Browser from previous Android versions - Xperia Z2 General

Coming from HTC ONE to the Xperia Z2. I love this phone but I seriously want to throw it against a brick wall because I am so frustrated with the browsers on offer. I am used to the ease and simplicity of the old stock Android browsers. Chrome, Firefox, Dolphin etc are just terrible in comparison. For **** sake, I can't even sort bookmarks with these things. I want to open my browser app and have a home page (google) open and ready to search, be able to sort my bookmarks in order and be able to zoom in and out by double tapping.
Is there any way I can get an older version of the stock android browser back?

i seriously second this thought... stock is so very pure and user friendly...

I thought Google made chrome the stock browser in 4.4
Sent from my C6906 using Tapatalk

My replacement z2 from 3 that had customised firmware had the stock android browser included along with chrome, mind you I have flashed the stock UK rom which I don't think includes it.

Actually back in 4.1

Is there a third party browser similar to stock android browser?

Unfortunately no, not as far as I can see. They all seem to be pretty much the same, unnecessary difficult.

I've tried installing the ASOP browser but it didn't work. Maybe with root it might.

AOSP Browser will use an old version of Chromium Webview which is very laggy compared to the one used in Chrome...

Yes. I've followed instructions on installing the older ASOP browser. It installs, but won't open for more than a split second.
I'm slowly getting used to Firefox, but not being able to organize my bookmarks is just ridiculous.

Do you mean it will be laggy on Kitkat or laggy compared to Chrome? Honestly I'd put up with the lag for the ease of use and ability to manage my bookmarks.

At great personal risk, based on the previous LMGTFY posts, I would like to bump this thread.
I just got my Z2, and I notice that there is no AOSP or similar "generic" browser.
Interestingly, my Nvidia Shield Tablet (also 4.4.2) did come with a version of the "standard" ("stock") Android browser as well as Chrome.
Yes, I can try whatever I find in the Play Store, but I would like to hear other users' experiences.

I like the Chrome Browser on Android, especially the "shared tabs" thing. So I can open tabs PC/Laptop and if I have to go, I can read it on the Phone. Very nice
The only bad thing are the pink glitches when changing tabs, but it's no big problem for me. And the missing flash support is bad
But all in all it's a very good browser for my DHD

I've now tried 3 different market unlocker apps, none working for me. Still not available. Downloading the Chrome APK was the better option.

Very and very good, beautifull and fast browser. Very usefull to have access for my bookmaarks from PC, but it's some uncomfortable without flash
Too bad it's ICS-only.
Unfortunately only for ICS but I think Chrome is the most good browser!
I wanted Chrome, but did not realise it did not have flash. For everyone who loves the favorites. Why not use Evernote? If i see a cool article but have no time to read I save the link to Evernote. Than, when I sit on the couch or where ever I use Evernote on my mobile, PC ot work to open the links and read the article.
I like my browsers with flash!

Best Web Browser?

lol, these threads are usually annoying, but I'm desperate!
Tried Ocean browser but it's fugly with that grey color scheme (couldn't find a way to change it). It matters to me since I'll be browsing the net a lot.
Dolphin is the one I'm settled with at the moment and so far it's nice.
Will give Opera Beta a try.
Any others people use?

Definitely the best browser. Its android browser. Yes you need root. Once you do its very simple to install. Its the smoothest and does flash full screen videos without issues.
If you don't want to root, naked browser is also very good.
so far I'm loving firefox, it has adblock and it's smoother in flash videos. =D

Works fast (after the V8 Javascript update), and I haven't had it crash yet that I can recall (I do wonder what people are doing to have it crash "repeatedly" though since I haven't had any issues).
AOSP Browser comes in second for me. Anything else isn't an option for me unless it syncs with Google.

Chrome for almost everything. I use the "other devices" feature several times a day. It's great being able to instantly pull up any tab open on the desktop, laptop, tablet, or other phone.
Firefox Beta or Dolphin Beta for stuff that requires flash. Don't really use AOSP browser anymore.

I think you have to change some parameter to Ipad, it's on Android I think, sorry but forgot which option is it. Say if it worked!

I uninstalled Chrome today

And switched back to the native browser.
Got extremely sick of abysmal scrolling performance (made me feel like I was using my Touch Pro) and after switching back to stock I now realize how slowly Chrome was loading pages. And a recent bug that resulted in Chrome saving any MP3 with an MPGA extension and stripped ID3 tags for no damn reason.
The only feature I can say I miss is the sharing of open tabs and bookmarks across devices
Can any other browsers sync with desktop Chrome, well, without being Chrome?
I wish I could do that, loved the browser on my galaxy nexus, but chrome sucks
I would get the original browser but idk how to root

as much as i want to be on the bleeding edge, i de-installed that one. using pages like xda and responding got so bad it was basically useless. i dunno what google is doing there. writing a browser is probably harder than writing an OS, but still, the others can do it to some extend, why not el goog.
I use Opera Mobile, works perfectly and syncs with Google (Chrome favourites on the phone). Loads much quicker as downloaded data is beeing compressed and unpacked.

I recently read that in the AOSP browser, all the saved data is in plaintext. Switched to chrome after that.

A. Chrome because of the syncing.
B. Can I install the old stock browser on unrooted android? I don't use it much but Id like it back for the, even if limited, flash support.

I don't follow what you are saying. Any app that stores passwords locally even encrypted with a key is not secure on rooted devices since all they need is the encryption key. My guess is Google does this on purpose since obfuscation would just make people think it is secure without it actually being secure.

(logic dictates that) An app that stores passwords with an encryption key would not make that key easily available to other apps. Maybe im wrong and even encryption stored passwords are easily accessed. Makes me all the more thankful for PDroid.

Fastest browser I've ever used.
Smoothest browser I've ever used.
Fash works flawlessly with it.
Quick controls ftw.
Havent had a FC yet. (Reliable)
The only issue I've ever had with AOSP is on some forums it weirds out and wont let you add attachments and the word selector acts trippy. But other than that AOSP is flawless.
Edit: Also just to add the interface is very lite and simple which is a plus for me.

Chrome Beta or Naked Browser.
Chrome because it syncs with all my other PCs that use Chrome and Naked Browser cause it is simply the fastest browser I have used. Not much on looks, just pure speed.
Internet browser is a tad faster but I prefer the latest version of Chrome version 30.0.1599.92 since it does a better job of correctly displaying some sites that the Internet browser has issues with and is also very smooth and stable now.
I use chrome and also I use android browser from the playstore. Its basically the browser we had on the note 2 which was great. The stock browser on the note 3 doesn't sign in with Google anymore. I'd highly recommend checking it out. Just search android browser in the play store.
