This the best and the easiest guide to install adb and fastboot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2141817
In my opinion, it is always good to type commands and manually setup everything than using 1-click installers. This helps in debugging and avoiding issues.
Probably your PC needs a Startup repair. Start it and press F8 continuously to get repair options. Let me know how it goes.

Hey I am back...
As for your reply ,thanks but what I wanna say is the first,my PC has purely good configured and not any system deformity.
And I haven't found any working adb.exe/fastboot.exe version before I one day surfed a board and droped with a working bundle.
The bunldle included adb and fastboot which had the different md5 from the ones in "15 seconds ADB Installer".
*15 sec
81d188a849c8768e8f3694eb1c0e6086 adb.exe 800k
2782d10e7d3370cfefbadae0e8eaaa35 fastboot.exe 157K
**working version
8ae827f316e4fd4500c8d5b2845bcbe9 adb.exe 2400k
6bbf05d97585c3c515bdb172eb9e7d12 fastboot.exe 969 K
What's the difference between the "15 sec" and the working version. Weren't they coming from the same Google adt-bundle?
Or has somebody compiled the origin fastboot.exe and twisted it in order to make it work straight out there.

I'm having problems Rooting my Nexus One and would be extremely greatful if someone could help me. I got my Nexus One directly shipped to the UK, I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
Here's what I've been doing;
I checked 'about' screen and saw it's ERE27 on my N1.
1) I download Superboot for ERE27 - download MD5: 19d302e1bcb18932f009d2a36a3d688f and extracted it to directory (C:\)
2) Turned off phone then plugged in the USB to the N1 (sound on my Windows 7 confirmed the USB connection was made)
3)I I put my N1 in bootloader mode - Turn off the phone then press and hold the trackball to enter the bootloader.
4) I double click 'install-superboot-windows.bat' extracted file on my pc.
BUT then Command Prompt pops up and I get - C:\Users\Bukhtiar\Desktop\1.0-ERE27-nexusone-superboot>fastboot-windows.exe flash boot boot.ERE27.superboot.img
< waiting for device >
After that nothing happens, please could someone help me with a step by step guide as I am new to this.
Many Thanks
You need the USB drivers for the nexus (http://djdoprkngutub.cloudfront.net/usb_driver.zip)
Also, did you unlock the bootloader? You didnt mention it
You need to download the Android SDK and run "Fastboot OEM Unlock"
Do I need to have the phone connected while downloading the Android SDK? Sorry about the Q's but I'm new to all this.
Follow step 1 and 2 in this link
http://androidandme.com/2010/01/hacks/video-how-to-unlock-and-root-a-nexus-one/
then do your superboot step that you have mentioned.
Afterwhich, your phone is unlocked, has a new recovery img, rooted and ready for flashing of custom roms.

I downloaded the Android SDK folder and downloaded the files within it then I followed the links instructions....as follows;
# Reboot phone into fastboot: Power off device and hold down trackball while powering back on. (The fastboot screen is the one with the Androids on skateboards)
# Open a command prompt and navigate to your Android SDK tools folder.
# Type ‘fastboot devices‘ to make sure your phone is recognized.
I opened Command Prompt and navigated to the Android SDK tools folder but I get nothing coming up when I typed ‘fastboot devices‘ nor any message saying my phone is recognized, except in 'Fastboot USB' the phone screen.

Seriously, did a mod edit my topic name to put a [Q] in front? (I removed it now).
Just because there's a question mark in the topic doesn't make the topic a question. IYSWIM.
P
do u HAVE to revert to the stock rom to apply the update?
Only if you've deleted stuff on /system.
P
after doing the flash paul, my phone is sitting at the black htc screen with the green indication bar full
'fastboot reboot'
P
thanks, this is my first droid flash. i prolly have flashed windows mobile over a thousand times
Hey paul anyway on doing your method without wiping? Don't wanna lose my launcher pro homescreen setup I got going on took me a while to do lol.

Hey paul did u update. I'm holding off on the update cuz I don't wanna risk never being able to get root
I did yeah.

How long should it take to flash?
Its been sitting on a black screen with HTC logo for 20 min
terminal shows:

If it's still on 'sending', you can pull the battery and try again.

