What kind of a problem is this? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Not that I care about this piece of s... phone but after lying on my table for mere 40hours or so on standby with full charge (and working fine before), I just noticed it was turned off, and when I try to turn it on, it will just flash the i9505 logo for a second and just turn off again, won't even boot to recovery.
Only thing working is download mode, but that does no good because of knox so is there anything else I can do but to go to warranty for the thousandth time?
I cannot understand how so many people use Samsung phones... They were crap before android and they still are. /rant

Try flash stock rom then from stock recovery do a wipe data factory reset and see how it goes.
Report back.

Is you battery swollen? Then you probably have a faulty battery.

I don't want to flash because of knox.
And my battery is fine, I can boot to download mode just fine, it will stay on normally.

That it boots in download mode is not a good indication that there is nothing wrong with your battery. Booting uses more power then download mode. So it's possible that it will boot into the download mode with a faulty battery.
There is no way that this is a software problem.

When you flash stock rom it will keep knox at 0x0
What is the serial number of your battery?
If it starts with BD1D you have faulty battery, if AA1A you have new treated battery.

[Q] Boot loop(?) help!

I am running my GT-i9505 on PA3.99 and the other night my phone turned off while I was sleeping. I woke up and the phone would not boot, it would show the Samsung logo briefly then not boot up. It's got to the point where it will go past the Samsung logo and on to the PA boot animation, but it will repeatedly do that, it will not turn off or boot up from there. I can access Download mode but not Recovery mode.
What's the course of action here guys?
Thanks in advance.
Is you battery swollen? If so, then you probably have a faulty battery.
If it looks normal, then you could try flashing a rom true Odin. I would try to flash an older stock rom without the knox bootloader, if you still have the old bootloader.

My battery is not swollen, well from the looks of it.
I used a friends PC to flash through Odin but I can use the PC I'm using now, now. Is there any chance you could link me the Odin I should download?
What is the knox bootloader?
Thanks,

[Q] Galaxy S4 Hard Bricked (I think)

Hi
I have a bit of an issue with my phone and hoping someone can help me out.
History
My phone screen has cracked and a repair centre showed me it is most likely due to my battery blowing out, so as my phone is still under warranty I have arranged for it to be returned to O2 to be repaired. However as I had it rooted and have had multiple ROMs installed, my counter is at 7, so needed to reset this and get the O2 stock ROM back on.
What I've done
I used Triangle Away to reset the counter, but this didn't seem to work, I chose the option to reset the counter, phone would reboot but not into Download mode, just straight back up to OS.
Used latest version of ODIN to flash the O2 stock firmware, this failed and phone switched off. Would not power back on.
Spent 4 hours with phone not able to power on in any way.
Eventually found the sofware referenced on Samersh(apologies) post re: recovery of phone, this allowed the phone to flash via USB and get me back to Download mode. I can then use ODIN to flash sotck firmware with a PIT file, this shows as succesfull, but on completion phone switches off and wont power back on.
I can repeat these steps over and over again, but each time ODIN flashes succesfully, but at the end phone powers off and wont power back on.
Can anybody shed any light on what I need to do to get my phone recovered, or have I lost it forever?
I appreciate any and all help you guys can give me as I am at a complete loss as to what to do.
Regards
grabrail
Buy a new battery. If your battery indeed blew out, then it's damaged. That's why you can't boot anymore.

The battery still works as I can boot after flashing with Legijas software, but only to download mode. After flashing with ROM it then reverts to a "Dead" status until flashing with Legijas software again.
Ok, then it's not your battery.
Flashing roms with a damaged battery is still not very smart.

Tried a new battery last night from a brand new i9505, no joy.
I have found a shop that may be able to J-TAG it for me so fingers crossed it will be ok.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 totally reinstall how ?

So my phone don't want to startup anymore.
If i charge the batterij even the battery icon don't shows up only vibrates all the time. (black screen)

Recovery is not seandroid enforcing
Set warranty bit : Recovery
so anyone help me ?
i have odin v3.09
but the software i have doesn't work
Not possible.
You have either a faulty power button
A faulty battery
Or some other hardware failure.
My guess would be 1 or 2.

well the battery works fine and the power butten is not broken because i can get too the download mode
but can it be a root virus ?
I didnt see that download mode was still working. Then you can just flash the stock firmware, or you just reflash your custom recovery.
A root virus? Highly unlikely.
If you want more help you should give us more details. Saying stuff like that your Odin software doesn't work is useless. We need details, logs etc.

and how do u flash and ROM a samsung s4 ?
i don't get any logs just what i tell is what i know.

I9505 bootlooping & not booting

Galaxy S4 I9505
Phone was second hand to me at the start of this year, though had been well looked after, always in a case etc
I flashed it with the newest stock ROM in January this year
I9505XXUHOJ2_I9505BTUHOJ1_I9505XXUHOJ2
& rooted with CF AutoRoot
It has worked fine until about 2 weeks ago, when it randomly shut down. After restarting, it kept bootlooping.
Left it off & charging overnight, & the next morning it booted ok. Managed to use spotify for a few hours.
Then it started bootlooping again, sometimes getting all the way but then crashing after a few minutes.
Managed to boot into recovery & do a 'wipe cache', that didnt fix it.
'Wipe data' didnt fix it
Have flashed the PIT file & ROM (via odin), no errors in odin, done it twice now
wiped cache & data
still wont boot past the white splash screen, only sometimes boots into recovery
(also, only the menu button lights up, not the back button.)
I've checked the power button (clicks & dosnt stick)
Dont think the batteries the issue (charges fine, dosnt get warm, isnt bulging)
What else could stop it booting?
Have you tried booting into safe mode?
Safe mode, from what I read, can be accessed by holding the menu button while the phone boots.
But you should also do some reading about it, in case I'm wrong.
The other idea would be to try a custom ROM.

