Tethering

I searched for 'tethering' and 'tether' but didn't find it here.
Tethering allows you to use your phone as a router to access data services from laptops and other similar devices. While the speeds may not be close to broadband, with maximum connectivity with 3G webpages load quite fast.

Android ?! Moto - HTC ?
If its a free open source app and not a paid app from the market your fine run a search though for wireless tether for root users and go to the google.code and you can get the WiFi tether app

If you have root, then yes, Wireless Tether for Root Users solves that and doesn't get you charged by your carrier
I've used it extensively on Sprint, as long as you're not tethering to a lot of deivces, you're good

Oh my word! George gone done and let the cat loose again.

There is an app in the market called penetrate. Isnt this illegal and if so doesn't it violate googles TOS? I could be wrong but none the less I downloaded it and tried it out. It works. But what legal uses could this actually have? Just some thought is all. But then wouldn't apps for rooted phones violate there TOS?

It cracks wifi routers and displays the key. but only some routers are supported. Still cant figure oit how this would be used legally.

Yes... Theres like a thousand more on the market so I'm guessing yes

Is android like windows where if you install/uninstall things like that all the time the system becomes trashed/laggy? that is the reason i do not do that. if your telling me otherwise i'll let the notion in my head go.

stop being a wannabe-mod.
He's asking, its a question.
If it's so damn "illegal" then why are there like 500 of em' on the market?
Well, there's more. There's portscanners, sniffers, wardrive tools etc. Yes there's a lot of hackertools at the market, those may be morally wrong to use, but not illegal in all parts of the world

1) i never stated i'll be using it. I have wifi everywhere i go. i always go to friends, my own house, school, or starbucks so i'm good.
2) If people are smart enough to "hack into my system" inside i'll be waiting with a sign saying "congrats!!! you just spent all that time hacking me when you could've knocked on my door and gotten the password! WOOPIE!"
IDC if anyone "hacks" into my wifi.
If more people use it its not costing my extra, so i don't really care. I give my friends my wifi pass if they need/want it anyways.

The only reason why i asked was because my neighbor has a jailbroken ipod touch and he was able to cracked my password on my wifi and use my wifi and he showed me how he did it. I wasnt asking to steal from anyone i was just curious thats all.

Raymond4, I hope you're wearing a fire-retardant suit today!
In the interest of network security, here's some tips for preventing your WiFi from being hacked again. This is how I understand network security from a consumer standpoint, I'm not a network admin or IT guy, so do your own homework:
WiFi Protocol
WPA2 - Use this! It's the best consumer-grade WiFi protocol.
WPA - Meh. It's inbetween WPA2 & WEP.
WEP - Avoid if at all possible! This is old and very weak and susceptible to hacking these days, I'm guessing this is what you were using when your friend hacked your WiFi.
WiFi Encryption
AES - Use this! AES is the strongest encryption used in consumer routers, especially combined with WPA2.
AES + TKIP - Meh.
TKIP - Avoid! Like WEP, this is old and decrepit, also my guess for what you were using at the time...
Finally, make sure you use as difficult a password as your encryption level will allow you, yet you can still remember! Changing case (upper, lower), letters, numbers, & special characters should all be part of it if you're using a protocol/encryption that allows all the above.
Thanks

Its called Penetrate. Your welcome. Have fun, download the file and put it on your SD card. The extra files you need to download that is.
Penetrate doesn't work. Had it a week and it couldn't do anything. All the ssid it found weren't supported..
Yeah, it's more for over seas routers I think. Alot aren't supported, I couldn't get it work either, but thats all there is for that purpose that i know of.

[Q]About Open Garden wifi tethering

I tried using the open garden wifi tethering app (rooted off course) but when i was using it, i got a notification saying hotspot was activated. So i clicked on it and it took me to sprint hotspot app saying "hotspot activated". This is the first time something like this happened (used Open Garden before) and got scared because i know i have to pay 49.99 or something like that to use the app, and stopped tethering. Should i be scare about this? Despite the fact that the app said i was using hotspot, i wasn't using their hotspot app and the thing to activated it on the app was unchecked.
I want to know because i am under my fathers plan and he said if i ever added an extra payment on the bill he'll take me off his plan.
Also sorry for posting a question on this board, people usually go in the general forums a lot more and reply to topics faster.

How does this even begin to address the OP's concern? You responded to a keyword that you recognized in the post, instead of comprehending the meaning of all of his words in the order in which they were presented.
He is worried that he will be charged for using the paid hotspot, and rooting his phone won't change it if he was being billed.
However, it sounds like that app has been updated, borrowing from the free wifi tethering app (open garden wifi is based off of the open source wifi tether, hosted on Google projects).
It is activating software that is already present in the stock firmware, but it cannot call Sprint and ask them to add an option to your plan. The paid hotspot (unhacked) will not work without that option on your plan, so if it is working then you either added the option, or you aren't being charged because it was activated via a hack.

Since it seems that open garden is always just a little behind the open source project on which it is based, I think it is a safe bet that the "developers" behind open garden haven't added anything other than gps tracking of its users. I say, just stick to wifi tether, since it is the original (and I don't trust an app that only adds location tracking when the purpose of the app has nothing to do with location)

Really? You have enough spare time to call me out? Lol. Ugothakd was SUGGESTING where he felt my thread was best suited. I don't find it needing to go in themes when fonts are but a simple general customization that can live without theming the framework-res. This OP had a question, (which was generously answered anyway, which in fact does have a direct connection to our section Questions & Answers section. You need a life my friend.

Couldn't have thought of it..

Hey guys, check out this cool app here-
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.helloklick.android
Note:You'll need to buy a really 'cheap on pocket' device to use it which doubles up as a Dust-Plug.. Or rather I should say, it's actually a Dust Plug that doubles up(or even more)..
I just now ordered it and it costed me only US$ 2.24 including shipping money
Waiting eagerly for it to arrive to me..
I'm not posting any links here to the device because I'm not sure as to whether it'll be an infringement of XDA's rules..
For those who're worried that it might get lost while using earphones-it has a solution to it too..
Last but not least, it couples up with Tasker.. :victory:
Here's a quick video, the version of app is old here though, but it'll familiarize you with the device and the app itself-
http://youtu.be/CQJvdU7TPBs
It'll work for Android devices only.. Not sure about the minimum version of Android required though..
Let me know how this turns out for you

I did a quick search and liked the idea but the problem I think would be that in pocket, those 4 buttons could be activated due to its placement on the backside, talking of backside of phone, I use a wallet case for my Note 3 and that wouldn't let me use Dimple..
You know what..
I just now figured out that, the button on the earphone would function like the button on this smart dust plug when one is using the earphone.. :victory:
For those of you interested in it, it's called-
360 Universal 3.5mm Plug One-click Shortcut Key
Pretty long name I know..
But what's in the name..
And the name of the app is Klick
It's available here for download..
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...m=klick&pcampaignid=APPU_57SwU7qWI8WFOL7dgegJ
Great thing-it won't compromise with the security of your phone.
Pre-assigned app will be launched and using that app to navigate further into system will take you back to the lock screen..

Battery performance is still fine for me..
I came across Pressy only after I ordered the Smart Dust Plug for myself and realised that the Chinese manufacturers copied this idea too..
Because they weren't required to put in R&D like the Pressy guys did, it costs only a small fraction of it without the need to wait for it to get delivered..
It's sad for the Pressy guys but you just can't stop the Chinese manufacturers..
InPrivate
Could anyone please share the Activation Code of their Pressy, I want to give the related app a try with my Dust Plug. .
