[Q] Data restoring through Titanium Backup - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hello,
i want to change my ROM (i'm using Evo-x4 right now) and i need to restore my apps with data.
The problem is, that one app after restoring app+data is acting like it's normal installed app without my data.
I can make those data work only through dirty flash without wiping data, but then i'm not seeing QuickToggles and i'm experiencing much problems with connections.
Any other way i can restore the app without problems?

I don't - it's a game, not a system app.

[Q] App Backup- Not a stupid question

I was wondering how to backup an app WITHOUT backing up the data along with it. I have been having permission problems with my restores after flashing new roms. I believe it has something to do with the user data that comes with the apps.
Basically, how do I backup apps alone, without any of my personal data coming along with it?
Is there such a function on Titanium Backup? I have been using this.

With Titanium Backup you can restore Apps one by one. or as a batch option. You do not have to back up personal data with the app data.
This is what i do when i switch ROMs. I just skip the sign in, then log in via the accounts and sync option, then use the market to download T/Backup and batch restore and allow Google to re-sync my phone and use tit/bac for my apps.

Right, that is what I meant. When you just backup apps alone, the app data comes along with it. For example, when I restore angry birds alone, I still have all of my accolades. I was wondering how I could restore apps similar to freshly installing it onto my phone.

Yes. If you do a batch restore you can have it do "restore apps with data" and it will act like you never left the game.
I forgot to mention a part, please look at my above post again. Thanks

Yes you can also restore apps w/o user data.
you can also unlink apps from the market. So like with the recent flash update you can unlink the app from the market so you do not get market updates. so i can keep 10.1 and not worry about 10.2.
So how would I do that?

after you've rooted
after you've made sure s=off
you need to install the TB from the market and the Pro Key
once you you do that open the app up, download BusyBox via the "problems" button.
Then go to the "backup/restore" button and pick what you want to freeze/backup/restore
if you want to do a batch option from the main screen press the menu > BATCH > then select what you want to .

You can also try MyBackup Root. Its free and a little easier to use than Titanium. Seems to work great for me.
As well as ES file explorer or AntTek app manager.

Titanium Backup 2.2.1>2.3.3

Hi Guys
I have the rom that you can see in my signature. I'd like to know if, when I'll install the JVH 2.3.3 ROM, I can restore my saved apps with TitaniumBackup without problems.
Thanks
Yes, just remember not to restore system apps. It is also best in my experience not to batch restore but do it one by one, and for most of them just restore the app, not data. Only restore app+data when you really need whatever settings were in the app.

i dont want to lose him
lkh5650, saves are in these programs and will be restored along with them.
I am moving from 2.2.1 to 2.3.3 using Titanium restored all the programs, their data and some system data, as pim (log of calls can not be restored). Everything else I do not advise.

thanks for the reply
does that mean i only need to restore the app?? i dont have to restore app+data?
lkh5650, I always choose "Restore all apps with data", and then remove the check mark in the list of unnecessary items (all red - is a system software, and optionally the green - leaving only pim).
Thanks guys!
However, I backup the 90% of the "user apps" (I exclude big games and so on). Then there is no chance to restore system apps or something like this.
Thank you again!

Note that you can't revert SMS/MMS from 2.3.3 to 2.2.1 with TB, the database are incompatibles.

Contacts/Texts/(+other system data) is okay from 2.2.1 -> 2.3.3
However, if you backup system data from 2.3.3 and restore it to 2.2.1 you will get force closes.
So you can upgrade and keep your data, but can't revert

my experience
hey guys,
i moved from JPJ 2.2.1 to JVB 2.3.3 with all ease and no probs at all. even restored all my messages and contacts. here's what i did.
1. backup eveything with titanium. all of it.
2. use go sms to backup all your sms's.
3. use contacts to export ur contacts to sd.
4. flash JVB da way u want.
5. once ur on 2.3.3 and running all well. install TB. goto batch option. click restore missing apps. in the menu select apk only. and recheck all apps are user apps only. if there is a system app (in green or red) deselect it.
And voila! all ur apps are back. now u can pick and choose wich ones u want to restore data for. personally i found restoring data for games is no problem.
6. via my files app goto ex-sd card and find out the .vcf file that was created by contacts and click it. itl will restore all ur contacts.
7. reinstall go sms. and restore your messages.
8. create a nandroid as quickly as you can so u can avoid all the inconvenience and simply restore data from nandroid when u change to another gingerbread from this one.
Cheers! and happy flashing

[Q] Backing up apps + data.

Hi everyone,
I know there is a lot of backup apps but I've not found one that physically backs up the app and then restores it (re-installs) after installing a new rom.
Can anyone suggest an app that will do this?

