hey everyone, I am about to release my rom (swag squad) and I was just wondering what features people REALLY want to see.
If you could just post what features you want to see I'll try and include every feature in the rom.
I know this may seem like a stupid thread but I think developers can be much better if people just tell them what they want.
Just post any questions in the thread and the rom will be released in the next 2 days or so.
thanks,
ljbaumer
gingerbread would be much appreciated.

Haha. at this point the rom is going to be 2.2 until a stable version of gingerbread is released for one of the "new"droid phones (Dx, D2, D2g, Dpro).
I am working on status bar controls on the pull down. Like on cyanogenmod and MIUI.
AOSP!!
Cool themes and icons instead of vanilla
thanks for the response,
The rom will be themed and it will have totally different icons than AOSP because in my opinion the AOSP icons are ridiculous.
The rom is based off of gummyjar right now but I will soon convert it to being based off of fission (gummyjar was originally based off of fission also). If tanzite turns out to be a completely stable AOSP alternative I will consider basing it off of that but at this point I have my doubts.
I am going to include the stock AOSP keyboard along with an HTC sense keyboard themed to look like the MIUI one and the controls in the status bar will not be released alongside the beta but should be out once the rom itself is out of beta.
Thanks,
ljbaumer
I'm not too worried about themes as I have a set 'theme' I kinda patch in to every rom I run but a black status bar with white text would be good as the default imo. Not sure if any of these would make it but here's a few things I would like to see:
Gingerbread Keyboard as main kb - The latest release of it as a standalone addon works very well on the D2 and the shrink effect is now gone
AOSP Lockscreen sliders
You mentioned the status bar icons already, but I'd love to see those in a rom on the D2
Have none of the google apps installed to the system by default, let users install them from the market or backups
And the impossible one for last!!! A battery manager that doesn't force close 50% of the time!
I have a few suggestions:
1. A charging light would be much appreciated, half the roms out there dont have it and its really an issue for me as I always think my phone is not charging.
2. Use the latest ADW (If that is what you are going to use), I dont like installing a new ROM and not having the choice to add or subtract screens or changing any launcher settings.
3. Have an alarm clock in by default. One of the main reasons I use fission is because I can still use the blur alarm with it, as I am not really impressed with any other alarm clock on the market.
4. Speed is always nice but without blur these phones run pretty smooth so im not too worried.
5. Make it work. This is kinda general but I just want a rom that I dont have to fiddle with to make it work. I agree with an above poster to leave everything out and just let us install it but things like the camcorder, GPS, USB etc are things that should work out of the box I dont want to have to wait for a new release so I can find my way through town.
Finally, thanks for helping out with these phones. I had to go to stock (Blur) for a little bit the other day and it just kills these phones people like you make me happy that I dont have to deal with a slow ass phone after spending 200 dollars on it.

One version of the rom will come out with a black status bar and one will come out with a white. Neither of them are the stock black and white bar but modded versions.
I will try and include the GB keyboard and I didn't know it worked by itself. If you or someone could post a link to it I will include it as soon as I can. I also include a MIUI themed HTC keyboard which I think works incredibly well.
The rom dosen't include battery manager because of force close issues but under settings-about phone-battery use- you can see all of the things that have been using up the battery in the same way.
I think it will have the GB sliders at the beginning once it is released but soon after I will switch over to stock AOSP sliders with a blue option.

1: at this point I don't really know how to include a charging light lol. But if you give me the link to a rom that includes one I can probably figure it out.
2: personally, I am a HUGE launcherpro fan but I understand that a lot of people don't like having to pay $2.99 for the extra features and the free version isn't that great so I may end up including ADW launcher+launcher2
3:I will use the blur alarm clock
4:there will be basically no blur except for: camera, camcorder ( i think blur camera and camcorder work much better), alarm clock, and files.
5: I don't really get what you mean by let you install GPS and USB...
Thanks for the feedback,
ljbaumer
Try basing it off of Ultimate Droid for D2 when the final stable is released. It's AOSP and RC2 is running damn well on my D2, minus GPS and camcorder.
i wish there was a way to get the iphone keyboard i know the market has lookalikes but they dont perform like the real one (thats the only thing i like about iphones btw) or to stick with android it would be fantastic to get the dinc sense keyboard if there was some way to make it work.

