Getting rid of Stock E-Mail App - Galaxy Note II General

Hi guys,
honestly, the Samsung E-Mail Client App is a little outdated, while the calendar app isn't too bad at all. Is there a way to get rid of just their E-Mail stuff and go with the Google defaults while still keeping their s-Planner (intact!)?
Cheers
Rei

I just use tibu to freeze email.

I found a solution while playing around which seems to work so far
Installing the Mail and Exchange apks
Remove Samsung "Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync"-Accounts
Add Exchange Accounts
Reconfigure sPlanner to use the new Calendars (didn't know that that works!)
Reconfigure Contacts (not sure if Samsung did hook in there too much too)
Hiding the Samsung E-Mail App (Xpose or Hide-Apps Settings - depends on launcher)
Problems found:
Display of Contacts Birthday in sPlanner

Gmail Widget

Will someone post the download to the Gmail Widget. I miss it so much. I don't know why they didn't fix it in the new update that just came out. Hope they fix it in Android 3.2
It's apart of the Gmail app....?
uhh.. yea be more specific.
but you talking about this ?

A lot of people lost their Gmail widgets in one of the OTA updates.
it seems the only reliable way to restore it without reformatting is by grabbing the gmail apk from your /system/app, backing it up somewhere, deleting it, restarting, then move your backup to the original place, and install it.

No you cannot make modifications to /system/ without root access.

This is a pretty annoying/glaring issue and I wish there was some way to get visibility on this issue so that Asus could provide us with a fix in the next update.
I understand that rooting it would be fairly simple and an easy way to fix the issue but I (and many others) aren't so keen on rooting our devices at this point. Many app manufacturers are now restricting their apps to tablets/phones without root and this vcould be a problem going forward.
The easiest way to fix this is to do a factory reset. Updates are retained but you will get your gmail widget back. Worked for me.
For those of you who lost their GMail widget, my workaround below may help (and even enhance your email widget experience):
First - Note that the whole basis for the below instructions is that you can setup a GMail account as an activesync/exchange account in the EMail client, instead of in the GMail client, and using push email via activesync as follows:
Go to Account/Sync and add an account, select the type as "EMail"
In the Email address/password box, type in your GMail email address and password and then click on "Manual Setup"
Select the account type as "Exchange"
Now in the DOMAIN\Username field, modify it so it looks like google\[email protected]
For the password, it is your gmail password
For the Server it is m.google.com
Check SSL and Check Accept all SSL Certs
click through the final prompts and you should be done
Final steps - In Accounts & Sync, for the new acct, uncheck the Sync Calendar and Sync Contacts, and then in Accounts & Sync for your old/prior/existing GMail entry, uncheck the Sync GMail box.
What this does as an end result ->
Preserves your existing contacts/calendar setup so you don't end up with duplicate contacts/calendar items from the 2 acct syncs.
Sets up GMail email as push via activesync instead of as a standard Gmail acct, and so it shows up in the Exchange mail client as another mailbox.
Now in the Exchange widget you can tap on the icon in the title bar area and have it show GMail, your other work/exchange activesync account if you have that setup, or a unified inbox.
Also your emails are color coded with a bar, so if you have multiple activesync accounts i.e. the new GMail acct just added via above instructions, plus the existing work account, each should be designated with a color.
So, then all you need is one email widget and have a unified inbox - or if you like having GMail and work activesync email accts scrollable in different widgets, just add the widget twice and tap the title area so one filters on GMail and one on work mail.

I've read both of these solutions on many of the threads. So yeah, there are ways to get it back, but it does seem Asus should be able to include a way of restoring the widget with one of their firmware updates, for users that don't want to reset their device or do not want to root them.
Maybe it will get fixed when google updates the gmail app for Honeycomb.

[Q] Exchange Sync - Contacts & Calendar

I am running the GPE 5.0.1 ROM by @Danvdh and I'm having a problem syncing to my new work email account. I haven't had exchange on this phone before so I don't know if its a problem, or just not possible. In my searches it looks like I might need a few different apps, but that's why I here asking.
I have installed "Bluemail" and added my MS Exchange account info. Email syncs fine, but I'm trying to get my contacts (google) to sync with my work email, along with my calendar. The rom doesn't have a calendar installed by default so I installed "Business Calendar", but I'm not married to it at all, and am more than willing to switch to get it to sync. I also tried "Nine" email app but it doesn't seem to be syncing contacts TO Exchange, (maybe just from it?) And I don't know where its trying to sync the calendar to, but it doesn't appear to be working either. I hope this is all possible because on my old work phone (iPhone) everything would sync up easily and I really don't want to go to an iPhone.

Samsung Stock Email App Lacking Features?

Not sure if i'm the only one who uses the Stock SS Email App, but I noticed that it seems the new S7 version is MUCH more limited than the previous S6 version. For instance, there are no selective sync options - i can't choose not to sync contacts/calendar/messages. In fact, it seems text syncing is completely gone for some reason.
Anyone else noticed this?? Looks like I'll just wait for root and install the S6 apks lol
Gmail all the way

'Nine' for work mails, Gmail for personal. Can't beat that setup IMO!