When I try to extract the fastboot zip it errors me out. Downloading from my device. Not pc
Edit: guessing I'm suppose to use fastboot thru my pc? How does this work?
[G2/HTC Vision]
mine is sitting on htc screen with green progress bar which looks to be full.. is it okay to pull battery and try the update?
Fastboot
When I run fastboot-windows.exe on my computer I just get a quick flash of a black screen and then nothing.
Nevermind kinda went a different route and put the orginal rom on the root of the sdcard and named it to pc10img.zip and the booted into fastboot and then bootloader. It then flashed the zip, took a few min. Than put OTA on root of sd and named it to update.zip and entered into recovery and selected apply sdcard : update.zip. All went well. Actually is now booting for the first time havent even played with new system yet. Thanks for all the hard work that you devs do though. You make these phones bada$$.
Helpful Hint
If you have trouble getting it to "see" the device while in fastboot, just go to control panel, devices, install driver, and pick the one from sdk folder.
This was my first time using fastboot, so I had to do some digging around to figure it out.
Flashing via Fastboot (done within Windows, not the phone):
1.Download ROM and fastboot.zip from OP
2.Leave the ROM alone, and extract the contents of fastboot.zip into the same folder as the ROM
3.Start phone in fastboot mode; when phone is off, hold trackpad button and press power
4.The phone should go into the proper mode, now connect it to USB
5.Open up the command prompt in Windows (Start>run>cmd)
EDIT:6. I forgot to add this: you have to set the directory in cmd to the folder in which the ROM and fastboot files reside. The easiest way to do so is make a folder on the desktop itself, and type "cd desktop/[foldername]" into the command prompt, without the quotes.
7.Follow the last three bullets as listed in Paul's post
I already had the USB drivers for the phone when messing with adb. I don't know if that will affect fastboot; if it does, you'll need to boot the phone normally and connect via USB, download PdaNet onto your computer, and let it install the necessary drivers. Once done, then you may follow the remaining steps.
EDIT: See #6 for updated instructions; it is crucial to avoid the invalid command error.

Hi guys, I recantly decided to update my gt540 from 2.1 to 2.3.3
I followed steps by steps on by this tutorial - http://fdapps.comuf.com/downloads/The LG GT540 Optimus reference page.pdf
Installed rom with fastboot, tried to install Clockwork with fastboot, I typed fastboot flash recovery C:\recovery.img , and then there's <waiting for device> , doesn't go further, I have everything installed sdk, usb drivers and usb debugging activated. Maybe there's some problem with key combination, to get in fastboot. From google I understood, that I have to turn phone off, then press and hold camera + press power button! I did other combinations too, but didnt work.
Just waiting for device..
Any ideas? I read, that if you're in fastboot there's just a black screen, and on pc desktop appears fastboot usb. I have non of that.
Thanks for help in advance.

Hello
1. you need to install a ROM with fastboot the most common is europe + fastboot (KDZ) ROM.
http://www.mediafire.com/?96nu9lb6afx22a7
2. once its finished phone will reboot, then fast login into fastboot mode CAMERA + POWER
3. You are missin 1 thing, OEM usb drivers not GOOGLE usb drivers as some tutorial says, those are just for Android Developer Phones (ADP), Nexus One, and Nexus S.
LG_Android_USB_Driver_Rebuilt
http://www.mediafire.com/?pbigrb8cimmxa4d
* these drivers are for your pc to recognize your phone in fastboot mode, they are not the normal LG usb drivers
4. for install the drivers abouve follow these smll tutorials
* if using windows 7:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html#Win7
* if using windows XP:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html#WinXp
once is installed plug your phone in fastboot mode to your pc, now your pc has to recognize your phone wait until it finish installing the drivers and read it properly
5. unzip the new ROM files into C:\*SDK\tools
6. open CMD Terminal and go to C:\*SDK\tools, type:
cd C:\*SDK\tools
7. once in, type
fastboot flash recovery recovery_clockwork_3.x.x.x_swift.img"
fastboot -w
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase boot
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
*Just in case it drops you an error AdbWinApi.dll missing here is the file. place it in C:\*SDK\tools and try again

I accidently formatted my internal storage and system partision through TWRP recovery. Now im stuck with an unbootable Nexus 4 since there is no rom installed. How can i push a zip into my device? I can only access TWRP and Fastboot. and never really used ADB. I used a Toolkit to Root my phone (WugFresh's Toolkit) cant really use that since i cant boot my device to turn on USB Debugging. Any help?
Update: Searched several hours on xda, i cant manage to set up adb. Redownloaded Android SDK. Installed/updated adb (v). Tried multiple drivers (from official google usb drivers to univeral usb driver from Koush). Every time i open cmd and type "adb device" and long list of adb commands and other stuff appear. every time i type adb and any word infront of it, that happens. adb doesnt want to run or something. This is getting fustrating. and when i run adb.exe (from toolkit folder) it closes really quickly. only odd thing i see is under device manager my Nexus 4 is being displayed as Google Galaxy Nexus ADB Interface???
What operating system you're using?

