I have just been having a read about the 4.4 for N3 and people are talking about the new bootloader and not forcing it and some people being hard bricked.
My question is this, is going from a custom 4.3 to a custom 4.4 is there anything I need to do to make sure it installs correctly or doesn't hard brick?
Or is the only problem going from 4.4 back to 4.3?
At the moment on X-Note and just looking at a couple of the other Touchwiz 4.4 custom roms, if I install one of them can I not go back?
And is this the same for the CM 4.4 Nightlies?
Thanks

Bootloader will auto install if you choose XEO package.
You cannot go back once you upgrade, so no CM no XNOTE etc (for now at least) - You can go on SweetROM or AndroidNOW and a couple of others though.

But I can go from any 4.4 ROM to any other 4.4 ROM? So I could go to CM11 from SweetROM or AndroidNOW?

CM is 4.4 but the bootloader is MJ7 based. Which means it will not work on the NA6 Bootloader that comes with 4.4.2 -- You can use SweetROM AndroidNOW, KINGDROID or FlexKAT only. No CM Build will run on the NA6 Bootloader currently and probably not for a long time yet.

Cool, good to know. If I had backed up a ROM not on NA6, could I restore back to that? That restores the old bootloader, yeah?
Nope, Samsung block all downgrades. And this applies to NA6, which means once you upgrade to NA6 you are stuck with it until further notice with no return. Chances are a return will never be possible the same as going back before MJ7 which is still impossible.

Just, hopefully, one last thing:
If I do go from a NA6 back to MJ7, will I brick my phone?

IF you attempt it you will bootloop, so basically a soft brick yes. And you'll need to reflash NA6 to get out of the bootloop

What region is your phone? If its Hong Kong TGY, then you can install only Hong Kong Firmware. So, be careful.

Dial *#1234# on your phone. You'll you'll see three codes, AP, CP and CSC.
In CSC, check what code you see.
compare it to these region codes : http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Csc

My CSC is N9005OXXDMK3, it doesn't match any of the codes...
@alpward , did you try to update your firmware using Kies3? Since you have a Poland CSC, you should get the Official 4.4.2 update via Kies. Give it a try.

I don't really want to go to a non-custom ROM. My other question is, if I backup a pre 4.4 pre-new bootloader ROM, can I restore back to it after going to the new bootloader or does it lock it forever?

Yip, I'd sit on your current BL for now, see what happens with this new KK stuff in the next few weeks... Especially now sources are available etc also.

How can you tell what bootloader the ROM has before installing? As in, CM11 doesn't have the new bootloader, right?
ROM Post should tell you what BL it's running, and yes, CM runs on the old BL either MJ7 or MK* depending on build.
I'll start off with the phone details
Galaxy S4 GT-i9505
Provider: Optus (Australia)
Baseband:I9505XXUEMK9
I'm looking for the stock S4 recovery and ROM (JellyBean 4.3) and I cannot find them anywhere!
I recently rooted my S4, flashed CWM onto it and installed the S4 Google Edition Anrdroid 4.4.2 ROM.
I don't care if the method wipes all data, wipes root access etc, I just want stock everything so I can send my phone away under warranty.
So please, if you know a method, the location of the stock files or anything please chuck it my way.
Also if you know of any good S4 compatible 4.4.2 KitKat ROMs (Or really, really, good 4.3 ROMS) I wouldnt mind them either
Much, much, much appreciated
Sorry if this was the wrong section to post this in, but I need help and I have no idea where else this would go.

Thank you! That link helps heaps for the ROMs but I'm still looking for a stock recovery for my S4. [Edit: Does that unroot/ flash to stock firmware link include the stock recovery?]

Flashing the stock rom with Odin will unroot and install the stock recovery as well, it's included, so no need to find recovery and flash it separately.

Try this(although I'm unsure if it will flash correctly because it's 4.2.2 version) or look for "factory Firmware"

PDA.
is there a way to downgrade Android 4.4.2 to Android 4.3 on the i9500 i need this urgently. (Stock Official Samsung Touchwiz)
Have you tried downloading the 4.3 ROM for your phone's region from www.sammobile.com/firmware and flashing it with Odin? If you are not sure how to do that, you should be able to find lots of info in the forum explaining how.
BTW, questions should be posted in the Q&A forum.
Best wishes

If you flash the 4.4.2 stock rom then there's no way you can downgrade your phone .

You can still downgrade your phone , by using a Custom rom. But if you flash a stock 4.4.2 STOCK then you can no longer downgrade yoUR phone into 4.3 STOCK rom via odin.

Go to sammobile.com. and get it from there, then use Odin to install it.
But considering the fact that 4.4 was never released for Australia, which ROM to flash and what about the CSC?
Bump. Any idea on this one?

Hi I really want to install xposed on my galaxy s4 but it requires deodexed firmware .
There aren't very many options for lollipop custom rooms for my android model : jfltecan
I was wondering if someone wouldn't mind deodexing the stock firmware for me or provide some wlkthrough instructions.
I'd appreciate it a Lot.

I've used townsenk's method on my S4 i9505 ROM before, back when I was on stock. Doesn't require a factory reset.
Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s5/general/how-to-deodex-lollipop-rom-t3065596
If you run into any troubles or want to undo the deodexing process, simply use Odin to flash back the stock firmware (to download stock firmware, use either the sammobile website or the SamFirm tool).
For 5.0.x odexed use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65373013&postcount=3960
works without deodexed.
