No SD card detected issue/error - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
My phone was working fine until this morning, now I can't use camera, download anything, use the gallery or other things that require storage however i can take screenshots use snap gallery instead of stock...
How would i fix this?
Example of the problem:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Any help would be appreciated.

Probably gonna need a factory reset, maybe a full flash to stock.

Well, considering the nexus 4 doesn't have an external SD card but rather a partition on the internal storage called sdcard there should be a way to fix this on the software side. Are you rooted? If yes use es file explorer and try to access your storage from the root directory (/sdcard/).

Yes, I'm rooted. I'm on Paranoid Android 4.3
I've used Solid Explorer (like es explorer) and I can access sdcard and all my files are still there

So it seems the partition is not broken. I think the /sdcard/ path is a symlink. The actual destination on my device is /storage/emulated/legacy. Maybe the link to /sdcard/ is broken. Usually apps just access /sdcard/, might be the reason why it's not working. I'm not familiar with that kinda stuff, though. Maybe someone else can shed some light.

Yeah /sdcard/ is a symlink hopefully someone can reply with advice

Due to the fact that you can access the symlink with a file manager I doubt the problem is the symlink itself but maybe the permissions?
This is what mine look like. I've used script manager app because it shows permissions and symlinks easier.

Dirty reflash the ROM from recovery, should fix the problem.

Lol your code signature is not very good, are you a beginner? Delphi?

Seriously... a signature is limited on characters and this is just a simple little if statement; it's not supposed to be good code and clearly you're the beginner if you don't know what language it is and question if it's delphi.

Try flashing a stock firmware to see if it solves the problem.

[Q] ryanza's one click lag fix, i need it

does anybody have ryanza's one click lag fix. i need a copy of it, and its not in the market.
Search the development section there are many posts related to it. There also is an app on the market just search for one click lag fix.
Is root needed?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
the one downloaded from the market has rooting capabilities built in. check it out. i rooted mine beforehand so can't verify how well the market OCLF works.
One click lag fix from market is a must have app . It'll root, unroot, lag fix and unlag fix. Just the ****.
Really could not find this app by searching? Really?

if i used the ADB version of ryan's lagfix and install this app, will it still work to unlagfix, etc?
dont want to **** anything up ... thoughts?
just installed it and checked, looks like unless the app has done the fix, it cant undo it.
all i can do is:
install ext2 tools
check data/data free space
unroot device 2.1
change scheduler

same with mine when i tried to install it.. you need to have 40% of battery or more in order to install the lag fix, at least that's what happened to mine..
charge it up then install it..
Did your first boot take like five minutes? Really thought I bricked my phone, but it finally booted.the reason I ask here is because another guy in the main thread had that same issue but was ignored. Boot takes at least 60 seconds of black screen before the boot animation loads..

I just DLed "one click lag fix" on Tuesday. Worked great for me. Does everything for you. However if it fails do a reboot between steps.

Your next step is to install ext2 tools. then, the option to apply the lag fix will be enabled. two more steps and you're done.
When you install the OCLF app, you have to create a partition. When you undo the lag fix, does it undo the partition you made? Or, would you have to undo everything AND uninstall the whole app?
I think the partition created when installing this is causing a problem with titanium backup (it's backing up to my internal SD instead of the external SD card). I want to work backwards for a second and see if that indeed is the problem, but I don't know how to modify or even verify existing partitions.
Yeah I thought I was going to faint waiting fit my phone to boot up..

That scared the hell out of me too. First reboot took freakin forever. I was sweating bullets

[Q] Multiple roms in one Defy??

I have been wondering if we could install multiple ROMs in our phones at once and switch between them as we would wish. Thereby skipping the pain of making contacts and app backups.
After a bit of Googling, i came across an app named "Boot Manager",which allows you to install 5 ROMs at once, but alas, it doesn't support our defy...
It would be great if i could have MIUI in my phone besides CM7,
Afaik, Technically it IS possible...
The ROMs would be installed in our SD Card and the phone will then be able to boot images of the desired rom, we wish to switch to.
If anyone has any information, then please share.
This is a video of the app running in HTC Sensation. Do check it out.

Guys, we have to make this Awesome thing run in our defy...!! Anyhow..!!
Good question dude.
I've been wondering if I can have cyanogenmod installed and if I can switch back to stock incase I'm not satisfied with CMod.

Some good news,
The boot manager app can be used in Defy as well by configuring it manually using the adb shell.
Gonna try it in a day or two.

Alright friends, so it actually is possible for us to use the boot manager app.
All we got to do is to manually configure the settings.
Here is what we need to configure:

I have read in the help manual that the settings can be configured using adb.
But i dont have a pc with me these days.
So either if someone who knows how to use adb can find out the sizes of the folder and share here, or we will have to find a way to find out the size of the root folders using terminal emulator.
Further questions are welcomed.
we should type the total size of data system and cache or the used space
Someone test this ?
It's quite interesting, but what about applications, data etc, i think so one rom should be primary (in phone memory)
we should type the total size of data system and cache or the used space

The Total size that is allocated to these folders, not the used space.

The settings need to be configured for which the size of the folders has to be known, and that can be done via adb.

system size:325.1
data size:1200
cache:193.7

How did you find the following values?? Using adb?
Next when i configured my boot manager with the settings provided by you and tried to install a ROM into the SD card it first asked me to choose b/w Ext2 or Ext4.
Then on selecting any of the above an error popped up saying "Error making img" - Error making img to hold filesystem. Please try again.

[Q] Nexus System Partition Size

Hi, I'm not sure if this is specifically a Nexus question or a general Android question but I have both a Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 and have observed the same behaviour on both
I have posted in the General section with nor response so now I'm posting on specific forums
Basically what's happening is when I delete stuff from the SDcard the free space seems to be allocated to the system partition WTF?!
Take a look at the screenshots I'm going to try a couple of things - one of the suggested things was clearing the data in the Google Services Framework data >> Settings - Apps - All - Google Services Framework - Clear Data - which freed up some of it but not all, the next thing from here for me would be to flash the factory images again and see what I start out with
Both devices are on CM10.1 if that helps, is anyone else is having the same issue??

Ok so this is my partition sizes now after flashing the factory images back onto my nexus 7. No where near 5GB anyone have any idea what's causing this?
I am guessing you have a couple of CWM back up? Maybe 3-4 of them? Maybe you tried to delete some of them?
Buggy CWM Recovery. Especially if you still hang on to the older versions. Mostly because the way CWM save the backup files.

I just use TiBU and DataSync now, stopped doing nandroids a while back now
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
It's not "system data" for sure. It's some apps with root permission saving its file to locations it shouldn't be doing.
Some how l still think it is CWM, even as you stopped using it in a distance past (which is like 1-2 months ago). I recommend flashing newest CWM and see if there're still old back up files.
If you still can't find anything, try this
bassmadrigal said:
If you are rooted and have adb set up on your computer, you can find out what folders are using the most space by using the commands below, then change into that directory and run the command again.
Code:
adb
su
cd /
du -hd 1
--find the largest folder and change directory (cd) into it - if you find you no longer want to continue in the folder you are in, you can cd .. to get to the previous folder or cd / to get back to the root of the filesystem--
Code:
cd large_folder
du -hd 1
rinse
repeat
????
profit
This will allow you to find what folders are using the most space and can eventually lead you to any large files and can then let you find out if you can delete them or if you need to keep them.

isnt this what they were saying was the reason for no SD card and use of MTP ?; basically if i recall correctly the nexus devices do not truly assign partitions instead there is a storage 'pool' that anything can use dynamically.
We got tired of seeing OEMs include many GB of internal storage for music, while users were still running out of space for apps and data. This approach lets us merge everything on one volume, which is way better.

so i guess there is no partitions its just all 1 volume.

R/W or not?

Root Browser tells me my \system folder has read write access, and I was successful in renaming the file in \system\app to block OTA. However, ES File Explorer tells me that my \system folder is read only. If that was the case, wouldn't I have gotten an error messages when renaming the file?

I'm always unsure if my question is a stupid question. You then get attacked by all kinds of people lol.
I'm not sure what to say about ES. In case your antsy you can always free the 2 updater apps with root uninstaller or something similar. This has worked for me in the past. One is something like OTAUpdate and there's another one that says something like firmware updater or something like that.

You can set the permissions on individual files. Might be why the folder shows read only but you where able to rename the file.
If you look at my screens hot of root browser, you'll see that. The system folder has rw for the Owner (me since I'm rooted)
Sent from my SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 4
If Root Explorer said it changed it, I'm sure that it changed it. Try to view the file on ES and see if the name reflects the change.
ES file Manager now has an option for Root Explorer (turn it on or off). If it's off it won't request superuser access.
Look under settings in ES file manager, scroll down and turn on Root Explorer.

Life saver because I was just going nuts. Finally I can go back to watch the Pats/Broncos
Here is something I've done just FYI. I am running Beans build 2 and I've been tinkering with different things. Once I've seen that everything has been running good and I have everything flashed that I like then I made a nandroid and then I flashed it on my stock ROM slot. Once I did that I still noticed that I only had 4gb left on internal, I went into ROM slot 1 and deleted, not just wipe. Same on ROM slot 2. I now show 14gb of internal memory thru my standard settings. Everything is still running fine as well.

This is normal. It has to do with the way the partitions are created. First time I seen it I was confused as well. If you boot to Stock your storage space will read normal or as someone else said use a file manager to see how much space is left. Mine currently says I have 2gb of free space left when I have more like 20.
Normally this wouldn't bother me... But I am getting out of space errors. Yesterday I couldn't even stream Google music until I deleted the cached data.
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
I took a capture of my storage and gave some details. The key is to start with a large slot. Think of it as your sandbox. The larger you make it the more you can put into it. If I remember right I did 4 gigs for data. The slot acts like a mini internal drive. It includes the custom rom the apps and data. You could save space by moving apps and downloads to the ext sd card or other parts of the internal drive. The apps would need to be done by normal means in settings so you don't loose functionality. Downloads and other files by way of root explorer.

Thanks danthepunman.
I bumped my data storage up to 4gb....however, is there a way to get it even higher? I stream google music all day long at work, so my cache is a bit of a space hog. Plus I like to have my phone stocked full of all kinds of apps.

In regards to the size I think that is set in stone. It's larger than what we had in on the Bionic. I would defer that to Hashcode's expertise.
With Google music it says it only uses space as it is available. In the app you can clear the cache or uncheck the cache. If you want to personally delete the files they can be found through root explorer:
/datamedia user 0 comgoogleandroidmusic files music
each file is 6 to 15 mbs. there can delete the select ones you want. If someone was good at scripts you can probably funnel that folder to your SD card.
Hey I found this on Beans tonight . It's in exposed under download section. I don't Know if it will work but you might want to give it a try.