1. Fission is really the only one I know that has it.
2. I would really appreciate that.
3. Thank god.
4. Awesome. I completely agree
5. I just mean that some ROMs don't have the basics down. When I install your rom I want my phone to work. I dont mean that we should be able to isntall that stuff just that it works.

Iphone keyboard would be hard because it uses a different file type for applications and I would have to spend forever porting that over and I would probably need to finish learning java and the android APIs (which I am working on).
The sense keyboard is a themed droid inc keyboard and it will end up using the gingerbread keyboard and the sense keyboard will be a second option.

i would love to have status bar controls on the pull down!!!, oh and rotary lock screen, thats pretty much all i would like, it should be smooth, fast, and sleek
status bar controls are not the easiest thing to port and it won't be there on the first release but should be there pretty soon after.
I would usually be totally up for anything a user want EXCEPT for rotary lockscreen.
Sorry guys but rotary lockscreen is not going to be featured in swag squad because personally I hate how it looks. sorry
Right now I am converting the base of the rom to fission. I would release the rom right now except for my website and paypal donate are not up and I want those things to be up before IU release the rom.

I'm almost done moving everything over to the fission base, I just have to make the black status bar theme and then test it out.
I will work on my website tonight and hopefully I can finish it by the end of tomorrow so I can release the rom.
All my requests have been slowly added to various ROMs so far, except one. Notification power controls would be absolutely amazing. The one feature I've never seen on a D2 ROM that I want a lot.
Well I just finished moving it over to a fission base so that is all i am working on

It should be very fast especially since it is based off of fission which is just about as fast as roms get on the DROID2.
Battery life should be decent as well.
Gingerbread is not really my thing but there should be a fair amount of gingerbread apps included.
Thanks,

Hey everyone!
I've been looking to get back into ROM development, after a too much so extended break.
So what exactly would you all like to see? Stock, or AOSP? If so, what would you like out of either of these? Leave me some feedback, and let me know what you all would like to see. ^_^
I'd love something like these:

Stock ROM with ports, activated features that were previously hidden, new features...
I'm getting this beauty in a few months when I pass by the US, so I'd love something for it. But seems like 4.2.2 for it is just around the corner, so you could wait a bit before doing anything based on stock...
And, on 4.2.2, PLEASE do one of these hacks that bring the 4.1.2 System Layout back. I hate the 4.2.2 one (status bar at top, buttons at bottom). Suck a waste of screen space...

Yeah, I'll likely be waiting on 4.2.2. And that's also assuming that Sony didn't go ahead and rectify that on the 4.2.2 build. (As that's a rather offsetting UI change.)

Thanks. As I've been reading with some people with info, they are finalizing the software. Also, seems like you're a really good dev. Coming from the Samsung Epic 4G and the LG G2x. Can't wait to get my hands on this tablet and also seeing your work here.
See ya another time, bro
i would love you if you could do something similar to slimbean
+1 for something stock based!
Because I definitely want the special features (MHL, IR blaster, Small Apps etc.), and in AOSP-based ROMs it seems rather unlikely that we will get these...
yeah, stock based would be awesome. do not want to miss out on some cool features like the remote control etc
do people look in the development section. Apache; a contest winner is making a ir blaster for aosp roms so we can use tablet as remote
Sent from my SGP311 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, honestly I was thinking something stock based as well, unless I can port some of the features to a CM or AOSP based rom. Truth be told, I actually prefer the Sony interface over AOSP; and I'm a huge AOSP supporter. Sony did it right with their interface. Minimal additions, but all seemingly add to the appeal of the interface. The small apps are quite nice too; and those would be rather hellish to port to AOSP.
@skiwong20 ; That's fine and dandy, but the application is far from mature at this point, and it's hardly the most appealing looking application at this time. No disrespect to the developer, as he's done a great job. But the maturity of the application simply isn't there, yet.
The ROM style I dig is best summed up with a look at the Viper ROMs on HTC devices. Mostly stock, but with an external mod supplied app that allows to toggle all the small and nifty tidbits... Changing app drawer grid size, modifying hardware buttons and the behavior of the soft buttons.
Adding stuff like: quick double tap on task manager icon does not bring up the app list but just toggles back to the last used app. Double tap Home goes directly to Google Now or something else, user-configrable, etc.
If its unclear let me knoe, and I will elaborate, its late here, need to sleep

