Hi All,
I know with the release of the new 4.4.2 OTA there are mods and adjustments floating around in many different threads (including the new entitlement hack in the Droid Ultra thread - thanks @iBolski !)
I thought I'd make a new thread to consolidate all of the adjustments as they come in. Feel free to post up what you've found and/or done, as well as a link to the thread you found it so others can profit from the knowledge as well. Not sure if this type of idea has been started somewhere as of yet, if so feel free to let me know and we can have this one closed / deleted.
Pending how interested people are, how lengthy / involved the thread gets, I can even do my best to make a "table of contents" with mods, post #s, and credit due where it should be in the second post so people can find what they're looking for with as much ease as possible.
Enjoy!
How-to upgrade XT926 devices from 4.1.2 to 4.4.2 - FOLLOW DIRECTIONS TO A T! - thanks @SamuriHL

How-to hack the native tether app on 4.4.2 - in Droid Ultra thread, works on XT926 as well! - thanks @iBolski
Post #3: 4.4.2 Launcher with Translucent bars mod - thanks @ATTACK
Post #9: Allow write access to SD card on KitKat - thanks @pistacios
Post #10: Atrix Lapdock modified to work with Motorola Razr HD - thanks @yujikaido79
Post #11: BIONIC Lapdock reported not working after modifying (or at least not working well enough to make it worth doing the modification - thanks @embeem
Atrix lapdock now works with 4.4.2 OTA
Loving the new update a bit of good news with the OTA at least for us XT926 users. I was curious if my atrix lapdock would now work and I am pleased to report it fully works with the new kitkat OTA Full resolution and everything. Quite happy even though it does make a good hdmi monitor with the proper adapters. Glad I can now use my phone with it. :good:
This was done for the XT907 but I included a guide.

Was there any sort of modification to get it to work or was it plug-and-play? If there were any mods needed do you have a link or write-up?
Thanks!
I sideloaded the recent ota then sideloaded the google now launcher as well. Now all my google apps wont connect to lte. All non-google apps work fine though. Anyone else experiencing this?

Google servers are currently having issues on certain services. http://www.droid-life.com/2014/05/16/google-services-experiencing-issues-how-are-yours-acting/
Yeah, I read that right after I posted
Allow write access to sdcard on kitkat:

Root is required for this one...
Atrix lapdock with Razr HD Maxx
When I received my atrix lapdock I needed to turn the connectors 180 degrees for the phone to plugin. Found here post #4 has pictures.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-razr-accessories/212954-atrix-razr-lapdocks-59-a.html
Otherwise it was a plug in play affair, at least for tablet mode. I used apex launcher for tablet mode and set DPI to 240. Also I used gravitybox with xposed to put the softkeys on the bottom while in landscape mode. I was watching netflix on it last night and it worked great. Only thing I need to look into is the sound. It only has one setting, Full volume or mute, when using volume rocker on the phone or function keys on keyboard. Some of these edits require root in 4.4 kitkat which as of now is only available if you have an unlocked bootloader.
*Edit I used the app soundabout (no root required) ]from the play store to switch my audio output to my phone speaker and was able to control it using the keyboard shortcuts. Good enough work around for me considering sound output.

I followed this thread as well to turn it into a hdmi monitor if any are so interested.

I dug out my old BIONIC lapdock, made some adjustments to the connectors ...
It worked, but all I got was a very badly scaled copy of the phone screen; hardly worth the effort it took to alter the connectors.
Much here!

hey i know the whole OMG APPS2SD WE HAVE ROOT thing is big around here. but i dont have use for apps2sd at all. i have 14 apps and i change firmware like 9001 times a day when something new comes out. but i have 2gigs of OGG music files. and every firmware i have used ends up bugging out when im playing music and i get a notifacation with the usb headphone adapter connected. could we get a firmware optimized for music and enjoying it instead of showing off our rooted phones with no real use behind it. redirect this post if you need to. i know the whole "WRONG FORUM TOPIC LOCKED" thing happens alot here.
you can try the getting the EQ mod or the Max volume mod as well
would there be any use in me attempting to set up the sdk and pulling an all nighter to learn how to make my own NON BLEEDING EDGE but very stable release? cuz i would love to just have a stable phone with every volume thing and EQ pre installed. and that pesky sound service bug, dats gotta get fixed.

