Hi,
I bought my galaxy s5 exynos version. It is overheating a lot. Its body gets pretty hot and temp sensors show that the battery temp is 38 degrees and body temp is 33 degrees. The battery life also is really poor.. it went to 47% in just 3.5 hrs of usage even with power savings. Is it a problem with phone's battery? I have attached a screenshot of battery stats.
Are the other users using smg900h facing this problem of heating and battery drain? is there any workaround? Please help me.

Not at all... There's something wrong with yours. I usually get 6+ hrs screen on time on mine.
Battery lasts a day.
Any app you recently installed? Or maybe your SD Card has some corrupted files and the Media Scanner gets stuck?

No the media server isnt popping up. Now as I am writing this , the battery drain slowed down and now it is on 23%. This is my first discharge of phone though.. Also what about overheating? Mine remains warm while browsing and becomes hot after using a bit of camera. I dont know why but my ears feel the heat during a voice call.
Try the fixes in my thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2745909

Hi! sorry about my English.
I'm having the same problem with my exynos galaxy s5. It sometimes gets really hot and the battery drains really fast, even with low usage (emails and whatapp). It's definitely a software problem, because it disappears on reboot. But after a while it returns.
After a reboot i can get sometimes 4.5h to 5h or more of screen on time with no overheating, full day, but than something triggers and i have 2.5 screen or 3h max on with a hot device on wifi, and terrible standby time.
I can't pinpoint the problem. It's not a wakelock problem. I Checked wakelock detector (PC version, since my device is unrooted), and it shows only 8% wake on a full day (yesterday).
The battery on setting shows normal usage: the screen is always on top, followed by android os.
I really don't know what to do, besides keeping rebooting the device every day. No luck turning locations services off.
As I mentioned, that is not normal at all, this is my battery life:

Do you have the Exynos or the Snapdragon version?
i'm having similar issues with mine, but i managed to get better battery life by turning off location reporting, samsung account, chatON, my magazine, polaris and changing the location to GPS only, it's not drastically different but as of right now im at 61% with 13h off the charger and 30m on screen time.

Yes, an old class 10 16GB card. I have it since I got the S3... I stopped using it while I had the Nexus 4 and 5.

Dont have this issue at all, i charge it when the battery is below 20%
use greenify and blaze kernel for SM-G900F with the power suspend 1% drop in 5 hours
Try to reboot every time of overheating. This should resolve the problem.

man! Really ?? I can only get around 3 hours and 40 minutes at best.
which variant you're using bro ? I am using SM-G900H and trying to buy another spare battery.
Do you perhaps have 1+ Exchange accounts filled with data (email, calendar, contacts, memos, ..). I had this issue on my Nexus 4. As I wiped and flashed the device often, I noticed that the issue was not appearing when I forgot to add one of my Exchange accounts. What fixed it was deleting most unwanted data from my Exchange accounts (old e-mails, all sent e-mails, ecc.). Just guessing.

It sound like you have a faulty battery if it only lasts three hours, I think you would have to be gaming to flatten a good battery in that time.
John.
Mine is the same. If I'm browsing the web, using instagram, Facebook and receiving email my battery will go from full to empt in easily 3 to 4 hours.
Backup, factory reset, reinstall apps from market (try to install only the ones you use a lot at first), restore the data you need. If you're still seeing the same things happening, install a battery logger / system logger. Use this guide to see if there's a rogue app that's causing the trouble: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937080
If it's still acting up and you cannot identify any unusual drain, I'd ask for a replacement.
After you get things sorted, you can use apps like Juice Defender from the Market to prolong your battery life even more.

thanks guys for the sincere contribution.... i hope your advices help me...
my top battery consuming activities are:
temple run
google play
msging
go launcher
and nothing else
gaming and browsing certainly make the battery drain almost visibly..
things above and beyond the above to try include..
1. reduce screen brightness
2. reduce frequency of or disable background updates by apps
3. no vibrate notifications
4. work more, play less!..lol
the battery life of the Note is great, unless you use it .. a battery monitor will allow you to see the battery drain over time..this will help when you address item #2 above.. if you accept default refresh times, and have lots of social apps your battery can die in 6-7 hrs without even using the Note at all!..
I really love when people give the tip to not use your phone as a battery saving tip

some hints for better battery life
Got mine the other day. First charge battery was fine. Second charge went down 7% in about 5-10 mins. Then it restarted :/ Came back on, down to 88%. Turned the phone off as was frustrating me as it restarted 3 times yesterday. But when I turned it back on I was at 83%?
Hasn't last me the day, it's on charge now. When it pops up telling me to charge it tells me to shut all apps and that using while charging may effect it charging. Is this correct? I didn't think it would have anything to do with it?
3 to the 4 hours continuous use is normal... Only if your phone is standby and then depletes in that time You should be worried. I recommend researching wakelocks in that case.
There are many variables that can atribute to batterylife depletion. Eliminate those first and you will have your answer.
I had best results on stunner version 19. To bad it has the death kernel (leaked ics)

I logged the battery usage this night and in just seven hours of sleep it dropped from 63%-53%. That is absolutely unacceptable and far from the 0-1% people were talking around early release. The endurance tests that say 7-8 hours of webbrowsing or 9 hours of video playback are far from the results I'm getting. I rarely get over 3½ hrs of screen on time. I know 3g was on, but with only Email allowed to sync I don't understand how it can drain so badly.

