buy a FLIRC usb controller then you can use any programmable remote you would want such as a harmony
I've had good luck with this >> "Ortek Windows 7 Vista XP Media Center MCE PC Remote Control and Infrared Receiver for Home, Premium and Ultimate Edition" http://www.amazon.com/Ortek-Windows...1401431130&sr=1-2&keywords=usb+remote+control
I mainly use it for XBMC, but since it does send keystrokes (and it has mouse function), its able to navigate around any launcher.

Quite a few metro remote apps in the Windows store. Reviews are less than stellar.
I use Ceton companion on my Window Phone which works very well and they have an RT version in the works.
What about just using Remote Desktop or TeamViewer?
why not..
but I think the remote desktop app don't allow you to Stream video !
but you can stram farcry 3 .. ? funny !
but it's not what I want !
Only two remote app on the store but nothing free ( for the moment)
Um... the Surface (and all Win8/Windows RT devices) have the Remote Desktop program (mstsc.exe) built in...
ok but no streaming of the media-center video (tv) with mstsc.exe
vlc is ok bug with lot of lag
I think I need two different apps:
one to control MCE like a remote.(only)
- two apps available on the store (nothing free)
A second to Stream MCE (tv, videos) on my surface.
my dream-> an app to Stream MCE tv on my surface (first screen) and for my part I play farcry 3 on my tv (second screen)
But I think it's only a dream !
Ceton just added their app to the store. I recommend it over any others I have tried. No trial but it's only $4.99
http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/app/f44a44e4-6cce-4f81-928f-897cb5263dce
it look so great
it's possible to Stream the video of media center too with this app ?
tv for example !?

GDTD, this is what I was trying (badly!) to get across on the other thread. Yes that works, and there are dozens of remote control programs, but ive yet to find one that is an exact "clone" of the screen content and maintains the fluidity, its possible to do one with out the other but ive yet to get both!
a 1280*1024 res pumps out about 900Mbps of RAW data, so you'd need on the fly compression / decompression to get that down to a more manageable 5Mbps using h.264 which will introduce an element of latency.
what im looking for probably doesn't exist, I foresee some wireless HDMI/USB combo before we get to that, the BT could replace wireless USB until that's released.
but the concept of having a tablet device, cloned to a main computer in quality and fluidity is pretty dam handy!
mstsc.exe is very laggy.
the app "Bureau à Distance" is really better ans free (fr).

but impossible to Stream video correctly.

for the remoting I have just purchased the app of CETONCORP "My Media Center"
seem to be a good app.
For the moment I met a problem for launch my movies:
mce say me "unable to find this loction file".
so :
for remoting -> ok
for Stream the tv flow on my surface -> still waiting for a solution !
thank you for your help
i got MAGBOX android that connected to TV through HDMI, and i like to remote it live view that i make data show or movies or music remotely . i can't find software that remote and control live on the android. is there any way or software i don't know?
Ordered one of these from Amazon this morning. Will have it tonight. Anyone else using one? Saw someone using it with their FTV in a video last night.
Mele F10-PRO 2.4G Air Mouse Wireless Keyboard 2 in 1 Intelligent Voice with IR Remote Control for PC TV Media Player
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DHEUBPA
Strange there is no Accessories section for the FTV here and that there has yet to be a single post in the Themes and Apps section.
Got the same remote for the ftv. Not really happy with how it works with the ftv os. Im hoping someday some dev will make a vanilla android rom for the ftv.

Use of it is kind of hit or miss, tried it primarily for XBMC which I had yet to get working with my win box media center. The keyboard was useful until you do a password and can't tell if cap is on or not.
Used plex and it did what I was trying to get XBMC to do, access to all of my media files on my primary workstation

i was the guy in the video, i love the mele pro f10. and the reason why caps dont work is not because of the mele pro its because that is a know bug in xbmc frodo versions. use the esc and back button on the keyboard side to navigate in xbmc. you'll get use to it and what i love is because it acts like a keyboard it will work if we ever get a custom recovery like clockworkmod. At least it worked fined on my ouya and madcatz mojo.

