I noticed that it was working though I didn't find the open under the settings, but after I changed the brightness settings, seems like it doesn't anymore!!
Is SE hidden "Auto" under the carpet?
Dont be silly, the setting is right there... oh... actually, where has it gone?
Hmmm... cant find it in settings, sure it was there before. Try widgetsoid, that has an auto brightness toggle which works fine.

Are you guys are serious or just try to be
Ever since X10 was upgraded to 2.1, they took away the "auto brightness" from it. It used to be there when it was 1.6. Now I don't find that option in Arc as well, which is kind of weired. If you guys found it ... then I don't have any words to say!!

not being sarcastic mate..
when i got the arc I really remember seeing the option and testing it out...
since I never use it I really havent gone to the display settings (just use a widget to control brightness)..
after I read this post I went to chk it and it wasnt there...funny!

Honestly, I'm not trying to be funny here, but my Arc is only couple of days old and since I bought I didn't find this option at all. This particularly bothers me when I go out the brightness is too dark to read and I've to adjust it and then I come inside the shade, it's too dark
Honestly i swear there was one there - there was a checkbox on the slider popup. There was a software update about a week after i got mine, maybe they removed it in that.
I also remember reading something about it *always* being on regardless, and all the slider does in settings is set a general level it will change around, i.e. a 'gain' setting. Maybe that's what's changed in the update, and why they removed the checkbox. However, that doesnt explain why it doesnt seem to be working for you.
Regardless, auto-brightness still works on mine if i enable it via widgetsoid (or any other extended controls widget will probably do it). I can put my thumb over the sensor and the screen will darken etc.
it's always on apparently. i've tested it by passing the light sensor part of the phone over a ray of light coming from the window and you can see the brightness change. the light sensor refreshes every 3-5 secs or so.

I tested with the application you have recommended and setting it to auto seems like doing the job but it wasn't the case with some other widgets I tried. I don't quite understand why SE has to remove that check box. They did it for X10 when they upgraded from v1.6 to v2.1 and they seems like done it for Arc as well with smaller firmware update. But thanks anyway the application.
By-the-way are you using the same firmware version as mine or is it different?

I tried all methods from this thread and my auto brightness was not working until I put Power control Wideget (the one originally installed with system). One settings of its most right button activated auto brightness. Now it is nice to have it working.

I'm not sure what happened there, it works for me with widgetsoid without any issues! But I did face issues with few other widgets like Switchpro widgets or Extended Controls.
I don't think the Xperia Arc has auto brightness setting for the display. I looked at the power control widget, and the brightness control button does not have the 'A' state.

Have you tried the widget suggested? It has that "A" option you mentioned.
At the left side of the speaker for phoning theres this 5mm dot like thing. When I put my thumb on it, the brightness changes drastically. It probably thinks that Im in a dark room. When I release my thumb it goes back to normal. I notice this a lot since I put my left thumb there while watching movies.
Sooo ... auto brightness worked for me out of the box.
(I love the screen in direct sunlight ! On my mums milestone (droid) you can basically see nothing !)

Bought mine a month ago and one of the first things i did was adjusting display brightness. There was no auto brightness option and still isn't, 100% sure (.181). But it's working fine so i have no problem with it.

Yeah, there were quite a few bugs with 1.2.8. I had to send a full bug report to Motorola, as did others.
Some issues included:
Notifications not working with certain apps
AN failing to wake the screen when device was moved
AN failing to wake the screen when a notification arrived
AN failing to open an app from the AN screen
Active display STILL doesn't show any notifications for me.

I turned off active display because any movement and it would turn on the clock and catch my eye which is very distracting and annoying, anyway to disable that without disabling the whole feature?
Mine was working perfect, did a factory reset to try and fix the high android OS usage and now it's not working. This is very annoying.

If you go into the Apps side of the Activity Display you should be able to un-check the Clock and it won't show it anymore.