I'd like a port of the Nexus 7 Ubuntu desktop ROM to this tablet. I know folks like android, but this thing is basically an HD-res desktop PC. That's thinner than a pencil.
The main hiccup is the Xorg driver, but I think this has some probability of working: http://freedreno.github.io/
Anyway, I'd be willing to collaborate on it, but I'd like to see Ubuntu Core working on this without all the Ubuntu Touch bits...

Got mine for one week, is there hidden stuff that I missed ?
Not so much developement in this section, definitely recovery for locked bootloader is missing, I don't really need it myself as I'll unlock it soon when more stuff will be available but some have requested.
An Advanced Stock Kernel would be cool too, for now only DoomKernel is available.
Just what comes in mind...

I don't know exactly in Tablet Z, but if you decompile some apps from Xperia S, Xperia Z, there are stuff in bools.xml, for example, that activates some nice stuff. Sadly, no one managed yet to deodex the stock ROM, that's why there is no stock based ROMs around. You need a deodexed ROM to make some mods...
Tough choice, dev. Stock looks really cool and keeping the functionality of the multitasking windows and the IR blaster would obviously be great, but isn't the lag quite bad in simple scrolling of home screens? I would say pure Android would be better on this device but that is just my humble opinion :cyclops:
Looking forward to seeing your great work.
Well I'm running CM10.1 on my Xperia Z Tablet SGP311 - works pretty well, no GPS, no IR Blaster
Although it has the horrible navigation buttons in the middle - I'm always hitting either home or back or multi-task when I'm typing away furiously - but I must admit that I like the top use for notifications. Seems logical to have it up the top.
Either way OP all I'm after is the something regularly maintained, with good communication. I know thats a lot to ask, but its critical if people want to use your hard work.
Thanks in advance mate.

Hey all!
I like my G2 and I like where the development for this phone is going!
We all like too custom roms, custom kernels and tweaking/modding.
However, I can see there's a lot of aspects of this phone that has not been tweaked, modified, played with etc...
Mainly I can think of:
1-Quickwindow enhancements:
Maybe make it show more widgets, make it show all notifications (maybe the notification bar), can assign actions to cover flip on and off, etc... I a sure our great developers can look into it.
2-Qslide apps
As you know, Qslide apps are limited to little number of apps. I think this can be exploited somehow to be able to run any app in that mode!
3-You can think of anything else besides rom and kernel!
Sorry for mentioning you our great developers (between other of course) but I would like this issue to be looked at, at least.
@Wootever, @houstonn, @StarFighter, @[vertigo], @g.lewarne, @Heatshiver, @xdabbeb, @BlackDino, @rohan32, @Gerrett, etc...
Thanks all!
i did start a thread about dual booting roms as i previously had that on my samsung s2 and really miss having my daily driver rom on all day n simply switch to test rom when needed or have time to find bugs/test
we have a good amount of devs but yes development is kind of slow, probably due to kitkat or whatever reason
for now stock rom with a lil tweaking is working good for me having all features available with no problems, still miss taking part in helping devs test stuff out
A dark/white theme rom would be great. I know that LG G2 is already mostly white but it be really nice to have that type of color scheme.

Played with ROM's on my N2, got the N4 on opening day and have been busy ever since.
Just now slowing down enough to consider playing. I've tried a few of the newer ROM's and they are great. Especially like the OBAR. However visually I would like something similar to the Alliance ROM. Something with lots of choices of pre-made themes as well as the ability of granular tweaks to the theme. Unfortunately while it does boot I am having too many issues with it and a majority of themes do not even have a preview. Nor do a lot of the settings seem to work. (Yes I did flash the color fix.)
I'm on 5.1.1 COK1 (well Alliance is 5.0.1 but I'm headed back to OBAR)
Give me a head start, is there any framework, app or ROM that I should start looking at?
What are your suggestions...
Thanks in advance

I was searching for this theming options too... i like to be stock but really liked the note 5 and htc theming apps and official theme stores. They are deep and change the whole phone personality..
Wondering if any here using or know best ways to use stock themes app for sprint note 4??

