Sometimes when taking a picture it takes instantly and some times it says "hold the device steady until it finishes taking the picture"
Camera is SRT to auto and no special modes are on at all. I am inside in a well lit room it makes no sense that it would take that long to take a simple picture? Any ideas?

Open the camera, hit settings, turn off picture stabilization, it gets rid of that and the camera almost instant, MUCH better pics
I've already asked this question, comment above me answered it.

Also sometimes you think there is enough light and there isn't. The sensors are so small, that they need a lot of light to shoot as fast as they can

Is there any way to lower how bright the flash is when taking a picture? Are there any settings within the stock camera app or is there an aftermarket camera that does this? Using filters to darken the picture works ok but it sucks seeing good pictures ruined by how bright they ended up. Really disappointed with the camera on the Nexus 4 especially coming from the HTC Amaze and even my wife's SG2 does a better job.
Turn down the exposure to -1?

That did help and even went as low as -2. Thanks
Any idea why is phone camera taking about 2-3 secs after each picture to save/finish proces, so you cant take any more pictures? There is 1-2s progress bar showing that camera is working some stuff, but dunno what. Its slow and annoying...

I've only ever seen this on Samsung devices when taking a picture in HDR mode
You need to disable image stabilization. It is turned on by default.

What he said.
You'll find it as "Smart Stabilization" under the camera's settings.
My burst shot on my note 3 isn't working. I've turned it on in the camera settings and nothing. I've rooted it and installed xsposed and some modules, I've froze some apps but nothing with the camera. I've paid retail for this phone..

There's a thread on this. Some (including myself) get it to work by turning smart stabilization off. Some say burst mode works with smart stabilization on, but for me it's not consistent. With smart stabilization off it works everytime.

where is this thread?
I just now got it to work but I could only get it to work taking a pic of my laptop but can't anywhere else. I would like to know where this thread is also, I was beginning to think I got a device that was messed up

I have to turn off smart stabilization as well.
OK please delete

It only works when there is enough light. When not enough light and an icon of a hand with a star and moon displayed (smart stabilization), burst doesn't work.

I am sitting in a dimly lit room when I point my note at my laptop screen burst mode works image stab on.
When I turn away from laptop screen burst mode doesn't work I think it is the lighting.
I am starting to record my driving every time I get in the car. I'm just using the camera app but I might switch to a dedicated car dash cam app.
My friend was recently hit in the front of her car. It was totally the other guy's fault but he's claiming that she went into his lane, which is utter BS. Anyway, long story short, a lot of our friends are going to start recording our driving, esp since we all have 64gb micro SD cards anyway...may as well put that storage to good use!
I'm really happy with the results of the recorder except one major issue is that the video is really shaky even though I have it attached to a mount on the windshield.
Is there any way to dampen or absorb the vibrations of the car so the recording can be more clear?
Try the video stabilization in camera settings
I tried that, it makes no noticeable difference.

Thanks but that setting records video at 60fps. It doesn't have image stabilization.

I've considered doing this a number of times but the thought of using my phone as a cam while a nice dual use feature, it not really that practical. I am also afraid it would get damaged way too easily for that type of purpose when a second device which is desiged to do it will do it better, be a lot more rugged and capable.
I am getting a Drift Innovation HD Ghost for this purpose. They actually make a much less expensive one that does 720 which is more than enough for dash cam usage, but the HD Ghost has a DVR like mode which records over the same memory device automatically and easily saves an incident with the click of a button for later playback. Still a lot of money, but it would keep the phone being my phone and do a much better job at recording the vehicle in motion.
I tried it and 60fps makes no difference.

Anyone else noticing that when not in PERFECT lighting conditions pictures are blurry..
Yes - it's been driving me crazy... most of the time the pictures come out blurry. I've been messing around with different modes/settings and I cannot get a consistent clear picture. Pretty frustrating!
Take the sticker off the lense?

Yes, absolutely notice this. Brought it up in the other thread but no one thought it was worth checking. Have done tons of side by sides with Note 2 and honestly this camera is very touchy. Has a tiny field and it's often hard to see where that is in the pics. I really hope the camera gets a software update and it's not hardware because the camera has been the only thing I'm on the fence about. When you zoom in, even in good light, things in the taken pic get blurry and almost look like they have an effect.

Also, noticed right away. I thought maybe that I was just sleepy! lol, but what are the odds of a software update helping the issue?

Hopefully this new update that no one else seems to have gotten will help!!
Additionally, I feel that many times the camera has trouble focusing. Anyone else agree?

once i turned picture stabilazation off mine takes perfect pics
I tried turning mine off but seems the same.
Pictures in bright env. seem fine but indoors just flat out sucks.
I can hold my hand a little away from the camera a bit and it won't focus on it. If I tap to make it focus it sometimes turns green like it did but my hand is still blurry.
I hope they push a SW fix soon.
I don't understand it. How can you not catch some of this before release? Camera is a basic function of a smart phone...

May be an obvious question but has anyone tried some good 3rd party camera apps to see if it helps? Just a thought.

One thing I noticed with a Note 3: The auto-shake correct seems to do this. Try turning that off and it seemed to improve the quality.
Yeah I have this problem too, and just made a thread about it in the Q&A forum.

I really hope a update comes out to fix all this and it's not just poor HW :/
It's just sad that these basic obvious issues make it out the door.
They should have caught these things and I understand shipments went already but we should have had updates just waiting for us to fix em.
Oh well, time shall tell I guess. Sprint won't help I'm sure given how slow they are to push updates too...
Anyone mess with any video? How's that, clear, blurry mixture mess? lol
That prob has ability to be better or worse I guess. You've got 1080P mode and 4K HD, which when enabled seems to kill off a number of features.
I've not messed with it yet but just wondering.

You do realize Sprint is the best carrier in terms of updates.Just an FYI...
I simply dont get very good pictures in anything that isn't natural full daylight. Not necessarily blurry, just extremely grainy. But thats rather expected with most smartphones.

Im coming over from an iPhone 5 and noticed this immediately. The camera just flat out sucks!
My camera had a habit of switching to 6 mega pixels on its own for some reason. I have to constantly check to make sure it's still on 16 when I use it.