has preinstalled max volume, also a selection of the roms
You don't need the sdk to use the audio mods. Read a little bit more, and you will discover that you can use lucidrem's script to download the the audio mods without a pc. It takes a little patience, some time, and using the terminal. But it is easy if you follow the instructions. Also the developer of the audio mods also has several custom roms with the mods built in.
Edit. If you want a stable Rom use jf1.51, thedudes 1.2b you can add the audio mod on top of the using the bat files that comes with the audio mods
i'll try out *** - JF1.51 CRB43 US with V2 then. im used to using the terminal, its not a problem to mod my own, but being able to just quickly flash my phone back is too tempting. and @ubernicholi, i was meaning the sdk to build my own firmware as a whole. i assume its going to take me a while to understand why this whole multiple firmware bidness is a good thing, when its basicly taking all the newest unsupported code from the tree, and applying it and modifying it for the Dream handset, and in doing so, giving it 3rd party support. like downloading windows xp black pirate edition on TPB, to me its useless. ahhh the beauty of open source ^__^
why not go back to stock? it's not bleeding edge and it'll play your music just fine.
theres no shame in that.
wait. no, no...there is shame. terrible, terrible amounts of shame.
yea, but then i cant use debian. which is pretty cool so far.

lol I apologize I couldn't resist. So if a music centric build is what you are looking for, then it would be possible to strip out a lot of unnecessary features. First off, I think Google sync which is constantly running in the background can be taken out. Applications that are constantly refreshing, such as Mail can be removed. I understand you have apps to SD currently installed. Try internalizing the Music.apk, moving it back into the faster more reliable internal memory. Moreover, a good place to start I believe would be with the Google Ion build, which is lightning fast.
if i knew how to do that, i would slim down a stock JF update.
I think you should start out by flashing to Google Ion. Then, using ADB on your computer, enter ADB shell and being to manually remove the unnecessary applications. Whatever you don't need, take it out. As for Google sync, go to settings and disable it. Also in settings, disable notifications. At a point, you can even just turn off the radio and switch to airplane mode. That way no other services are running and you can listen to music uninterrupted, at the cost of not being able to accept calls.
wow, thanks for the support. i was looking at ION and thinking that it would be perfect. but im not really sure how to set up the development on fedora 11.

Ion FTW.
You set it up the same as you do on any other distro...
and...
what do you honestly do with debian on your phone?
As in on your computer? Are you running Linux or any operating system based on Linux? If so, unfortunately I can't help you there, I mostly use Windows and occasionally Wubi ):
(In all honesty I have very little knowledge when it comes to running Linux on a computer, so sorry about that haha)
I forgot to add, maybe increase your processor clock speed to 528Mhz. Look for an app called SetCPU. It is here on the forums for free, as the creator is among us or alternatively download it from the market, however it is a paid app on their.
if u use ion use R1 its faster than R2 in my opinion
i use um that overclock widget, i love that thing, works so well. umm. debian on my phone is pretty cool. it has potential. umm i might set this up and get a small release with just my name and roadmap on it.

Hmm.. looking at your signature, overclocking your PC, and even getting Debian to work in the first place, I think you are definitely capable and very experienced. Best of luck to you
Let us know if you are able to get that stripped down version of Google Ion working. I would do it, but I don't know how to resign updates and I just finally settled down on Haykuro 6.0.1 after a ROM struggle between JAC's Hero, TwistedUmbrella's Hero and JF1.51 where I was flashing a new ROM on a daily basis.
my only thing is my work ethic and lack of programming experiance. if anyone could help me get started. hell, i might actually post something in the android development outlining the project goals and stuff like that.
This ROM is rather incomplete as it is part of a project to backport parts of other HTC Sense 2.2 (Froyo) MDPI ROMs in ordr to have an HTC based Froyo ROM for Eris. Unlike the CyanogenMOD ports which have provided versions for models of their Froyo ROMs which were much easier to work on the Eris and have had 5+ months of painstaking work where this is only on its first month.
I'm just trying to get the optimization aspects done while others get full hardware functionality working, although I may join them soon. So what works? Allot actually. What doesn't? Thanks to Tazz, Tenzo, Conap & Decadance not much (BT audio, camera and WIFI hotspot).
It is fully themed using a combination of contributions providing a clean and somewhat unique Expresso look as well as many common performance tweaks which, to me, have provided a smoother, less choppy feel when interacting with the UI when compared to its parent ROMs.
Please note that portions of this ROM fall under the GPL, Apache and BSD licences. You may find the details of these licences here.
Since I rarely use the camera and never used BT audio I am currently using this as my day to day ROM. That does not mean it provides me a full experience. It is still very bleeding edge.

NOTE:
Before releasing more updates I am moving my efforts towards helping Tazz & Tenzo with core functionality and take what I can for that and help Kaos with Gingerbread. Once all core functionality is in place for this ROM's parent ROMs I will get this going as a serious ROM with the same focus it has now. So development on this ROM is still 100% active but it is gonna take a bit before you see a new release.