You can use Titanium Backup for when you are rooted and Carbon for when you are not rooted or you do have root. Both are good but Carbon doesn`t require root.
Btw i would only backup user apps and data and no system apps.
I have titanium backup, but last time it didn't actually backup the installed apps only the data. Is that the case still? Or will I have to go ahead and re-download all the apps?

Usualy it also backs up user data as well as the apps. Maybe you chose the wrong backup option?
adb backup is always there, thats google own integrated backup agent inside your nexus. trigger it via shell or nexus toolkit.
i've tried carbon though and im blown away.

why wouldn't you back up system apps?
Because they cause problems most of the time if you restore them on another rom or after upgrading a rom.

Upgrading to Paranoidandroid with Android 4.3, best method?

I've been searching around, but can't really find clear information that I understand about all the steps involved in upgrading paranoidandroid to the newer version with Android 4.3.
1) The upgrade requires a factory reset. It I do this from TWRP am I going to lose my nandroids and titanium backups on the sdcard partition? Do I need to backup everything externally first?
2) When I used Titanium to restore my apps and data, what option do I select? Won't "restore all apps with data" include system data that might not be compatible with 4.3? On the other hand won't "restore missing apps with data" not include some data (like text messages) that I want?
3) It seems like, from reading around, that Titanium backup is having mixed results for restoring apps in 4.3. Is there a better method for backing up and restoring apps and data after the upgrade to paranoidandroid with 4.3?
Thanks for any help.
Just wipe data, cache and dalvik cache. Upgrade your radio and bootloader and you're ready to go. You wont lose data on your internal storage.

What about restoring my apps and data? Any suggestions about my questions in the op regarding Titanium or another method?
You can safely restore all user apps including data.
As for the system data you should only restore the special TiBu backups like call logs, messages, WiFi access points etc. (Those with the TiBu icon).
Some system apps may work with data restored from an older/other version, but it's a gamble.

I guess part of what seems like it should be obvious, but is confusing to me is that I don't see an option in Titanium to restore only user apps. The closest seems like the option to restore "all missing apps." Is there some other option that I'm not seeing? Do I have to do it restore each app manually, to avoid restoring system apps?

When you backup choose "backup all user apps" and when you restore choose "restore missing apps with data". That will only restore user apps since you didn't backup the system apps in the first place.

That's a good idea. I already backed up my system apps and data, some of which I want, like messages, etc. Is there any other way to only restore user apps, given I have the system apps backed up already? Or do I just have to move my backups somewhere (to save the system stuff) and then do it the way you suggest?

Well when you select "restore all missing apps", it'll bring up another screen where you can deselect what you don't want restored. On that screen you also have an option to "Exclude system apks".
Edit: I'm 95% sure that the "Restore all missing apps" only restores user apps/data. So you don't have to worry about system stuff being restored when you choose this.

Do you know, when restoring system data from the 4.2 version of Paranoidandroid to the 4.3 version, should I used the snapshot or xml option in Titanium? Thanks.

For anyone else interested in the topic of this thread, per some of the other above discussion, I found that using "restore missing apps and data" in Titanium doesn't just restore user dowloaded apps, but also some leftover apps that I guess were part of Android 4.2, but don't exist in 4.3. So you have to go through the list and be careful to uncheck things that are no longer part of 4.3 or would replace an newer version of some system related thing, with an older version.
I also found when restoring system data, that it wasn't good enough to only restore items labeled with the Titanium icon. There were some things like contacts storage and calendar storage that I wanted the data from and were not labeled this way. So you have to be careful to get those things but only restore data and not the old version of the app.
In the end, it was relatively easy, but a little tricky and I felt like I was guessing at times about what would give me what I wanted and would be safe to restore.
*
I didn't do this, but I wondered if it would be safe to restore paranoid preferences with Titanium? Also is there anything that would restore things like how I had the quick settings panel set up and some of my general system settings like that? Or am I stuck just redoing those things manually?

When you switch ROMs, what's the easiest way to restore everything else?

When you switch ROMs, what's the easiest way to restore everything else? Android will restore apps (and their data?) but how do you restore all your shortcuts, folders and such?
There are so many cool ROMs on here to try but it takes me hours to restore everything, I usually just try one and end up keeping it.
Titanium Backup Pro, take a full system backup, after flashing a new ROM just restore the install missing apk option only, and other than text messages and call logs, everything will be restored.

I used to backup apps using ES and also install them back and finally after installing all apps, I used to recover my Nova backup, which would setup my homescreen, icons, widgets and shortcuts...
I'd recommend not to backup and restore app data for all apps as I see few people reporting issues with it

So, you DO NOT recommended using an automated system to restore apps and data?
What do you do instead? Do you just re-install all of them manually? That's so time consuming, it takes me almost a whole day!

If it's not recommended to backup and restore app data, then isn't it easier just to use Android's built in app backup and restore?
