[Q] Galaxy S5 G900f LTE support - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I am using Samsung Galaxy S5 G900f. I was wondering if my phone supports LTE/4G ? My network opperator still doesn't have 4G network, that is confirmed info, BUT does my phone support it? For example if I went somewhere where there is 4G support and insert that SIM card (I unlocked my phone with codes). I did get the S5 through my carrier so is it also possible that since my carrier does not support 4G they could have ordered S5 without LTE/4G since it wouldn't have point to have it if the network doesn't support it? Is there a way I could check if the device itself has support for LTE? I network modes I do not have LTE.
My network operator: mt:s Serbia
Country: Serbia
This is my first post to XDA EVER and virst post on any forum in a few years probably so excuse me if I made some mistakes and sorry, also sorry for my bad english.
Help?

The G900F version is the internatioal LTE variant, so yes, it supports 4G/LTE. Inserting a SIM with a 4G plan will work.
If you can't see/select LTE mode it may be because you got a specific carrier rom. Changing your rom to an open country on should enable it once more.

Thank you! That's a relief. Won't change rom yet because of warranty and no LTE here either way but good to know.
Thank you again.

Yes, it supports LTE.
You're not seeing the LTE option under network modes because the option is disabled for your Carrier, thus it will not show up when you have your SIM inserted.
If your carrier does not have LTE yet, then it is turned off in the firmware by Samsung for your carrier SIM. If you were to insert a SIM from a carrier that has LTE, you may be able to use it. (Depending on how long they've had LTE and if it was enabled. Each carrier has to be enabled in a list.)
Enabling it is done via firmware update.

Do you have LTE menu option on your One? (not EE customers)

I am on Three UK, and although LTE is not rolled out yet, I was surprised that the LTE menu options do not appear at all. For example, why wouldn't I have this option in case I roamed to a foreign country that provides LTE to roamers.
In the network options I only have
WCDMA only
GSM/WCDMA auto
I know those on EE have another option for LTE.
Supposedly LTE and 3G SIMs are the same. In fact Three will provide free LTE access later this year automatically and without any administrative changes.
Could others confirm, if they are not on an LTE network, whether they see the LTE option on the phones network settings?
I think the phone only shows the option to turn LTE on or off if it detects LTE on your network so it should appear automatically once Three launch LTE
I agree! I decompiled Settings.apk of the HTC One and the network selection option uses RadioInfo class to determine what should be shown on the menu. In fact I can even see CDMA & EV-DO there.
Excellent. Perfect answers. Thank you. For some reason I had it stuck in my head that it was based on the SIM provisioning. I should have realised that it is based on the capabilities of the network you are currently connected to rather than a provisioning option.
I have LTE option on mine, got it on vodafone contract from p4u though the phone is sim free/unlocked.

Well done for finding that as it is buried in the P4U thread! Hopefully this thread will help others who wonder why they do, or do not, see LTE options in their menu!

No. LTE bands in the US are way different compared to the LTE bands all around the world. I'm not sure about LTE Cat 3 though.

In reviews I keep seeing HSPA and LTE versions, which led me to believe there are models without the chip needed for 4G.
There is no answer on this though so I'm not going to rush to buy one until I know.

Do you have any other sim(Must not have LTE on it's network) you could try inserting?
GSM / WCDMA / LTE auto

Oh crap Now that looks like a sign that it should have LTE option nomatter what sim you insert.
By the way could you tell me what's your baseband version?

Most likely your network isn't supporting it yet.
My old S4 was the same until O2 released 4G, then there was an update which enabled it.

What software version do you have right now?
The Note shows LTE selection depending on which provider SIM card is inserted.
That seems to be the reason, why so many CSC versions are released.

Untrue my friend, depending on the software and which provider released it (if any) they disable or enable it. I have 2 note 3's (one for development) exact same 4g sim one has 4g enabled the other not because of the firmware version.
Also if it IS enabled on he firmware and you DONT have a 4G sim it also will not show up so you are half right.

Read thru my thread -- you'll probably have to do the same changes to CSC's and then reset the CSC code.