The problem is that no "third-party" app supports the text syncing :/
Also, my personal IMAP email SSL settings are not supported by some apps as well... i'm in this like small bubble of issues from every direction
Did you try Aqua Mail?
The problem is, for the time being the only app that supports email notifications on the always-on screen is Samsung's email app...

It is the same as it was on the Note 5. To choose your syncing options, go into Phone Settings then Accounts. Select your email account and you will have the Sync option for Calendar, Contacts, Email, and Tasks.
Nine for exchange, Inbox or Gmail for Google mail. Don't use the bad built in OEM email apps.

That's how it was on the S6, but the S7 only has the option for email.

I guess it depends on what type of email account you are using? I use an exchange account and have all 4 options.
On my Gmail account, I have 13 sync options for it.
I just added one of my IMAP accounts and only have the Email Sync option for it like in your screenshot. But for that account, that is all it should have as there is no Calendar, Contacts, or Tasks associated with it.

VERY weird. So i decided, based on your photo showing it under "Exchange Account" rather than "Email" that i would remove the account under email and add it via Accounts instead of the Email app. This worked. Not sure why adding it via the Email app resulted in the issue - oh well, all fixed!
I like the stock app, but not having the ability to move an email from the deleted folder back to the inbox has me searching for another app.
ETA: I changed the setup of my email account from Pop to IMAP and I now have the option to move an email from Trash to another folder. Feel like an idiot for not trying that before now.
I also use the stock app. when I moved from Note 3 to S7 Edge, I couldn't find the auto advance option, which takes me to the next email after deleting the current one. I miss this feature.

Google Calendar/Contacts not Syncing with Hotmail

I can not get my contacts and calendar entries in Hotmail to sync with Google Contacts and Calendar.
I have removed and added the Exchange Account. The calendars show in settings in Google Calendar, but not entries appear. Same for contracts.
When I do sync, it looks like it is working and displays a date/time of sync no errors.
When I installed the Outlook APP, they show in that app.
What is up. I think this started with the update to 7.0.1. It worked fine with 6.0.
Help?
I am having the exact same issue. No idea what is going on but being how Contacts and Calendar are sort of a standard "should not be this hard to get working" part of a "Smartphone" especially since it is pretty much just basic Exchange Sync support. It's little times like this that realllly infuriates me with Android. Things that should just work, don't and by the time you realize it sometimes, it just screws everything up or you loose data which Android users that aren't rooted and backing up with a 3rd party app (like Titanium Backup) get completely screwed and show up on Facebook as people that "Lost my Phone, Need Everybody's #" threads.
I put even blame on both Microsoft (for their movement to O365 for Hotmail accounts even) and Google (for just having the ****tiest Exchange integration imaginable for stock android).
I'm on 7 (pure Nexus rom), not on 7.1. Having said that, I've had great luck setting up exchange and outlook accounts using the Mailwise app from the play store. It sets up accounts well, and those accounts can be handled just fine in the accounts area of settings. Also, there is an option to bypass exchange security settings, so that I can avoid having to lock down my phone just to see my wife's work calendar. It may be worth a try for you.
I installed BlueMail which also allows adding and syncing the accounts native, but it is still a pain to always need just another app to do something that should be working natively on the device. Grr
Yep. PIA for sure.

Email application

Hi all,
This is just a question that i have, and i want to know your opinion.
I have Office 365 as per my work and i use a lot also gmail, so it means i have 2 main emails.
I use Gmail app for gmail and outlook app for my work email and I want to have both togethers in one email app that can synch the contacts from the email and the calendar too (like outlook and gmail)
I am thinking in start using the Samsung Email since I'm going to update to Nougat. Can anybody share experience with email apps? Do you recommend to have both in one app? Samsung email is good app? Better is to have both in outlook? In Gmail app?
Thanks !
Blu Mail is a good app. With lots of customization. Not hundred percent itll suit your need but take a look.

I use the Samsung app. No worries or issues. I have a private mail account(pop 3), gmail and work email (Exchange). What is nice is when creating the accounts you can specify from which account it must be sent by default. If you use the widget, you can change it to show either one account of your choosing or a combined view of all 3. You can also have each account sync the way you want individually. Each account can have it's own notification sound.
best email app ever..samsung have the best mail app and in nougat its much better ..

Here's my opinion;
I also have two primary email accounts like you, a Gmail one for personal and an Office 365 one for work and I've been using these two apps for the last 6 months and I'm happy so far.
Gmail:
I use Inbox app and have done since it was launched, it's like Gmail but better I think, especially the UI. It works well and links in with Google Keep which I use daily therefore I doubt I'll ever sync my emails with a non Google app.
Office 365:
I use Nine app for Office 365 mainly for the customisation it offers, it's very similiar to the other ones mention above but after trialling it I found it was worthy of a purchase.
My main reason I originally purchased it was for the sub folder sync which was lacking in the deault Samsung email app, however since the Nougat update you can now do this.
I have also been using the default email app for last two days and even though it is now much better than the MM version I still prefer Nine as it just offers everything you can think of!
I hope this helps! :good:
