This bulky phone has a nasty feature: basically during phone calls an overlayed lock screen appears, requiring a double tap to unlock.
I believe this is due to the missing proximity sensor.
I wonder if is there a way to disable this

Does anyone know of a way to disable pocket detection on stock ROM? I like to used my phone is landscape mode and I'll sometimes have my thumb partially blocking the proximity sensor on the top left, so whenever I unlock the phone, it will think it's an accidental unlock in the pocket and automatically lock the screen again immediately. It's extremely frustrating and it'd be great if I can disable it.
Hi all,
When my phone is in my pocket and I get a notification or sms, the screen powers up and since I have the simple swipe lock screen, it unlocks and f**s everything up.
I think it should be obvious not to power on the screen when the proximity sensor is blocked.
There are some apps in the Play Store or xposed modules (Gravitybox) that claim to have this or a similar option, but none seem to actually work.
Did anyone else experience this? Does someone have a solution?
only sms and battery notifications should wake your phone.
for sms, switch to Google's sms app.
battery notifications aren't very common in your pocket.
you could also look for an original samsung "flip wallet" cover.
the screen turns on automatically when you open it, and can't turn on when it's closed.
this also completely removes the need for a lockscreen.
I also have a tasker profile I could send you, but for your issue it would only work if you have a horizontal pouch/case.
edit: the reason those apps/modules don't work is because the sensor seems to constantly recalibrate/reset itself.
so if it's triggered a 2nd time in your pocket it will have recalibrated and think it's no longer in your pocket.

Thanks.
I've put on the new Messenger app from Google (apparently they have 2 sms apps now), and disabled the Samsung builtin one. I'll have to see if I get any accidental unlocks in the future.
I recently bought a 6P (yey!), so far I've enjoyed it a lot! Came from a N4 that also served quite good.
Anyways, I bought a screen protector without the cutout for the proximity sensor. So as you would guess the screen goes black after I answer a call and it is really annoying.
Is there a way to disable the "darken the screen when a call is active" or another solution without replacing the screen protector?
So far I only enabled the Hang Up power button press feature, and I don't like this solution.
Thanks in advance
The only workaround (on stock) is to enable power button to end calls in accessibility options. My toast skin and TGSP was doing this to me until I got fed up and made the cutout wider - haven't had the issue since. If you download a proximity sensor tool or test suite from Play store you'll see that the phone can't detect distances - which is why it assumes it's pressed to your face.
On my wife's SM-T331 shes gets a lock screen that appears when making a call. A double tap and swipe clears it for several seconds but then it returns. I've googled extensively and cannot find a fix for this.
Talkback is OFF.
There is talk of the proximity sensor possibly causing this but directed at the screen turning off rather than the lock screen. I have also failed to find any acces to the proximity sensor settinsgs.
Android 4.4.2
Any clues or extra info needed?
Has no one else come across this and found it annoying?
I still have my wife moaning about this rather odd feature.
Does anyone know of a fix?
It is sad to see that gesture to wake up from theS9 was replaced in the S10 by Lift to wake, which is actually kinda useless, well we have double tap to wake, but gesture to wake was way more badass, you felt like a jedi waking up the screen of your phone.
I used to have it enabled too. I guess it's true there is no real proximity sensor anymore ?

Furthermore the option to just call a contact by putting the phone against your ear is now gone too.... I hate when Samsung remove features from their flagships.... How hard is it for them to just use a normal proximity sensor inside or next to the speaker? Major disappointment.
