the only way to go back to stock recovery is to go back to stock but you can also follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2673736 which will allow you to have root and custom recovery

Hi Guys, I have read some topics about downgrading, but im not fully understanding if this is only for people who is already rooted or if this will work for a non rooted device. In my case i have an At&t Lg G2 not rooted with 4.4.2 kitkat and wanted to revert to 4.2 so i can root and then flash a rooted stock 4.4.2 kitkat. Is it possible to do that, even if i was never rooted? I do understand there's no root for kitkat as of now.
Thanks guys.

Root without back to 4.2.2
Hi,
Yesterday, autoprime published it's last IORoot25
With this, you can root D82020A, but you can't write TWRP or CWN Recovery, because the loki patch is not working today for D802+D80220a Rom
I rooted my rom this morning without back to 4.2.2
I'am waiting for the last loki patch for flashing custom recovery.
yeah me too i have d80220a rom 4.4.2 kk rooted but i cant install TWRP or CWM and i was wondering about the problem so now i know from you gus its all about the loki flash thanks god i was looking for an answer; so any idea about latest release of the loki flash that can help us?
only possible fix is via linux... fixing the partitions. too complex.

@bengtc
If you are on MDL or MDB just install custom 4.4.2 rom. .... do not update other wise u would stuck with Safestrap recovery ...... and make sure to flash loki patch after that. Coz most custom 4.4.2 rom are prerooted

Right here in this forum. Go back to the main AT&T, Canadian BELL, ROGERS etc header. Choose
ANDROID DEV and they are all in there.
I've only tried Hyperdrive RLS15 on my S4........tried just about every rom on my S3 with good success.
I'm back to stock rooted right now on my S4 because I was unable to get a signal once my SIM was inserted.
Still battling with that. But I also know better than to update to stock 4.4.2....it'll most likely lock up the
phone so only safestrap can be used.... Samsung is getting to be like Apple........

Towelroot will work with 4.2.2 ucuamdl , at least it did for me. You will also want to stay on ucuamdl so you can install a custom recovery and custom roms.