I did that. Then remembered I took the Navigation buttons out via the Build.prop and had a hell of a time trying to reinstall everything without them. I use LMT Pie Controls so I had to reinstall them through the Play Store before I could reinstall all my other apps. I then took LMT Pie Controls and made them flashable so that the next time I do a factory reset I can just reinstall them via recovery.
What irks me most is that half my notifications aren't working a week after buying the phone. When they worked the day I got it. Gmail doesn't show up, 1Weather doesn't show up, the battery no longer shows up. Outlook does and Messaging does. I know Motorola said there was a problem with 1Weather not working properly but the day I set my phone up a little over a week ago it worked. Now all of a sudden it doesn't, and Gmail should work but doesn't.
Also, does the image verification thing for the forum ever go away? It's kind of a PITA to remember it's there when I post. Guys, I'm not a robot. Seriously.
I turned off the sleep function of active display and now my notifications are working. I haven't tried turning it back on to see if it would work but just something to try for those who are having an issue.

Did you reboot the phone after updating? It's a highly integrated system function. It should require a reboot after updating. I noticed it acted the same as 1.2.8 until I restarted the phone.

Turn the phone face down or cover the proximity sensor face-up.
Just a suggestion. When some apps get updated like line app and some other apps, they get unchecked in that active notification select apps menu/setting. I have to go back and manually check them again to show up on active display.

I'll have to try this.
I have tried every single combination and can not get either of these apps to even blink once. I have unchecked under LED settings, I have turned off LED completely under settings, I've even tried alternate mode and back again. Nothing works.
I absolutely rely on this and it worked flawlessly with my S3. I'm close to returning the phone but really like it so hope someone can help.
Thanks.
PS stock notification works (green light)

If anyone is interested, factory fault makes the LED work with LED Manager. However whilst it works under test mode, the reality is, when a message/email comes through it defaults to green at the blink rate set by the stock notifier. Poor.

Light flow worked for me. I believe it had a "Root helper" option I enabled. It did change my LED color, however, the wakelocks resulting were detrimental to my battery. I had to uninstall it.

There are some that won't work, seems like Missed call/voicemail simply cannot be changed. However, I got Gmail (white) and Facebook (Blue) ones to work.
I still would not recommend using it. If you try, use Wakelock detector and check for numerous wakelocks. Maybe light manager works better, but you still won't get missed call/voicemail to change at all I believe. I would test with Gmail and if you get that working, then try others.
It seems like the G2 stock apps can't be overridden. If you must have different led colors for Missed call/SMS, I think you'll have better luck with 3rd party apps. The light managers seem to have better ability to override the led than with stock apps. That's my suspicion.
Just throwing my experience out there, I got frustrated with the battery drain. FYI there's also an xposed module for led control. Don't try it, it doesn't work.

Sadly none work. Only in test mode.
I couldn't get any of the above to work, then tried Prof Reminder on Play store and it seems to work fine for missed calls, SMS, etc. The interface is less than intuitive and was not easy to set up for me, but it worked. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2153923 also.
Lightflow does work, at least on the Verizon variant. However, it took a while for me to figure out the proper configuration. You must leave the G2's stock LED notifications enabled, but disable all the individual apps/notifications (incoming call, missed call, etc) except for the one labeled "Downloaded apps" (make sure that one is enabled/ticked). *This particular option/setting may only be available on the Verizon variant*
In Lightflow's settings, have "root mode", and "Run in foreground" enabled. Seems that "Nexus 5 force LED reset" is enabled by default, so I left that alone. "Reduce wake" is optional...seems to work either way.
For some apps to work properly (Like Facebook Messenger) you must have "Accessibility Services" enabled for Lightflow as well (on 4.2.2). On 4.4.2, the new "Notification Service" should be enabled (Lightflow should request this when you run it).
Hoping this helps.

