Hi,
is it true that Samsung released a phone (S5) with a fingerprint unit but...
it is NOT possible to en-/decrypt the device by using the integrated fingerprint reader????
Despite the fact how secure the fingerprint is, but as far as I understand there is no link.
So I have to put in the enecryption passphrase by old keypad methode????
Please can you confirm this absurdity (this are at least my 2 cents)...

One thing that I always hated about Samsung phones is that Samsung took it upon itself to prohibit use of a numeric PIN for device encryption. They decided that a 6-character alphanumeric password is the minimum they would settle for. This effectively prevents me from being able to use Samsung phones because I need to unlock my phone 100+ times a day and typing a 6-character alphanumeric password pretty much prevents any sort of one-handed operation.
So when S5 came out with a fingerprint reader, I was hoping that someone at Samsung would be smart enough to enable a fingerprint as a screen unlock method when device is encrypted. Not so! When you try to encrypt the device, it forces you to select a screen unlock method and the ONLY method it allows for is a regular password - the fingerprint method is "Turned off by administrator, encryption policy or credential storage".
Someone asked a similar question in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873700&page=4 but nobody responded.
Can anyone suggest anything to get around this limitation? All I am trying to accomplish is to be able to use a fingerprint to unlock the screen on a Galaxy S5. Somehow Apple was able to accomplish this "ground breaking" feature on an iPhone 5s, so why can't Samsung be smart about it?
I'm in the same boat and agree 100%. Pretty much deters the use of full device encryption...

If you are rooted, you can try the solution described here:

Hi guys.
I have really weird situation. So when I was setting up my Galaxy Note 4 I chose Fingerprint Scan to be my main authentication method. It prompted me to chose backup password in case Fingerprint scan cannot be read. Unfortunately I did NOT write down somewhere my backup password because I thought that the only case that will ever require me to use it would be losing my thumb finger. Since I was not planning to lose my thumb finger anytime soon I did not think about making sure to write down the backup password I chose....
Now where my problem comes. I have not used this phone for like 2-3 weeks because I use different phone as my primary one. Well guess what happened? After I booted my phone today it does NOT show the usual "Scan your Fingerprint" Screen and instead going directly to "Enter your backup password"
What could have happened?? Did the phone somehow think that somebody scanned wrong finger too many times and now the only way to unlock it is to enter the password? I guess it would be easy to just wipe the phone and start over but there are many pictures that I took on phone's internal memory and did not have a chance to transfer over to my computer... Anyone could PLEASE chime in and tell me how can I make it ask for Fingerprint instead of password?? I would really appreciate to hear what you guys think
Short version:
1. Had Fingerprint as main authentication method
2. Did not write down backup password anywhere
3. After not using the phone for couple weeks now its skipping Fingerprint screen and directly goes to asking for password
4. Any ideas?
One of the best advantages of the HTC 10 is the unlooking for the fingerprintĀ“s sensor, but the telephone can get unloocked for the fingerprint or for the PIN. Is there any form to configure the phone for only unlock for the fingerprintĀ“s sensor?
No, you need to have a backup pin when you've enabled to fingerprint sensor. If you're worried about someone accessing your phone via the PIN, choose something long and complex, rather than a simple 4 digit code. Something like 19191946 would even work.
The PIN can't be easily brute forced because after 10 failed attempts the phone will be wiped.
Well, HTC should have thought about levels of security, I believe that it may have been as they make other telephones, firstly unlock for the fingerprint sensor, if this not function, unlock by the pin, and if the pin is not the correct, then to make wipe to the telephone, thanks
Hi all.
Recently I have bought a X720 device. I have tried to add a new fingerprint (EUI OS) and the system returns an error after a low vibration (not a crash, something like "you have to erase your fingerprint first" but there is no fingerprint added). I'm trying with LineageOS and it doesn't work neither (something like "fingerprint cannot be added, try again or use another finger").
What can I do?
I really apreciate any help.
1. Where did you buy the phone?
2. Did you take a video of yourself unboxing the phone and testing out the different features for warranty purposes? If you didn't, that was your first mistake if the fingerprint didn't work on Day 1.
3. This is probably a hardware issue that you should have gotten on camera the moment it occurred. If you bought your device from LeEco U.S., you might be covered under a warranty. Banggood/Geekbuying/AliExpress/etc? Good luck trying to get them to take back the phone....
Always always ALWAYS document issues with a phone you imported from overseas or Chinese phones. A lot of them are produced quickly with cheap components and no quality checking or assurances.
1. Banggood
2. No
3. Could be. Exactly, the message is "fingerprint can't be stored, please remove an existing fingerprint". Is there a location where the fingerprints are stored? In the configuration panel there is no option to erase any fingerprint.
Thanks anyway

Flash all the ROMs and factory images you can EXCEPT 26s (or whatever the x720 equivalent is) to see if the issue is prevalent across all ROMs. Also use sensor-detection apps to see if anything is detected and use logcat to dump your logs here.
It certainly sounds like a hardware issue to me. You should have contacted Banggood the moment the issue came up, instead of rooting the phone....
Hello. Even though this mistake came to me. Are you solved?
Hello everyone.
Well, as stated in the title I really had a week of ****. It started with the theft of my Samsung S7 edge.I am really disgusted
As I really like this phone and the price is interesting now and having a TWRP backup on a USB key I've bought another S7 edge thinking that I could easily reinstall my backup TWRP of my missing phone with all my very valuable data and programs. Unfortunately for now it's total failure. I could actually reinstall my backup but impossible to enter into the phone. I had put after the boot the security by fingerprint plus pin code for the phone and neither function. I am absolutely sure of my pin code, I always use the same but the phone answers me incorrect pin and my fingerprints are not recognized. :crying::crying::crying: I mean that the phone for the first reboot does not accept the fingerprint asks me the code and does not accept it. I tried to flash fingerprint wakeup to be able to use the fingerprint after the first boot but it is even worse the phone say that the fingerprint does not work and that I have to try again later. I specify that I tried the fingerprint with the phone I bought used before installing my backup and that it works properly. In your opinion, is there a way out of this inextricable situation? Is it possible to bypass the fingerprint? Or another solution to recover my data and my programs? Thank you to those who will take the time to read me and to those who will answer me if there are any :fingers-crossed:
