I'm just curious to get some opinions on why most of you bought the Galaxy S Tab now instead of waiting for better hardware, Honeycomb or any of the other fated reasons to wait?
Also if you choose to speak up as to why, can you also include whether or not you got it with a contract?
Thanks
Okay here's my answer . I know of nothing coming down the line that is worth waiting for...
The Tab seems to play videos fine, so I have no need of a faster CPU.
The screen is nice, and since AMOLED has failed (thus far atleast) to live up to the power consumption hype, and since I'm not a fan of unnatural "glowing" colors that's not a feature I'm particularly interested in either.
New versions of Android are coming out all the time, so that's never a good reason to wait (would be waiting forever in that case). Also Samsung has said Gingerbread is coming for the Tab. What makes honeycomb more wait-worthy than whatever comes after honeycomb again? I don't miss any tablet-features on the Tab, and the reviews that keep mentioning that Froyo is not tablet-optimized strangely never really mention in what way that is the case. It seems to fit perfectly on a 7" tablet as far as I can tell.
Battery life is very good, obviously pretty much completely dominated by the screen, and I see no reason to believe that's going to improve by a huge margin in the near future.
7" is the perfect size (since it fits in my pocket both in pants and jacket). The Tab is my only phone and does that job very well for my needs. Again can't think of anything coming down the line that's particularly revolutionary here either. The Tab is the perfect form-factor for me.
So I would actually rather be inclined to ask the opposite question. What is coming soon that should have made me wait?
Edit: And yes I got it with a 1-year contract (in Norway). About the same total price as at retail (~$950), except the contract includes 100 MB data per month for free.
Time is all you have in your life, the sooner you get it, the longer you can enjoy it . If you wait, when should you get one because there always will be better one and cheaper too in your future. Also, I predict when Android is optimized for Tablet, no tablet will have phone capability even though not many people like this big of a phone.
I had a galaxy S. Liked the phone but too many problems. The fact I sold my Galaxy S and only paid an extra £40 for my Tab that doesn't have the problems that plague the Galaxy S made it all worthwhile. Plus 7" screen doesn't hurt
Cause I cant stand the Ipad and its big brother attitude.
Because I'm very impatient
I am not an apple fan although I like the idea of the ipad I could never buy an apple. The ipad was to big for my needs, where as the tab is just the right size. I love the android os even though I have only used it for a month now
My need for a tab is to play movies and music, read emails, eboooks, surf the web and txt. This tab does all of this and much more.
I had the opportunity to do some overtime, the cash from which paid for my tab sim free.
And I love it.

My reasons
Ditto all of the above.
Had a tosh folio for a week, quite nice but screen poor and toshiba forgot to mention it wasn't finished! Waited for vega for too long and from what I have seen on the modaco thread today, I am glad I didn't.
Kept playing with the tab and my one concern, the price, got sorted when it dropped to £440.
It is great and i love it(but not in a sexual way!)
If I could pay $650 for a 7" phone/video/camera/music/web/eBook reader/navigation/tether and my two kids could enjoy it (playing zoodles) with me then I would do it Plus the fact that 7" is very comfortable in my hand vs a bigger size tablet.
I have the lightest, I believe, 13" laptop (2.9lbs) and the kids still want the tablet. Do I need it? No. Do I want it? Yes
I'm just a tech enthusiast and knew there was enough hype within the hacker community to expect that this thing would see some awesome howebrew ROMs and improvements in the near future. I like to mess around with my gadgets rather than settle for what features they came with. Waiting for honeycomb is no big deal for me either. This things works great as it is and cant wait until the first custom ROM gets released which I feel is just around the corner.

I got mine on Sprint. It was $400 if you signed a contract.
So far I love this thing. It's size is perfect for everything when you are at home.
I love anything tech related and I think the Tab has something really good going for it.
It was the right timing for me. I was looking into the HTC Desire HD while i was travelling in Taiwan. I found I love Android (compared to iPhone OS) when i had the HTC Desire. But i "desired" a larger screen. As well, i use the phone mainly for work. When I noticed the Tab had cellular capability, i decided to look for it instead of the Desire HD.
The 7" screen, portability, quick performance and great screen size (for my old eyes) was the payoff.
I dont have a contract as i bought it outright from a local taipei store.

This guy speaks the truth.
You never know when you are going to die (seriously). You can walk outside the door right now, get hit by a car (god forbid) and die. Lighting can hit you when you least expected. A tree can fall down on you. You can get sued by someone else. You can get framed for something you never did. You can get robed. So many things can happen when you least expect it.
So get your Galaxy Tab now before its too late.