That's what I meant. I have DBT CSC, and only if I insert a SIM of a provider which does not yet have an LTE network, the LTE selection ist not shown. There's no such thing as an LTE SIM here. If one's network has officialy LTE at all, then it still depends on your contract and dataplan, if you can log into LTE, or remain in 2G/3G, not on your SIM. The only network operator without LTE here is known to Samsung, thus all their SIMs cause the ROM not to show LTE selection.

US Cellular Note 4 SIM Unlocking

Hey all,
I recently got my Note 4 through US Cellular SIM unlocked and when I insert another SIM from AT&T or Tmobile, the phone accepts the SIM but there isn't any setting to change the phone to global mode in the network settings area, nor is there a way to change APNs. I cannot place calls on either Tmobile or AT&T with it, which I find odd since the phone doesn't reject the SIM. Does this version not have support for GSM bands or is it something to do with US Cellular's software that prevents it from connecting to United States GSM carriers? Is there a hidden setting that I need to get into to enable GSM use? Thanks all!

I also have bought a US Cellular Note Edge (not arrived yet) to use it in European GSM Networks. Phone was really cheap, so i thought i'll give it a try. Anyone have news on how to unlock GSM capabilities on this ? Maybe with a Rom from a GSM Edge ?

I recently spent some time on the phone with the executive assistant to the president uscellular and well I had no success in getting my phone unlocked if I understand correctly the phone is cable of gsm also. If anyone would like I can give you the number 4 this lady name Karen and you can bring her directly. I also spoke with several members of the presidents executive Support technical service and they all indicated that the machine would have to be taking it into the store to be unlocked. the weird thing was that the machine is not blacklisted, stolen nor gained in any ill gotten way but yet all with one accord further said that it would be refuse for unlocking without giving any good reason. I understand the company was sued in court and lost the battle to not unlock their phones and this seems to not affect them only one to one basis. I will find a solution to this and I will share it. I would be grateful for any help in doing meanwhile.

Hey, everybody. I hope I'm able to help... and in turn, I hope someone is able to help me.
Supposedly... newer Qualcomm-powered Android phones are inherently capable of connecting to any CDMA or GSM network. However, the different bands are enabled/disabled per the carrier's specifications. For instance, I'm a Verizon customer, and I connect to bands 4 and 13 for LTE service. However, US Cellular devices do not have band 13 enabled by default.
All hope is not yet lost, though. There is a thread (which has since been closed due to trolling/bickering) that details a method to flash the Qualcomm chip to enable/disable bands as needed. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059 According to the information there... it seems that I'd be able to flash the CPU chip to enable band 13, and then I'd have support for all 1x / 2G / 3G / LTE bands that I'd need for Verizon. Likewise for T-Mo, Sprint, ATT, etc.
Now for my problem...
I have recently purchased a USC Note 4 (N910R4) from Amazon, though it was listed as a N910F, International Edition. It was listed as having been unlocked for use on any CDMA network. Unfortunately, the phone does not recognize my Verizon SIM, Verizon couldn't give me any information about the device, and a US Cellular support chat representative said I'd have to visit a store to check if the phone is actually unlocked. The closes USC store is several hours away in another state. The phone came with a USC SIM still in it... and it recognizes that SIM without a problem. I can't make phone calls, though... and no mobile data, either.
I had intended to use the International Version (N910F) and enable the correct bands per the thread above... and then activate the phone on my Verizon account... but the USC version should be close enough in band support that I'd be able to at least activate the phone. The USC phone supports band 4 LTE, and I get band 4 service where I'm sitting right now. If not that, the 2G and 3G band support are identical, I believe. So, I'm just doubtful that I'll be able to activate the phone just yet.
Can anyone shed light on how to verify that my new phone is actually carrier/SIM unlocked? I was hoping I'd be able to get someone to query a database of unlocked MEIDs, but for some reason, I am supposed to go to a store. I can't even call.
Any help is appreciated.