Yea i me either but it works well since Android 5.1 seems to be soo hard to theme.
xposed seem to be pretty stable but you will have to try out modules to your liking
i use wanam of course but xblast and screen off animation modules
well to give me these lil tweaks but you can do much more
the fan on the side is pie but the screen off gives me my crt off animation and more
Coming from Samsung and Sony where there was a big difference are all Roms basically the same base on the X Style. Are there differences that I should be aware of?
Thanks
Edit Title should say AOSP!

I'd say the only reason to go cutom ROM on this phone would be customization. The stock ROM is pretty reliable, fast, and easy on the battery. Especially if you start tuning up the custom kernels how you like them.
Stock doesn't feel like it's dragging a frickin boat anchor or god awful at memory management like on a Samsung. This phone doesn't have an ugly, laggy vendor skin. With MM (and root) you can use RRO layers to theme it - no custom ROM required. I've run custom ROMs for years because...Samsung. I'm kind of tired of flaky bluetooth, FCs, and stuff that just doesn't quite work right but is better than Touchwiz.
The only thing I'd really like to have that custom ROMs make available would be double tap status bar to sleep, status bar brightness slider, and notification led; most everything else honestly goes in the stuff I don't use / forget about category (well...slim recents would be nice too). You could tackle most of that with XPosed too, but that brings its own baggage. I've tried out a few of the custom ROM offerings, and for now I keep going back to stock. They're good, but not good enough for me to give up that stock stability when stock is so close to pure AOSP. We have Multirom too, so that makes test driving multiple ROMs really easy.
As for AOSP vs. CM, I'm pretty sure all the custom ROMs you'll find here have a CM base. You can find Broken for this phone too, and it usually uses an AOSP-CAF base. I haven't actually checked Broken out yet.

Thanks for the reply... I think I'm more concerned about flashing the wrong kernel.
For example I'm used to say flashing a Stock kernel on my Z2 Sony ROM, I could opt for CM Rom and know I need CM kernel. This difference seem so much more blurred here on the Moto X Style.
Also for example we have BlissPure, PureBliss, FrakenClark and Stock optimised [@VadimTk] there doesn't seem to be an easy way of knowing which ROMs they can be flashed on.
I'm new to Moto's so learning fast!
Frankenclark and vadim's are stock.
Bliss is for cm base.
The frankenclark dev dirtyhank has been bringing some great features lately, and hashbang has been picking them up and baking them into his aicp builds too.

I've tried that with Nova, but you have to double tap blank space on a screen, not an app or widget. I actually have swipe up mapped to screen off with Nova because that seems to work anywhere. I agree it's a pretty good substitute.
I think I could get everything I want/need with stock and xposed. I'll maybe root this weekend and see how I on with rooted stock mm...

Coming from Samsung to Motorola my only complaint really about stock is missing features that I just wouldn't expect to be missing. The two that stick out most for me is the lack of a number row on the stock keyboard and a lack of an interface for a clipboard for copy and paste. Obviously a lot of these things can be supplemented with apps and mods but that kinda defeats the purpose of having a stock experience.
Edit: Oh and no option for battery percent in the status bar but I found a trick to enable that without any modifications.

Coming from Samsung to Motorola my only complaint really about stock is missing features that I just wouldn't expect to be missing. Data/network indicators, centre clock. I use google KB, so have the numbers.
Not sure what you mean by no copy/paste clipboard?

Y'all two care to share your little trick? I haven't come across center clock on Moto Stock without using Xposed.

Sorry, xposed IS needed for centre clock AFAIK...
I personally hate CM. Ever since my first Android phone I've always avoided it. I tried BlissROM and wasn't happy with it. I haven't used an AOSP ROM for any phone since my MyTouch4G. The ROM I'm currently using is TruePureX, and it's been going great. It's stock, but without bloat and a few added features. Then I add Xposed and GravityBox and it's perfect.

On my Samsung Galaxy S5 there was a clipboard where I could manage previously cut and copied content, not just the last item.

The trick allows you to enable the battery percentage as well as a few other things and can be found here.