Can't boot into safe mode
(& having read up on it, it would only not run apps that arn't already in the ROM)
Any suggestions for a custom ROM
& why would it work when the original official one won't?
Well, it's booted far enough to get into android & add a google account, then it bootloops again.
Then after leaving it off for a while, it will boot & let me look at settings etc, then bootloop
however
the menu soft key stays lit all the time after a boot
the top half of the phone, around the camera, gets very warm
Does that indicate it's a hardware issue?
Could it be the battery?
If it's the top half warming up without you doing anything, it's the motherboard.
Boot into recovery and and let it stand by, see if it reboots.

The battery can't prevent the ROM from booting. It would have to turn off during the boot, which it doesn't. So, by my logic, it isn't the battery.
Try official CM.

I am not able to go into recovery after firmware flash. The recovery bot appears and when the blue loading bar goes to half, the phone reboots and then again boot loop. I just noticed this always happened when i flashed a rom. I was never able to enter recovery on first boot.

Took out battery during system update, now in bootloops

I took out the battery during "installing system update" at 97%, now just keeps beep twice and screen says recovery booting and repeat. Tried recovery mode by holding volume up+home+power but doesn't work either still can't go to recovery mode.
Phone is galaxy note 3, never updated since they say newer one is crappy and drains battery fast, but half hour ago I pressed update by accident.
I got some important pictures in the phone, are they all gone? or can I recovery them?
anything else to try? hope it's not bricked and I need this phone! thanks for reading and help.
Dude, this is Note7 forums, not Note 3
yeah was thinking maybe the phones are similar and couldn't find the sub forum., mods you can move thread as you see fit.

Note 7 thread, but meh, I have a W8 so I'm not doing much. I will try to help!
Did you try putting it in Download Mode and side loading with Odin?
You can flash TWRP in Odin:
https://dl.twrp.me/hlte/twrp-3.0.2-1-hlte.img.tar.html (Snapdragon Note 3)
https://dl.twrp.me/ha3g/twrp-3.0.2-0-ha3g.img.tar.html (Exynos Note 3)
Odin: https://idlekernel.com/flash-tools/Odin_3.12.3.zip
Samsung drivers: http://developer.samsung.com/technical-doc/view.do?v=T000000117
Enter download mode (VolDown+Home+Power), VolUp past warning screen, plug in device to PC
Launch Odin
TWRP tar goes in AP slot, flash while holding volume up + home.
Once you're in TWRP you can transfer all your stuff off your phone such as pictures, etc. MTP is magical.

Ok just tried getting into download mode and it was able to. but Odin, snapdragon etc all those are new to me. for the phone I pretty much just use it to call/text and have some apps. I don't tweak it or anything everything is stock. I googled those terms but all those are new to me!
But after I tried to get into download mode I pressed down to restart, and it doesn't do the bootloop anymore. it goes to screen of tmobile 4g LTE after the samsung screen and just stops there. (also still can't get into recovery mode)

what's snapdragon and exynos note 3, I got tmobile note 3. I think I still got 50% battery life left the last time that it was working, should I get all thsoe done before battery dies or no worries?
so what are we doing? are we using Odin to get into TWRP, then transfer my pictures etc to desktop? then is TWRP pretty much the stock phone default mode or? sorry I am totally new at this. have very little idea what all those mean.

I recommend booting into download mode and noting the model number. Once you have this information, it will help determine which files should and should not be flashed to the phone.

I need to twrp and retrieve files from a bricked bootloop note 3, and also flash back to stock firmware. but the battery is totally dead, so I need to charge it first somehow or use USB during the process will be ok even it's dead battery?
The phone won't charge the battery in the phone? If not, you may need a new battery, USB flex cable, usb cable and/or charger.

no no, I am asking is it ok to flash twrp (retrieve bricked bootloop note 3) and also flash to stock firmware with a dead battery, USB should provide power but read somwhere that I should have at least 50 to 60% power
can't really charge it because it will turn on the phone and goes into bootloops (well I guess maybe just leave it but it will charge very slowly I guess?)
Yes, flashing twrp should be fine. Can the phone charge the battery when the phone is not powered on?

when phone is off and I charge it, it will turn it on by itself and goes into bootloops (battery is ok, but phone is messed up)
I think ONE other time the screen went somewhere and just stayed there, forgot what it was only one time, but screen won't turn off.
either case I guess I can just leave it there maybe? let it charge but screen is always on and bootloops keeps going, maybe won't charge at all since it keeps bootloops, or charge very slowly when the screen is always on? also can't see the battery % since it's in bootloops.
(oh I can go to recovery mode or download mode for either case, maybe leave phone connected to USB there and let it charge?)
oh for twrp is ok? maybe after twrp I will just leave it connected to pc and let it charge 30 min or so then do flash back to stock firmware later, can I do that? (also if not enough battery while doing the twrp or flash back to stock firmware, I can brick it for good and can't fix it?)
It would be best to flash twrp, power off the phone from the TWRP menu, then charge it. It the phone powers on by itself after flashing from twrp, charge the phone from twrp.

I want to transfer vids/pics from phone to desktop, where in TWRP do I use to do that? is it "backup" so far I am just looking at videos.