Lets hear it for the early-adopter mantra!
And by the way, one reason Apple does so well is that there is a veritable ARMY of early-adopters who then sing the praises so that the wafflers and fence-sitters feel comfortable making a decision..or rather, having that decision made for them.
There's a certain comfort in that, and a certain amount of common sense, but if we were ruled by common sense, we'd still be banging rocks together as race.
man to me this is the best device out there right now,and this is coming from a dude that had every ihone/ipad that apple made.my last apple garbage was the iphone 4,i got tired of steve and apple telling me what i can and can't do with my device that i paid for,i was able to do more with my galaxy tab right out the box when i got did not even have to root/jailbreak it lol.i got the euro model unlock man i will never buy an other apple device ever again, and i hope some one here from sumsung is reading these comments on how not to **** with your customers on the next tab that they make.give us the full functions of the device or you will lose customers just like apple.
I'm going to be totally honest, I bought the Tab just for the hell of it. I wasn't in the market for a tablet, Ipad, Netbook or laptop I just happen to be at Best Buy and ran acrosss the Tab that they had on display. After doing that for about 2 mins I told the rep to get it for me. I also have the Evo and while I love my phone, the Tab is getting a little more love from me. Once Samsung comes out with the new Tab with better specs and the Amoled display im selling this one and get that. Until then I will continue to enjoy my purchase.

at least you have something to look forward at having at Christmas.
I got mine now because I waited long enough for it. I'm sure there will be other awesome tablets that will be cheeper with honeycomb and whatever else will come out but looking at how it is with every other device there will be a way to get those on here too.
I was sick and tired from my WM6.5 device. I had the Samsung Giorgio Armani.
I waited for a Samsung Galaxy with hardware keyboard. Then came the Galaxy Tab and I went to the shop and the moment I was using it I told the sales person I wanted to buy it. Still getting used to the Android environment but loving every moment.
Still looking for a way to get the left and right arrows on my keyboard and all would be perfect.

Hi
I just want to share this amazing software named Tvpaint Still is in beta but it has advanced tools. The Note is perfect for this software.
Download
This is an app from hell. I haven't seen the desktop version but, for sure looks like a full OS application on Android to me...
IMO, looks really complicated for the simple tools needed for sketching and drawing...
Secondly, if this app makes a full debut, I don't think this app will be cheap. The full desktop version costs around $500 bucks, so we'll see. The app has a time-bomb so it's only useable to November 30th (I think).
Ron
This app is my main workhorse for now, but I'm also not too hopeful on the price after it comes out of beta. Good chance I'll just make do w/ SKM and LayerPaint on my Note, w/ CS5 on my desktop to handle the remaining heavy lifting. Adobe really dropped the ball on PS Touch for this device.

I've grown quite fond of LayerPaint, TVP is just too difficult to get used to for me, so many buttons. I just wish there was something like SAI with editable vector lines.

You say all of this like a critic--- an artist ( like this one<----) spends nearly 70-90% of their income on supplies to 'create', or to breathe life into their vision--- case in point: I spent my last paycheck on this device on Monday. So I'm eating beans and rice for two weeks, so what? This is the first production-level mobile device available. Certainly superior to iPad.
Too complicated??? Do you not see it's animation software? I'd buy this app even it it were $50-$100. It may very well be one of the first 'full-OS' applications on android. Celebrate, don't complain!
And useable till Feb 2013....
EEYORE, please try not to shoot down other people's fun and excitement.... I was dumb enough to not look this up the other day because of your having poo-pooed it....
Along with the critics negative ratings of this tablet (personally I think they're being paid by apple) I hereby refuse to listen to any of you nay-sayers.
Thanks OP for the AWESOME score! This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for!!!
Will post first project once I get through the learning curve.

I'm not even close to a "pro" so I wont be needing it, but I'm wondering what can be done with it.
Damn, this seems to be hell of a software... and definitely too professional for me without tutorials ^^
Would like to see whats possible with this app.
Though they could have given it a more polished/modern look, not that super-old windows style.

One thread in a forum I read suggest that it will cost $500+. It seems you buy a license for one install per all supported OS's. Example purchase of one license allows one copy on a mac desktop and one more on an ubuntu laptop. So if you already own a windows, mac or linux version you would get the android for free. When pushed for an answer the guy representing TVpaint was not much help. I read this a little while ago things may have changed since then.

I'm sorry if you thought I was jelly pooping all over the thread. I was just mentioning the fact that this is not an app; this is a full desktop software application on Android. I'm pretty sure this will be a really good app for the professional (like you). I assume that you do art work for some sort of living...
Now, I'm just a regular sketch monkey. And there are many like me; and I can't believe you don't seem to agree that this app has WAY too many buttons and menus... I like simplicity, even for my line of work - I'm an accountant. Again, sorry if my comments stepped on your hate pet.

It'd be great to see an animation app with the simplicity of Corell Painter.
Not a hater here, just all I saw in your post was "not good enough"---hence the Eeyore comment. Lets be friends, mKay?
I make enough to scrape by, but yes, my artistic/creative endeavours fund my meager existence. The curve is steep on tvpaint, and it'd be tough to swing a $500 software purchase, so I'll get what I can done with it while its in beta.
Checking out layerpaint
GT-P6800
GT-N8013
A single user license for TVPaint is 1180 € (~$1500) for the Pro edition and 495 € (~$640) for the standard edition. Students can get a discount.
Since the app seems to want to fully emulate the desktop version, you might assume that they'd use the same pricing for an Android app. I'm not so sure of this - they could well introduce all-new pricing for mobile - but it's a possibility. I wouldn't however bet that you would get it for less than a couple of hundred.
I always like more and more competition since its better for the consumer. Just that the idea of buying the HTC One scares me regarding future support (updates / warranty / resale value) :-/
I loved my nexus one... but I'm sure we can all agree that HTC has been in a rough stretch sales wise. Less sales starts the bad spiral of less money -> less marketing -> less customers -> less pull with carriers -> less R&D -> less user base -> less accessories -> less support etc.
I guess I'm the only one that's worried to buy from a company that seems to be on its last hope
Of course the loyalists will flame me because they are protective of HTC's image and that's ok (because I can appreciate being a fan). But is there anyone else out there that has had this worry about buying the One as well? I'd like to hear your thoughts even if they are negative

I can agree with being purchase off eventually. But in the meantime, like a bleeding wounded animal, they would cut spending at various key departments in order to stave off having to be bought out... which cuts into the HTC One marketing and customer base, limiting the resale demand and market share for that phone.
Also if they are bought out / merged is there any thing guaranteeing a past 1 year, out of warranty repair could be given if needed? Say your 1 day out of warranty and your battery completely dies.

Being maliciously poisoned by someone or any other random car accident/plane crash type example is different than trying to make a calculated decision about an electronics purchase.
That would be like telling someone who is weighing the risks versus benefits of buying a particular stock "Ah who cares? you might get poisoned at Starbucks anyways."
I have used no smartphones BUT htc since the ppc6700 and I won't be buying the one. First and foremost I'm just pissed at the game htc pays with source code being released right before or after a version becomes replaced. Going with s4 if the fabled mastodon nexus 5 doesn't come to fruition in short order. I think the one is pretty much a one x with stuff removed (a button here, an sd card there) in that respect it's aptly named although it becomes a bit confusing. One x s v and now just one?

I think you can be confident that this phone's lifespan will last at least as long as HTC will...part of that's unfortunately because HTC doesn't exactly have a fantastic history of supporting their own devices, but developers certainly do, and I have a feeling the One will be at least as popular with the dev community as the One XL was - and I think the XL still has a good, long life ahead of it.
So, even if HTC vanishes from the face of the Earth, devs will keep it alive :good:
Being someone who bit the bullet with Palm/HP webOS, I think that threads like these are ridiculous. If you like the phone, why does it matter? I received a number of replacement Palm Pres through my carrier even after Palm was bought out. If there is an issue with the One it will likely be handled the same way. As for resale value... If it lasts you two years you have effectively paid about 25 bucks a month assuming it costs 600 bucks. I think the One will probably be worth that to me, and that is assuming you won't get a penny in resale value.
Maybe I'm alone in this, but the phone you use every day has to be worth something to you, and maybe if the One isn't worth 25 bucks a month for two years, you could return it and get a GS4 or wait for something else instead of worrying about what it will be worth when you're done with it.

My apologies. As a die hard htc customer, I thought that my opinion might be reflective of the mistakes they might be making that you seem concerned about. Actually HTC has great update track record. I think only Asus is better. I would be more scared of buying Sony or Samsung. Especially for all the rumors that Samsung is leaving Android in favor of their own OS.
And don't forget that HTC decided to only have 1 flagship device they will update faster.
And HTC must have a lot of money left because in Germany their commercials are everywhere. And they are major UEFA sponsor. Only biggest company's can afford that.
And as it looks HTC One is selling like crazy right now. Not at all strange as almost all reviewers love it and praise it.

Yep. I also worry about future support. HTC is notorious for slow updates

Like I said before HTC is not in a state where they are losing their business. They're just having lesser profit(income) compared to the past years. Now if anybody here thinks that $36million income in a quarter of a year is small then give me $1million on my paypal account right now lol!
And yeah having lower profit on the 1st quarter is expected by HTC.
1. They haven't released new phones.
2. They made budgets for the release of their HTC One(Where do you think they would get their budget for it?)
3. Obviously their past phones did really not sell out.
Now with the HTC One coming I'm pretty sure their profit would surge out this 2nd quarter. To think their stocks now jumped in by +9.65% they are obviously earning big time on the HTC One right now even considering it's not yet widely released and lack of availability.

