I'd like to prevent my notifications and program "badges" (can't think of the proper word!) From stacking up in my notification bar at the top of the screen.
It happens when i have a lot of icons there already, ie wifi, alarm etc. Despite there being plenty of room in the middle of the bar, my notifications all stack into one icon on the extreme left hand side with the number of different programs/notifications shown as a number.
Is there a way to prevent this behaviour and force android to use all the available space on the notification bar?
I'm running Ion r2 on my Dream, although my phone has always done this, with the stock rom and JF 1.5 as well.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer!
Sure, keep the number of notifications low and they won't stack. They stack when you run out of space on the bar. I know you think that there's lots of space, but if you unstack them, rest assured that there are definitely too many to fit in the space available.

Unfortunatly there is no forseen solution to this problem. I experience it as well. I think the best we can hope for are new phones with higher resolutions.

This isn't right. There is definitely space for 4 more icons, yet it stacks with just 2.

I'm on Ionr2 and I have 4 icons (email, Toggle Settings, Twidroid, USB) on the left side before the stacking starts. I'm not sure if it's gone up to 5 or not.

When the phone is in portrait mode it stacks when there are more than 2 items on the left hand side - even though there is space for more items. When in landscape, it shows all the notifications/app icons individually.
Very annoying, since the home screen will only display in portrait mode and wont auto rotate when the phone is turned.
Im convinced there must be something i can do to fix this issue!

I was talking about portrait mode. I'm pretty sure there's a fix since I do not have this problem. However, my home screen does rotate though, since I have dxTop.
Do you happen to have Quick Calendar installed? Even though Quick Calendar did not display a little icon on the top for each item in the list and only say in my "ongoing" area on the bar, when I removed it the stacking you talk about went away! It was driving me crazy too, but it seems like either Quick Calendar or the OS sees each entry, even though it doesn't have an icon and counts them.
Not sure if it will help you, but my phone has been working properly after I disabled Quick Calendar. It's a shame, I like the app. :-/

Genius! Removing Quick Calendar solved the problem - thanks!
I've put a link to this thread at the devs website - perhaps when he has solved the issue he could let us know, so we can go back to using his otherwise useful app.
Never had this type of problem, only thing is that my colors blend together because of the custom theme I am using >.<
Ok, I confirmed with the developer this morning, it is QuickCal, though I guess any other app that hides icons would also have this problem as it is a restriction in the os. Jim (the developer) works for google and plans to petition his employer to make some changes to the way the notify bar works. The os allows the developer to 'hide' notification icons, but they still take up an invisible space.
We should see an update in the next couple of days to make a nicer widget with more info and smaller font size, so this may satisfy me if the widget is decent.

Awesome - I already miss QuickCal and I only uninstalled it yesterday!
Hi,
today I was trying out some navigation with my phone. All worked fine, at least for the navigation part. Having the phone in portrait mode, the status bar is on the top. But if you turn into landscape, the status bar turns too. Beeing in landscape mode and having the status bar on top, it "steals" a lot of space.
So I was wondering, if there is an app that can controll the position of the status bar depending on the screen orientation. 2 hours of fruitless googling made me open this thread.
The Homescreen Replacement "LauncherPro" is able to hide the status bar, what brings a lot of space. But if you want the information from the status bar at your fingertips, you have to disclaim that space. If the status bar would be on the left or right side on the screen, you have both, space and information.
I hope everybody understands, what I'd tried to describe.
I just had the idea and I wanted to share. I don't need the application necessarily. I just thought it would be a nice thing to have on our phones.
So if someone wants to "steal" my idea, you are welcome. Charge money for it or don't. I don't care.
Greetz from snowy Bavaria,
berkley
P.S.
Excuse my poor English!
First off...many thanks to ALL you devs who have already contributed and will contribute in the future. Your work is necessary as phone manufacturers ship less than perfect handsets. You guys truly make these products sooooo much better.
From what I've been gathering...a number of folks would like some of these ideas listed added to this wonderful phone. Donations shall be in order of course for all the hard work.
- The ability to hide the ever present location "bullseye" Icon
- Replace the battey icon with a custom one (I always thought that multicolored round one with the percent in the middle was coooooollll), or shrinking the stock percentage and placing it on top the battery.
- Bottom speaker gain control
- knock off works if you tap the empty area of the home-screen in a 3rd party launcher (the stock ui sees it as one big app, which is why it won't work unless you double tap the top status bar.)
- Keeping the top status bar and the lower nav buttons transparent in 3rd party launchers (the stock ui again sees it as one big app, rendering the bars opaque)
- Black or gray theme for settings menu....the white is a bit harsh.
- Double tapping the home nav button brings up LG Voice Mate...or that voice control LG app thingy.

No worries.
I'm working on these atm..
but I have F320 Systemui..
no one sent me the Verizon of At&t systemui.apk..
And for the 1% Battery MOD, Framework.res & Lge.res is also required..
EDIT: My friend here, djkinetic sent me those files.. I cannot see or test anything..so i will send it to him for testing. But not everything at once, one by one slowly..
How about removal of the AM/PM please and location icon (as was mentioned)
What kind of bottom speaker control are you asking for?
I support the dark settings theme.
At least you can change the navbar to be black instead of white, and the settings menu to be tabbed instead of one gigantic list. I was worried during initial reviews when they said you couldn't change those.
I'd like to add - ability to customize navbar to add other button types, or at least the customization of the navbar hold-n-drag options (currently holds voice search, Google Now, and something else).

