Was using this app, then long press on home button to search from Google now. Phone froze, screen went black and just left the keyboard open. Couldn't do anything apart from a battery pull. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come!

Never happened to me on the S5 yet but it happened for me some times on the nexus 7 2014 while using chrome (only on kitkat). Guess its a general problem that can happen in android since KitKat. Hope google can fix it asap.
Hasn't happened to me, would be sad if it did since it's new, and hope it never will (yeah right...)

Good to know!
There is no need for breaking your fingers by pressing all buttons, just hold the power button as long until it restarts

That sucks. Let us know if it happens again and how.
happens to me all the time, very annoying. The screen just goes black but the background apps continue to work (at least half the time anyway).

ALL the time? I wouldn't have had the patience to keep with it and probably have sent it back or something...

I saw a thread on this for the Vibrant but that method doesn't seem to work for the Fascinate.
On the G1 you could hold down the call+Menu+hangup and it would reboot.
On the Vibrant you apparently can hold the power button down for 10+ seconds and it reboots.
Anyone know what it is for the Fascinate?
if it takes 10+ seconds to reboot wouldn't it just be faster to turn it off then back on?
well if your phone freezes it's much easier to hit a combo of buttons instead of pulling the battery. and if it freezes u wouldn't be able to reboot normally. plus it's much quicker when you're installing roms as it's an instant reboot and doesn't have to kill everything

if it freezes whats to say the button combo would work either? seems like if the normal shutdown and boot up isnt working your best real option is to remove the battery.
why the hell don't we have a reboot option when we hold the power button down?
Is there a way to add that?

On the G1 if it froze, the button combo did a reset. No need to pull battery I liked that feature a lot.
When I used to have my BlackBerry there was a key combo to reset it. Wish my Fascinate had one too. Then again, I dont usually have to reset my Fascinate as often as I did my BB.
the phone surely had more than 90% battery.
received a call like an hour back.
the phone does not turn on now.
If plugging it in and resetting it doesn't work, then you need to put your SIM card in to a different phone and start up the RMA process.

Thank You. Its working now.
What did you do to get it working again? And are you rooted and/or on a custom kernel?
thanks!
You have to hold in the power button for a longer than normal time to get it to reboot. Usually about 10 seconds should do it to get it to reboot. Any device without a removable battery, like the Samsung Galaxy Tabs, work the same way.

You should only have to hold in the power button but whatever works is good.
It was probably still turned on but frozen in a bad state - you might have a misbehaving app that you need to look in to. Glad it started working again!

Can you explain more about this? Over the weekend my phone freezes while sleeping and would not wake up, had to reboot every time. I just want to know if this is because of apps or the phone itself.
I did however, uninstalled Nova Launcher, and haven't experience anything since then. Can anyone confirm that it is the apps and not the phone?

I am current using PA mar11 build with franco r102 kernel.
I have issues bringing the menu up when you hold the power button. My power button is not broken, because after a restart (using power toggles) it works again.
Happens randomly. I have searched the forums and have not seen anyone mention this, has anyone else experience this?
Update: Do a fresh wipe, problem will go away
What issues do you have exactly? I mean, what exactly do you see when you long-press your power button?

after a long-press no menu comes out and my screen turns off like I pressed it normally.
I have the exact same problem, except that my nexus 4 isn't rooted and I can't use toggle buttons to restart. So basically I cannot restart my phone unless i let the battery running out or i reset the phone.
Weird... I just got this too... restart and it's working again... but for how long.... and I never would have noticed if I wasn't trying to take a screenshot!

I have exactly the same problem running slimrom 6.5 and anarkia kernel.
After a reboot the reboot menu always comes up. After a while it doesn't work anymore. Turning on/off the screen always works, the problem only affects long press.
Has anyone a sultuion for that?

Did anyone find a solution to this problem?
My Nexus 4 is now having this same issue
I thought I was the only one! It happened after a bit of rain with my phone in the pocket and I thought that was the cause but after holding it down and seeing it reset I see that it is not. Wonder why this is happening.
Note: I am running completely stock 4.3 at the moment with a locked bootloader, but this has also happened on 4.2.
I got this issue with franco kernel. putting back the original kernel fixed the issue for me. I was able to reproduce the problem with another nexus 4 phone. there's maybe a config to tweak or i'm messing something up.

I no longer have this issue. The fix: fresh wipe

Sometimes when i push the home button it opens the multitasking windows although i didnt do a long push. It happes sometime and it really annoys me.
If someone knows how to solve it please tell me.
Thanks,
Eden
By the way, dont tell i dont know to push a short push beause this is NOT the problem. I gave it to some friends and it happened to them too.
Your button is sticking. When you press it it does not come up fast enough.
Did you get any juice or sweat in the button ?

If it is trutly a physical defect with the home button your best but most annoying option is to take back the phone and have it changed with a new one.
Another thing to do is to do a factory reset (just in case there is a software bug causing the button to act this way)
Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk 2
This are my last options. I dont want to replace my phone neither to wipe it.
If you someone encounter this problem please help me.
Thanks
I have the same problem with my phone. Runing stock ROM.
The home button will trigger the task manager upon waking up the phone. This is driving me absolutly crazy. I hate lock screens and passwords just to get to the home screen.
Once the home screen is up this behavior stops.
I just tested the time it takes to hold the home button and launch the task manager alongside with my old Galaxy S2 and the latter needs a longer hold on the button.
The home button is not sticky, it has a normal feel and click.
Please help
Actually my problem i not at the waking up of the phone but in the home screen or in any app.
HELP
Just made an account because I'm having the exact same issue and was wondering if you were able to fix it at all because this happened to my phone very suddenly so I'm wondering if it's a software issue.. Please reply.
One thing I noticed is that this never happens when I'm on the home screen, only when have an app open. Also, it doesn't feel like the button is sticking by any means. My phone is a week old..

I'm having this same issue. When I'm at the home screen it doesn't "stick", but only when I'm in an application. What's up with this behavior? It's a recent development. Could this be a software issue? I have a Verizon S4 and it hasn't had a software update at all yet.
Any solutions, or maybe there's an app we all have that is causing this?
UPDATE
I've made this happen on the home screen, usually by pressing near the middle of the home button, however this only starts happening after the phone has been on for a while. I'm so confused as to whether this is a hardware or software issue, or maybe a combination of both.

The home button problem was gone for a while, but a week ago, it came back and I decided to call T-Mobile. They immediately said it was a software issue and recommended me to do a factory reset. So I did and it seems to be working perfect now, haven't had the home button sticking or giving any problems for about a week now.you should definitely give that a try.hope it helps.
hey guys.
I switched some ROMs after that and it solved the problem. I can only assume it is a software bug.
try upgrading to the newest version(I use 4.3)
Hope you will all solve it as i did.
Hi everybody. My cellphone has started to be weird. The top of the screen became very hot. I am not playing game, I only do internet surfing. With that, my battery is dead after 10 hours with 1h30 screen open.
Also, when I put an alarm, he dose'nt sound. My phone is completly stock. What I should do? Should I got a replacement?

Just do a factory reset from the recovery menu. When turning on the phone press and hold the power and volume up button. It may take a little playing around with it to figure out when to let go, but a little blue bunch of text at the top left will say booting recovery or something similar.

This doesn't sound like something that a factory reset would fix. I would like to know though. That would be wicked awesome if it did.
I'm thinking it's some app malfunctioning on the phone. I'm sure the OP figured it out or he would have posted back saying it didn't work for him.