Any chance you can link that video? Maybe expand some on the use of the remote? I'm hunting for a remote that can control the FTV and TV on/off, volume. I need one that will also work with an IR repeater so FLIRC might be of the list.
Thanks.
keymap for MELE F10
Hi
I'm brand new to XBMC/Amazon fire TV, which arrived this week, and have the MELE F10 controller in the post. Really impressed with both xbmc and the Fire TV. I'm wondering if anyone here managed to get the microphone on the MELE working with the amazon search? Also are there any keymap files available and.or how easy it to make one up myself?
Thanks
Andy
Hey All,
New to Shield, not to Android or TV boxes.
For the past year I've been using the Amazon FireTV. Mostly for YouTube which I connect to my phone and for KODI and various add-ons for it. And before that I got a Chromecast early 2013 when they were first released.
Recently I've been loading the FireTV with emulators and connecting a USB hub, Xbox 360 controller dongle etc got a pain so I decided to buy a Shield.
So far, things I like
- Default TV launcher (I have a sideload launcher for my other apps)
- Play Store
- Game performance
- Design of device and peripherals
Things that bug me...
- No pause/play, rewind, forward buttons on either the gamepad or the remote controller? This thing is marketed as Android TV and coming from a Fire TV, I really miss these. Even my 10+ year old Sky remote has a pause button.
- No context / menu button. Makes using some sideloaded apps a real nightmare. Any workaround?
- I have yet to find a way to open the context menu on KODI to add my favourites.
- Cast functionality on the YouTube app is not as expected. If I open the YouTube for TV app from the launcher, I can view my subscriptions and watch videos and I can use the remote for the on-screen controls. There's no way to queue any videos.
- If I connect my phone's YouTube app to the Shield, the Shield goes to the basic UI my old Chromecast used. I can queue videos on the phone, but I can't use the remote or controller on the Shield to do anything except pause.
- I can't see any value in the remote. It adds nothing extra.
Any tips / suggestions?
Thanks!

Since it's an Android device, you got options. You can usually pair just about any Bluetooth remote. In addition Google made a really neat and minimalistic app called Remote Control that works wonderfully with Android TV (at least that's the case for my Nexus player and Shield TV console). There's also this www.amazon.com/dp/B00M4JYTWA/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_5XHvwbH3D7DKJ
Supposedly you can program it to your liking and it has lots of functionality including play/pause and volume controls. There are also controllers with a mouse pad and keyboard built in. Both remotes I suggested have play/pause functions. The Google remote control app doesn't have a mouse, but has a keyboard, a play/pause, select, home, back, and scrolling buttons, of you can opt to use a directional pad with tap to select function, I usually find myself using this remote app over Nvidia controller, it's a free app and very reliable. Personally I like Nvidia's accessory controller concept, but not sure I'd pay $50 for a half baked product when there are so many better universal and all in one remotes out there.

Thanks for the reply.
I have since discovered that X on the gamepad shows the context menu in Kodi and I downloaded Yatse app on my phone which is also nice.
May look into a bluetooth remote.
Never found a workaround for YouTube, but it's only a minor annoyance.
I just sideloaded Market Helper using the Nvidia Shield Utility found on this forum, and I used it to install All 4 and RTÉ Player. As these apps are designed for touch screen devices I am unable to navigate them using the physical remote control.
Is there some way to make the physical remote control work on these apps, cycling through each different option on screen as I select the cursor key? I am hoping it is possible to do this rather than having to connect a mouse etc.
Upgrade to 6.0. If the app doesn't have any lean back code you can use the right analog stick for a mouse.
Thanks, that is useful, but if the choice is between using the analogue stick with an app on Android TV, or using a normal remote for a version of the same app in Kodi, Samsung Tizen TV OS, or the Roku 3, I will choose one of those, at least where possible.
Is what I'm asking for even theoretically possible? Somehow identifying all the different options on any non-native touch screen app running on Android TV, and the Shield remote cycling a highlight through them as the cursor buttons are pressed?