There's probably some rogue app sucking all your battery. Use an app like BetterBatteryStats to get a better idea of what the cause might be. That amount of battery drain definitely isn't normal.

There doesn't seem to be any problem. None of those wakelocks was long enough to be considered a real problem. This is weird. But as for fast dormancy, you can disable it. But I have no idea how to on the S4. You'll have to search for that. There was an app for the S3 that you could try on the S4. No guarantee it'll work though.

Was the battery life always terrible or is it just now?
I'm having a similar problem so I'll use this thread instead of creating a new one. I hope you don't mind.
My battery is draining at a rate of 15% per hour even If I leave it on standby, ocasionally turning on the screen to get a message on Whatsapp of checking the time. It was 100% this morning, 1 and a half hours later, 74%.
After reading on the forums that the cause of the battery drain could be that the phone was constantly trying to get network signal (in cases where the signal is poor, like where I live), I decided to switch on airplane mode. To my surprise, in 3 minutes after this the phone was in 75%. 10 minutes later and I got a 76%. As I write (on PC) it is on 80%.
That's right. The phone started "recharging" without a cable (I know this is impossible, just describing what the display shows me) after I turned on airplane mode.
Any ideas about what might be going on and how can I solve this?
Thanks in advance!
P.S.: It's not the battery itself, as I've bought a brand-new, samsung original battery and the draining was still the same
EDIT: the battery started behaving like this only a few weeks ago. So I'd assume that the signal problem could be helping, but would not be the main reason on why my battery goes down so quickly.

Otherwise try to borrow a battery from somewhere just to be sure it isn't the battery.
Hello,
After reading alot of reviews about the s7 edge battery life i decided to get it. so i got 2 days ago and was really excited about it. the problem the battery is draining so fast and thats really confusing
ive seen screenshots with 50 hours and 60 hours with estimated time. mine barely shows 7 hours. today for example i left the house at 8 with 92% and now im back wth 36% left screen was on auto with wifi
and 3g and sometime gps on. is this normal? am i being paranoid? is it true that the battery will get better with more days of use?
Please tell me what should i do im really worried that its faulty or something.
PS: i did a factory reset before i use it.
Yes, it will take a couple of days for the battery to level out. Do you have the Exynos or Snapdragon processor? What apps are reporting high battery use? Have you disabled any apps?
Sorry for the barrage of questions, but all of these things play a role in your battery life. I recommend GSAM battery monitor and Greenify with aggressive doze, but I will say that 50-60 hours is ambitious. I can usually get 25-30 hours with about 5 hours of SOT. That is with a combination of wifi, 4g, gps and Bluetooth on (android wear), some gaming and facebook, instagram, etc.

If I'm reading correctly, you are losing about 60% in 5 hours? If so, that is definitely excessive even during the first 2 or 3 days unless the screen was on and the phone active the entire time. Can you post screen shots of you battery stats? Maybe some app is causing the problem, but is not being reported as using too much battery.
Some folks say that the different firmwares have different battery usage. Has yours updated?

ok someone told me to turn it off and charge to 100% so i dont have enough data now. but im doing a test now with pokemon go lol
the screen is on about 70% brightness wifi and gps are on and radio is off (i have low cell signal now) and music app playing in the background and now after 50 minutes i am at 89% with screen on all the time. do you think this is good or bad?
i just noticed something in most of the screen shots from other people gsam shows about 3.80v near the temperature but mine show 4.07v does this makes any difference?
That sounds normal for an hour of paying Pokemon Go. It's pretty battery intensive. That voltage is just the current battery charge. It'll drop as your battery percent drops.

Dear all,
My S7 edge would give me a very good battery life at the beginning. For instance, i would charge it to 100%, it would take 15 to 20 mins of continuous usage to become 99%. And further same speed till 0.
But since 2 to 3 months, it is draining very fast no matter how many times i flashed with the latest firmware. 100% to 99% in 3 mins of usage. And further every percent goes down in 2-3 mins.
Is the battery spoilt? Do i need to replace it? Any solution? I did try calibrating from 0 to 100%. No use.
If battery needs to be replaced so, do service centre replace as if it was never opened? Cause i love my phone to look new and when i sell them, no one should make out i replaced it or opened the phone.
Kindly guide. Thank you.
Your trying to tell me your surprised that the battery is draining while your using the phone?
I've been sat here surfing the net, reading tapatalk and replying to messages for the past 40 mins and I've lost 5% but you know I'm using the phone, so it's expected.
If you think it's abnormal (it isn't) check what's running in the background, hardware intensive apps are obviously going to cause the battery to drain faster, put them to sleep in the battery section and get bbs to check for wakelocks and alarms etc...

Thanks for the reply. Could you please tell me how to check and give you a record of the whole to cross check if possible?
The drain is very fast even after flashing and not installing anything on it.