Hope it helps, sorry for the inconvenience.
I'm going to give this a try also. I've got two micro sd cards... one for Eclair ROMs and the other for Froyo ROMs. The Eclair card is partitioned for apps2sd and the Froyo card is all Fat32. I'm currently running Tenzo's xtrRCMix-Sense2.1 which is pretty awesome, but I think its time to swich cards for a while!

I'm getting the same thing.
I'm getting installation aborted when I try to install it. I did a complete wipe and boot in recovery.
I tired re signing the .zip file I downloaded and even that wouldn't work. I opened it in winRAR just to check and I get a break operation where it says unexpected end of archive and it says there are 0 bytes of data. Properties says its 120MB but I don't have a checksum to verify that the file is intact. It seems whatever was uploaded has been corrupted.
The archive is corrupt. Please re-upload it.

Ditto here.
I downloaded it late last night and it took FOREVER! I see he updated the link... Anyhoo. I was able to get it to install and it seemed pretty smooth/stable. I saw a couple FCs.. one in particular was in Settings > Network > Mobile Net options. Each time I tried to get into that setting page, it would FC. I also tried to get Facebook from the Market and it would never download.
I like the new sense ui though! it looks really clean. I've not sampled Tazz's or Tenzo's yet.
No LWPs worked for me.
Switching back to XTRSense for now.
Keep up the work!

were you able to get bluetooth audio to work? I've been using Tenzo's which is awesome except the bluetooth will connect but i can't hear out of it (which is necessary in CA for driving)
I built this over a year ago, but never put it up on here because I didn't actually own my own Acer Iconia A500 until just this past week, came across the old files, and felt the need to share it.
This preview is small (I'm really bad at making gifs, some assistance there would be nice) But I think I got the speed about right.

Lemme know if there is any issues, I've only dropped this on two tablets so far, with no issues. I haven't trying anything with ICS, so I dunno if that'll effect it or not.

6/24/2012 - Thanks JaeKar99 for getting everything fixed for me!
Why not move this post to the appropriate thread?
@Muyami..... Without wishing to discourage or criticise you in any way, I must point out that if you had just looked at the front page of "Iconia A500 Themes and Apps" you would have seen a thread entitled "Publish your A500 Boot Animation efforts HERE". That thread was established in July last year and has, as the title suggests, been the focal point of 99% of all boot animations for the A500, it has covered all kinds of animations including Honeycomb and ICS.
It has been the font and source of a great deal of time and effort from the contributors and has covered all manner of styles and tips including links to complete "walk-throughs" on how to create boot animations.
I would suggest that if you want help or any information re animations that you move this post to that thread. It will also give you the largest audience for your work.
I don't want to put mine in a thread just to be lost. Simple as that.
I also don't feel like I'm going to find any way to get any real feedback if I'm just another post in a year old thread that little to no one may check. By posting my own thread for said theme then new people are going to see it, those who have possibly been wanting a theme similar are going to see it, etc. I looked through the themes thread. And by looked, I mean lazily scanned over it. Thats what most people do. By having a separate thread those who wanted exactly this can find it without 40+ pages of themes that they have absolutely no interest in.
Thats why I didn't put it in the 'appropriate' thread.
My, My, Muyami you certainly are getting your knickers in a twist for someone who has only made 13 posts.
In answer to your post, firstly I would point out the Forum Rules which clearly state that before starting a new thread you check to see it isn't duplicating an existing thread.
Secondly as regards "people not checking the existing thread" I would point out to you that the existing thread has had a total, as of now, of 96,439 "Views" and 410 "Replies".

Ehhhh... best leave the n00b alone. He's looking for "Glory" as he stated.
Anybody who wants to know anything about HC/ICS bootani's knows where to go.
Clearly not looking for friends....
Despite what anyone says, thank you Muyami. That is an awesome Boot animation. and I clearly would not known it existed had you put it in the boot animation thread..a thread I rarely check..
anyway thanks again. I will be throwing this on my tab
OK, this bootamimation is screwing up my tablet.
I downloaded it, put it into place, and rebooted to check it out. Nothing but a black screen. Went back to ROM toolbox's animation installer and put on the bootamimation I was using before. Worked correctly. Moved your boot animation into place using a different file explorer and used ROM toolbox's 'view current animation' feature to try to look at it, the app crashed, and when I went to tap the button on the 'needs to close' window, the entire tablet locked up.
You can see my device info in my sig.
THAT SAID I hope you can get it working on my tab, because it looks awesome. =)
Just had a chance to try it and it just stays on a black screen. Doesn't play the boot animation. Will this work on ICS BL or HC? Im running Flexreaper RV1 Ex. Ed. rv3 with unlocked ICS v4 BL. Hope this helps.
I'm looking into both issues, could be something simple. If someone figures something out lemme know so I can update the files.
Updated download files.
My tablet's on the fritz so I can't properly test it right now, but lemme know if there are any issues.
My tablet's not letting me mount my root directory as r/w, if anyone knows how to fix lemme know. Just got the thing rooted, no bootloaders or anything special.
Okay - took a shot at the issue... The png files are too dense for the gpu to process correctly.. you are getting a boot black out.. '
I converted them to jpgs and slowed the boot down .... A LOT.. Yours was running at 15 frames per second - mine is running at 5...
The desc.txt file was set to run through one loop (4 seconds) then to black screen..
I split off the last image to a separate folder and infinite looped it in the desc.txt file...
Runs smooth like glass on ICS... Download
Have a great one!
Thanks, I knew it was something simple I had overlooked.
Edited first post with updated files.

I suppose you used an older version of Blackthnd3r to get root? If so, you probably have an older "re-mounter" app? Old issue. You have to use the remounter app, then very quickly switch to RE or FM-HD and get r/w. Wait too long and you lose it.
Penalty for not having an unlocked bootloader.
You could try Zero-Null's root tool. Might work for you, and not as much overhead.
BThnd3r has a newer version of his tool also.
Zero-Nulls works better for me.
Then you can test your boot animations for compatibility.
I used ICS root 7, but I'll look at those other things and see if they'll fix my issues.

well it works now. =D
however i won't be sticking with it.
The animations are oddly paced, there are some typos, its Neurotoxin not 'neural toxins', and, well, GLaDOS just dosen't quite sound like GLaDOS.
i'm a stickler for details and storyline exact-ness and this just isn't perfect enough for my high standards =P
however i love the concept, and i look forwards to trying out any other Boot animations you come up with. There need to be more Porta-themed Boot Animations in this world =P
i'm still on the search for an epic BootAni that fits the ICS holo color scheme =P

I'm still rocking it. I dig the aperture logo and the CAKE!
Well, I hadn't finished (or even owned) at the time of making this, Portal 2, where players get to see more about her. While I don't want to reboot this animation, I wouldn't mind doing something better. I was super, super lazy when it came to the Aperture logo starting up, and I want the flicker to be more than me just turning the layer on and off intermittently.
However I am working on a few new ones, Portal themed, something generic with the ICS color scheme, as well as some that I'd just enjoy to make.
I managed to get a build of XBMC working on Tegra2's including the A500.This only works for SD content currently and hardware decoder support will be necessary to get 720p and 1080p support.
Please note the Tegra2 is an unsupported platform currently.
DO NOT post builds to VANILLA builds. They WILL NOT run on Tegra2 devices.

Common Problems:
If you receive a flickering screen after the update, clear the application cache and reboot the device. This may need to be done more than once.

Found it cool let me know if I can help in any way cheers wondering is audio choppy on your a100? Audio is choppy and video tends to get out of sync and a bit of stutter even on sd video. On the plus side the touched skin works well with this build
Awesome! Awesome!
Works like a charm on my A500. Installed some plugins and my fav NAVI-X. Its 3am and I need some sleep. So I will continue to play around with it over the next day or so.
XBMC on Android takes it to the next level on tablets
One thing I did notice was the volume level seems to be in the low side even after I cranked everything up.
srry to be ignorant but what exactly is xbmc for? is it just basically a media player?

I found the volume very low until I maxed it out and then went into XBMC. IIRC the XBMC volume is independent of the device volume. The xbmc volume also has a large number of levels, I find it easier to adjust the volume within the app by holding down volume up / down.

I have had good and bad success with SD content depending on container format, movement and other factors that tend to pop up with video encoding. 720p is close, it looks like the Tegra2 devices will need hardware decode support for 720p or 1080p based on the framerates I was seeing.
Can not run on WDS jellybean(CM10) ROM. It installed fine, but once started the application, screen flickered continuously.
Anyway, thanks for posting.

I had this issue myself at one point. I cleared the application cache and relaunched to fix the issue. Another user reported a similar problem that was resolved after rebooting the device.

Thank, I've gotten it to work. No more flickering of the screen, but now I can not seem to access my music and video from external SDcard. Do I need to copy my music and video to internal SDcard?
Thank again,

You need to add a source. When it pops up you will want to select "root filesystem" instead of "sdcard". This will let you navigate to the external sd card mount point. Usually somewhere under /mnt. In my case it is /mnt/external_sd on CyanogenMod.
Works great on my A500!
Great build already
Kinda works on my toshiba thrive have to tap a cupple times to get stuff to work
At the risk of sounding the fool, does anyone here know how to:
A.) Change the time zone. It says it's 1:47 AM tomorrow on my a500.
B.) Change the weather from celsius to farenheit? Here in the US, C is weird. I see 28 degrees & expect to need my snow shovel.
Thanks!

I believe these options are somewhere under the settings pages. The XBMC wiki has pretty good information on how to adjust the various settings.

Are you using the default skin or the touch optimized skin? The touch optimized skin does a better job than the default. However, they are still working out some quirks with touch.
Nice work

Anyone got this working on xoom. It starts up. Then crashes
This is an awesome start for this on the A500. If and when this works fast and efficiently on my tab, it will replace a lot of different apps I use to do the job that just this one can do For now, I will just keep tweaking it as best I can and see where I can go with it. Thanks to the folks working to make XBMC on the A500 a possibility.

It works good with usb mouse.
I've been using the Moto X for a few days now and getting increasingly frustrated with it because Motorola have removed/changed features in their not so "Pure Android" build.
At this point I've already requested Motorola to arrange a return.
My main gripes are 2 features that I used daily:
1. They appear to have removed internet calling from the dialer, I can no longer receive calls on my business SIP line without third party software.
2. The equaliser doesn't work with bluetooth headphones. This device actually makes Beats Studio Wireless headphones sound tinny. I've tried a couple of the "top rated' EQ apps but the Moto X still sounds inferior to the Nexus 5.
Could anyone with Lollipop possibly confirm if either of these standard features on a Nexus device are available in Moto X Lollipop?
Internet dialer is a nexus exclusive. Not sure about the equalizer on Bluetooth.
Have you tried side loading the nexus dialer? I believe there is a thread in the themes and apps section.

Google Dialer
I thing this is not a dialer issue. If you're rooted, unzip attached file and put it into the system/etc/permissions. Than change permissions of the file to rw-r-r. Find internet calling in your dialer menu and set credentials. If you succeed please leave the observations. Especially how the voice sound on the other end (possible distortion or echo).

This is a bit of an improvement from the default dialer, you get the caller id stuff but no internet calling.

I'll give this a try later and see if it works, fingers crossed as carrying 3 phones around is a massive pain!
Im on lollipop. Don't see SIP options in dialer. Google voice is an option for internet calking ,as its integrated into hangouts now.
As far as EQ, stock one doesn't do Bluetooth but I'm using this eq which does

Ive been having similar issues with my audio out, either in my car or with my headphones. The max output is considerably lower than my HTC 8X and overall i found it to be kind of flat even with a good EQ. Ive tried over 10 different EQ including using a local player like Poweramp that has good controls but it doesnt make any real difference.
Ive actually found a benchmark for audio out and it does seem that this phone is being held back. Music is a big part of the use for my phone so if i cant get it right I may also return mine. I have been doing some reading and it sounds like ViPER4ANDROID may fix the problem but you will have to root your device. Ive never done that before but XDA has a ton of very helpful resources so I am consider trying it.
the benchmark can be found over at Phone Arena, sorry im not able to post the link since im still a new user.

There's a workaround for native SIP here for moto g, i think it would work for moto x 2014,too.

I'm just waiting for Faux123 kernel once stable Lollipop is released

I thought the DAC was part of the the snapdragon 801 processor, both the M8 and moto x have the same 801
I've been quite busy and haven't had a chance to try any of the suggested solutions yet, but I need to send the phone back now so will try and check them out before I do.
The phone has grown on me and if it wasn't for the fact I just ordered another X on the Cyber Monday deal for £100 cheaper I would have kept it after all.
Have you been able to test the mod for SIP VoIP? I'm also missing this feature coming from my Nexus...
PS
Merry Christmas!
The lack of Bluetooth Audio EQ is pretty frustrating, I agree. I will try Viper4Android eventually but I worry that it might bypass the dedicated audio chipset, significantly increasing battery drain.
It's even worse with Lollipop, I was using Bass Booster Pro which worked great on Kitkat but is non-functional on Lollipop...
I've been using my Nexus 5 for listening to music as the Moto X fails miserably in this area.
I followed the instructions in this Moto G thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/general/mod-enable-native-sip-voip-calls-t2826500
and it unleashed the SIP VoIP features on my XT1095 a la Nexus!
I have successfully registered and dialed using my voip.ms account (too late to actually connect and talk... will do so in the morning). Note that the option dialog actually shows both the cellular operator by name as well as my voip.ms username for selection rather than just the Nexus generic options.