I share all your concerns sir. I too have not learned yet how to determine if USC nope for exactly carrier locked or no but I am of the firmest belief based on what I've learned from USC at various levels up to the Presidents executive team that it is indeed carrier locked. I cannot answer for yours then I believe that all under phones come in one of the two varieties and I am convinced even after the court ruling against them that they I have no intent to unlock a phone by less than forcesure. Furthermore I have no confidence that the store they may send you to has any unlocking abilities. According to the executive team that does this work in reality you must in the machine into them and prove its worthwhile to be unlocked. In my case well they cannot prove there is any malfeasance, they still choose to err on the side of caution and refuse to accept any proof then I have of the machine purchased new complete and clean but from a second party. They furthermore refuse to contact the locals that originally sold the phone and truthfully are the first corporation that ever more me so thin that I chose to unlock the bang bang myself. I remain as giddy as a schoolboy hoping to hear more good news from this post. I'm confident then I currently have the knowledge to fix the phone but do not currently have the time. I will happily update I'll with my success be crying the Blues at my failure soon.

Has anyone got any further with this? I've just bought a US cellular note 4 and my APN settings are greyed out. I'm assuming that US cellular will be difficult to deal with to get the phone unlocked especially if it has been bought from a third party. Has anyone had any luck with getting there's unlocked?
Hi!i set my Note Edge to say on Network mode:GSM/WCDMA/LTE but i can't place calls etc...has anyone an idea to make it work?
use z3x box to unlock it
To whom might be concern;
Make things short, NO, you cant use USC Note 4 on any US carrier if u look at the spec. The phone support only some GSM850 and FDD LTE band 5 (850mzh). And att/tmobile 2g voice is on gsm1700/2100 and LTE band is not match....... So that being said you are buying note 4 as Samsung Player and only good with USC and somewhat Verizon(need to hack for it to work, and stillike not all feature will work). Hope answer most you guy question

I've still got the USC Note 4. My son uses it on wifi and to watch videos that we load to local storage. In other words... no sim card installed.
If I manually update the phone to 6.0.1... what will I gain being that I'm a Verizon customer? Is the only difference that 1 band of LTE will be inaccessible? Would it actually start working for calls and some data with a verizon sim?
The whole "reprogram other-carrier Qualcomm phones to work on Verizon's bands" is frequently debunked as chasing a unicorn in the verizon forums.
Further... is the same applicable to newer phones? Could I get a newer (note 5/7) USC phone with android 6.x+ to work with verizon? (Unlocked bootloader would be my only reason to try)
Thanks!

Carrier Aggregation on S7 Edge Exynos Unlocked version (SM-G935F)

I recently bought an S7 edge unlocked SM-G935F Exynos version. I am currently using it on T-Mobile and have VoLTE and WiFi calling after flashing the TMobile CSC. However, I cannot get the right bands working for Carrier Aggregation. When I go into ServiceMode, the only CA combinations showing are :
7C(A)
7A-7A(A-n)
There's nothing about bands 2, 4, or 12 that T-Mobile uses. I've tried using various ROMs and CSC tools to try to get the correct bands for CA to show up but nothing. Does anyone have any insight on how to get this enabled? I saw something a year old on reddit but the details were a little vague.

Tried what was mentioned in that article. It didn't work. No idea why the CA is also only showing Band 7 when T-Mobile only uses 2,4,12.
What's even more strange... I brought the phone overseas to Taiwan last week, popped in a Chunghwa Telecom SIM, and all CA band combos for LTE bands 3,7,8,28 showed up without any issues and the phone was lightning fast.

Check with another US SIM card and see if the T-Mobile card's behavior or the Taiwanese one is replicated.
Try with a Metro, Cricket or AT&T card.
Also, on which network was this phone previously used? Because I am not sure if I'm right but if it was used with a CDMA network, it might not work with GSM US networks (not sure about it tho).

I know the previous owner on Swappa said that he used the phone with Cricket, but no clue if he checked if CA was working. Also I thought the Exynos varieties didn’t have any support for CDMA.