Here are a few requests....
- white or ICS blue status bar with no gps icon, add center clock, battery with percentage in the middle
- recents button in the nav bar - remove menu
- no more wifi connected to in notification drop down
- louder notification sounds
OR CM10 with knock knock

All in good time. The beauty of a flagship device is very highly likely CM support.
AOSP please
How about a permanent Back, Home, Multitask, Menu button layout in AOSP style with a semi transparent background on the homescreen...
Of course, I'd prefer complete AOSP.

Sitting here streaming Slacker radio, dawned on me:
customizable knock patterns! like 2 knocks for skipping a track, change wake up to 3 knocks, etc.

Why buy the G2 if all you want is AOSP? You might as well have waited for the N5.. I don't understand why people buy a phone that has some pretty cool features, only to flash AOSP and lose most of it... I get that a lot of what the G2 does can be built into AOSP with different apps but i guess I'm the only one who buys the phone for the experience that was intended by the manufacturer.
Ok guys, was able to make many things and tested them too! Need to fix a few things. Its 4 am here,by 11am i will make a new thread in themes section
Hi,
Does anyone know a way to increase the size of the icons and text in the status bar and possibly change the colour as well?
I know the size can be changed at Settings > Display > View mode, but I find the size quite small even at the largest setting.
The small text and icon size is just made worse by the adaptive colour behaviour, which always sets the hue of the colour the same as the background, (ie. light green for Google Play, light red for Gmail).
As if Huawei was trying to hide what the status bar shows, which kind of defeats the purpose.
Just for comparison, here are some screen-shots from my P10 Plus and from another phone running stock Android (both are on Oreo).
Note that while the stock droid's text and display size is set to Default/Defaullt respectively, the P10 is set to Default/Large (which is as large as it gets for the status bar, since on the P10 plus "text size" has no influence on it).
Any help is appreciated.
Thank You.
Is it really impossible?
Well, from the absolute lack of responses I must conclude, that what I would like is just impossible.
Or am I asking at the wrong place?
Anyone?
Thank You.

If You find any solution or a workaround, please let me know.
I was thinking, that perhaps an app with a widget that can replicate the function and behaviour of the status bar would do the trick, but I could not find one.
(Or perhaps, HUAWEI could just stop being stupid, and make a status/notification bar, that is NOT trying to hide its own content.
Anyone reading XDA from Huawei?)
I agree, it's really hard to see most of the time.

It"s a nice app, but unfortunately it does not solve the problem.
It only lets you select different icons for Wifi, Signal and Battery.
It does not modify the size or colour behaviour of status bar.
But, thanks for the tip, anyway!

Still not fixed with EMUI 10
I share the frustrations of people on this thread but was confident that the new release would sort it out. Sadly not
I just updated my P30 Pro to EMUI 10 and ... same. It's not just that it is not configurable but that the only size is so small. Am I really going to have to root this phone just so that I can read the status bar?

The only way to increase the font and icon size is install another Launcher instead of using EMUI. Huawei really lock down the screen option badly. Try Nova launcher or Microsoft launcher (it is free).

Unfortunately, You are wrong.
It's about the status/notification bar. Launchers can't change that.
Besides , EMUI is not the launcher on Huawei devices, it's much more than that.

There was me, hoping EMUI 10.1 would fix it.... Nope
I found a bare app for this issue on my vivo device but not perfect. The "Super status bar" app makes all text lager enough than they are. But this app doesn't work properly for all devices. It didnt work at 1st but i could get it work by trying repeatedly. The accessibility permission couldnt keep switch on and goes off itself. But when i switch on repeatedly many times later it didnt went off and app worked. But after the latest system update the app stopped for me. So if you could get work this app then don't do further update system as it may disable the app.
Also there're some limitations of this status bar app for ex. no data speed indicator. But for that i used another speed indicator app to show net speed on super status bar. Signal indicator shows bit of signal when there is no signal. The signal type G, E, 4G, LTE only shows only when data is switched on. Yet the time, battery and other common text are big enough on super status bar. Sometimes the paid version may better. There're some gestures also in the app for ex you can set call volume etc by sliding through the status bar and tapping status bar can show power manu etc. You can try it...
Unfortunately i cannot mention the link of Super status bar app as it not allowed here. You can search it by name in play store as "Super status bar". A green color app icon..

Figured I'd update this
I found somewhat of a solution. There's an app in the playstore called fullscreen mode tool with keyboard support. It's the only app that enables the immersive status bar where the keyboard won't cut into the input box. The only catch is when bringing up the keyboard the input box does a slight jump. To me this is better than burn in from status bar icons. My 8 pro has had the image retention issue with the status bar and I don't want it to lead to burn in which is why I'm going through all this trouble. Hopefully OnePlus can push an update with burn in protection built into oos cause as far as I know there is none.
Hey there, did you get this to work on a Oneplus 8? I just got one and have been trying a few different methods but my status bar persists.

If you want to prevent burn in by removing the status bar icons then just turn off all the toggles under status bar menu within settings. It's called icon manager.
