the Note and it's headphones

I have been searching for this problem, but can't find anything about it.
Theres a problem with my Galaxy Note headphones. Every time i plug them in the Note, the audio is really bad, kinda like it only sends half of the music out, and I can normally only hear the music, and then the voice in the song is really really low.
But when I press the button on the headphones it works completely like it should, but I have to keep pressing the button. So if i stop pressing it, the audio gets really bad again.
Does it have anything to do, that I jailbreaked the phone with the Abyssnote kernel?

Did they worked properly before you flashed the kernel?
Maybe the headphones are just broken?

That's what I can't remember
Is there a way to reinstall the stock kernel?

Have you tried other headphones to see if its the Note or the headphones?

This has happened to me several times now. Pushing the jack harder and/or rotating it helps in my case.

Probably broken plug. Unfortunately many samsung's heaphones arrive broken...

Sounds like the pin alignment is in the wrong. What brand headphones and what were the made for? Try other headphones. I have a set of Nokia headphones that don't work on an iPhone or the note but work great on my Booklet netbook. Just saying, headphones with mics are not universal.

I own 20 nokia headphones. All had this issue.

normally i only get this issue when i havent pushed the plug all the way into the socket.

Same Issue w/AT&T Version
I purchased two G Note's back in March, and I am just now finding out four days ago that both devices will not allow the Headphone jack to completely be inserted into the port at the top of the phone. When inserted, although not properly seated all the way inside the device, you can hear sound in one side, and if you apply pressure downward you can hear both sides. I told AT&T I don't care that you have not heard of this problem, and what are you going to do about it. After taking my devices to two AT&T Retail Stores and a Best Buy, which is an Authorized Retailer, they all told me I may have defective devices. After being on the phone with AT&T CS Rep, 73 minutes the Rep comes back and says her Supervisor said it's not a warranty issues and not to replace me devices. I said let me talk to the buffon. Guess what, he/she never came to the phone to talk with me, so the CS Rep said she was going to put the Warranty Replacements through anyway. I have tried Samsung, Sony, and Philips Headphones, all of which are 3.5mm and a male-to-male audio jack to listen to my music in my car and this is when I discovered the problem. When at AT&T and Best Buy my Headphones fit into their display models without any problems, and so with their own Headphones. But when AT&T and Best Buy tried THEIR Headphones they would not fit into my phones. So at the moment, I am waiting on my replacement devices and hopefully those will be ok.
So I don't believe it has anything to do with your jailbroken phone or a kernel issue.

Do the headphones work?
I suggest you try to use the headphones with someother device. MP3player, desktop, TV.
See if they work OK with those.
I also suggest you try a different set of headphones with the Note and see if those work.

I'm going to go way outside the normal thought process. Do you ever carry your phone in your jeans pocket? I've actually experienced a couple times where the lint in my pockets got into the headphone jack hole and it would do what has been described in previous posts about the jack not seating properly. Forcing the jack in, only compacted things further. I ended up spending a while with a needle and bent paperclip to get the stuff out. Get a good light and look inside. Maybe even compare what you see to another devise with a headphone jack. Good luck.

This is true. I got one of those cheep screen pens with a rubber tip as it has a plastic thing to hold it in the Jack hole by athread. I use the plastic bit to plug the hole to stop lint & moisture

had the same problem here:
It started with the same symptoms as you described, then (as a guy mentioned) I could make it working by turning the jack a little around when plugged in.
then Iost the left channel, then it stopped working.
went to the service: they replaced the whole input part (the internal audio in/out hardware) which sits right behind the 3,5 mm "headphone out".
Then it worked. However, I was curious to find out what had caused the malfunction. So I gave it to a Chinese friend (he has a repair shop for phones).
He found out that by plugging in "non compatible" head sets (probably my old Nokia one), which do have different sections at that pin for the remote control, I caused a short circuit to the audio hardware. We could simulate this on his computer, where he has a simulation software to control the current flow caused by head sets. So, If it is not your ROM (you said you are not on Stock) , you will have to replace your audio in/out at your service center.

Headphone jack failing? I don't know...

So, I'm running into an extremely annoying problem with my G2. Just the slightest touch causes my headphone jack to stop sensing properly.
Example: I'll be listening to Google Music and i'll just ever so slightly move my headphone cable near the base of the 3.5mm headphone plug and suddenly the audio will stop as if I have unplugged my headphones. Yet, my headphones are still snapped in and once I press play again, the music continues on as if nothing has happened.
Some times my phone will go from headphones and speaker...headphones and speaker, headphones and speaker. It's as if it doesn't know my headphones are plugged in.
We are talking super light touching here. Any rotation of the plug while connected will cause it to fail. Simply picking up the phone will cause audio to suddenly stop. I'd be willing to bet that by simply blowing on the damn plug would cause it to fail. Hell, even a fart in the plugs direction would probably cause it to fail. That's how light of a touch I'm talking about here. Also, tapping and rotating the headphone plug while it's plugged in would cause Google Voice search to launch. Super weird.
I don't get whats going on. I see know damage in the headphone input...everything looks fine. I've babied this thing since it has arrived. It has been in a case ever since.
My headphones are good because I've tried them on multiple sources. Plugging in different headphones in to my G2 causes the same problems still. I've tried switching ROMs but the same thing still happens.
I'm at a loss here. I need some advice on what to do. Should I just call Verizon and get a replacement phone? Do I need to unroot to do that?

I think I might be having a similar problem as yours but with a different device (Square card reader). When I plugged it in the first few times there was a good sturdy click and it felt like it was being held in the jack well. But now it pulls out of the jack too easily, and a light touch causes the reader to disconnect. It seems like the contacts for the headphone jack may have been pressed in or something because it only maintains good contact if i hold a little pressure on the reader.
Either way, I don't like my options since I can either go on with a dysfunctional headphone jack, which might be ok since I use bluetooth more often than the jack, or I can try to get a replacement from LG which will likely be a refurb. I'm rooted too and assume I'd have to unroot in that situation. What to do...

I think I pushed the plug in too hard on mine and caused the jack to loosen. Amazon replaced the phone for me no questions asked. They continue to amaze me.

Anyone else having problems with the 3.5 headphone jack?

Doesn't matter what I connect, it doesn't feel like it's every inserted completely and because of it I've been getting really irritated when the music stops.. Can I replace it and keep the same audio quality?

Or should I wait to trade it in?

Are you 100% sure that there is nothing stuck inside the port that is blocking a secure connection? Could be something pretty tiny even as it wouldn't take much to prevent the plug from clicking in completely

i faced this with my g3, if the headphones do not have a mic its a 2 connector and idk why but it makes teh phone think u hit the answer/call/play/pause button, just get a headset with a mic, problem soft or get bluetooth and dont sweat it at all

Pocket lint has done this to me several times. I put a little hook on a tooth pick and reached in. Every time I think no possible way, that's what it is.

You can also pull the cotton off a q tip and twist in there.

yup. my v20 started this with my car aux cable. activates google now constantly, stops music, any slight bump of the 3.5mm jack and im jacked.
Took phone apart cleaned with denatured alcohol and still the issue. The port is cheap and the connectors are not sufficently making contact with the aux end. Its a sh!tty quality part LG dumped on the phone so our quad dac experience would suck.. Just poor manufacturing is the issue imo

I have the same issue whenever I use a headset or plug without mic/buttons; Google Now keeps activating unless I position the cable just right, and it is extremely annoying. I also checked the circuit board when fixing my SD Card slot and noticed that the headphone jack is soldered on, so I wouldn't mess with that unless you have a lot of soldering experience under your belt.