Exynos on AT&T or T mobile

Does anybody use the exynos varient on AT&T or T-Mobile? I'm wondering if you get good service. I'm currently using an exynos S8+ on AT&T without any problems.
i had s9 duos exynos on att. excellent reception. im located in Boston.
Download speedtest to check your data/wifi speed
Thank you for the information. I looked up the S9 exinos on frequencycheck.com. It supports 3 out of the 4 4g bands on AT&T. According to the website the s10 exynos only supports 2 out of 4. So that doesn't help too much but I never thought about checking the s9 since I know it works well.
Works great for me. I got an Exynos from Australia when my phone died. Checked the bands for SM-G975F, and it has all the T-Mobile LTE bands EXCEPT band 71. So you will be good unless you go into rural USA.
Only thing I don't get is Carrier Aggregation. I have wifi calling and VOLTE..
Thank you for the info. After looking up that model it should work fine on both networks. That website I was using has wrong info on some of the models. I think I will buy the SM-G975F.

I also have the G975 F(BTU - United Kingdom) I live in Milwaukee on ATT Network. I get great LTE Speeds - the only thing I don't get is Wifi Calling and ATT Video Calling - ATT only supports their phones for those features - at least until there is a custom CSC that we can flash (like someone did for the Note 9, S8Plus, etc)
Do you have VoLTE at least on AT&T with the exynos?

Thank you for the info. I want to keep AT&T but I would switch to T-Mobile to get the exynos variant if needed. But I'm glad I can keep my service. I had the original IPhone and I'm grandfathered in to the original unlimited data plan. I didn't even know AT&T offered wifi calling. Before my exynos s8+ I had a note 4 and for about a year my moms extra free IPhone 6. It wasn't an option back then. I don't really care about WiFi calling though. I get good service where it matters most. I can't wait for S10+ Roms!

I get limited carrier aggregation on my Exynos S10+ on T-mobile which helps a little. It still lacks the full CA support tho.

How do you check that? I check on my service menu and it says CA:None
I do see that I am sometimes connected to three of the same band at the same time.

First you download a file or run speed test using speed test app, then at the same time dial *#0011# and select SIM slot it'll say CA added or CA active. This means you're getting some form of aggregation

That's what I've been doing, but I don't see CA added or active. I wonder why mine doesn't even have CA on. Just CA none.

And you have the Exynos version correct? Try it in a different area away from your home and see if it activates. If nothing works, factory reset may help.

I am on Exynos, wouldn't have this problem with the SD version (I'd hope). I have factory reset a few times, but never see the CA as activated. I'll check from time to time, but also away from my house it doesn't show that CA is activated. Might be the XSF (australian) version that doesn't aggregate the t-mobile bands.

That could be it. I'm using TPA CSC and some other people on that CSC confirmed carrier aggregation working on T-mobile.
Snapdragon (Chinese or Hong Kong variant) does not support carrier aggregation in T-mobile from what a user posted.

Do you have a link to the post where it is CA is confirmed on TMO?
For which model the Chinese Snapdragon?
CA is working for me on Exynos. It is not the same as US Snapdragon CA but still better than no CA at all

Do you need to flash a CSC and/or modem from a US carrier onto an exynos international phone to get VoWIFI, CA, VoLTE, etc? Or does it "just work?" If you need a special CSC do you just pull HOME_CSC out of a US carrier's firmware and flash it with odin or something?

Hi
You should not flash any firmware from a Snapdragon into a Exynos..... You may not be able to get some of the service provider options using the Exynos firmware, i guess is a try and see situation, but one thing is for sure do not flash a Snapdragon firmware into an Exynos.
Everything else should work , modem is ready for all frequencies but CDMA
in case anyone comes looking, i've tried it on an exynos G973F with XSG csc (one of the OXM multi ones) just because that's what was on the phone.
VoLTE seems to be working on T-Mobile in the US without any messing around, based on the "HD" icon appearing during voice calls. Voice over WiFi seems to also work.
The phone is dual SIM with a TMO sim and an ATT sim. It doesn't get VoLTE on ATT, but I believe that's probably because AT&T only allows it on approved devices.
