I really want to sell my phone. I know I can get more money for it if us unlocked. Ive already googled how to unlock it and it seems pretty simple. My question is should I unlock it before its sold? Never unlocked a phone lol so sorry for this question.

Unlocked always adds a little bit more value to a device.
Why not?

I just got an ATT S4 I was planning to end my postpaid account with ATT and using prepaid.
I read in a forum somewhere that says you have a better chance of getting your non-iPhone device unlocked thru ATT international chat.
I tried numerous times with all my devices thru ATT unlocking to no avail. This time i tried the international chat just for the hell of it. Gave her my info and etc and what do know? It worked, she gave me instructions and the unlocked code. Another shocker is that this phone isn't even registered under my account.

I have got Sprint S4 and it is stuck on Hands free Activation. I don't have Sprint coverage here so how can I be able to activate this phone? I plan to unlock it and use it with another carrier.
Thanks.
In a another country, yes
In this country, no
If u don't have Sprint coverage there, go to somewhere you get coverage to activate it or call sprint they might give you an airrave

Yes I am in another country. Does that mean I won't be able to activate this phone without sending it to USA probably? Isn't there any hack or something?
you can root and delete/freeze the activation apk

Thanks for the hint. Tried it by renaming activation.apk to activation.apk.bak but the "Hands free activation" still pops up on every boot. I don't get any signal even after unlocking.
to get signal you will need to program the phone.. and for that you can use DFS to input your CDMA network information manually...

I didn't know that. Just got this phone last night and am struggling to get it to work.
Can you please link me to some guide or provide a few links on how to program the phone?
And won't I be able to use this phone with GSM carriers?
You can try freezing all Sprint apps
As for unlocking follow this

I have already unlocked using the same method you linked to.
As for freezing all Sprint apps, I've tried that and still the "handsfree activation" pops up out of nowhere. And still, I've no signal.

I think I read somewhere that t-mobile will make you keep the phone on their service for at least one billing cycle before they unlock it.
You'd better just call them and ask, the store clerks will give you an answer, or 3 answers, probably all wrong.
Please update the thread when you know for sure.

Its a 40 day wait for unlock, not sure if you could talk some manager into bypassing it. You could try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471742

That looks to work if you don't need a true unlock where you can use any sim without restricts. I had great results with cellunlocker.net. It's $25 but you never have to worry about it again.
+1 for cellunlocker.

I bought two At&t Note 3s yesterday. One for me and one for a friend. I'm on At&t and my friend is on MetroPCS. I called At&t for an unlock and they couldnt get me a code, even though one was paid in full price and "qualified" to get unlocked according to them. So this is how I got the phones unlocked.
Reminder: I'm not responsible for any damage you may do to your phone. Proceed at your own risk!
Root is Required!
1. To root your At&t Note 3 follow this guide (Thank You designgears!)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2474422
2. You will need to allow unknown sources to be installed.
Settings>General>Security>Unknown Sources (Make sure its checked)
3. Install Chainfire's RegionLock Away App from Google Play Store (and buy him a beer :highfive or download it from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470551
4. Tap "Region Unlock" in the app
5. Let it do its thing
6. Choose Reboot Later (Thats what I did at least)
7. Turn off the phone and try a non-At&t sim card.
I tried my old T-mobile sim in mine and it pulled up, and we just got back from the MetroPCS store and have his running on that.

This works! I wonder if this affect the LTE because I think it modifies the modem. Have you notice a difference?

I have an unlocked note 3 simply I went into the AT&T store where I live and said unlock it or I won't buy it and bam they did it. I have a simple pay as you go T-Mobile card popped it in, input the code and unlocked I was. I had to buy the phone outright so was costly but not at all risky. LTE showed up just fine on the T-Mobile network.

You lucky mother fu
I asked at&t here about that since i bought one full price and they said, to call customer service. So did the next day and they "couldnt" give me the network code. I honestly dont care about an unlock as I'm on At&t.
The only difference is that you're phone wont be region unlocked. Sim unlock and region unlock are different.
Did you buy your phone full price/off contract?

Thats kinda of upsetting. I walked into the store and told them I wanted one full price and they were like "There's no 'full price', its just at&t next and you pay it off all at once if you want". I went online and showed them the option to do full price OR next, and they said they couldn't sell full price in the store. Didn't understand that because my s3 and note 3 were both full price at the store, Plus I've found deals with coupons online and they've matched it before! I hate when I go somewhere and I know more than the person working with me (I think he was just trying to get more commission off me.IDK). : They made me wait longer for the phone than I should've too. Guess my store here just sucks :rolleyes
Kudos to you. Wish that would've happened to me!

Hello everyone, its been a while since I've been on XDA.
Anyways, I recently purchased an unlocked Galaxy Note 4 (T-Mobile). I purchased it from a craigslist seller, and figured everything was okay after I put my SIM card in it and everything was working fine. After a few days of service with MetroPCS, it suddenly stopped working. I called Metro and they couldn't figure out the problem after 3 days. I then called T-Mobile since thats where the phone originally came from and they proceeded to tell me that the phone has been blacklisted due to nonpayment from the previous owner.
So I'm basically screwed now. I have a $600 phone that's nothing but a paperweight.
I've been in this community for years now but I have no idea what I'm about to do.
So basically my question is, if I root my phone and change my imei number to a valid one, would I be okay? Would I be able to register it under the network?
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!