Hi the command is 'adb devices' if it's showing you the commands adb is set up correct. You don't actually need adb for this though, get your phone in fastboot mode and type 'fastboot devices' with your phone connected. If it outputs anything you're ready to flash a factory rom and fix your phone.
I have seen a lot of people using unofficial and third-party methods to root, which can result in a lot of adverse circumstances to say the least.
So I'm presenting a complete noob-friendly guide to rooting.
Prerequisites:
1. A computer ( I'm using Windows 10 but any OS would do)
2. A USB cable
3. Basic computer know-how
Part 1 (Getting computer ready)
Download sdk tools (adb and fastboot) from here
Note that in the entire guide I'm using official products.
So in Windows, download the zip and extract it in any folder.
Now download latest twrp recovery from here
The lastest version as of 7th August, 2017 is 3.1.
The downloaded file will be named as twrp-x.x.x-0-x3.img.
Now rename this as recovery.img (this will make our work easier)
Now move that file to platform-tools folder which we extracted earlier.
Also, I suggest downloading Intel USB drivers for Android from here
Part 2 (Getting Phone Ready)
Unlocking bootloader didn't format my phone but taking a backup is still important.
Now go to Settings<About Phone and click on Build until it says "You have become a developer"
Now back to main settings menu and find "Developer Options". And turn USB debugging on.
Download magisk install.zip, unistall.zip ans apk from here
Now connect your phone to PC via USB cable.
Step 3 (Rooting!!)
Now open platform-tools folder and press Shift+ right click.
Select "open command prompt here".
Now a terminal will open.
Type
Code:
adb devices
Now you will get a prompt on your phone. Accept it.
Now type
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Your phone will automatically reboot and fastboot will come up.
Now type
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
[Alert! If you get <waiting for device> right click on start menu, select the unrecognized device and install Intel driver in it. Google for detailed instruction]
The process will start and you will get something like
(Okay ....)
(Okay....)
And type prompt. Now type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Flashing will start.
When you get type prompt again, type
Code:
fastboot reboot
And when the screen switches off, hold power up+power button.
(
Code:
fastboot reboot emergency
should work but it's effect was same as
Code:
fastboot reboot
If you get something like red state... verification failed... Then it's a good news.
Wait a few seconds and then twrp will launch. I suggest swiping on the first screen
[because letv is almost dead and we can't expect any updates. Plus my bootloader was relocked in my first attempt when I didn't swipe.]
(I suggest wiping dalvik cache and cache)
Now you can just reboot your phone normally.
Now install magisk apk.
Now reboot again to recovery. (Easiest way is Update app>tree dots menu> reboot to recovery)
When twrp starts, go to install> download and find magisk zip. Swipe to install.
Reboot and you have a fully rooted phone!!

There was a prompt for TWRP update and Magisk Update.
After it has started showing Orange State instead of Red State.
The phone got rebooted and all installed apps were deleted.
Xposed got uninstalled.
Playstore, Googlemaps got unistalled.
Camera is working.
Calling is working.
Now it shows Orange State.
Is it safe.
Can we bring it to red state?
As per this link
https://www.androidauthority.com/verified-boot-warnings-in-android-6-0-marshmallow-650368/
Orange warning: Your device is in an “unlocked” state. This means that your operating system can’t be checked to make sure that it’s safe to use.
Red warning: The operating system on your device has been changed or corrupted and is not safe to use. The device may not work properly and could expose your data to corruption and security risks.
Orange State seems to be a better state than red.

I too got orange state when I had to reroot my device after it got bricked, but there was no issue, everything worked perfectly.
Hi l used this very step by step guides but sadly l got stuck at the :-
Alert! If you get <waiting for device> right click on start menu, select the unrecognized device and install Intel driver in it. Google for detailed instruction]
The process will start and you will get something like
(Okay ....)
(Okay....)
Here l select the unrecognized device and install the Intel drivers but it stuck at the "Okay,,,,Okay" prompt. Meaning that l didn't get this okay prompts and it keeps me on waiting the whole day.
Secondly, till this command l stop it and power down the phone, so after l power back on and try opening the "Application" folder, then it's not working anymore, it shuts down itself.
Please help!!

Don't power off your phone. Post a screenshot of what exact problem you face with driver installation.