I know the feeling. I was prepared to pay the $830 but when I looked today I grabbed one for $625.
People don't think about it, but 40,000 devices for $32,000,000 is $800 per device. Every one they sell less than that they're losing money on.

I think there's a lot of people thinking this. Once it gets closer to the required amount and its a more feasible possibility that the phone will actually be made there will be more people to jump on board. That's what I was thinking until I found out that the funders got a refund if it didn't meet the goal. Once I knew that then I jumped on because I don't want people not buying the device because they're waiting for the number to get higher. There just isn't much logic behind that when you'll either get the phone or a full refund. The longer you wait, the more you risk having to pay more for the device.
Sent from my One X
Yep - I jumped on board too $32million is a big target though - hopefully when it beats the pebble smartwatch funding record ($10mil) people will take it more seriously.

Fortunately there seem to be lots of good samaritans that are pledging lower amounts for no reward - basically subsidising the phone for the rest of us!

Every little bit helps. If this phone gets funded then they'll release another next year that maybe you can jump on. If this phone doesn't get made then there's no knowing how long it'll take for a device like this to be made again.

Would it be against XDA policy to make a thread such as this in the Android and Windows Phone general sections? I didn't think of it till you mentioned it, but just because its in those threads doesn't mean people aren't interested. We're not forcing the phone on anyone, just wanting to bring it to light. I've used all of my social networking connections to promote this device.

Paid 860 dollars and got 205 dollars in discount the day after. Win
If they're not far from making it by the last days, I can give them the 205 dollars to make sure they go through with it. 830+30 dollars is still a good price for that phone.
I found this post on CL NY and thought you guys might enjoy it.

And also a copy/paste of ad:
(Note 3, AT&T, BLACK trade for iPhone 5****, 32GB, BLACK, Sealed!)
Ok fiends check this out.
I've seen a lot of posts on here about this same trade so here are MY rules.
1. Don't down play my Note like the iPhone 5**** is some glorified, advanced piece of equipment with your "even trade + cash" offers. The minute your 5**** can do half the stuff mine does and last twice as long, then we can talk a "+ cash" deal.
2. The Note 3 have yearly releases, not something seasonal like Apple does. So you'll have the latest Note 3 for a whole ****ing year. Your 5**** will probably be outdated by the Spring.. but you know this already.
3. My batteries lasts me a whole day and I'm a Banker. I live on my phone. You're on FB and IG and it only runs for 4 hours before you need to pull out you short-corded charger to get some life back in your iPhone 5****.
4. Let's be honest for a minute and admit that Apple died with Steve Jobs. I get it, you still have "Hope"..but this isn't Cancer and you're not Steve Jobs, Apple is dying. Be smart with your investments and admit that Samsung is now leading in technology with super advanced products.
To conclude, my Note 3 is better than your iPhone 5**** but I am willing to do a special person the favor and exchange my precious, mint, not a single scratch on the screen phone for your piece of crap iPhone 5**** SEALED! Yes. And proof of receipt. Other than that, I am perfectly happy with my phone, can live with my phone until Apple releases a new one. It's your choice.
My Note will come with the box, case, new screen protector and charging cord, and the s-pen tips with the pen included.
Email me, serious inquiries only.
He's right about this - "Apple died with Steve Jobs".
I'm confused if his gn3 is so rad why doest he want an "I ****"?

Perhaps he wants a phone that fits in his pocket. I'm not hating on the n3 but it'll be entering our family because my wife wants it. I'd personally go s4 but even that's abnormally large now that I think of it does Samsung have a high powered small device?

That ad was classic, I wonder many people trolled him though...
This prob belongs in the n3 ot section though.
That was funny. As for fitting in the pocket, I sometimes forget that the phone is in my pocket, it's soo thin.

Big? When I'm not using the N3 it's in its holster. Hardly notice it unless I'm buckling the seatbelt in the driver's seat.
If I'm in a situation where I'm on and off it, it's in my shirt pocket. With my glasses, pen and usually a couple of other little things. (And, no, I don't have shirts with mailbags sewn on.)
But when I need a large screen, or a fast CPU, or loads of storage (not even counting the SD card), I have it.
The original CL listing was from NY? Makes me a bit ashamed to have come from NY.

Lol I'm from Syracuse, grew up in Minoa until I was about 5, I still have family that live in Fayetteville. My mom was telling me she went shopping there a few weeks ago. I used to go to the Fayetteville mall when I was a kid before it turned into a car dealership or whatever, ate at the friendlys at least once a month and used to feed the Ducks and birds and **** at the little town pond thing. Lol learned how to swim at Green lakes. Lol got a lot of roots there. Real pretty little town.
Nice to see a fellow CNY'er here.
I don't understand, if the iPhone sucks so much then why would you want to trade for one? Maybe he just regrets his choice?
Wow...how is this satirical Craigslist add missed by so many of you smart dudes?