So far, Prof Reminder app works for everything I have tried for both my and my wife's LG Verizon LG G2
I didnt have any trouble with LightFlow on 4.2.2 and it works probably 90% on KitKat. It seems like some stock apps force their notification either briefly or permanently, but i haven't troubleshooted at all. Also I did a factory reset after upgrading to KitKat and I forgot to back up my LF settings so I may have an option off that was on before.
I used Light Flow on my Samsung GS3, my G2 D803 on 4.2.2* and on 4.4.2. Everything is working perfectly (native and 3rd party apps).
*That said, I initially had trouble when I first got my G2, Light Flow would not work, and the LED only blinked on native apps. I tried everything I could think of, including contacting the developer of Light Flow, who was very helpful but we could not resolve the issue.
Finally, I did a factory reset but prior to that, I turned off backup/restore of data to Google servers, and also turned off the auto-updating of apps in the Play Store. After the reset, Light Flow started working and has worked ever since including after update to KitKat.
It is my theory that a setting from my GS3 was restored onto my G2 automatically when I changed devices (i.e. shortly after signing in to my gmail account when I got my G2). Some setting I think somehow interfered with Light Flow working. While it's possible that the factory reset itself fixed the problem, I still think it was the data restore that caused my issue. In any event, that data was just a few preferences, wifi access point, bluetooth pairings and such, no big deal to set up again (you do NOT lose email, contacts, calendar, etc. -- that is entirely different from what I mean about backup/restore of data on Google Servers).

maybe it needs root, some phones do. could also just be that it's not marshmallow optimized yet? are you rooted and if so, have you checked the "root" box in settings? mine wasn't working either and it's the straw that broke the proverbial back of my camel and caused me to give up on not rooting my phone and trying to go vanilla. I just knew that if i was having problems this early i wasn't going to be able to go long term without it.
Light Flow worked out of the box for me, I just installed the app... gave it permission to view my notifications and it worked.
Be sure pulse notification light is enabled in settings > sound & notifications.
What color light you trying to use? I noticed some of the choices in light flow don't work on my led. Try a different color maybe.

Might not apply, but make sure to NOT follow the tutorial for Light Flow on the Nexus 6.
You still need to uncheck "Run in foreground" in the Persistent Icon menu.
Then under Device Settings and Root, ONLY check the following:
Root Mode
Show LED While Screen on (this might not need to be checked)
Nexus 5 force LED reset
I think that's it.

I had a back up of Light Flow from my Nexus 6 so i just left it the same, but the biggest change was the "LED Mixer" or whatever the setting was called in each notification. Removing that, and just selecting the color and blink rate fixed the problem for me.

Enabling the LED Mixer did break Light Flow, which is only caused if you follow the Nexus 6 tutorial. So if people are saying it works out of the box, then great.

Yup, it does. The only things you need to do are the ones it pops up and tells you about... which for me, was reminding me to give it access to see my notifications.
I've been using Light Flow since it was released, so I typically start fresh on each new device to report any issues before I import my notifications backup.
Edit: Well, and turn on the LED in Settings for the device.

Yea lots of people are. Anything that changes the status of the screen like some kind of screen filter like twilight, night owl, any of those things, can mess with this. It's been pretty annoying. I have Twilight set to a timer to eliminate blue light on the screen before sleeping and I have to freeze and defrost it several times a day. Apparently it's an issue with ZTE. There is a thread over there about it.

I guess that it should actually be a security feature to prevent an overlay app from abusing any open apps below it... but it is really annoying that the ZTE integrated feature Mi-POP will also make this warnings display... you can simply deactivate it through its notification bar shortcut but it's still annoying...

Screen overlay is new in 6.0 to prevent apps from creating an overlay and giving permissions to themselves. It's not an issue with ZTE.
Yes screen overlay is new. Came from a N6 and never had this problem on stock 6.0 from Google. Facebook messenger will not do anything other than message can't call, or send pictures. Yes it is a problem with ZTE

Go to the "Apps" setting, and then click on the "gear-shaped" setting button to go to the "Draw over other apps" menu and turn off all apps that are enabled. Go back to the "Apps" setting and click on the app that needs permissions modified. When all the permissions are updated, go back and enable the "Draw over other apps" for those apps you disabled.
Use this app it will get rid of that annoying overlay issue.
